Mathew is still on the sofa . . . 

Mathew is still fast asleep under his blanket when Howard walks into the farmhouse 

. . . which surprises Howard

and is surprised to see him there.   

"He fell asleep last night"

Then Sioned comes in, telling Howard that he came over last night to collect his stuff and fell asleep.

“Did you talk to him and sort things out at last?” Howard wants to know, 

"It's not as easy as that"

but she insists that it is not as easy as that, so he advises her to try harder, as whatever is going on is affecting everyone.

She promises that she is trying;  

"Someone needs to open up"

Howard will now go, as he informs her “Someone needs to open up while he gets his beauty sleep.”

"Mathew"

Sioned goes to Mathew’s side and attempts to wake him, pointing out that he fell asleep.   

"What time is it?"

He wonders what time it is 

"About 8:30"

and when told that is about 8:30, 

He gets up without a word . . .

he immediately gets up 

. . . and leaves the house

and leaves the house without another word.   

Sioned is very worried about him

Sioned is still extremely worried.

"The divorce proceedings have started"

In the Deri, Kath is looking at a letter and informs Cassie that it is from the court to say that they have received the paperwork to start divorce proceedings.   

"Watch out – Kath Jones is back!"

“There we are – you can move on with your life now,” says Cassie, “And then it will be watch out – Kath Jones is back!”

Where has she been, then?"

Ieuan has just come in and wonders where Kath has been;  

"The divorce has started"

she enlightens him that the divorce proceedings for her and Brynmor have started.   

"I wanted to celebrate when I divorced Hazel"

He recalls that he wanted to celebrate when he divorced Hazel and Cassie felt the same way when she divorced Teg.

"You weren't divorced from Ted before moving on"

“If I remember, you weren’t divorced from Teg before moving on,” Ieuan observes.

"You were a saint with Hazel, weren't you?"

She snarls in return, “You were a saint with Hazel, weren’t you?”

"You men are all the same!"

Kath joins in, “You men are all the same!”   Ieuan had not heard that Brynmor was having an affair, bur Cassie believe that he has already moved on, as they saw him on a date.   

"Who's the lucky woman, then?"

Of course, Ieuan wants to know who was the lucky woman, but Cassie goes to make him his coffee.

"Me and Brynmor?   As if!"

At the food van, Kelly exclaims, “Me and Brynmor?   As if!”   

"A room for two after lunch?"

Rhys has heard that she was on a date in the Glyndwr and suggests that they may have booked a room for two after lunch.

"We just bumped into each other"

“We just bumped into each other, that’s all,” she continues, but that is not what Rhys heard.   

"Who's been gossiping?"

Now Kelly is angry and demands who has been gossiping, as he is not the first to mention it.   Rhys imagines that he will not be the last, either, as Ieuan is approaching.

"Is it true you went out with Brynmor?"

“Is it true that you went out with Brynmor?”   Kelly simply sighs, while Rhys, maintains that it is true – it was a hot date and a honeymoon suite – before walking off, laughing.

"He's old enough to be your great-grandfather"

“He’s old enough to be your grandfather – or great-grandfather,” Ieuan goes on, “What do you see in him?   He’s not divorced from Kath yet.”

"There's nothing going on!"

This is the last straw;  “For God’s sake, there’s nothing going on between me and Brynmor, all right?” Kelly shrieks, so Ieuan walks away.

"I don't know what to do"

Sioned has gone to Ceffyl Du to speak to Rhys;  “I don’t know what to do!”   Rhys replies that Matthew has to deal with this in his own way.   “But he isn’t dealing with it,” she protests.

"You haven't told him, have you?"

“You can’t tell him – you haven’t, have you?”   

"I may have to, Rhys"

She answers that she has not yet, but may have to.   She is sure that there must be something that they can do, suggesting contacting his mother to ask her to have a word with Mathew.

"You can't contact Melfa"

“She’s the last person he would talk to – you can’t contact Melfa – that would make things worse,” Rhys tells her, 

"I've said too much already"

“But I’ve said too much already.”

Sioned demands what he means;  “Is there are more that I should be aware of?   Rhys, you have to tell me!”   

He agrees that he will, but not there – 

"We should go to the house"

they should go to the house.

At APD, Mathew comes in and Ieuan comments that he thought they would have to send out a search party.   

