Hywel is doing a spot of ironing

Hywel is doing some ironing when Gaynor picks up the post;  he tells her that Esther needs to look her best for Sunday school, but she points out that it is not Sunday.

"Jinx wants to meet the class beforehand"

“Jinx wants to meet the class beforehand – fair play, if you’re going to do something, do it properly,” he says, “Don’t you think it will benefit her?”   Gaynor suspects that it will probably be a bit boring.

The post concerns Gaynor

She opens one of the items of post and looks concerned;

"They've released Izzy's body"

“The medical school – they’ve released Izzy’s body.”

Anita is thinking about some decorating

Anita is back in number 10, wondering which colour the walls should be painted;  there is a knock at the door which startles her.   It is Eifion, who begins, “I saw you carrying those paint samples, and I thought . . .”

"Not going to help me, are you?"

She stops him there, assuming that he is going to help her do with the painting, which is unlike him.

"Could I rent this place?"

However, he wants to ask her a question;  “Could I rent this place?”   This comes as a complete shock to her as he continues, “Rhys said you’re not completely happy here – I know the circumstances are strange.”

Anita ponders for a moment

She wholeheartedly agrees with that, and thinks that she might rent the place to him.

"What if we said £600 a month?"

“What if we said £600 a month?” and Eifion is rather discouraged as he was not expecting it to be that much,

"Give me a while to think about it"

and asks to be allowed to think about it for a while.

"I assume you received the same letter as me"

In the shop, Colin is drinking tea and looking worried when Gaynor comes in;  “I assume you received the same letter as me this morning?” she says, “It’s strange to have a funeral after all this time,” and he appreciates that it will bring it all up again.

"How are we going to do this?"

“Right, how are we going to do this?” she continues,

"Private – just the two of us"

and Colin suggests a small funeral, private, just the two of them – plus Britt and Hywel.

"Should I invite Mathew?"

She wonders whether Mathew should also be invited,

"He seems to have moved on now"

but Colin points out that he seems to have moved on.

"Would you ask him?"

“We should invite him out of courtesy,” she maintains, “Sorry to do this – I know you’ve got a lot on your plate, but would you ask him?   I really think that’s what Izzy would want.”

Mathew is humping bags of cement . . .

Mathew is loading bags of cement into the back of the van

. . . when Tegwen approaches

when Tegwen approaches, and the atmosphere between them is rather tense.

"How was Ken?"

“How’s Ken?” Mathew asks, “Was he all right about the living arrangements?   I’m sure we can make it work.”

"Mathew – a word, in private"

Then Colin joins them, and would like a word in private;

"I don't hide anything from Tegwen"

Mathew immediately replies that he does not hide anything from Tegwen,

"They're releasing Izzy's body"

so Colin says, “Well, they’re releasing Izzy’s body,”

"I'd better be going"

and Tegwen thinks that she had better leave them,

Mathew wants her to stay

but is prevented from doing so by Mathew.

"A strictly private service"

“We’ll have to book a slot at the crematorium, but we’re planning a very small service – strictly private,” says Colin.

Mathew understands and will want to be there;

"I'd like Tegwen to be there"

“And I’d like Tegwen to be there, if it’s all right with you and Gaynor.”   Colin is rather hesitant, but agrees,

"I'll have to check with Gaynor"

adding that he will have to check with Gaynor.

“I’m sure Izzy would want me to have some support,” Mathew continues,

Tegwen looks uncomfortable

and Tegwen is looking rather uncomfortable.   When Colin has gone,

"Is that all right with you?"

Mathew asks if that is all right with her,

Tegwen puts on a brave face

and she nods her head.

"A little place of our own"

Eifion is trying to convince Iolo of the merits of renting a house, but he does not appear to be very eager;  “It will be great – a little place of our own, sharing the cost between us – I thought you would be a bit more excited than this.”

"Isn't it a bit early?"

Iolo thinks that it is a bit early;  “Look, I know you’re excited and all of this is new . . .”   Eifion interrupts to say that they never get a chance to be together, just the two of them, and he must want a bit of privacy sometimes.   “It’s the price – rent is expensive, isn’t it?” complains Iolo.

"Come on – it will be fun!"

“Not between two of us – for an entire house?   Come on – it will be fun!” Eifion encourages him, “Oh, I see, you’ve lived with someone –

"Been there, done that, got the T-shirt!"

“been there, done that, got the T-shirt!”   Iolo insists it is not just that, but the rent,

"I'll see if I can do something about that"

so Eifion will see if he can do something about it and leaves the house.

Eileen does not look happy

Eileen is looking very sour-faced when Britt arrives at Penrhewl,

"This is not a good time, Britt!"

suggesting, “I wanted to discuss some of my pudding ideas for our business.”   Eileen points out that she did not sleep much last night and Huwi is off school, so this is not a good time.

Undeterred, Britt continues, “Puddings full of longing!”

