"Anita can manage on her own"

DJ announces to Sioned that he is not going into the deli this morning;  “Anita can manage in there.”   Sioned hopes that it is not because of her, insisting that she will be fine and will be going for a walk today to check on the deli.

"I want to go on my own, OK?"

He is equally insistent that he will come with her, but she snaps, “No, I want to go on my own, OK?   Please will you stop fussing?”

"I've come to beg for a favour"

Then a visitor arrives in the form of Cai;  “Is it a convenient time for a chat – or to beg for a favour for the auction of promises?”   

"Oh yes, Siôn mentioned that"

DJ has heard about that from Siôn.   Sioned takes this as her cue to leave the house, 

"I'll be fine, DJ"

and Cai says that it is great to see her looking so well;  she is just grateful to still be here and once more tells DJ that she will be fine.

Dani is pretty flustered as usual

Dani comes downstairs at number 7, carrying a teddy bear, and there is a knock at the door.   Britt comes in, moaning, “I’ve left you a couple of messages,” but Dani replies that she has been busy.   

"I want to to phone the police or whoever"

“I want you to phone the police, or courts, or whoever – and tell them you regret what you said and that you overreacted, because you’ve been through so much with Garry and Tyler!”

"I don't regret it"

“No – I don’t regret it,” Dani informs her, “I can’t have a person who tried to kill someone living with my children.”   

"He didn't know Kelly and Jinx were in there"

Britt maintains that Gwern did not know that Jinx and Kelly were there.

"That's exactly what Gwyneth said!"

“That’s exactly what Gwyneth said – that she didn’t know that Brandon was in there!” Dani reminds her, “Please, Britt, just try to see things from my point of view – I’ve got two little children – I have to do what’s best for them.” 

"You know how sweet he is!"

“But you’ve known Gwern since he was a baby,” Britt snarls, “You know how sweet he is – you brought him up.   Look, why don’t you go and see him?   Perhaps you’ll feel differently.”   

"He doesn't want to see me, Britt"

Dani replies that he has made it clear does not want to see her.

"Don't turn your back on him, Dani!"

“Don’t turn your back on him, Dani!” Britt warns, “If his own family gives up on him what hope does he have?”

Sioned is definitely not happy

Sioned is sitting outside the Deri, looking very upset, 

"Are you OK, Sioned?"

but fortunately Maya notices her and comes over;  Sioned says that she is OK, but it is obvious that this is not true.   

"That's totally normal"

“I’m just feeling a bit emotional,” she goes on and Maya tells her that is totally normal.

“I’ve been so lucky – and I don’t know why,” sobs Sioned, 

"I've done some horrible things in my life"

“I’ve done some horrible things in my life.”   Maya tries to comfort her, as she continues, “I just don’t deserve this.”   

"Breathe deeply"

She is told to breathe deeply and feels a little calmer as a result.

“Is this the first time out since you’ve been home?” Maya asks, and will buy Sioned a drink in the Deri;  Sioned thinks that she is the one who owes Maya a drink.   

"You owe me a champagne vineyard"

“You owe me a champagne vineyard, after everything I’ve done for you,” is the reply.

"Arwen and friends will go round with buckets"

Jinx is at Y Felin, where he displays a banner for the auction and suggests they put up a few balloons in the Deri;  “Arwen and a couple of friends will go round with collecting buckets.”   Siôn thought that Ffion was going to do that, 

"Staff training day"

but is informed that the teachers are at school today for a staff training day, but they will be done by two o’clock.

"I'm sure Cai will throw himself into this . . ."

“I’m sure Cai will throw himself into this auction of promises,” says Siôn, 

". . . I can't believe the change in him"

“I can’t believe the change in him.”   Neither can Jinx, and at that minute, he walks in, 

Cai reels off a long list

announcing that he has a meal for two at the Glyndwr, two days worth of labour from APD, two services from Jenkins motors, three hampers from Penrhewl, 

"Eyebrow threading – whatever that is . . ."

“and Jolene’s salon will do a re-style, shellac nails and eyebrow threading – whatever that is.”

". . . do you fancy it, Siôn?"

He wonders whether Siôn fancies that, and Jinx describes his efforts as brilliant;  he has also put a link online so that people can bid.   

Siôn is very pleased

Siôn is extremely pleased that he is helping.

Cai in turn is grateful to Ffion and the two of them for helping him;  “I wouldn’t be able to do this without you.”   

"The important thing is that you're feeling better"

Jinx replies that the important thing is that he is feeling better.

He is off to prick more consciences

“Right, I’m off to prick the conscience of more business-people,” Cai declares.

"I just feel so angry – so confused"

In the Deri, over a cup of tea, Sioned is told that she is experiencing ‘survivor’s guilt’.   “I just feel so angry – so confused – I don’t know how to make it stop,” she says.   Maya tells her that she is going to have to find the tools to help her deal with what has happened to her, psychologically as well as physically.

