Jason is frying bacon

Jason is cooking breakfast for Dai, while DJ has been to collect Dai’s tablets from the pharmacy;

"Right, you have to take these every day"

“Right, you have to take these every day and these every night,” DJ advises.

Jason is surprised that he needs more tablets already, but is told by Dai, “You need a regular ‘full monty’ to keep a machine like this going!”

"He needs to take them with food"

DJ points out that Maya said he needs to take the tablets with food;  “It’s lucky that the bacon’s almost ready, then,” says Dai,

"Do you want some breakfast, DJ?"

and Jason offers DJ some breakfast, but he replies that he will have something when he gets home.

“I don’t think bacon is what Maya had in mind,” DJ warns, but is told to stop fussing, as Diane is not there.

"Don't forget the brown sauce, Jason"

Jason is reminded to bring over the brown sauce as well.

"Aren't you supposed to cut his toenails?"

DJ leaves for home, but Jason asks, “Aren’t you supposed to cut his toenails?”   DJ says he has enough work to do already.   “He can’t do it – he can’t reach,” says Jason.

"You can do it"

DJ’s answer is, “You’ll have to wait until Diane comes back – or you do it!   Enjoy your bacon, boys.”

"I could really do with a holiday, Math"

On the golf course Rhys and Mathew are playing, with Rhys very pleased with his shot;  “Do you know what, Math – I could really do with a holiday,” he sighs,

"Golfing in the Costa del Sol?"

and Mathew suggests a golfing holiday in the Costa Del Sol or the Algarve.

“You are joking, aren’t you?   I don’t want to spend a week in a hotel with pensioners in turtlenecks!” Rhys moans,

"Somewhere with girls and tequila"

“Somewhere with girls and tequila – that’s what I need.”

"We're not 20 any more, Rhys"

Mathew reminds him that they are not 20 any more, but he continues, “We’re not 50 either – I want to go somewhere with a bit of life.   Ibiza, perhaps – what do you say, Math, you and me?”   Mathew makes it clear that he does not want to stay up drinking until 4:00 am, but it is pointed out that they enjoyed Lapland;  “It will be like Lapland – only in flip-flops!

"You'll never be as young and free again"

“You’ll never be as young and free again.”

It appears that Mathew has been easily persuaded;  he takes his shot, which is apparently a good one,

Mathew heads for the clubhouse

then has to go to the toilet.   “You should have gone before we started,” Rhys protests.

Sioned has made her decision

DJ is eating his breakfast at the farmhouse when Sioned comes into the room, carrying her laptop.   “Right, are you ready?” she says to her mother, “I’ve decided what I’m going to do with the land.”

"You've worked that out quickly"

Eileen is surprised that she has worked it out so quickly.

"We're having a chicken shed"

“I’m so excited, I can hardly think of anything else,” Sioned tells her, “We’re having a chicken shed.”

"Beti and Blodwyn already have a shed"

points out that Beti and Blodwen already have a chicken shed, but she is not talking about them;

"A lot more than that – 70,000!"

“I’m talking about a lot more chickens than that – 70,000!   I know that’s a lot, but we could make a lot of profit.”

"You're supposed to be resting, Sioned"

He reminds her that she is supposed to be resting, not killing herself with chicken sheds, and urges Eileen to tell her.

"Its doesn't suit Sioned to be idle"

“It doesn’t suit Sioned to be idle – a project like this is a way of occupying your mind – isn’t it?” she says,
He seems to have been overruled

and DJ realises that he is outnumbered.

Maya hugs Delyth

Delyth and Maya emerge from the pharmacy, and Delyth is wished good luck;  after they hug,

"Just relax"

she is told to relax.

"Perhaps I should call in sick"

“Perhaps I should call in sick – I can always say I had a dodgy takeaway or something,”

"It's just a chat with the boss"

she is told that it is simply a chat with the boss.

“Yeah, but they’ve never called me in at short notice like this before,” the DS worries,

"I'm convinced it's about the gun"

“I’m convinced it’s about the gun.   He just said he wanted to see me first thing – I’m sorry, it’s just me – I’m really worried about it.”

"Everything will be all right"

“Whatever it is, everything will be all right – now, go,” Maya tells her.

"Look who I found in the clubhouse"

Mathew returns to the course, announcing, “Look who I found in the clubhouse!”   Rhys discovers that it is his father, who says he is looking forward to the holiday in Ibiza, which he admits would not be his first choice.

