DI Lloyd is waiting for Delyth

The DI is sitting in his car, waiting for Delyth, who announces that their engagement party is tonight.

"I hear that you're leaving us"

“I hear that you’re leaving us,” he says, and she agrees that she is transferring to Sussex police.   He demands why that is,

"It's time for a change"

and that she maintains that it is time for change.

"You expect me to believe that?"

“You expect me to believe that?” sneers the DI;  she tells him to believe what he likes, as he has no evidence to prove otherwise.   “You’re not going to get away with this,” he informs her.

"Get away with what?"

“Get away with what?” she replies and simply walks away.

The DI asks for an address

He takes out his phone, dials a number and says, “Can you find somebody’s address for me, please?”

Haven't seen him before

In the Deri, where an unfamiliar old gentleman with a large white beard is at the bar, Kath is doing some cleaning.

A large amount of party food

Eileen and Maya bring in some of the food for the party;  Maya is grateful to her for doing the catering,

"Happy to help"

and Eileen replies that it is no problem – she is happy to help.

“I just wanted something really special, you know?” says Maya, but then realises that Kath is looking disapproving.   “Sorry, I didn’t mean . . .”

"I wouldn't want to spoil 'something special'!"

“I wouldn’t want to spoil something ‘really special’ with food from the Deri!” Kath snarls.

"They're very much in love, you see"

Eileen maintains that DJ and Sioned are so excited;  “They’re very much in love, you see.”   Maya agrees that applies to her and Delyth as well, and just then Delyth comes in.

"What's 'quiches' in Welsh?"

“Eileen’s made a load of quiches – what’s ‘quiches’ in Welsh?” Maya says,

"How about 'cwish?"

and Kath suggests ‘cwish’.   Delyth is insistent that she and Maya need to talk.

"Are you going to invite anyone else?"

“OK – but are you going to invite anyone else, because it’s a bit thin at the moment and we’ve got all this food?”

"They want me to start next week"

Delyth has other things on her mind;  “Listen – the transfer – they want me to start next week,

"We'd have to move this weekend"

which means we’d have to move this weekend.”   This comes as a shock to Maya,

"I haven't agreed to the move yet"

who points out that she has not even agreed to the move yet.

“Listen, I promise it’s the best thing for us, OK?” the controlling Delyth pressures her, but Maya is far from convinced.

Mark leaves his key

At number 7, Mark is taking the key from his keyring and leaves it on the table;

"Hiya!"

just as he is about to leave the house with a box, Seren and Dani come in.

"I'm picking up the rest of my stuff . . ."

“Hiya, I’m picking up the rest of my stuff, that’s all,” he tells Dani,

". . . I don't want to pay bills in two places"

“I don’t want to pay bills in two places – are you going to pay me for the electricity?

"There meter says we're in credit"

“The meter says we’re in credit, and I’ll want the deposit soon, OK?”

Off he goes . . .

He rapidly exits the house,

. . . leaving Dani rather bemused

which Dani finds rather confusing.

"I can't believe you're springing this on me"

Back in the Deri, Maya complains, “I can’t believe you’re springing this on me – today, of all days.”

"It will be a fresh start for us"

Delyth says that she has only just heard and goes on to describe Sussex in glowing terms as a lovely area, which will be a fresh start for them.

"Cwmderi was supposed to be our fresh start"

Maya reminds her that Cwmderi was supposed to be their ‘fresh start’;  “I’m learning Welsh, Dee – how am I supposed to practice my Welsh in Sussex?   And what about the pharmacy?”

"What about that lovely locum?"

She is told that she could sell it;  “What about that lovely locum, Douglas?   He wanted to buy a pharmacy, didn’t he?”   Maya supposes that she could always do locum work for a while, until she finds a permanent pharmacy.

Delyth is very eager to get Maya to agree to this, but she is reluctant;  “I’m not saying yes for certain yet.”

"You're not saying no, either"

Delyth takes that to mean that she is not saying no, either and hugs her.

"We'll talk properly after the party"

“We’ll talk about it properly after the party,” Maya decides, but nevertheless, Delyth cannot resist going on about how lovely Sussex is.   “I haven’t said yes yet!” Maya irritatedly reminds her.

Cheryl peels potatoes

Cheryl is peeling potatoes and asks Mark if he has unpacked yet;  he thanks her for emptying a drawer for him,

"Lucky I don't have a lot of clothes"

commenting that it is lucky he does not have a lot of clothes.

"Welcome to your new home"

She produces a ‘Welcome to your New Home’ card’;

"I was raised here"

he points out, “It’s not a new home, though – I was raised here,” but she says that he has not lived there with her.

Gaynor find that Mark has moved in

As they are about to kiss, the front door bursts open and Gaynor comes in, carrying a French stick, to be informed that Mark has officially moved in.   “We’re going to have a lot of fun here, the three of us,” Cheryl predicts,

"I'm only here temporarily"

but Gaynor points out that she is only there temporarily.

“You can stay as long as you like – can’t she, Mark?” Cheryl assures her.

"We'e watc"hing Star Trek tonight

Mark invites Gaynor to join them, watching Star Trek tonight, but she declines, explaining that she will be going to the engagement party in the Deri.

