20 March 2024 (2nd)

The DI has been to see Britt

DI Lloyd is just coming out of the door of number 21 when Diane passes on her way to the deli and wishes him good morning;

He heads along the street

he looks along the road with a determined expression.

"The end of a long shift"

Delyth is yawning as she pays for her breakfast from Sioned in the deli;  “The end of a long shift,” she explains, and Sioned will be as quick as she can.

This is where the DI was heading

The DI comes in and Delyth hopes that he does not want the report on that burglary, as she is shattered.

"I would like a word with you"

He takes something from his pocket and shows it to her;  the photo, which Britt has obviously passed straight on to the police, and would like a word with her,

Off goes Delyth . . .

so they both immediately leave.

. . . without her breakfast

Sioned is concerned when she comes back with her order.

"Taggart and Miss Marple are busy"

“It looks like Taggart and Miss Marple are busy,” comments Diane, as she keeps a careful eye on where they are going.

A customer is just leaving the pharmacy

In the pharmacy. Maya has just served a customer when Eileen arrives,

"It says 'Open' today"

remarking, “It says ‘Open’ today – when I called yesterday it said ‘Closed’.”

"I had a big delivery"

Maya points out that it was only for half an hour, while she was taking a big delivery.

“So you weren’t away ‘jolly-hoiting’, then?” Eileen goes on,

"I thought you'd gone shopping – or something"

“Sioned was away yesterday as well – I thought perhaps you’d gone shopping – or something.”

"I hope you're not insinuating anything"

“Eileen, I hope you’re not insinuating anything,” says Maya, and Eileen points out that it would not be the first time.   Maya is quick to stress that there is nothing going on between them, and Eileen is glad to hear that.

"Have you got any Viagra?"

“Oh, that reminds me – have you got any Viagra?   It’s for DJ – he and Sioned are thinking of starting a family.”

"He'll have to come in himself"

She is advised that DJ will have to come in himself,

"I can recommend this"

but Maya can recommend some herbal stuff for Eileen to take to him.

“Oh, this is good for those suffering from stress as well,” she observes and is charged £19.

"I hope it will help"

Maya hopes that it will help;

"That – and some peace!"

“It will – that and some peace!” is Eileen’s parting comment.

The DI is having a chat

The DI is sitting in his car outside number 21 with Delyth,

"It was obviously 'Photoshopped'"

who maintains that it is obvious that someone has ‘Photoshopped’ the picture.

"Who would want to do that – and why?"

“Who would want to do that – and why?” asks DI Lloyd.

"Someone who wants to set me up"

“Someone spiteful – who wants to set me up,” she begins, but he insists that it is obviously a genuine photo and wants to know when it was taken.   Delyth pleads ignorance, saying that she cannot remember being in the same room as Yvonne.

"Can't you see how bad this looks?"

“Miss Evans is wearing the same necklace that was found with the body – how do you explain the photograph?”   Delyth simply replies that she cannot.   “Can’t you see how bad this looks?

"Tell me what's going on"

“Tell me what’s going on and I might be able to help you.”

"Just talk to me, Delyth"

There is no reply, so he continues, “Delyth, I like you, all right?   You’ve got a really good record over the years – just talk to me.”

"You obviously know more than you;'re letting on"

She still remains silent, so he continues, “You’ve had an unnatural interest in the case from the beginning – questioning Colin – coming into work when you’re not on shift.   You obviously know more than you’re letting on.   Are you and Yvonne friends?   More than friends perhaps?”

"I don't know her"

Delyth simply informs him that she does not know Yvonne.

"If you know something about that body . . ."

“If you know something about that body, you have to say!” he emphasises, but again there is no response.

Howard is driving the quad bike . . .

Howard is driving the quad bike, loaded with some fence posts when he stops alongside a gate;

. . . when he spots Kelly

in the field, Kelly is approaching.   “I’ve been filming the conditions the dogs are kept in, then I’m going to phone the RSPCA,” she tells him,

"I'm having sleepless nights"

“I’m having sleepless nights!”