"Hang on, Dad"

Rhys is becoming concerned about this, and Mathew explains, “I told your father we were going . . .” and Hywel is anxious to know whether they are going all inclusive or AirBnB.

"I'll sort out the taxi to the airport"

He tells them not to worry about the cost, as he will sort out the taxi to the airport.

“Yes, I’m looking forward to it – a few señoritas, now I’m single,” he continues

Rhys is har from happy about this

and by now Rhys is very troubled about it,

Hywel and Mathew laugh

but Hywel and Mathew look at each other and laugh.

"That should keep Huwi quiet for a while"

Eileen come downstairs, predicting that the muffins and Sam Tân [Fireman Sam] will keep Huwi quiet for a while.   Sioned is studying the laptop and finds that there are a lot of similar applications in Ceredigion.

"There's been a lot of opposition"

“There has been a lot of opposition to the larger ones – people complaining about the noise and the waste going into the rivers.”

"I'll make a cup of tea"

She ignores her mother, who suggests that she needs a break and a cup of tea.

"And it's not just the size of the shed"

“And it’s not just the size of the shed that can be a problem – you’ve got the food bins, access, carbon footprint,” she continues.

"Stop and have something to eat"

Eileen tells her to stop and have something to eat,

"I'm not hungry"

but Sioned maintains that she is not hungry.

"Something is worrying you, isn't it?"

“You didn’t eat any lunch, either – something is worrying you, isn’t it?” says her mother,

"There are a lot of obstacles"

and she explains it away by emphasising there are a lot of obstacles with this planning permission.

"Oh, don't worry about the planning"

“Oh – don’t worry about the planning – I’ll sort that,” Eileen confidently asserts, but she will not go into any details, merely telling Sioned, “Leave it to me.”

"I've just been cutting Dai's toenails"

Jason has just come rushing downstairs when Kelly comes into the house;  “Urgh – I’ve just been cutting Dai’s toenails!” he tells her with distaste, and must immediately wash his hands.

"He was going to trim his beard in the bathroom"

“He was going to trim his beard in the bathroom,” he adds.

"You can get monthly appointments"

“Do you know what?   You can get monthly appointments – not with the barber – with a podiatrist,” she says,

"He doesn't even like getting his own prescriptions"

and Jason comments that Dai does not even like getting his own prescriptions.   “Yeah, well, Diane’s too soft on him!” is Kelly’s verdict,

"I hope she doesn't stay too long in Spain"

and Jason hopes that she does not intend to stay too long in Spain.

"It's quite sweet, though, isn't it?"

“It’s quite sweet though, isn't it?   Not Dai – their relationship – how much they love each other after all this time.   Do you think you’ll trim my nails we’re that age?”

"We have a while to go before then"

He points out that they have a while to go before then,

"Crikey Moses, Jason!"

but before anything else can be said there is a crash upstairs, and Dai’s voice, demanding, “Crikey Moses, Jason!”

"What now?"

Jason rushes upstairs to investigate.

Mathew's golf is improving

Still on the golf course, Mathew manages another perfect shot,

"I can't remember the last time I was in a nightclub"

and Hywel goes on, “I can’t remember the last time I was in a nightclub – I shall need a bit of Dutch – well, Spanish – courage before getting up to dance.”

"The girls will run a mile!"

Rhys growls, “Dad dancing – great – the girls will run a mile!” but Hywel considers that he might start running again, so as look his best in his Speedos.

"What's up?"

When Hywel and Mathew burst out laughing, Rhys turns

"You're so easy to wind up!"

and is told by his father, “You’re so easy to wind up!   The only clubs I’m interested at my age are golf clubs.”

"I need to pace myself"

Mathew against stresses that he does not want a session every night, but needs to pace himself.

"You can practise tonight"

Rhys proposes that they have a couple of drinks tonight, so that he can practise.   Hywel jokes, “Good – what time will that be?”   Rhys hits a very poor shot and blames them for upsetting him.

Dai appears to be in great pain

Dai is lying on the sofa, apparently in terrible pain, with Jason, Kelly and DJ ministering to him.

"It was only a little slip"

He protests that it was only a little slip, and Jason will go and get the frozen peas to apply to his leg.

"Is everything OK between us?"