"What time will you be back?"

Mark enquires what time she will be back,

"I'll text when I'm leaving"

so she agrees to text when she is leaving;  “I don’t want to disturb your ‘Star Trekking’.”

"We've all moved on, Mark"

When she has gone upstairs, Mark asks, “Are you sure she’s happy that I’m living here?”   Cheryl makes it clear that they have all moved on and she kisses him.

Evening at Penrhewl

In the darkness at Penrhewl, Sioned is debating what to wear;

"Is this dress all right?"

“Is this dress all right?   It’s not too much, is it?”   DJ rather half-heartedly describes it as fine, but again she demands, “Is it too much?   I don’t want to distract from Maya and Delyth, do I?”

"It's fine"

As he zips up her dress, he mutters, “No – it’s fine.

"I don't think I'll come"

“Listen, I don’t think I’ll come.”   Sioned maintains that Maya will be disappointed if he is not there, but somehow he doubts that.

"Why do you say that?"

“Why do you say that?” she asks, and he replies that, after inviting the whole village, he does not think that she would miss him.   “I don’t feel much like going either, to be honest,” Sioned admits,

"People go out and enjoy themselves"

“But that’s what people do, DJ – go out and enjoy themselves.   What’s the other option – stay in and watch telly all night?   Mam has made the buffet, so we have to go to eat the food.”

"You look lovely, Sioned"

DJ tells her that she looks lovely and they leave the house.

Dani is clearing up

Dani is already feeling Mark’s absence as she clears up at number 7;

"You haven't put your things away"

she admonishes Seren for not putting her things away.   “I’ll do it later,” is the reply,

Then Dani finds something . . .

then Dani comes across

. . .a drawing by Seren . . .

a drawing of the four of them,

. . . and is rather emotional

which she finds rather emotional.

"I always thought she'd walk through that door"

DI Lloyd has gone to the home of Kate, the sister of the dead girl;  she brings him a cup of tea.   “I always thought she’d walk through that door some day.

"I still wanted to believe it"

“I knew that was not going to happen – but I still wanted to believe it.”

"I'm very sorry"

The DI is sorry for her loss and is asked whether they know who killed Laura yet;  “We’re still investigating the matter,” he says.

"Do you think this Gwyneth Jones killed her?"

“Do you still think this Gwyneth Jones killed her?”   He replies that it would be the most likely explanation, as Laura was in her garden,

"We think there were more people involved"

but they think that there are more people involved.

"When that other detective came over"

“That’s not a shock,” says Kate, “I thought you were hiding something when that other detective came over.”   The DI was not expecting that and retrieves the photograph from his pocket.

“This is an old photograph,” he stresses, showing it to her.

"I don't know her . . ."

“I don’t know her,” Kate tells him as she points to Delyth,

". . . but the other one – that's her . . ."

“But the other one – that’s her,

". . . definitely!"

“definitely!”

Kath fills the glasses

Kath is filling the glasses in the Deri and everyone congratulates Maya and Delyth;  Sioned and DJ arrive.

"Steady on, Dee"

Maya is concerned at the amount of alcohol that Delyth is consuming and urges her, “Steady on!”

“We’re celebrating, aren’t we?   Celebrating our fresh start,” is the reply.

There is plenty of food . . .

There is a lavish spread of food

. . . which impresses Anita

which greatly impresses Anita.

"Is this it?"

DJ, however, grumbles, “Is this it?   Look at all that food!”   Sioned tries to encourage him to relax and points out that Gaynor has now arrived;

Gaynor brings a present

she presents the happy couple with a gift.

She is told to help herself to the buffet,

"You've been busy with all that food"

and tells Kath that she has been busy with all that food.   “Eileen did the food,” is Kath’s curt reply,

"The rest of the quiches are in the kitchen"

and Eileen points out to Maya that the rest of the quiches are in then kitchen – four of them.

"Where are all your mates?"

Maya demands, “Where are all your mates?” and is told by Delyth that she did not invite anyone,

"It's only the two of us that matter"

maintaining that it is only the two of them that matter.   She adds that it will mean there is more quiche for her.

"Have you set a date yet?"

Anita asks Delyth if they have set a date yet, but she is rather evasive;  Sioned recommends The Glyndwr as being a good venue.   Anita is sure that there would be no opposition to them getting . . . at Bethania.

"We're thinking of doing it in Sussex"

“Well, we’re thinking of doing it in Sussex,” says Del, which comes as rather a surprise.

". . . we're going to be moving before long"

“I’ve got a job there and we are going to be moving before long.”

Maya overhears this

Maya, who has been talking to Llinos, overhears this and immediately comes across,

"You're moving?"

as Gaynor gasps, “You’re moving?”   Maya has little choice but to agree that they are,

"It's not certain yet"

but is careful to point out that it is not certain yet.

“What’s happening to the pharmacy?   You’re not closing?” demands Gaynor.

"Remember Douglas?"

Maya says that she has a friend who might be interested in taking it on – Douglas.