"I was with that surveyor in Neath"

“I was with that surveyor in Neath – and I was late.   There was no petrol in the van – 

"Thanks to you, Howard!"

“thanks to you, Howard!”

"Perhaps you should get up earlier"

“Perhaps you should get up earlier, instead of snoring on the sofa,” is Howard’s riposte.   

"Ooh – did she kick you out of bed?"

Ieuan welcomes this latest piece of gossip, that Sioned has kicked him out of bed, then realises that this was a mistake.

"Can you got to get a coffee for me, please?"

“Can you go to Tamed to get a coffee for me, please?” Mathew asks Howard, “You’re not busy, are you?”

"So this is Cwmderi's new rumour mill!

Kelly marches angrily into the Deri;  “So this is Cwmderi’s new rumour mill!” she shouts, 

"You've been spreading gossip about Brynmor and me!"

“You’ve been spreading gossip about me and Brynmor.”   she is told by Cassie that if she did not want people talking about her, 

"You should have met somewhere less public"

she should have met somewhere less public.

"We just, you know, bumped into each other"

“We didn’t meet – he had a business meeting and so did I, all right?   We just, you know, bumped into each other.”   

"And that's why you were all dolled up?"

“And that’s why you were all dolled up, was it?” comments Kath.

Kelly has had enough of this

“I was dolled up because I had a business meeting at the Glyndwr!” Kelly exclaims, “It was nothing to do with Brynmor, but he was there when I came out – and do you know what?   To be totally honest, Kath, he looked really lonely and that’s why I sat with him, because I felt sorry for him.”

"It's possible we misunderstood things"

Cassie concedes that it is possible they misunderstood things;  if they have, they apologise.   

"Half the village thinks I'm a gold-digger!"

“Too late – half the village thinks I’m a ‘gold digger’!” Kelly snarls.

"Free lunch and a glass of wine?"

Cassie assures her that they will tell everyone that they have made a mistake – and, as an apology, Kelly will be treated to lunch on the house and a glass of wine.   

Kelly storms out

However, Kelly’s response is to turn and walk out of the pub, while Cassie and Kath, look at each other.

"How could any mother let her child go through that?"

“How could she?” snarls Sioned, “How could any mother let her child go through that?”   

"I don't think she let it happen"

Rhys believes that she did not let it happen, 

"I have to find him!"

“But she didn’t stop it!   I have to find him!”

Rhys does his best to dissuade her;  “If you had seen him in Valley, you would understand – he just needs time to process everything.”   However, Sioned is adamant that he has no one to turn to.

"He has me"

“He has me – people deal with things differently,” Rhys insists, 

"But he's not dealing with it"

but Sioned emphasises that Mathew is not dealing with it.

“How can we make things worse?   I have to talk to him,” she continues as she goes out of the house.

"I promised not to tell anyone"

Rhys grabs her arm and pleads with her, “Please – I promised not to tell anyone – he’ll be furious!   He can’t find out I’ve told you – he’ll think I’ve betrayed him.   He can’t lose trust in me and you on top of everything.”

"I can't stand seeing him like this!"

Sioned cannot stand seeing him like this;  

Rhys gives her a hug . . .

Rhys understands that and hugs her, 

. . . which Howard sees . . .

just at the moment when Howard is coming out of the shop 

. . . and misinterprets

and sees them outside number 21.

He is eager to pass on the gossip

When Howard arrives back at APD, Ieuan complains, “At last – where have you been to get that coffee?   Columbia?”

"You'll never guess what I saw!"

Howard ignores him, but simply wants to know where Mathew is;  “You’ll never guess what I saw!”   Ieuan hopes that it was a coffee machine.   “Rhys and Sioned outside Hywel’s house – 

"They were cwtching!"

“they were holding on to each other – cwtching.   Sioned was leaving the house.”

"What – in the daylight?"

Ieuan cannot believe they were doing that in daylight;  

"They looked more than friends to me"

Howard confirms that they looked more than friends to him.   

"I saw them going into Ceffyl Du earlier"

Then Ieuan remembers seeing Sioned going to see Reese earlier in Ceffyl Du and they wonder if Mathew knows.

"Coffee – at last!"

