The van is now at the back of APD

Next morning Anita, in the campervan, (which has mysteriously moved from its position when she climbed into it) 

Anita has had a disturbed night 

is awoken by Jason and Tyler talking outside;  

"I'm glad this stealing is in the Deri"

“Well, I’m glad this stealing is going on in the Deri, not here!” says Jason, “I would get the blame again.”   Tyler assures him that everyone knows it is Eifion, but he is advised to let the police sort these things out, rather than accusing someone without evidence.

"I don't need evidence – it's obvious!"

“I don’t need evidence – it’s obvious!” Tyler insists, 

"This van needs a wash"

and Jason notices that the van needs washing, 

Anita does not like the sound of that . . .

which rather disturbs Anita, who is inside.   “Well, I’m not doing anything until I’ve had a cup of tea –what do you say, Tyler?” he goes on, “Kettle on!”

. . . so she creeps out of the back door . . .

When they have gone into APD, Anita cautiously opens the back door 

. . . and scurries round the corner

and hurries round the corner to number 10, hoping that no-one sees her.

"Ffion has been keeping me busy"

Cai comes downstairs at Y Felin, smartly dressed in his suit, and is asked by Siôn if he is ready for his first lesson.  “Not really – Ffion has been keeping me busy with my work as deputy head,” he answers, “Listen, I’ve decided to pay for the books myself – I don’t want to see you lose money,” 

"Oh, I appreciate that, Cai"

and Siôn is very grateful for this.

“I hope Ffion appreciates what I’m doing,” Cai continues, and, 

"Could you do something about the price?"

after picking up his briefcase, he adds, “It would be great if you could do something about the price, because it’s coming out of my own pocket.”

"Y Winllan has to make a profit"

Siôn points out that Y Winllan has to make a profit, 

"A big thank you in the parents' newsletter?"

and Cai suggests, “What if I make sure Y Winllan gets a big thank you in the parents’ newsletter?   It would be great publicity.”   

"£300 off – if there's an advert"

Siôn agrees to knock £300 off the price, on the condition that there is an advertisement, and now Cai just has to find the rest.

Siôn further notifies him that the boxes are in the car, 

"I don't want to carry boxes in this suit"

but Cai does not want to carry boxes in his suit.   “They have to go today – the car is being serviced this afternoon,” Siôn insists, and is asked if he can help move them.   

Siôn will make him wait for any assistance

He does not appear to be in any hurry to do so.

Esther has lost her appetite

Esther is sitting in front of a pile of pancakes on the breakfast table and tells Gaynor that she does not want them.   

"I had no right to talk to you like that"

Gaynor apologises, “Listen, I can’t tell you how much I regret losing my temper over the candle.   I had no right to talk to you like that – I’m so sorry.”

Esther does not reply, and Gaynor continues, “The thing is – adults aren’t perfect, and I still miss Izzy, a lot.”   

Hywel is eavesdropping

Hywel comes downstairs and it listens to this conversation.   

"I'm just not very good company at the moment"

“Everyone’s going back to school this week – everyone apart from me.   That’s not an excuse, but perhaps it might be a reason,” says Gaynor, “I’m just not very good company at the moment, Esther – 

Esther appears to be unmoved

“I’m so sorry.”

"I thought we could go away for a couple of days"

Hywel comes in and tells Esther, “I’ve being so busy with the council, I haven’t seen much of you, so I thought we could go away to a cottage for a couple of days.   We need a break.”

"I'll organise it"

Gaynor volunteers to organise it, and Esther is all in favour of this;  Hywel helps himself to one of the pancakes.

Ffion is waiting for Cai

Cai manhandles one of the boxes out of his car boot at the school when he is accosted by Ffion;  “I’ve been waiting for you – there’s a broken window in laboratory three,” she says, “What’s in the box?”

"The books from Siôn"

He replies that there are three more in the car;  “The books from Siôn.”   

"We've already discussed this"

She reminds him that they have already discussed this, 

"We need to thank Y Winllan in the newsletter"

and he points out, “I’m going to pay for them myself as a gift to the school – we got a good price, and we need to thank Y Winllan in the newsletter.”

She makes it very clear that they cannot favour one business over another;  “Especially when the owner is related to the deputy – use some common sense, please, or you’re no good to me!”   He stresses that now he will have to pay another £300.   

"Well, that's your problem!"

“Well, that’s your problem!” she comments.