"And I shall have sleepless nights in jail"

He protests that he will have sleepless nights in jail if she does that;  Kelly points out that Eileen is to blame.

"She's raking it in and those dogs are suffering"

“She’s raking it in and those dogs are suffering.”

He points out that Eileen will blame him and say he is not looking after them properly;

"I really don't think we can do anything"

“And with my record . . . I really don’t think we can do anything.”

"Back to Plan A, then"

Kelly accepts they have to go back to ‘Plan A’, then;  “The dog sanctuary.”

"How are you going to make them disappear?"

He demands how they are going to make a pack of dogs like that disappear without anyone noticing – there is always someone at Penrhewl.

“There is always a way,” Kelly tells him, “Surely the priority is rescuing those dogs before ‘Cruella de Vil’ puts more of them down!”   Howard replies that it is just too risky – and that she had better go before Eileen comes home.

Kelly walks away

Kelly walks away along the track.

"What has Dai done to deserve this?"

Sioned asks Diane what Dai has done to deserve a treat from the deli;

"It's not for him – it's for Jason"

“It’s not for him, it’s for Jason – he’s in a foul mood today – I hope that will keep him quiet for a while.”

"I'd like a word in private"
Maya comes in and comments that she has been better;  she would like to word in private.

"I'd say she needs a pasty as well"

Diane suggests, “I’d say that she needs a pasty as well!”

"What was that about pasties?"

Maya wants to know what that was about pasties;  “I get the feeling you need to worry about your mum – she came in to warn me off.   She said you and DJ want peace to try and get pregnant – I didn’t know where to put myself!”

"I'll have a word with Mam"

Sioned promises she will have a word with her mother and Maya hopes that she has not told anyone else;

"People gossiping is the last thing I need"

“People gossiping is the last thing I need – I’m engaged.”

"We need to celebrate the engagement"

Sioned maintains that they need to celebrate the engagement with a night out and a couple of drinks, perhaps.   Maya would like that and returns to the pharmacy,

"Please have a word with your mother"

first begging Sioned to have a word with her mother.   “Yes – leave her to me!” Sioned replies.

"Why would you do that?"

Delyth emerges from the pharmacy and confronts Yvonne;  “Why would you do that?’ she snarls, “That photograph of you and me – you gave it to do DI Lloyd, didn’t you?   Everything you said yesterday was nonsense!”

The photo is no longer there

Yvonne rummages in her bag and finds that the photograph is missing.

"Yes, I took it . . ."

Just at that moment, Britt calls her name and gleefully announces, “Yes, I took it!”   She is told that she had no right to go through Yvonne’s purse.

“I had every right – as you’re having a bath every day – the £20 towards the electricity bill –

". . . what did you think I was talking about?"

“what did you think I was talking about?”

"Don't you ever go through my stuff!"

Again she is warned not to go through Yvonne’s stuff, then notices Delyth nearby.

"You should put in a complaint for harassment"

“What about her?   Is she still hassling you?   You should put in a complaint for harassment.”

There is no peace for Howard

Howard is driving in some fenceposts when Eileen approaches, shouting, “Oi!”

"I'm dying for a drink"

and he says he is dying for a drink of squash.

Eileen has been chasing sheep and is not happy

“Squash?   You don’t deserve the water off a pig’s back,” she rages, “I’ve been chasing sheep and lambs in Cae Wern Ddu [Black Alder Field] for over an hour, because someone didn’t close the gate!   It’s not my place to clean up your mess –

"I'm taking money out of your pay this week!"

I’m taking money out of your pay this week!”

"That's not fair, Eileen!"

He protests that is not fair, but, as usual, she points out that is in his contract.

"Finish this before you come in to lunch!"

“I’m not discussing it – and finish this before you come in for lunch!” she orders.

