Cassie is back

Cassie wheels her case into the Deri flat and puts on the kettle;  

A notebook lies open on the table . . .

she notices on the table an open notebook.   

. . . which intrigues Cassie

Listed there are several village businesses, The Pizza Place being crossed through and a question mark beside ‘'Tamed'’.

"Naughty, naughty"

As she looks at this, Eleri comes into the room, commenting, “Naughty, naughty – we’re not supposed to touch other peoples stuff.   

"We weren't expecting you until tomorrow"

“We weren’t expecting you back until tomorrow.”   Cassie replies that was the plan, but . . .

“Majorca didn’t impress?” assumes Eleri, “I find the beaches of Menorca are much better – Cala Turqueta’s lovely.”

"Have we met?"

“Sorry – have we met?” Cassie goes on 

"I'm Elery, Brynmor's daughter"

and is informed that the stranger is Eleri, Brynmor’s daughter, who is staying there for a while.

"As long as we mind our own business"

“As long as we mind our own business, we’ll get on just fine,” she tells Cassie, 

"We've got a right one here"

who has developed an instant dislike of her.

"How about breakfast in the village?"

Iolo comes downstairs in Y Felin with the luggage for the trip;  his father suggests, “I thought it will be nice if we had some breakfast in the village.”   Iolo makes it clear that he is not going to change his mind, but they are going.

"Surely you have time for breakfast"

Siôn insists that he has time for some breakfast, but Iolo would rather have some lunch later;  

"I need to see a few people"

“I need to see a few people before I go.”   Siôn will get a few treats for later.

Anita is very excited

Anita comes out of the door of APD in a state of considerable agitation;  Kath, who is just coming around the corner, asks if she is all right.   

"I've won a motorhome online!"

“Oh Kath, I’ve won a motorhome online!” she squeals, but Kath is convinced that it is a scam.

"You need to be careful, Anita"

“No, I’ve been trying a lot of competitions,” Anita continues, and Kath warns her that she needs to be careful.   

"I'll be able to travel all over the world!"

“I’d say you need to be less jealous!” Anita snaps at her, “I’ll be able to travel all over the world now – while you’re slaving away in the Deri – poor thing!”

"And I'll be able to get more peace"

Kath snarls, “And I’ll be able to get more peace while you’re travelling the world – best of luck to you!”   

Anita goes into the deli

Anita goes into the deli, full of excitement.

"How are you, Cassie?"

Cassie is drinking her cup of tea when Brynmor walks in and is surprised to see her;  “How are you?” Cassie asks, and is told that they were expecting her home tomorrow.   “I would have come home two days ago if I could find a flight – I was eaten alive by mosquitoes!   

"Talking about uninvited guests"

“Anyway, talking about uninvited guests . . .”

"Oh, you've met Eleri, then"

He appreciates that she has met Eleri;  

"She's looking good for 55"

“Yes – she’s looking good for 55,” Cassie remarks, “I take it she’s Heulwen’s daughter?”

"I thought it would be less embarrassing . . ."

Brynmor thought that it would be less embarrassing if he said he’d had an affair when he was young and stupid, rather than . . .   

"Middle-aged and stupid"

Cassie finishes the sentence for him, “Middle-aged and stupid.”

"There will be some noise for a few minutes"

Suddenly Eleri comes rushing in, carrying a battery-powered drill to which she attaches the battery, informing them that there will be some noise for a few minutes.   

"Eleri likes her privacy"

“Eleri likes her privacy,” says Brynmor, and offers to do the job for his daughter.

"Thanks, Dadi"

“Oh, thanks, Dadi,” she enthuses and kisses him.   

"I never thought that would mean so much to me"

He confides to Cassie that he never thought being called Dadi would mean so much to him.   

Cassie tries to look inscrutable

Cassie simply shakes her head in disbelief.

In the cemetery, where the trees are in full leaf, 

Iolo visits Tyler's grave

Iolo approaches Tyler’s grave;  

"I couldn't leave without coming to see you"

“Hey,” he says, “I couldn’t leave without coming to see you.”

Griffiths happens to notice Anita in the deli

Griffiths is passing the deli when he notices Anita inside, now looking very glum, so he goes in to see what is the problem.  