Kelly follows Jason;  “Jase, is everything OK?” she demands.   He replies that he is not a doctor.   “No, between us!” she stresses, “You’re just a bit . . .

"Let me sort out Dai first"

He would like to sort out Dai first and then they will talk about it.

Kelly looks discouraged

Kelly does not look at all confident.

"You should have the health visitor"

DJ suggests that Dai should have the health visitor to the house, but he will not hear of it.   Jason applies the cold compress as DJ thinks that there should be anti slip rails and handrails on the stairs;  “I can’t come over every time you need a bath.”

“You don’t want to upset the boss,” Dai growls,

"We'll have a chat later"

and Kelly has had enough of this, maintaining that she has to go back to the office;  they will have a chat later and hopes that Dai gets better soon.

"About putting me in a home?"

“Chat about what?   About putting me in a home?” Dai demands, and she points out that she does not want to chat to him.

"Before I get pneumonia in my ankle!"

Now Dai wants them to shift the icebag, “Before I get pneumonia in my ankle!”

“Right now, are you two misery guts going to tell me the latest about your love lives or what?

"Come on – spill the beans!"

“Come on, spill the beans!”

Jason and DJ look at each other

Jason and DJ look at each other.

Maya is chopping vegetables

In the flat above the pharmacy, Maya is preparing a meal and as she chops a courgette, Delyth returns – in a much happier mood.

"Arwen didn't mention the gun"

“Arwen spoke to the police last week and she didn’t mention the gun – Gwern clearly hasn’t told the police, since his arrest, which means . . .”

"You're in the clear!"

“You’re in the clear!” Maya exclaims

"He congratulated me for helping Cai"

and is informed that Delyth’s boss called her in to congratulate her on helping Cai.

They are both very relieved

That is a great relief to Maya and they hug each other.

"Lots of paperwork"

It appears that Maya is now using more Welsh as she describes her day, which included a delivery and lots of paperwork.

Loud music again

Then loud music can again be heard from next door and Maya intends to go and complain about it.

"You snapped at me the minute I mentioned Sioned"

“You snapped at me the minute I mentioned Sioned,” says Dai to DJ, then turns to Jason;

"All you ever do is 'chat'!"

“A ‘chat’, be damned!   What is there left to say?   All you ever do is ‘chat’.”

"Kelly and I understand each other"

Jason insists that he and Kelly understand each other, but it does not sound like that to Dai.

"It's about time you two concentrated on your partners"

“Thanks for your concern, but it’s about time you two concentrated on your partners.   I don’t need help –

"The strongest, most ambitious and prettiest girls in the village"

“you two have got the strongest, most ambitious and prettiest girls in the village – apart from Diane, of course.

"We're all punching above our weight"

“To be honest the three of us are punching above our weight here – so you, DJ, thanks for coming over, but go home and sort things out.

"Put this latest blip or hiccup behind you"

“And you, Jason, put this latest blip or hiccup behind you and move on –

"But not a word to Diane"

“and not a word to Diane about what I said just now – I don’t want her to think I’m out of her league, do I?”

"Hello – Maya, isn't it?"

Maya rings on the doorbell of the shop flat;  Mathew comes down and he introduces himself;  “How are you?” she asks,

"We're in very close proximity"

“I live in the pharmacy flat – we’re in very close proximity, which is why I popped by.   We’ve both had a long day at work,

"It's not your fault the walls are thin"

“and I know it’s not your fault these walls are thin, but . . .”

"Could we turn the music down?"

Mathew completes her sentence, “But could we turn the music down?   That’s no problem at all.”

"Enjoy the party"

She says she is sorry to have disturbed him and hopes he enjoys the party.

Jason is cooking again

Now Jason is cooking another meal when Kelly comes in through the back door;

"Quiet . . ."

he urges her to be quiet

". . . Dai's asleep"

as Dai is asleep.

"His mouth's working all right"

When she asks how he is, Jason replies, “His mouth’s working all right.

"Of course I'd be willing to cut your toenails"

“Listen, Kelly – about what I said earlier – I’m sorry.   Of course I’d be willing to cut your toenails – I don’t know why I said that.”

"You and me – we've got a way to go"

She says it was because he was telling the truth, and thinking of Dai and Diane she adds, “You and me – yeah, we’ve got a way to go until we get to that level – especially after what I did.”

He does not want her to talk about that, assuring her, “If we’re still together after everything we’ve been through, we’ve got a chance.”