"I don't want to go to counselling"

Sioned makes it very clear that she does not want to go to counselling, 

"I do a mindfulness class online"

but Maya suggests, “I do a mindfulness class online every Tuesday and Thursday night – it help you get rid of that noise inside your head – because that’s all it is, thoughts driving you mad.”

"What about other people's noise?"

“What about other people’s noise?” Sioned asks, “Mam and DJ are fussing quite a bit,” 

"You'll learn to turn the volume down"

and she is told that she will learn to turn the volume down.   

"I can't believe I wasn't that keen on you"

“You’re so good to me – I can’t believe I wasn’t that keen on you when we first met.”

"I'm a machine on that field"

“Oh – you were jealous – I’m a machine on that field!” Maya brags.   

"I don't know how I'll ever thank you"

Sioned was on her way to see Maya today and thank her, “But now you saved my life again – I don’t know how I’ll ever thank you.”   

"We'll only speak Welsh"

Maya proposes that they should meet once a week for coffee – and only speak Welsh.   Sioned considers that in return for saving her life, she is getting a bargain.

"I'm going for a cool vibe"

At Cysgod y Glyn, Cai puts five white envelopes into his rucksack as Arwen asks if he is ready and when he describes her as smart, says that she is going for a cool vibe rather than smart.   

"Are you in contact with Gwern?"

He asks, “Are you in contact with Gwern?” 

"Mam won't let me write to him"

and is told that Ffion will not let her write to him.

“Well, if you become friends again, don’t let him influence you.   You’re a special girl – I’d hate to see him drag you into trouble,” Cai advises, then produces a present for her, a new laptop for her school work.

"That's amazing – thanks, Uncle Cai!"

She cannot understand why he has done this, and he maintains that she deserves it;  “That’s amazing – thanks Uncle Cai!” she exclaims, and now it is time for them to go.

He turns off his phone . . .

Before he leaves the flat, he takes out his phone, switches it off 

. . . and leaves it behind

and leaves it on the counter.

Delyth and Maya arrive

Maya is carrying a box of items from the pharmacy when she arrives at the Deri with Delyth;  

Siôn corrects her pronunciation

of course Siôn has to correct her Welsh pronunciation.   “For the auction – 

"Drugs for all your needs"

“drugs for all your needs!” she tells him, 

He is not too sure about that

which causes him some alarm until she explains, “A few smellies and some bathroom stuff.”

She will buy Siôn a drink;  

"You look like a real ale man to me"

“Don’t tell me – you look like a real ale man to me!”   

"One more item for the auction"

Then Cai and Arwen come in to assist Siôn;  there is one more item for the auction – Iolo has promised two boiler services.

"Don't open this now"

“And before I forget, a cheque for the cause – but don’t open it now,” Cai adds.   Siôn insists that he has done enough already.

Sioned is studying something

Sioned is looking at the laptop and when DJ comes in he looks over her shoulder;  

"Oh, mindfulness, is it?"

“Oh, mindfulness, is it?”   He is told that Maya was talking about it earlier, and that she was a lot of help.   

"Have I upset you or something?"

“Not like me, then,” he mutters, “Have I upset you or something?   I know you’re angry about the Ireland stuff.”

"I'm angry about what happened to me!"

She is quick to point out that she is not angry with him;  “I’m angry about what happened to me!”

Cai is deep in thought

Cai is sitting just outside the door of the Deri and is thinking when Delyth comes out with her phone.   

"Have you been away?"

He is awakened from his reverie as she remarks, “I haven’t seen you for a while – have you been away?”   

"Yes – but I'm back now"

He replies that he has but he is back now.

“Ready for when the children return tomorrow?” she continues, 

"Sorry – typical police officer"

“Sorry – typical police officer – too many questions.”

"Ffion has given me some time off"

Cai tells her that he is not going back to work for a few weeks, as Ffion has given him some time off to see the kids – “I’m going to see them later today, as it happens – in North Wales.   I like driving later in the day – there is less traffic.   Have you got kids?”

"Maya wants kids – and so do I"

“No – but Maya wants kids and so do I,” says Delyth;  Cai advises her not to wait too long, as time flies.   When Siôn comes out, Delyth goes back inside wishing him a safe journey.

"What did she mean by 'safe journey'?"

“Would you give me a hand with this live feed?” Siôn asks, “What did she mean by ‘safe journey’?”   

"I'm going to see an old college friend"

Cai answers that he said he might go and see an old college friend.

"My body's let me down – again!"

“I don’t know how to explain this, but I just feel that my body’s let me down, again!” Siôn tells DJ, “Almost like it’s betrayed me – it won’t let me have a baby and then my heart just stops!   What’s next?   