Just then he comes in and is pleased to see the coffee at last;  

Mathew can see that something is going on

the two of them are looking rather awkward, 

"The cakes were expensive . . ."

so Mathew wonders what is going on.   Howard breaks the silence by telling him., “I couldn’t believe how expensive the cakes were in Tamed, 

". . . so I got these biscuits from the shop"

“so I got these biscuits instead from the shop.

Ieuan cannot keep it to himself any longer;  

"Rhys and Sioned . . ."

“Sorry, Mathew, but I think there’s something I should tell you – erm, well . . . Rhys and Sioned – perhaps there’s something going on between them.   

". . . they appeared very close"

“Howard  saw them coming out of Hywel’s house earlier – they appeared very ‘close together’.”

It is making sense to Mathew   

Mathew is putting two and two together, as Howard adds that Griffiths saw them in Ceffyl Du this morning, snooping around.   Ieuan enquires whether that was why he was on the sofa this morning.

"Keep your noses out of my business"

He tells them to keep their noses out of his business and walks out of APD.

"I'm just making some lunch"

Up in the Deri flat, Cassie asks if she is supposed to run the bar on her own today, but Kath replies that she is just making some lunch.   Cassie replies that there is salad in the fridge, 

"Things will get easier"

adding, “Things will get easier.”

Kath demands when that will be;  “I know I’m the one who wanted this – I haven’t forgotten that.”   

"Pour yourself a glass of Prosecco"

She is assured that she has done the right thing and advised to pour herself a glass of Prosecco with her lunch, to mark a new start.   

"I don't really like Prosecco"

“I don’t really like Prosecco,” replies Kath, 

"You can drink what you like"

so she is told to drink what she likes, as she only has herself to please these days.

"Aren't you going to open Y March Gwyn?

Kelly opens the door of number 7 to Rhys, who demands, “It’s almost lunchtime – aren’t you going to open Y March Gwyn?”

"And explain I'm not looking for a sugar daddy"

“And explain to every customer that I’m not looking for a sugar daddy?   No thanks – anyway it’s been really quiet.”   

"Hiding here won't help"

He tells her that hiding there will not help and turns off the television.

"Rhys, I'm not in the mood!"

“Rhys, I’m not in the mood to explain myself to everyone!” she tells him, so he invites her out for a drink – 

"You won't have to talk to anyone – except me"

promising she will not have to talk to anyone – except him.   She does not seem very keen on that idea, which he regards as rather harsh.

"Cassie has offered me a free meal"

“Do you know what?   Cassie has offered me a free meal as an apology.” Kelly continues 

"And you're going to turn it down?"

and he is incredulous that she is going to turn the offer down.   She soon changes her mind;  “Come on, then!”  

"I have a plan to stop the rumours"

While they are there, he suggests that he has a plan to stop the rumours.

Mathew loads the van

At the back of APD, Mathew is throwing a few items into the back of the van 

Howard and Ieuan come out

when Howard and Ieuan come out.   

"Take no notice of what we said"

Sorry, Math – take no notice of what we said – we probably misunderstood.”

"I have to go and pick something up"

Mathew announces that he has to go out and pick up something, but assures them that he is all right.   

"Don't do anything stupid"

“Don’t do anything stupid – we don’t know what’s going on,” Ieuan admits.

Mathew gets into the van

Mathew, however, has a fairly good idea of what is going on and gets into the van.   

"Should we tell Sioned?"

Ieuan wonders if they ought to tell Sioned that he knows.

Rhys has signed up Kelly for a dating app

Rhys has set up a profile on a dating site for Kelly; he advises, “You don’t want anyone miles away or you’ll never see them.”   

"I've found distance can be quite handy"

Cassie, who is looking on, remarks that from her experience distance can be quite handy.

He continues, “Start close and open it up if you can’t find anyone.”

"So this is your plan?"

Kelly is unimpressed;  “So this is your plan – a dating profile?”   

"This is the way to go, Kelly"

He maintains that if she wants to stop the rumours about her and Brynmor this is the way to go.

Cassie points out that there are no rumours now about her and Brynmor.   

"It's time for you to get back out there"

He is still of the opinion that, Brynmor or not, it is time for Kelly to get back out there – and this app has worked wonders for him.   Cassie instructs her that Rhys’ entry is one of those she can ‘swipe left’.

"Age range – 70 to 80, is it?"

He continues to work on the profile, asking, “Age range – 70 to 80, is it?”   Kath brings them two curries, on the house, to say sorry.   