"Anita, love, what's wrong?"

“Anita, love, what’s wrong?”

"A fridge magnet"

She rather enigmatically replies, “A fridge magnet!” then adds, “I’ve been on the phone for half an hour to win a magnet to put on the fridge.”   

This baffles Ieuan

Ieuan does not quite follow her train of thought, 

"It says I've won a motorhome"

so she explains further, “Look, it says here I’ve won a motorhome, but I have to phone that number on the bottom to confirm it.”

"Premium line – £1.50 a minute"

He gives the phone screen a cursory glance and informs her that it is premium line;  “£1.50 a minute,” which she regards as cheap for a motorhome.   Then he adds, “Or any other prizes – there’s a list of other prizes in the small print at the end.”

"Blinking crooks!"

Anita simply describes them as, “Blinking crooks!” and walks out of the deli, while Ieuan tells her that they have not done anything wrong, 

"It's all there in black and white"

as it is all there in black and white.

“Tell me, how long were you on the phone?”   When she confirms that it was about half an hour, he groans that she has spent about £50 on a fridge magnet.

"You're going to pay"

“Well, I haven’t actually,” is Anita’s reply, “You bought me this phone and the contract on my birthday – so you’re going to pay.”

"Your head needs to the looked at!"

Griffiths’ temper erupts, “What?   Your head needs to be looked at!   

"You're a blinkin' liability!"

“You’re a blinkin’ liability!” and he marches off along the road, leaving Anita looking stunned.

"Why didn't you say you were coming?"

Kath is serving in the Deri when Cassie comes downstairs;  she also asks why she had not informed them she was coming home early.   

"How many refugees?"

“It’s lucky I did – or who knows how many refugees I’d have found here?”

Kath points out that Eleri is family.   “Do we know anything about Eleri’s history?”   Kath insists that of course they do and they go to sit down at a table for a chat.

"She's Brynmor's daughter"

“She’s Brynmor’s daughter – he’s been over in the states for the last few months, helping her with several court cases to keep her out of jail – you know all of this,” Kath explains.   

"Why has she landed here?"

Cassie wants to know why she has landed there;  

"She was found not guilty"

“Because she was found not guilty – they proved that her partner, Kyle, stole all the money, not her – all charges dropped.   Do you know what?   Just give her a chance – yeah?   She’s a bit naïve, just like her father – do you know what I’ll do?   I will make us all some lunch, OK, so you can see for yourself.”

Cassie takes all this with much more than a pinch of salt

Cassie is obviously not swallowing all of this.

"I want to put a limit on the account"

At Tomos ac Ellis, Griffiths is on the phone;  “I want a limit put on the account,” just as Kelly shows in a customer and invites her to take a seat.

"Yes, Anita, my partner"

Meanwhile Griffiths is explaining, “Yes, it’s Anita’s account, my girlfriend, partner, but I pay the bills – I shouldn’t be punished because she’s so gullible!   

"She's a woman!"

“She’s a woman!” he exclaims.   

The client has had enough

This is regarded as being offensive by both Kelly and the client, so Kelly goes across to complain, as he continues ranting, “Do you know what?   I expected better!”

Before Kelly can say anything to him, the client has walked out.   

"You're scaring them off, like!"

“What’s the point?” she demands, “I’m trying to bring in new clients to the business and you’re scaring them off, like!”

"You can blame Auntie Neet!"

“You can blame Auntie Neet!” he growls and she wonders what her aunt has done now.   

"Fallen for a scam – and it's coming out of my pocket!"

“Fallen for a scam – of course she’s all right – it’s coming out of my pocket!   

"It will be curtains for the business – and me!"

“If something doesn’t happen quickly, it will be curtains for the business – and me!”   

Kelly is aghast

Kelly is very shocked.

"We talk about you a lot"

Iolo puts flowers on Tyler’s grave and says, “We talk about you a lot – and we’re so glad to have our memories.   

"I love you, Tyler"

“I love you, Tyler.”   

Iolo walks away

He smiles as he picks up the bag and walks away.

