Delyth is in the bad books |
Delyth cautiously enters the pharmacy;
![]() |
"I used the French coffee you like" |
“I used the French coffee you like and frothy milk,” she says, but there is no reply from Maya, who is stocktaking.
![]() |
"How long is this going on?" |
“So how long are you going to give me the silent treatment? I’ve never known anyone who can sulk like you!”
![]() |
"You risked your life – our life together!" |
Finally there comes an answer; “I’m not sulking, D, I’m angry. You know I’m so proud of you for saving someone’s life – but you risked your life – our life together!”
![]() |
"I didn't know he had a gun" |
Delyth argues with this, pointing out she did not know he had a gun before she went in there.
![]() |
"What's Arwen going to tell the police?" |
Maya continues her rant, “When are you going to get it into your head? You can’t save everyone! Have you thought about what Arwen’s going to tell the police? It’s no coincidence her best mate had a gun – and she had one – they must be connected.
![]() |
"Has Gwern told Arwen what you did with gun number one?" |
“And has Gwern told Arwen what you did with gun number one? What if she tells the police?”
![]() |
"She wouldn't want to get Gwern into any more trouble" |
Delyth is confident that she would not do that; “She wouldn’t want to get Gwern into any more trouble.”
In normal circumstances, Maya is sure that she is right; “But what if she throws you under a bus to save her own skin? You could end up in jail.” Delyth heads towards the door;
![]() |
"We need to sort this, D!" |
“Where are you going now? We need to sort this,” says Maya,
![]() |
"I need some fresh air" |
but the DS needs some fresh air.
![]() |
Delyth sits on a bench . . . |
Outside she sits down on the bench at the end of the alley
![]() |
. . . and is noticed by Siôn |
and Siôn, who is passing the other end, notices her. “I’ve been looking for you,” he says,
![]() |
"You saved his life!" |
“I don’t know how I can ever thank you – you saved his life! His children, Lleucu and Twm, want to thank you as well.
![]() |
"I honestly thought he was getting better" |
“I honestly thought that he was getting better – he had moved back to the village and was helping with the auction.”
![]() |
"Could you get Cai's things?" |
Delyth agrees that it is a cruel illness and advises that there are some of Cai’s personal things left in his office; “Do you think you or someone else could go and get them?”
![]() |
"I'm going to suggest you get a medal!" |
Siôn will do that, and once again expresses his gratitude; “I’m going to suggest that they give you a medal – I’m not sure if they still do that sort of thing – you’re a heroine!”
![]() |
This is rather embarrassing |
Delyth is rather embarrassed by all this,
![]() |
Siôn firmly shakes her hand |
as he firmly shakes her hand before continuing on his way.

"I don't want to play sudoku all day" |
DJ comes into the farmhouse, bringing Sioned with him, as she protests, “I don’t want to sit in a chair all day, playing sudoku.” He tries to reason with her that there is a middle ground.
![]() |
"You won't let me do anything" |
“You won’t let me do anything in the deli or on the farm,” she moans
![]() |
"She was moving bales" |
and DJ explains to Eileen that she was moving bales.
![]() |
"No – just one bale!" |
Sioned objects to this, “No, I only moved one bale!” Her mother knows that she wants to get better,
![]() |
"Overdoing it like this won't help" |
but overdoing it like this will not help. “Why are you still here?” Sioned demands, “Don’t say you’ve stayed to keep an eye on me! What’s wrong with you both?
![]() |
"I'll die of boredom!" |
“I’ll die of boredom before I die of anything else.”
DJ suggests that they could go out for a walk,
![]() |
"I'm going to practise my mindfulness" |
but Sioned snarls, “I'm going to have a bath and practise my mindfulness – I obviously need it!”
![]() |
"I can't just stand there and watch" |
DJ tells Eileen, “I can’t just stand there and watch her moving bales – now we’ve got the farm and the deli, I thought she’d have something to look forward to.” Eileen appreciates that sitting there all day is not going to occupy her mind, but he does not want her to push herself too much.
![]() |
"There is a middle ground" |
“As you said, there is a middle ground, isn’t there?” Eileen replies,
![]() |
"We'll sort this, all right?" |
“I’m going out for a couple of hours – but we’ll sort this, all right?”
![]() |
Siôn is at the school . . . |
Siôn enters Cai’s office and looks around anxiously;