Anita is late for work

Anita arrives at APD and Mathew assumes that she has overslept;  “You look better – whatever you’re doing, keep at it – because it’s obviously working!”   

She replaces the keys on their hook . . .

She surreptitiously hangs the keys of the campervan on the hook behind the counter.

. . . and does not look too good . . .

As soon as he goes out of the door, Anita makes a phone call;  

. . . hence her request for sleeping tablets

“Is it possible to have a word with the doctor, please?   I want to discuss sleeping tablets.”

The books reach Cai's classroom

Cai has finally transported all the boxes to his classroom 

He takes off his jacket

and takes off his jacket;  

"Hello, Uncle Cai!"

Arwen comes in, accompanied by Gwern.   “Hello, Uncle Cai!” she addresses him, but he thinks she ought to call him Mr Rossiter at school.   

"Your classroom is boring"

“Your classroom is boring,” she points out, and he knows that he needs some time to put things up.

"You've had two days to sort it out"

She says that he has had two days to sort it out, and he growls, “You remind me of your mother.”   Arwen volunteers that they could help, and he asks them to distribute the books.   

"I'd better get back to class"

Gwern thinks that he ought get back to his class, but Arwen stresses that Mr Rossiter needs help, and they are only doing quizzes and crosswords today anyway.

"Your mother, The Dragon, will be pleased"

“Excellent – and your mother, The Dragon, will be pleased!” Cai predicts, but Arwen has a plan, maintaining that the girls toilets are full and she is desperate.   

"Can I borrow the key to the staff toilets?"

She asks if she can borrow the key to the staff toilets, advising him that it is usually on the desk somewhere.   

There it is, under that pencil case

He picks up a pencil case, and there is the key, which Arwen takes.

He receives a text from Ffion . . . 

While Cai is distracted with a text from Ffion, thanking him for dealing with the window, 

. . . and, meanwhile his jacket is removed

Arwen also picks up his jacket, 

He thinks that Ffion may be 'coming round'

before leaving the room.

"What do you think of this, Hywel?"

Gaynor has been doing some online research, and asks Hywel, “What do you think of this?   A cabin in Hafodd Werdd – climbing, surfing, swimming – my treat!”   

"It's only for two people"

Looking at the laptop, he points out that the holidays are for two people, 

"I don't think Esther would want me to come"

and she agrees, “Yes, you and Esther.   You wanted to spend time with Esther – and I don’t think she would want me to come.”

"Well, change it, then"

Hywel tells her to change it, but apparently there was only one cabin for two left, and when he is quite willing to book something else, 

"I won't get my money back"

she argues that she will not get the money back.   Then she adopts a different approach;  

"I just want some time to myself"

“The truth is, I really didn’t want to go away this weekend – I just want some time to myself.   You go with Esther – you’ll have fun, and it will be good for you.”

"Got an excuse for everything, haven't you?"

“You’ve got an excuse for everything, haven’t you?   You’re determined to be on your own over the weekend,” he says.

“You think I’m going to . . . of course, you’re right – 

"The band of the Welsh Guards are coming over for the weekend!"

“I’ve organised for the band of the Welsh Guards to come over for the weekend!” she snaps, walking out of the room and going upstairs.

Mathew finds Ken in the flat

Mathew comes back to the shop flat and finds Ken there;  “Can we watch ‘Invictus’ while Mam is working?” he asks, 

"I'm depressed – school starts tomorrow"

“It might cheer me up because I’m depressed – school starts tomorrow.”   Mathew maintains that he is lucky, as he has an extra day off, and everyone else in Cwmderi is back at school today.

"Mathew will be fine – I'll look after him!"

Tegwen comes in and asks her son if he will be all right while she is at work;  “Mathew will be fine, Mam – I’ll look after him!” is the reply.   

"Will you go and fetch my purse?"

She asks if he will go and fetch her purse;  

"I'm not your little servant!"

“Excuse me – I’m not your little servant!” he answers, 

There are two season tickets 

but when he goes to get it, he finds inside two season tickets to the rugby.

“That’s why you’ve been doing extra jobs over the summer,” he realises, and he has told his pocket money has gone towards them as well.   Mathew comments that he is not so depressed, 

"I'll never be naughty again, I promise"

and he promises never to be naughty again.   Mathew is taking him to rugby practice, 

"I'm not sure if there's any swearing in it"

and mentions that Ken wants to watch ‘Invictus’, but he is not sure if there is any swearing in it.