"I made it specially for you, Eleri"

Around the lunch table at the Deri flat, Kath is surprised that Eleri likes her Coq au Vin;  “I made it specially for you, Eleri – only the best.   

"And plenty of mash"

“And there’s plenty of mash to soak up the juices.”

"I try to avoid carbs"

“I try to avoid carbs,” Eleri comments, “But the chicken’s perfect.”

Brynmor likes mash

As Brynmor helps himself to a large portion of mash, Cassie remarks, 

"I noticed you intend to get a job"

“I noticed that you intend to get a job while you’re here, Eleri – but MFC or APD?”   Brynmor wonders why she said that.

“I saw the list on the table over there,” replies Cassie, 

"You must be mistaken"

but Eleri suggests that she was mistaken, which is understandable with the jet setting catching up with her.

Kath encourages everyone to pitch in, as she does not want any waste.   

"You're lucky, Dad"

Eleri says  that the sauce is lovely;  “You’re lucky, Dad, finding someone so special.”   

Cassie's cynicism shows

Cassie’s suspicions deepen.

"How disastrous is this pickle?"

Griffiths walks along the street to Tomos ac Ellis and Kelly follows him, desiring to know, “How disastrous is this pickle you’ve got yourself into?”   

"I'll contact my financial advisor"

He angrily answers, “If I wanted advice, I would contact my financial advisor.”

She wonders, How would you pay him?   With peanuts?” 

"I regret mentioning it"

and he regrets mentioning it.   “Unfortunately for you, it’s in my best interests to help you,” she reminds him.

"If you want to help, shut your chops!"

“Look if you want to help me, take this coat and shut your chops!” he snarls, “There’s no point losing any sleep about it!”   

He is unmistakably troubled

However, he is looking extremely worried.

"What are you doing, Tad-cu?"

At Y Felin, Siôn is looking through a box of things he found in the attic, and Greta asks, “What are you doing?”   He replies that it is a box of Grandma’s things, 

"Not going all sentimental again, are you?"

and Iolo accuses his father of getting all sentimental again.

"I found one of your mother's diaries"

Greta goes to play with her toys while Iolo talks to his father;  Siôn produces one of Gwen’s diaries.   

"She travelled through South America years ago"

“I remembered earlier that she travelled through South America years ago.   I thought you might like the diary in order to follow in her footsteps – not literally perhaps, but you know . . .”

"Have you found any secrets?"

Iolo wonders if his father found any secrets;  “Or am I going to regret asking?”   There is a bucket list from when she was 21.

"Do something out of your comfort zone"

Iolo reads, “Do something out of your comfort zone, get to know a stranger.”   Then there are more specific things like climbing three peaks in 24 hours, watching the sunset on Bardsey Island – 

"Swim naked in the sea!"

besides swimming naked in the sea.

"Life is much too short . . .

Siôn regrets that she did not manage to do enough of them;  “But you know what all this proves, don’t you?   Life is much too short – 

". . . and I'm glad you're going"

“and I know I tried to persuade you not to go, but I’m glad you are.”   

Greta is engrossed

Meanwhile, Greta is busy with her toys.

Anita sits disconsolately

Just inside the back door of APD, Anita is sitting disconsolately on an upturned bucket 

"Oh aye – this is your hidey-hole, is it?"

when Kelly walks into the shop;  “Oh aye – this is your hidey-hole, is it?”   Anita assumes that Ieuan has told her.

"I wanted to check everything's all right, like"

Kelly pulls up something to sit on and comments that Anita is usually savvy, “So I wanted to check everything’s all right, like”.   

"I got a bit excited"

Anita explains that she she got a little bit excited, thinking that she could retire and then travel around Europe in a big posh motorhome.

"Easily done"

“Easily done,” Kelly agrees, 

"But why was Ieuan so angry?"

but Anita cannot understand why Ieuan was so angry over £50.   “Yeah, well – every penny counts at the moment,” remarks Kelly, “Just, you know – cost-of-living crisis and stuff.”

"Ieuan doesn't have to worry about that"

“Ieuan doesn’t have to worry about that,” is Anita’s reply.

"He's just a miserable old . . . Cardi"

She is told, “Ieuan is just a miserable old . . . Cardi, isn’t he?   Anyway, I’m glad everything is all right.”