They kiss

He kisses her and Kelly describes him as ‘lush’;

"Yes, I am"

he is in full agreement with this evaluation.

A knock at the door rouses Dai

Just then there is a knock at the door which awakens Dai;  “You know I said I know a health care assessor?” Kelly continues, but by this time Dai is shouting for Jason to open the door.

"OK, Dai – Kelly's coming"

As Jason is cooking, Kelly goes to the door.

"That conversation went well"

Delyth is drinking a glass of wine when Maya returns to the flat, concluding that the conversation went well;

"Isn't Mathew lovely?"

“Isn’t Mathew lovely?” she says and Delyth imagines that she fancies him.   “What’s handsome in Welsh?” she asks, and it is told that it is the (rather ugly) word ‘Golygus.’

"I thought they would've turned it off instantly"

However she can still hear the music.   Delyth regards that as strange;  “I thought they would have switched it off instantly, after that massive telling-off you gave them – I heard you through the window.   ‘How are you?   Don’t mind me – sorry to disturb you – enjoy your party’.”

"That's 'soft power'!"

Then the music does stop and Maya describes her approach as ‘soft power’.

Working on the business plan

When DJ re-enters the farmhouse, he finds Sioned and her mother compiling the business plan;  “This won’t run itself,” says Eileen, asking him where he has been.

DJ saves Sioned from falling

When Sioned stands up, she almost collapses and he has to steady her;

'I got up too quickly"

she maintains that she is fine, but just got up too quickly and is feeling a bit lightheaded.   Eileen adds that she has not eaten all day and he wants to know why this is.

"It's nine months since the miscarriage"

“Because I can’t stop thinking about the baby – it’s nine months this week since the miscarriage,” she replies, “He or she – although I’m fairly certain it was a she – would have probably been here by now.

"Just give me some time"

“I’m all right – just give me some time.”

DJ is very worried

DJ is very concerned about her

"It happens to everyone who has lost a baby"

and Eileen says that it happens to everyone who has lost a baby;  “That’s why I’m glad she has this project – something to look forward to.   Right, I have to go out, there’s something I need to do.”

DJ ponders the situation

DJ is left alone with his thoughts.

"Thank you very much"

The health care assessor is just leaving Bryntirion, with Dai politely assuring her that he will be reading her recommendations.

"It wasn't that bad, Dai"

“There we are, Dai – it wasn’t that bad.   It makes sense,” says Jason.

'No way, José, am I having a panic button!"

“Look here, Jason – no way, José, am I having a panic button by the bed –

"What's this about a raised toilet seat?"

“and what’s this about a raised toilet seat?   That just means I’ll have further to fall!   And what’s this about grab bars everywhere?   What am I – an orangutan?”

"Dai!   We're trying to help you!"

Kelly looks as if she is having difficulty keeping her temper under control and at this point shouts, “Dai!   The whole point of these recommendations is to help you!”

"Do you know what would help me?"

“Do you know what would help me?” he snarls, and begins to tear the paper into little pieces;  “There – I feel better already,” he tells her,

"They can stick their recommendations!"

“They can stick their recommendations where every orangutan keeps his nuts!”

Picking up his walking stick, he declares, “I feel much better – I really do!”

Kelly watches him go

and he leaves the house, apparently unaffected by his injured leg.

"What can I do for you, Eileen?"

Eileen pays a visit to Llwyncelyn, where Hywel asks what he can do for her.   “As little as possible,” she answers, “I’m not in a position to say more at the moment,

"I'll expect my application to be approved"

“but when an application from Penrhewl goes before the council, I’ll expect it to be approved without any opposition.”

"Whoa now, Eileen"

“Whoa, now – you can’t expect me to support an application if I don’t know what it is,” he says.   Eileen remarks that they have been friends for years and know each other well.

"We know things about each other"

“We know things about each other.”

"How long is this going on?"

He wonders how long this will be going on, as she cannot expect favours from him for ever.

"This is only the beginning"

“Oh, don’t be like that, Hywel – the truth is, this is not the end of our plans at Penrhewl – this is only the beginning.   I’ll expect more favours down the line, so you might as well get used to it.”

"What if I don't get used to it?"

He asks what if he does not get used to it – what then?   “Oh, you know what then –

"I'll do what I have to do"

“I’ll do what do I have to do – think about it.”   She walks out of the house.