. . . where he looks at Cai's belongings |

![]() |
Dani has been persuaded to visit Gwern |

![]() |
Dani is apprehensive |

![]() |
Gwern is about to leave again |
Then the inmates are brought in; Gwern does not look at all happy at seeing Dani and appears to be about to leave the room,

"Gwern – wait" |
but Britt begs him to wait.
![]() |
He sits down |
He sits down opposite them,
![]() |
"Give Dani a chance" |
and when Britt asks him to give Dani a chance, he answers, “I’m not talking to her.” Britt has brought him a can of 7-Up and some crisps. He says that he is all right,
![]() |
"I'm so pleased to see you" |
and Dani, who is in tears, is so pleased to see him.
![]() |
"It's your fault I'm in here!" |
He snaps at her, “Don’t cry – it’s your fault I’m in here!” and she is stunned.
![]() |
The buttercups are in full bloom |
Siôn is sitting on a rural bench in the sunshine
![]() |
"Sorry I took so long, Siôn" |
when Ffion approaches; “Sorry I took so long – I had a meeting after school,” she says.
![]() |
He has brought her a coffee |
Siôn hands her a coffee and remarks that he is in no hurry to go home.
![]() |
"We need some time to process everything" |
“No – neither am I,” Ffion agrees, “We need some time to process everything, don’t we? Thanks for clearing everything from his office – I couldn’t face it. I still can’t understand why the school was the last thing he wanted to see.”
![]() |
"That was not the real Cai" |
Siôn maintains that the Cai who made that decision was not the real Cai. She wonders what he is going to do with the letters; he will probably throw them away, as it would not be fair to Cai if he read them.
![]() |
"We can take the photos to the hospital" |
Ffion proposes that they can take the photos to the hospital when they go to see him.
![]() |
"How didn't we see it?" |
“How didn’t we see it? He’s been saying for weeks that he was suffering from anxiety,” she wonders.
![]() |
"And I thought he was getting better" |
Siôn adds that there was the self-harming as well; “And I thought he was getting better,” she goes on.
![]() |
"He made sure we were too busy to realise" |
Siôn believes that he threw himself into that auction so that they were too busy to realise what was going on.
![]() |
"When did he decide?" |
“When did he decide?” asks Ffion, “After seeing the gun? Or had he been planning this for a while?”
![]() |
"DJ has taken Huwi to move the cows . . ." |
Sioned is sitting on the sofa looking at her laptop when her mother returns to the farm and complains, “DJ has taken Huwi to move the cows –
![]() |
". . . it's much too dangerous for me, of course" |
“it’s much too dangerous for me, of course – but not for Huwi! Where have you been? You’ve been away for hours.”
![]() |
"I've put the top field in your name" |
Eileen has been sorting out a contract; “You know the top field, where the sheds are – I’ve put it in your name. I know you’ll own half of this place some day, but that’s a long way off.”
![]() |
"What am I supposed to do with a field?" |
Sioned wonders what she is supposed to do with a field,
![]() |
"You can do what you want" |
and is informed, “You can do what you want – keep horses, a campsite, a shop, café.”
![]() |
"That will need planning permission" |
Sioned protests that she will need planning permission for all that,
![]() |
"That will keep you busy" |
and her mother points out that it will keep her busy, which is what she wants.
![]() |
"What I need is to leave the house without permission" |
“What I want is to leave the house without needing permission,” Sioned growls.
![]() |
"This is exactly what you need" |
“Listen, love, I know you’re frustrated, but I think a project like this is exactly what you need at the moment. Now is the ideal time to do the research and planning.” Sioned checks that she can do exactly what she wants with it,
![]() |
"No lifting bales, all right?" |
and is told, “It’s your field – but no lifting bales, all right?”
![]() |
"You're unlikely to get bail" |
Dani tells Gwern, “Even if I said I was happy for you to come home, you’re unlikely to get bail.”
He demands why she is not happy for him to come; “Because you need help – and I can’t give you that help,” she explains.
![]() |
"Would you have done the same to Seren or Gabriel?" |
“Would you have done the same to Seren or Gabriel?” he asks and she immediately says that she would, adding that once he comes out of the place,
![]() |
"We're your family, Gwern" |
she wants him at home, because they are his family. All this time Britt has been sitting with her head in her hands.
![]() |
"Don't think I've turned my back on you" |
“Gwern, please don’t think I’ve turned my back on you, because I haven’t,” Dani pleads, “There’s nothing you can do that will stop loving you.
![]() |
"Your plea hearing is coming up" |
“Your plea hearing is coming up soon, isn’t it? Which way are you going to plead?”
![]() |
"You still think I'm guilty, don't you?" |
Gwern rages, “You still think I’m guilty, don’t you? I must be, then.”
![]() |
"I just want you to tell the truth" |
Dani insists she just wants him to tell the truth; she knows that it is scary, but he has a good solicitor.
![]() |
"Just shut up!" |
He shouts at her, “Just shut up!”