"Do you need any help, Kath?"

After the meal, Eleri offers to help Kath, but is told that guests are not supposed to clear up;  

"Why don't you have a nap?"

“Why don’t you copy your father and have a nap?” it is suggested, but Eleri is supposed to meet someone for a drink in Cross Hands – a friend.

"There's a delivery outside"

Then Kath has a phone message that a delivery has arrived outside, so goes down to deal with it.   

"I wouldn't refuse some help"

“Perhaps Kath doesn’t need your help, but I won’t refuse,” says Cassie, disapprovingly.

"You don't like me, do you?"

Eleri repeats that guests are not supposed to clear up and is told that she is not a guest.   

“You don’t like me, do you?” Eleri demands.

"I don't like people who say I'm lying"

“I didn’t say that, but I don’t like people who say that I’m lying,” Cassie answers.   

"It was just a misunderstanding"

It is pointed out that the list was just a misunderstanding;  she maintains that she does not wish to raise her father’s hopes of her getting a job before she actually does so.

"Don't try to pull the wool over my eyes"

Cassie is not fooled for a moment, but warns, “Don’t try to pull the wool over my eyes,” then Eleri receives a very conveniently timed text;  

"Sorry, I don't have time to help"

she regrets that she does not have time to help, 

No mistaking what Cassie thinks of her

as she has to get changed before meeting her friend.

"Have you got everything?"

“Have you got everything?” asks Siôn, “Passports?   Greta’s travel sickness pills?   As soon as you get Wi-Fi . . .”   Iolo assures him that he will be in touch, and enquires which toy Greta wants to take with her.   

Greta selects her travelling companion . . .

She picks up a toy 

. . . and gives Grandad a cwtch

and gives Grandad a cwtch.

"Look after Dadi for me"

“Look after Dadi for me,” he tells her and then it is time to go.   

"Don't make a fuss, Dad"

Iolo warns his father not to make a fuss and they will see him in three months.   He hopes that all the things found in the attic will keep his father busy.

Siôn hugs his son

Siôn insists on giving his son a hug, but Greta objects;  

"Come on, Dad!"

“Come on, Dad!” she urges him, 

Off they go to Ecuador . . .

and off they go.   

. . . and Siôn is left alone

Siôn looks upset.

"It's not fair you're keeping this from Auntie Neet"

In the Tomos ac Ellis office, Kelly complains, “It isn’t fair that you’re keeping this from Auntie Neet – she should be the first to know about your financial problems.”

Unknown to them, Anita has just come silently into the office and listens to the conversation;  “I’ll sort them out,” insists Griffiths.

"If, or when, I lose my job"

“What should I say if, or when, I lose my job?” Kelly demands.   

They find someone is listening . . .

Then they hear a voice behind them, wondering why she would lose her job.

. . . and wants some answers

“And what’s all this about financial problems?”   Griffiths maintains that it is nothing 

"Kelly's making a mountain out of a molehill"

and that Kelly is making a mountain out of a molehill.

“Do you know what?   I give up!” Kelly exclaims, but Anita demands to know what this is all about.   

"Tomos ac Ellis is in trouble"

“Tomos ac Ellis is in trouble – and I’m convinced it’s not the full picture.”  

"Sorry, but she deserves to know the truth"

She turns to Griffiths, adding, “Sorry, but she deserves to know the truth,” 

Kelly walks out in disgust

then picks up her coat and bag and walks out of the shop.

"Talk to me, love"

“Come on, then, Ieuan – talk to me, love,” says Anita, 

"It's just a  blip"

but he describes it merely as a blip and he is sure that everything will be all right in a couple of months.

From this she gathers that things are bad;  “Ieuan, I know you better than you think I do – 

"Things are looking bad, aren't they?"

“look at me!   Tell the truth!   Don’t let me hear this from someone else.   Things are looking bad for you, aren’t they?”

He agrees that they are

He sadly nods his head and she demands just how bad they are, wondering if he is in danger of losing Tomos ac Ellis.

"I'm bankrupt!"

“I’m in danger of losing everything – I’m bankrupt!” he confesses.