“He’s heard worse at Mam-gu’s” says Tegwen, and when she has gone, 

"I'll teach you some of Mam-gu's rude words"

Ken offers to teach Mathew some of Mam-gu’s rude words, if he wants.

Cai is at work . . . 

As Cai is putting posters up on the display boards, 

. . . when he is summoned by the caretaker

he is called urgently by someone who must be the caretaker;  

He is shown the problem . . .

he is led to the staff toilets 

. . . water on the toilet floor

where he finds water on the floor, 

His jacket is down the toilet . . .

and in one of the cubicles his jacket has been stuffed down the toilet, 

. . . and one of his books

together with one of his books.

"Some of us need to learn how to catch the ball"

In the Deri, Geraint serves Tegwen with her drink and Tyler asks if they have started rugby training yet.   “Yes, thank goodness,” she replies, “Some of us need to learn how to catch the ball.”

"She's trying to say I drop the ball sometimes"

Sioned is sitting nearby and remarks, “What Tegwen’s trying to say is that I drop the ball sometimes,” and Tegwen maintains that they are too worried about their hair.   

"Come and sit with us, Tegwen"

DJ, who is with Sioned, invites Tegwen to come and sit with them, 

Sioned glares at him

resulting in a disapproving stare.

Tegwen says that Matthew is on his way, having taken Ken to a rugby session.   

"Ken – makes him sound like an old man!"

Sioned sneers, “Ken!   There’s a name for a child!   It makes him sound like an old man.   And ask me before you invite her to sit with us!”

"I'm furious with you all!"

Arwen and Gwern, together with Cai, have been called before the head mistress;  “I’m furious with all of you for what has happened today!”    She turns to Cai;  “You were supposed to distribute those books – and you never give the key of the staff toilets to a pupil!”

Cai puts the blame on Arwen 

Cai argues that Arwen took the key;  he did not give it to her.   

"It was under a pencil case"

Gwern confirms, “Mr Rossiter picked up a pencil case and the key was underneath.”

"What were you thinking – blocking a toilet?"

Then Ffion turns to the two children;  “What were you thinking – blocking a toilet?”   

"Gwern was only a lookout"

Arwen insists that Gwern was only a lookout, 

"Have you any idea how embarrassing this is for me?"

but her mother rages, “Have you any idea how embarrassing this is for me?   Don’t answer that – because you do know!   Why, Arwen?   There must be a reason – why would you do this to the books and Mr Rossiter’s jacket?”

They both remain silent, as Ffion continues, “It’s vandalism – I should call the police!”

"He called you The Dragon – and I wanted revenge"

At last Arwen speaks;  “Mr Rossiter called you The Dragon – I wanted revenge!”   

"Right, you two – out, now!"

Ffion sends them out, warning that there will be serious consequences, and when Cai is about to follow them, she stops him.

"If you're going to treat me like a pupil . . ."

“If you’re going to treat me like a pupil, I shall leave at the same time as them!” he insists, 

Ffion has never come across such insubordination

and Ffion is absolutely furious.

"Right, another pint, Math?"

Tyler leaves the Deri and Tegwen is about to buy another round for her and Mathew when she discovers that her purse is missing;  

"I can't find my purse!"

“I can’t find my purse,” she says, 

Cassie jumps to the inevitable conclusion

and Cassie glances suspiciously across the bar at Eifion.

When Tegwen mentions the fact to Sioned, 

"The cheap one you had earlier?"

she comments disparagingly, “That cheap one you had earlier?”   Tegwen remembers her stealing other kids’ money at school, but Sioned snarls, “Listen, I’d steal from someone with a lot more money than you!”

"You don't like her"

DJ asks Sioned if she did take it;  “You don’t like her.”   

"The season tickets were in the purse!"

Tegwen wails that the season tickets for the rugby were in the purse, and she worked so hard to get them.   Mathew suggests that she should check in the toilet, 

"I'm sure she had it earlier"

and meanwhile Cassie asks if he is sure that she lost it in the pub and not in the street.   Mathew is certain that she had the purse earlier.

Eifion asks Cassie for another pint, but is told, “Get it yourself – you’re not paid to sit down!   He drinks all the profits.   You’d like a rugby season ticket – have you seen Tegwen’s purse?” she asks him directly.