![]() |
"Perhaps you don't want to give me an answer . . .' |
As they sit in the sunshine, Siôn continues, “Listen, I know this is a matter for the police, and perhaps you don’t want to give me an answer, but why . . .”
![]() |
"Why did she have a gun under her bed" |
Ffion has anticipated his question; “Why did she have a gun under her bed? She says it’s something to do with Garry – Gwern found it, but he didn’t want to take it to the police. She was worried about what he was going to do with it, so she took it in case he did something stupid.”
![]() |
"Like set a house on fire?" |
“Like set a house on fire?” Siôn suggests, and Ffion cannot understand why she did not take it to the police – or even tell her mother about it. “Perhaps the important thing to her was that Gwern didn’t have it,” imagines Siôn.
![]() |
"Jinx has taken her shopping" |
The police have spoken to Arwen first thing this morning before she went to school; “Now Jinx has taken her on a shopping trip this evening to Swansea to try and cheer her up. Poor thing – what a day yesterday was.”
![]() |
"Dani's really worried about you" |
“I know it’s not what you want to hear,” admits Britt, “But Dani’s really worried about you – but forget about her now – what’s important is you. Have you started your therapy sessions?”
![]() |
Gwern nods |
He nods his head and she continues that she has spoken to his father, who is doing all right.
![]() |
"Does he believe me" |
“Does he believe me?” asks Gwern. Britt replies that he does – and so does she;
![]() |
"You would never hurt anyone intentionally" |
they know that he would never hurt anyone intentionally.
![]() |
"I don't want to leave things like this" |
Dani has been sitting there silently, but suddenly interjects, “Gwern, I don’t want to leave things like this.” Britt considers that it would be better if Dani went back to the car, but she begs, “Gwern, please!”
![]() |
"I never want to see you again!" |
His scathing reply is, “I never want to see you again! I hate you and I’m never going to forgive you!
![]() |
"Go and leave me alone!" |
“Go and leave me alone!” He gets up from his chair and leaves the visiting room.
![]() |
"Answer your flippin' phone, will you?" |
Maya is standing in the doorway of the pharmacy, attempting to contact Delyth; “Answer your flippin’ phone, will you? Seriously, I’m worried about you – I know I was being doom and gloom and all that,
![]() |
"Just call me back, yeah?" |
“but just call me back, yeah? I love you.”
![]() |
"I must be a terrible mother" |
“I hate to wallow in self-pity, but I must be a terrible mother, Siôn,” Ffion groans, “As a head teacher, I’ve got definite guidelines on how to treat pupils – about speaking openly and the importance of mental health – and Arwen hides everything from me!”
![]() |
"It's very different with your own children" |
Siôn knows that it is very different with your own children.
![]() |
"And then there's the guilt" |
“And then there’s the guilt – every mother’s middle name – because that’s what I feel. Every time Arwen does something wrong, I feel like it’s my fault.”
![]() |
"At least you're questioning yourself" |
Siôn replies, “At least you’re questioning yourself – not many people do that.”
![]() |
"Cigarettes would be bad enough – but a gun?" |
“Not many people find out their 12-year-old daughter’s been hiding a gun under the bed!” Ffion exclaims, “A gun – cigarettes would be bad enough – but a gun?”
![]() |
"You understand why she did it" |
Siôn points out that she understands why Arwen did it.
“Yes, I understand the reasoning, but I still don’t understand why she can’t talk to me.
![]() |
"I've gone wrong somewhere" |
“I don’t care what anyone says, I’ve gone wrong somewhere – and I have no idea what to do about it.”
![]() |
"Someone, somewhere, has let them all down" |
Britt and Dani arrive back in the village; “It was so sad, seeing all those boys in there – someone, somewhere, has let all of them down.”
![]() |
"So it's my fault?" |
Dani thinks that it is obvious she is being blamed, but Britt denies this.
![]() |
"There was a lot of sadness there" |
“There was a lot of sadness there – you could see it in their eyes, the way they carried themselves.
![]() |
"I can't let him come back into the children's lives" |
“I know you wanted me to change my mind and say I was happy for him to come back,” Dani replies, “But, after seeing him today, I can’t let him come back into the children’s lives, until he tells the truth and gets help.
![]() |
"You're doing what you think is best" |
Britt does not agree with what she did, and would not have done it herself, “But I do accept that you’re doing what you think is best for him. So now, about Gwern – are you still going to come and see him next week?”
![]() |
"I have to wait until he's ready to see me" |
“No,” is Dani’s emphatic answer, “I will write to him every week, say I love him, that I’m here for him – but I have to wait until he’s ready to see me.”
![]() |
"Thanks for trying, Dani" |
Britt thanks her for trying, realising that they both want the same thing, but their methods are different.
![]() |
Dani leave the car |
Dani thanks her for the lift and gets out of the car.
![]() |
Maya is brooding |