"Don't let him force you to do anything"

Cassie warns Kelly not to let Rhys force her to do anything she does not want to do.

"I think Rhys has a fair point . . ."

However, Kelly considers, “The thing is, Cassie, I think Rhys has a fair point – I haven’t made an effort since Jason – perhaps I need a kick-start, you know – 

". . . plenty more fish and all that"

“plenty more fish and all that.”   She seems to be enjoying her curry.

Sioned is off her food

At Penrhewl, Sioned has made herself a sandwich but does not feel much like eating it;  Howard comes in 

"I've lost my appetite"

and she tells him, “You can have this – I’ve lost my appetite.”

"I saw you and Rhys hugging"

Howard asks, “Have you seen Matthew?   You and Rhys, I saw you hugging.”   

Mathew is eavesdropping

Mathew has just silently come in through the front door and is listening to the conversation.

"Oh, Howard, how stupid can you be?"

“You think there’s something going on?” laughs Sioned, “Oh, Howard, how stupid can you be?”   

"Yo have to talk to Mathew"

Howard insists that she has to talk to Mathew;  “Griffiths said you and Rhys have been sneaking around and Matthew was really upset – am I right?”

"I would never do that to Mathew!"

Sioned angrily tells him that he is definitely not right;  “I would never do that to Mathew!”   Howard wants to know why they were cwtching when they came out of the house, and is informed, “I was upset – I went to see Rhys because I’ve been worried – you know what Mathew has been like recently.”

"Will you leave us, please, Howard?"

Mathew appears in the doorway and asks if Howard will leave them alone;  he does so and Mathew comes into the room.   

They look at each other

He and Sioned look at each other.

Kath reminisces . . .

Kath is looking on her phone at memories of four years ago, 

. . . about Brynmor . . .

then moves to the profile of Brynmor;  

. . . therm deletes him as a friend . . .

she deletes him as a friend 

. . . and looks quite pleased

and looks quite pleased with herself.

Cassie puts the record straight

Downstairs Cassie is explaining to Ieuan, “Kath and I were mistaken – it was a business meeting and nothing else.

When Ieuan seeks clarification that there is nothing going on, 

"For the hundredth time, no!"

Kelly groans, “For the hundredth time, no!”   

"I didn't want to tell Anita she was Brynmor's aunt-in-law"

He is pleased, as he did not relish the thought of telling Anita that she was Brynmor’s aunt-in-law.

"There's a date!'

Rhys reveals that a potential date has appeared on the app;  Ieuan remarks, “Is that someone’s grandfather?”   

Someone called Deian

Apparently it is someone called Deian.

"Hang-a-banger!"

Kelly is angry;  “Hang-a-banger – I didn’t give you permission to organise dates – just, you know, set up a profile.   

"He has a lot in common with you

Rhys points out that he has been talking to Deian, who is nice and has a lot in common with Kelly.   She, however, does not like her love life being hijacked in this way.

"He works in a bank"

She can see that he works in a bank, comes from Carmarthen, 

We do not get a good look at Deian

then seizes her phone, commenting that perhaps, possibly, she might fancy a date.   Rhys announces to everyone in the pub, “Anyone else need the help of a matchmaker extraordinaire?”

"I have never needed any help"

Cassie boasts that she has never needed any help.

"What has Rhys said?"

At the kitchen table in Penrhewl, Mathew asks what Rhys has said;  

"He told me everything, Math"

“Everything,” Sioned answers, “He told me everything – I know, Math, what your grandfather did.   Please don’t be angry with Rhys – I’m the one who’s been worried – we’ve both been so worried about you.   

"We just want to help you"

“We just want to help you – I’m here for you, if you want to talk.”

"I don't need any help"

Mathew insists, “There’s nothing to talk about – I don’t need any help because there’s nothing wrong.   I don’t know what Rhys is on about.   Leave it, Sioned.   

"I don't want to hear anyone mention him again"

“Whatever Rhys has told you is a lie.   I didn’t even know Taid – and I don’t want to hear anyone mention him or the rest of my family ever again, understand?”

"I don't know how to help you"

Sioned does not know what to do – how to help him, 

"I don't need any help"

but again he insists that he does not need any help, 

Hywel gets upend walks out . . . 

then gets up from the table and leaves the farmhouse,

. . . leaving Sioned distraught 

 with Sioned again in floods of tears.