"You can't eat 'longing'!"

and it is pointed out that you cannot eat ‘longing’.   “Everybody will love eating their own school puddings – sponge with pink custard, jam roly-poly.”

"Why are you pitching ideas all of a sudden?"

“Why are you pitching ideas all of a sudden?   And silly ones, at that?” Eileen demands, but she is warned not to speak to her business partner like that.

"I've bought Sioned's share of Cae Glas!"

“Don’t pretend that you don’t know – I’ve bought Sioned’s share of Cae Glas,” Britt announces, “Hasn’t she told you?”

"She would do anything to upset me!"

“No, she hasn’t – but I do know that Sioned would do anything to upset me!” Eileen snarls in reply, “Selling her share to you is one way guaranteed to destroy the company!”

"I'm a hard worker Eileen!"

Britt protests that she is a hard worker;  this is dismissed with, “Britt, you haven’t got a clue!   And your ideas do not fit with the Cae Glas ethos.”

"Now I own 50% of the company"

As Britt maintains that her ideas are worth as much as Eileen’s, now that she owns 50% of the business.

"You don't own 50%"

At this point Sioned walks in and points out that Britt does not actually own 50%.”

"Why did you sell to Britt?"

Her mother rages, “Why did you sell to Britt?”   Sioned hardly has a chance to protest that she did not, before Eileen launches into a tirade, “But it is a relief to get rid of you from the company!”

"Do you think I'd be stupid enough to sell all my half?"

Sioned makes it quite clear, “You haven’t – do you think I’d be stupid enough to sell all of my half to Britt?

"She bought 10% of my share . . ."

“She bought 10% of my share, which equals 5% of the whole company.”

". . . so you haven't got rid of me yet!"

She turns to her mother and adds, “So you haven’t got rid of me yet!”   With that, she leaves the farm again, and Britt looks absolutely furious.

Tegwen is letting her coffee get cold

In the shop flat, Mathew warns Tegwen that her drink will be closer to iced coffee by the time she drinks it,

"You find it odd, don't you?"

and she thinks that it is time she went to Brynawelon.   “You find it odd, don’t you, that I want you at the funeral?”   She answers that it is a bit weird, going to his ex’s funeral, especially has that they have only just started seeing each other.

"Forget about it"

He snaps, “Fine – if you don’t want to be there, forget about it.   If supporting me is too weird for you, don’t worry.”

"I hope you'll be in a better mood by then"

She does not appreciate his attitude and will come back after her shift, hoping that he will be in a better mood by then.

Photos of Izzy

As Gaynor and Colin go through photos of Izzy,

Gaynor receives a text

Gaynor receives a text message;  “Confirmation from the crematorium,”

"We shall have to think about hymns"

and they will have to think about hymns.   “Doing this together will do us good in the end, I’m sure,” says Gaynor, without conviction,

"Did you have a word with Mathew?"

“Did you have a word with Mathew?”

“Yes, he’s very eager to come – but there is one thing –

"He wants to bring his new girlfriend with him"

“he wants to bring his new girlfriend, Tegwen, with him.   It was a bit awkward, to be honest, because she was there at the time.   I said I’d have a chat with you.”

Gaynor has no objection to that

Gaynor cannot see anything wrong with that, but Colin obviously does not agree;

"Shall we stick with this photo?"

“Shall we stick with this photo?” she asks.

There is a note for Iolo . . .

Iolo comes downstairs in Y Felin and sees a note from his father for him on the table;

. . . a shopping list from his father

‘Need more olive oil and spring onions for dinner.’   He picks up his jacket and walks out of the house.

"Elephant breath"

Eifion is back at number 10, where Anita asks which colour he prefers;  he points to one, and she says, “Elephant Breath.”

"Sorry, I had a burger for lunch!"

Yes, sorry,” replies Eifion, “I had a burger for lunch!”   She emphasises that is what the colour is called, and he protests that he was joking.

"I'm glad you can laugh"

“I’m glad you can laugh here, because I’ve found it difficult,” she moans.

"That should be reflected in the price"

He appreciates that it is not easy, after what happened, and thinks that it should be reflected in the price.

"Would you halve it to £300?"

He remarks that he has problems sleeping himself, and wonders if she would halve the rent to £300 a month.

"You are joking?"

“You are joking?” she exclaims, but he argues that he is doing her a favour, predicting that it will not be easy to get someone in the house after what happened.

"You won't get a tenant very easily"

“You’re lucky I’m willing to pay any rent at all,” he adds, but Anita is having none of that.   “It’s true – you won’t get a tenant in here very easily,” he insists.

"You might be right there"

She thinks that he might be right there, and thanks him for giving her the idea;

"So you'll halve it, then?"

“I don’t want a tenant at all – and I’m tired of being a landlady –

"I'm going to put the place up for sale"

“I’m going to put the place up for sale!”

Britt looks at Colin's letter . . .