"You're going to regret this"

He mutters under his breath, “You’re going to regret this,”

"What did you say?"

so she turns and wants to know what he said.   “I said ‘no problem’,” he answers,

He has changed his mind

but this little encounter has obviously changed his mind.

Sioned is busy cleaning

Sioned is mopping the floor of the deli when Maya comes in again;

"Party in the Deri, everyone invited"

“I’ve organised a celebration, like you suggested – party in the Deri, everyone is invited – and I was hoping that Cae Glas might do the buffet.”

"I'll be happy to do it"

Sioned says that she would be happy to do so.

"I'll be in touch"

Maya will be in touch when she has a better idea of the numbers.

"Engagement party on Tuesday night"

Outside, she comes face-to-face with Yvonne;  “I was hoping you could come to an engagement party on Tuesday night.”

"Er . . . I don't know:

Yvonne is rather hesitant, but is informed, “It’s OK – I know about the past, you know – you and Dee used to see each other.

"It's no problem – honestly"

“I just wanted to say it’s no problem – honestly.”

"That means a lot"

Yvonne responds that it means a lot,

However, she is still troubled

but still appears to be very uneasy.

Sioned is keeping her beady eye on them

Sioned has been watching this little conversation from inside the deli.

Would they be passports, by any chance?

Meanwhile Delyth is searching through drawers in the pharmacy flat when she hears the door open,

Delyth sits at the table

so she sits down at the table.   Maya announces that she has something which might cheer up Delyth.

"Are we emigrating to Australia?"

“What?   Are we emigrating to Australia?”

"Check on Facebook"

but Maya says that it is the opposite and invites her to check on Facebook,

All the party details

which she does and finds details of the engagement party.

Not what Delyth wanted at the moment

This simply increases the stress on her.

"Have you seen this silly invitation?"

Sioned returns to Penrhewl where her sour-faced mother is waiting for her;  “Have you seen this silly invitation to the Deri on Tuesday?” she demands, “They barely know anyone in the village, but they’ve invited everyone!”

"They have names, you know"

Sioned angrily replies, “‘They’ have names, you know.”   Eileen supposes  that it is one way to make friends –

"Bribe everyone with free drinks"

“bribing everyone with free drinks.   “Well, as it happens, Maya has asked us to do the buffet,” Sioned informs her,

"And I've agreed, of course"

“And I’ve agreed, of course.”

“Oh, fair play to them for supporting local company – don’t worry, you won’t have to be there – I’ll sort it all out,” says Eileen.

"I shall be happy to be there"

Sioned tells her mother to stop it, pointing out that she will be happy to be there, happy for Maya and Delyth.

"You didn't need to warn Maya to stay away"

“So you didn’t need to go to warn Maya to stay away.   She came to ‘Tamed’ to tell me – it was so embarrassing.”

“Well, she must have misunderstood, because all I did was to buy these for DJ,”

"Why would DJ want them?"

at which Sioned picks up the tablets, demanding why DJ would want them.

“Well, they give a man a boost,” Eileen maintains, “DJ said himself that he is feeling the stress of trying for a baby and I wanted to help.

"Maya refused to sell me Viagra!"

“Maya refused to sell me Viagra!”

“Please tell me you haven’t shown these to DJ yet!” exclaims Sioned,

"The only stress round here is you!"

“Because the only stress round here is you!   So just leave us alone, will you?”

"I'm only being supportive"

Eileen argues that she is only being supportive and is told that she does not need to be.

“At least you like the idea of the engagement,” Eileen goes on, with Sioned pointing out that of course she does, as she and Maya are friends.

"For the last time, leave us alone!"

“So, for the last time, just leave us alone, will you?”

As she leaves the room, Eileen confirms that she will sort out the bill for the buffet,

"And put an extra zero on it!"

adding, under her breath, “And put an extra zero on it!”

Delyth has been talking to the top man

Delyth comes out of the boss’s office, telling him, “I really appreciate your sensitivity –

"I didn't make the decision lightly"

“I didn’t make this decision lightly and I don’t want to cause the force any embarrassment – thank you.”