"He was a bit forgetful"

Gaynor recalls, “He was a nice enough guy, but a bit forgetful.”   Maya will make sure that her job is safe;

Sioned and Maya look awkwardly at each other

she and Sioned look awkwardly at each other.

"Well, good luck in Sussex"

Anita wishes them good luck in Sussex, while Eileen will be glad to see the back of the pair of them.

Star Trek is in progress

At Maes-y-Deri, Mark and Cheryl are avidly watching Star Trek when there is a knock at the door, so he goes to answer it and finds Dani.

"Sorry to interrupt"

She is sorry to interrupt their viewing and presents Mark with the picture;

"You were more than a lodger at number 7, Mark . . ."

“You were more than just a lodger at number 7, Mark,” she assures him,

" . . .I don't like the fact we said 'so long'"

“I don’t like the fact we said ‘so long’, talking about bills.”

"I think the world of you – and them!"

Mark is very touched by this;  “That’s not what I wanted . . . honestly, I was just . . . look, I think the world of you – and them – all right?

They hug each other . . .

“I’ll always be Uncle Mark to the kids, even though we don’t live under the same roof.”

He gives Dani a big hug,

. . . while Cheryl smiles

while Cheryl looks on and smiles.   Dani leaves and Cheryl asks if he will miss them.

"A little bit, perhaps"

“A little bit, perhaps,” he says, and she describes him as ‘lovely’.

“You’re drunk, are you?” he suggests,

"Not drunk enough"

and she replies that she is not drunk enough;

"Well, I can fix that"

“Well, I can fix that – I’ve got another bottle somewhere,” Mark tells her

He is affected by the drawing

and in the kitchen looks again at the drawing, which makes him quite emotional.

Delyth is worried

Delyth is sitting, very pensive, in the Deri,

"Why are they having a party if they're leaving?"

while DJ miserably asks Sioned, “Why are they having a party if they’re leaving?”

"Stop it, DJ"

She tells him to stop it, but he continues,

"It's a joke, if you ask me"

“They obviously don’t want to live here – it’s a joke, if you ask me!”

“All right – you’ve made your point!” she snaps.

Delyth has a refill

Delyth asks Kath for another top-up of her glass and Maya comes across,

"I can believe you just did that!"

snarling, “I can’t believe you just did that – telling everybody that we’re leaving!   I haven’t even decided that I’m coming yet!”

Delyth points out that she has pretty much agreed,

"Everyone will find out, anyway"

adding that everyone will find out eventually, anyway.   When she leaves to go to the toilet, Maya is looking very tearful, but is asked by Gaynor when they are going and why she did not say that she was leaving.

"It's all very last-minute"

“I’m not sure – it’s all very last-minute,” Maya replies.

“I would like to have been told before tonight,” Gaynor scolds her, but is informed that Maya only found out today.

"I just need five minutes"

Now she is even closer to tears and tells Kath that she just needs five minutes, so is told to go upstairs and take her time.

"I'll say you're taking a phone call, OK?"

“If anyone asks, I’ll just say you’re taking a phone call, OK?” says Kath.

Sioned is keeping watch . . .

Geraint and Llinos’ husband are having a chat;  Sioned is keeping an eye on Maya and quickly follows her upstairs.

. . . and is not far behind Maya

By the time she arrives in the flat, Maya is wondering what to do,

"There's something in my eye"

but tries to convince Sioned that she has something in her eye.

"I was surprised to hear your'e moving"

After carefully checking Sioned promises that there is nothing there now;  “I was surprised to hear that you’re moving away.”

"I only found out today"

Maya confesses that she only found out today, which Sioned finds rather strange.

"It's not like we've got many mates round here"

“I suppose it makes sense for us to move on – it’s not like we’ve got many mates here.   No-one’s even turned up.”

"I'm here!"

Sioned points out that she is there,

Her mascara needs attention . . .

and offers her mascara to sort out Maya’s eyes.

. . . with Sioned's assistance

They laugh as Sioned holds up the mirror for her.

"It's a big night tonight . . ."

Downstairs Jason comes in and asks Kath for a pint;  “It’s a big night at ours tonight,” he tells her,

" . . .our first anniversary"

“It’s mine and Kelly’s anniversary – a year!   I need a bottle of wine to take home as well, please.”

Delyth is looking for Maya

Meanwhile, Delyth is looking around but cannot see Maya.

"Perhaps we can keep in contact . . ."

As they sit upstairs in the flat, Maya suggests, “Perhaps we can keep in contact after I’ve gone.

". . . I'm sure you have better things to do"

“You don’t have to – I’m sure you have better things to do than tutor Welsh to a pharmacist in Sussex.”

“I’ll keep in touch because I want to do so,” Sioned promises her, “Because your a friend.

"I've always struggled to make friends with other girls . . ."

“You know, I’ve always struggled to make friends with other girls, but with you it was easy – it was more than easy –

". . . but with you it's a pleasure"

“it was a pleasure.”

Another kiss . . .

Once again, they look into each other’s eyes and it is obvious what is coming next – they kiss.

. . . but they hear something . . .

In the background, someone else comes into the room, at first unnoticed.

. . . and are horrified to find . . .

They turn with horror to see who it is;

. . . DJ watching them

DJ, who is furious.