At number 21, Britt is looking at Colin’s letter from the medical school

. . . and he comes in

when he comes into the house;  “I’m thinking of putting this on the funeral pamphlet,” he tells her,

He shows her the favoured photo

displaying the photo of Izzy, “Look at her eyes – so mischievous – full of life.”

Colin does not want any more arguments

“The last thing I want to do now is to go on and on about all this,” he goes on, and Britt confirms that she is here for him.   She hated it when he did not come to bed last night

"I've made such a mess of things, Col . . ."

and is sorry for making such a mess of things and upsetting him, especially with this happening now.

“Well, I’ve just come back from Penrhewl

". . . I've only bought 10% of Sioned's share"

“and I’ve been such a fool – I’ve only bought 10% of Sioned’s share in Cae Glas for £10,000 – I’m so sorry, Col!   Are you angry?”

"What's the point?"

Surprisingly, he replies, “I should be, perhaps, but what for?   It’s not your fault – it’s only money in the end.

"Nobody knows what's round the corner"

“Nobody knows what’s round the corner – making the most of the people closest to us is what’s truly important.”

Britt hugs Colin

“You, Colin Evans . . .” she begins, and then rushes forward to hug him.

"It's silly that I'm living like a teenager with Dad"

As they sit either side of the table in Y Felin, Iolo broaches the subject of Anita’s house;  “You’re right – it’s silly that I’m living like a teenager with Dad – he gets on my nerves.   And like you said, with the both of us, I’m sure we could manage.”

"Anita doesn't want to rent the house out"

Eifion looks particularly miserable and reveals, “Anita doesn’t want to rent the house out – I didn’t do anything – she just decided.   I don’t know why – perhaps Griffiths wants commission from the sale.”

"With that house's history?"

“And she thinks she’ll find a buyer with that house’s history?” demands Iolo, and Eifion lies that he did not mention history.

"I'll have to live like a teenager a bit longer"

“There we are, then, I’ll have to live like a teenager a bit longer,” Iolo groans.

"We'll find somewhere soon"

Eifion is sure that they will find somewhere soon;

"Affordable homes are everywhere!"

“Yeah – affordable homes are everywhere!” sneers Iolo.

"Mia and Gwen were there!"

Gaynor is looking at the laptop when Esther comes back, advising that Mia and Gwen were there;

"Uncle Jinx has vegan brownies"

“Uncle Jinx has vegan brownies,” she adds.   Hywel says that it was like feeding the 5,000, but Esther really enjoyed it.

When Esther goes upstairs to get changed,

"Changed your mind about Sunday school, then?"

Hywel wonders if Gaynor has changed her mind about Sunday school;  “If it makes her smile like that,” she replies,

"I think I feel better than Colin at the moment"

and she thinks that she is feeling better than Colin at the moment.

She has almost finished organising the funeral – they just need something when they walk in and when they leave;

"That always brings a lump to the throat"

“Colin wants ‘Anfonaf Angel’ [I send an angel].   Hywel agrees that always brings a lump to the throat.

"I'm sorry, Tegwen"

Tegwen returns to the shop flat and Matthew apologises.   She insists that she was not clear with her feelings;

"I want to be there to support you"

“Yes, I had a shock, but I want to be there to support you.”

Then Colin turns up

Before she has a chance to say anything else, Colin comes in, and is pleased that she is there.

"We want both of you to be there"

“I had a word with Gaynor, and we want you there, so I’ll send the details of the funeral to you – to both of you.”

"We won't be there, Colin"

Mathew thanks him, but adds that there is no need;  “We won’t be there – thank you for the invitation, but I can’t come.”

This comes as a surprise

Both Colin and Tegwen are surprised by this sudden change of heart.

"I hope you understand"

“I hope you understand,” he goes on, and Colin leaves, looking puzzled.

"Is that because of me?"

“Is that because of me?” Tegwen asks, and Mathew says that she was right earlier;  they have only just started seeing each other,

"I think we already have something special"

but he thinks they already have something special.

"But Izzy . . ."

“But Izzy – don’t you want to . . .” says Tegwen.

"I've said ta-ra to Izzy in my own way"

“I’ve said ta-ra to Izzy in my own way – I’m happy with that,” he tells her, and she wonders how he can be so . . .

"How can you share your deepest feeling with me?"

how he can share his deepest feelings with her – and that she cannot give everything.

Mathew insists that she does give enough – more than enough;

"I'm really starting to fall for you, Tegwen"

“And I’m really starting to fall for you, Tegwen.”

"I don't deserve it"

She insists that she does not deserve it, not after this week,

"Forget who Ken's father is!"

but he is adamant, “Forget this week, forget who Ken’s father is.   There is plenty of time for that – Tegwen, honest – there’s nothing you can say now to change my mind.   I’m so glad I met you – and I’m looking forward to the future together.”

They hug each other

They hug each other, and he asks, “Are you ready for some food?

"I'll bring it over now"

“I’ll bring it over now.”

Tegwen still has some misgivings

Tegwen still looks anxious.