DI Lloyd is watching suspiciously and asks if everything is all right;

"What's going on, then?"

he is anxious to know what is going on.   “We were discussing something personal,” replies Delyth, and again he urges her to simply tell the truth.

"Things will be easier if you confess"

“Things will be easier if you confess before I find evidence,” he continues

"Thanks for the offer"

and she turns away, thanking him for the offer.

"Sorry about earlier . . ."

Outside the shop, Howard encounters Kelly and apologises about earlier;  however his position now seems to have changed.

". . . sometimes we have to take risks, don't we?"

“But sometimes we need to take risks, don’t we?” he adds.

Kelly is surprised that he is agreeing to take part;  “Right, there’s a massive party in the Deri on Tuesday.”

"I don't enjoy parties"

Howard informs her that he does not enjoy parties, so she explains further, “Cae Glas are doing the catering, so that means . . .”

"Ah, right!"

Now he understands, “Ah, right – there won’t be anyone at Penrhewl.   My friend said we can borrow a lorry whenever we want – what about the sanctuary?”

They are under surveillance

Kelly will be dealing with that, then she notices Diane watching them from the other side of the road.

"See you around – yeah?"

Kelly loudly yells him, “I’m glad that we’ve cleared that up – see you around, yeah?”   Diane comes across, demanding if Howard is harassing her.

"I know how to handle him"

Kelly assures her, “No, it’s all good – I know how to handle him!”

Delyth puts out the rubbish

Delyth is putting out the rubbish behind the pharmacy when Yvonne appears round the corner;

"We can't see each other"

“I thought I’d made it clear to you that we can’t see each other,” growls Delyth.

"He's got no evidence"

Yvonne insists that DI Lloyd obviously has no evidence, or would have suspended – or arrested – her by now.”   Delyth reveals that she is being investigated, but this is suspected to be just scare tactics.

"It's only a matter of time"

“It’s only a matter of time until he works it all out,” sighs Delyth.

"You're just panicking"

Yvonne insists that they have been so careful, she must be just panicking.   Delyth concludes all over – she knows it is.  “Look, I’m so grateful that you would have taken the flak for me, OK, but promise me you won’t.

"It's over – OK?   I'm sorry"

“It’s over – OK?   I’m sorry.”

"But`I love you"

Yvonne protests that she loves Delyth and wants them to work through this together.

"Maya is in there"

“I can’t, OK?   And Maya is in there.”

Yvonne realises that it is over . . .

Yvonne realises that she is being rejected

. . . and hurries away to number 21

and hurries away along the back street.

"Have you had a good day?"
Britt is relaxing on the sofa with a mug of tea when the door opens and Yvonne marches in;  she is asked if she has had a good day.

"You have no idea what you've done!"

“You have no idea what you’ve done!” shouts Yvonne.

"I hope you're going up to pack!"

When she storms upstairs, Britt calls after her, “I hope you’re going up to pack!”

Delyth goes back inside

Meanwhile, Delyth is still standing outside by the bins, before summoning up the courage to go back inside.

Maya thanks her for sorting out the bins – a job which she hates.

"Come and sit down"

“Listen, come and sit down,” Delyth invites her, “I’ve got something important to tell you.

"I'm being bullied at work"

“This is all a bit difficult, but I’m being bullied at work – it’s been going on for months, but I didn’t want you to worry.”

"We're supposed to be a team"

Maya points out that they are supposed to be a team.   Delyth maintains that she cannot carry on any more;

"I've asked for a transfer . . ."

“I’ve asked for transfer – and I’ve been lucky – they’ve found me a post that suits me right down to the ground.

". . . and they want me to start in a few weeks"

“It’s just that they want me to start in just a few weeks.”

"Where is this?"

Maya is very anxious to learn where this new job is;  she is informed that it is in Sussex.

"You and I would have to move to Essex"

“You and I would have to move to Sussex.”

Maya is not in favour of that

This news is definitely not welcomed by Maya.