"I'm frightened, all the time"

“I’m frightened, all the time – and I’m taking it out on the people closest to me.   That’s why I’m looking into mindfulness – to try and control all these thoughts I’m having.”

"I had no idea, Sioned"

DJ had no idea she was feeling like that, and as she hugs him, 

"I just want to feel normal"

she says that she just wants to feel normal.   

"Life will never be normal while you're around . . ."

“Sioned, life will never be normal while you’re around the place,” he assures her, 

". . . that's why I love you"

“That’s why I love you.   All that’s important is that you get stronger – and any time you feel angry, well, I’m happy for you to take it out on me.”

"It doesn't include the new kitchen!"

In his rôle as Master of Ceremonies, Siôn announces the next lot in the auction;  “APD is offering two days’ labour – now, to be clear, that doesn’t include the materials or the new kitchen!”

He is interrupted by Jinx who informs him that there is a £50 bid from Megan Harries.   

"£800!

Maya is determined to beat that, but with her limited knowledge of Welsh, bids £800 instead of the intended £80;  

"What you mean is £80!"

this is quickly corrected by Delyth.   

Cai slips surreptitiously away

Cai is watching the proceedings from the sidelines and thinks that now is an opportune moment to slip away.

"Ieuan Griffiths – £130"

Ieuan Griffiths bids £130 

Outside the Deri, Cai sees Dani

as Cai gets outside and notices Dani sitting glumly at one of the tables.   

"You've been busy"

“You’ve been busy,” she remarks, and he says that he was just doing his bit.   

"How is Gwern?"

He asks how Gwern is doing, and she imagines that Britt has said something.

“No, I’m just asking,” he replies, but she is not sure how Gwern is, as he does not want to see her.   “Well, don’t give up on him – especially while he’s in there,” Cai recommends, 

"Without hope, what do we have?"

“He needs support – and hope – without that, what do we have?” and he walks away, 

His attitude puzzles Dani

leaving Dani looking puzzled.

"How much have we made, Jinx?"

Inside, Siôn is very excited;  “Good grief – we’ve done so well!   How much have we made, Jinx?”   

"£638.50"

The total is announced as £638.50, and the financial contributions have not yet been counted.   

"We'll take a five minute break"

“We’ll take a five minute break and then we’ll bring you the full total – well done everyone!”

"Where's Cai?"

Siôn suddenly realises that he cannot see Cai;  Jinx assumes that he is rather embarrassed about the amount he has donated.   

Cai's cheque is for £10,000

He hands the cheque to Siôn, who gasps with astonishment, “£10,000 – he can’t afford that.   Right, I’m going to see if he’s outside.”

"Have you seen Cai?"

Dani is still out there and informs Siôn that Cai just left, but did not say where he was going;  

"Is there something wrong?"

“Is there something wrong?” she asks.  Then Delyth also comes out, and says that Cai told her he was going to see his children in North Wales.

"His children are in France"

“Oh no – his children are in France, and he knows that,” answers Siôn;  Delyth detects that there is a problem here, 

"He was acting weirdly"

and Dani points out that he was acting a bit weirdly earlier.

"He's been suffering quite badly with depression"

“He’s been suffering quite badly with depression,” Jinx remarks, 

"It's going straight to answerphone"

and Siôn reports that a phone call is going straight to answerphone.   

"I'll go over to the flat"

Jinx will go over to the flat in case he is there, while Siôn has a look around the village.   Dani will also join in the search.

Cai's phone is at Cysgod y Glyn 

When Jinx and Arwen arrive back at Cysgod y Glyn they find Cai’s phone there;  

"It's not even my birthday!"

“And he’s bought me a really expensive laptop – it’s not even my birthday!” Arwen exclaims.

"If you see him, let me know"

Dani is asking at the door of number 12, 

Geraint will do that

and we find that is the home of Geraint.   The searchers have found no sign of him 

"He's left his phone as well"

and have been informed that he has left his phone as well.   

Could he be a danger to himself – or anyone else?"

Delyth suspects that he might be a danger to his own life or someone else.

“To himself, perhaps, but I don’t think this is about anyone else,” Siôn answers, “His car isn’t here, either.”   

"We'd better phone the police"

Jinx considers that they should phone the police, but Delyth is determined to take it from here.

"Where does he tend to go?"

“Where does he tend to go when he wants to be alone?” she asks, and there are various answers, such as walking in Coed Mynach, so Jinx will go there.   

"I'll try The Bull at Llanarthur"

Siôn will try The Bull at Llanarthur and Arwen will go back to the flat, in case he comes back there.   

"I'll look around in the car"

The DS will get in her car and have a good look around.

Arwen heads to her bedroom . . .

The first place Arwen goes when she reaches Cysgod y Glyn 

. . . where the gun is now missing . . .

is to check under her bed, 

. . . which she finds alarming

and she is horrified to find that the gun is missing.   

What is she going to do now?

She does not know what to do.