![]() |
She opens her laptop . . . |
then opens her laptop
![]() |
. . . just as Delyth comes in |
just as Delyth comes in through the door and apologises to her.
![]() |
"Where the hell have you been?" |
“Where the hell have you been?” Maya demands, “You told me you were going to work!”
Delyth asks her not to be annoyed, but Maya had been told that she was not feeling well after yesterday. “That’s perfectly understandable – but why didn’t you tell me?
![]() |
"That Emily must have thought I was a real divvy!" |
“That Emily must have thought I was a right divvy not to know you weren’t well.”
![]() |
"I went to see Simon" |
Delyth confesses that she went to see Simon;
![]() |
"We've talked about this" |
“We’ve talked about this, you know?” says Maya.
“I’ve been missing him so much – what with talking to Cai about him, it just brought it back. I just sat in the car, close to the house –
![]() |
"It was good to see him so happy" |
“but it was good to see him so happy.”
![]() |
"You crazy human being" |
Maya gives her a hug and describes her as, “You crazy human being – I love you so much.”
![]() |
Siôn feels guilty about the way Cai left Y Felin |
Still out under the tree, Siôn feels guilty about the way Cai left Y Felin; “I can’t help thinking that’s when he got worse.”
![]() |
"That was not your fault, Siôn" |
Ffion assures him that it was not his fault, as Iolo could not cope, and there was Greta as well. “I should have done more to stop him,” Siôn insists,
![]() |
"I wanted him to leave" |
“But the truth is, Ffion, I didn’t want to stop him – I wanted Cai and all his problems to leave the house. I can be so selfish – sometimes I just want a quiet life.”
![]() |
"Join the club!" |
“Join the club!” she laughs,
![]() |
"It was difficult to cope with Iolo and Cai" |
and he admits that he found it difficult to cope with Iolo and Cai, wondering if that is selfish.
![]() |
Ffion clasps his hand |
“No, of course not,” she replies, taking his hand.
![]() |
"You're one of the strongest people I know" |
“Siôn, look, you’re one of the strongest and most sorted people I know – I can’t tell you how many times I’ve depended on you. You’ve been so good to me and Arwen – don’t put yourself down.”
![]() |
Siôn – what are you playing at? |
He says that applies to her as well, then very unexpectedly, at least to the viewers, he leans forward and kisses her.
![]() |
Amidst the buttercups |
She does not appear to put up any resistance.