"You've stolen before"

Sioned is quick to remind him that he has stolen before;  

"Once a thief, always a thief"

Cassie adds, “Once a thief, always a thief!”   Eifion makes it clear that he has not stolen anything, 

"They were for her eight-year-old son"

but Mathew appears not to believe this, emphasising that the tickets were for Ken, Tegwen’s eight-year-old son.

“You do think it’s me then,” says Eifion, and as at that moment Tegwen returns to say that the purse was not in the toilet, 

Eifion rapidly disappears 

he quickly puts on his jacket and leaves, 

Cassie's suspicions are confirmed

which Cassie regards as confirming her suspicions.

Mathew follows him along the street;  “Just wait,” he says, 

"I could never hurt a little boy, Mathew"

and Eifion is adamant that he could never hurt a little boy, reminding Mathew that he has kids of his own.   

"I don't know who to believe any more"

“I’m sorry, but I don’t know who to believe any more,” Mathew sighs.

"Check my online banking if you like!"

“And I’ve got my own rugby tickets – I paid for them!” Eifion snarls, “You can check my online banking if you like.   I know everyone thinks I’m the thief, but I’m not!”

Mathew apologises for accusing him, and Eifion wonders, “Do you believe me about everything else now?”   

"Eifion didn't steal your purse"

Tegwen approaches, and Mathew assures her that Eifion did not steal her purse;  “I hope the thief gets caught before long!” says Eifion as he walks away.

Gaynor waters a plant

Gaynor is watering a plant, when Hywel says that he is sorry for what he said earlier;  

"You have every right, Gaynor"

“It was unfair – you have every right to stay here on your own over the weekend.   I can understand why you don’t want to spend time with Esther after losing Izzy – I’m the same with Meilyr.   Esther is still here, but Izzy and Meilyr are gone.”

"I don't feel like that about Esther"

Gaynor insists that she does not feel like that about Esther, and he tells her to have a quiet weekend while he has a busy one, 

"Perhaps we can go together next time"

adding, “Perhaps we can go away together next time.”

"I hope I'm getting an apology"

Ffion is back at Y Felin again, where Cai hopes he is going to get an apology;  

"I'm the one who deserves an apology!"

“I’m the one who deserves an apology!” Ffion stresses, but he maintains that she had a go at him in front of pupils – which is disrespectful.

"The staff will laugh at you!"

“You don’t deserve respect – the staff will laugh at you because of this,” Ffion goes on, but he argues that he was deceived by Arwen.   “You’re the adult, Cai – you should know better,” he is reprimanded.

"They should be expelled"

“I hope you’re going to punish them – they should be expelled,” he demands, and she is adamant that she will not show favouritism to either Arwen – or to him.

"I don't know how I can rely on you!"

“This is serious, Cai!   I don’t know how I can rely on you as deputy – and you’ve been at school less than a week,” she rages.

"Well, you'd better find a way . . ."

He threatens, “Well, you’d better find a way, because you don’t want everything about us to come out – how you ruined my marriage – that you gave me a job after we had a relationship.   

". . . why don't we try to work together?"

“Why don’t we try to work together – yeah?   And show some respect, all right?”

Ffion cannot believe this 

Ffion shakes her head in disbelief and walks out of the house.

Eifion drown his sorrows with cans of beer

Eifion is round the back of APD, by the campervan, drinking from a can, which he throws to the ground.   

Anita is having an early night

Inside the campervan, Anita is bedding down once again for the night, and hears Mathew come round the corner and speak to him.

"I've been looking everywhere for you"

He says he has been looking everywhere for his cousin;  

"Why – has something else been stolen"

“Why – has something else been stolen?” is the reply, 

"I was totally wrong to accuse you"

and Mathew confesses that he was totally wrong to accuse Eifion, but Tegwen was angry and Ken was upset.

“Someone’s trying to frame me – and they’re doing a good job of it,” Eifion groans, and he is told to go home with Mathew.   

"I'll sleep in the van"

“I’ll sleep in the van,” he replies, 

This concerns Anita

which rather startles Anita.

“I promise I won’t say anything else about the thefts,” Mathew tells him, 

They head towards the flat

and they go towards the shop flat.   

Anita makes sure they have gone

Relieved, Anita peers round the curtain, 

Tyler is lurking nearby . . .

and we see Tyler emerge from the back door of the erstwhile gym, 

. . . with a malevolent look . . .

looking malevolently  

. . . and Tegwen's purse

at the purse he is holding in his hand.
