15 September 2022

Anita is desperate to escape . . .

As Tyler stands with the burning match in his hand, he hears screaming and shouting from inside the campervan;  he looks horrified

. . . which comes as a shock to Tyler

and throws down the match, fortunately far enough away from the petrol.

She cannot open the rear doors

For some reason, Anita is unable to open the rear doors of the van and continues to shout and hammer on the window.   In her desperation she picks up a frying pan and smashes the glass.   By this time Tyler is walking away from the scene,

Now Tyler has to change tactics

but realises that he will be seen, so instead turns and runs towards the van,

He wrestles with the doorhandle . . .

managing to open the door from the outside.   Anita by this time has injured her hands on the glass,

. . . and helps the hysterical Anita out

and as he helps he from the van, she cries, “I can smell petrol – I thought it was going to blow up!”

"You're safe now, Anita"

She collapses to the ground and Tyler assures her that she is safe.

He releases the enormity of what he has done

He realises what he has almost done

The campervan is smeared with blood

and we see the campervan with the blood from Anita’s lacerations.

"You're here earlier than usual"

At Penrhewl, Sioned is drinking a cup of tea when Britt arrives;  Sioned explains that DJ is doing some work there and her mother has taken Huwi to Meithrin [nursery].   “You’re here earlier than usual,” she says, and Britt points out that they have a lot of orders today.

“More than 50, according to your mother,” Britt replies,

"That publicity paid off"

“That publicity paid off – 50 every day – 250 every week!”   Sioned agrees that the business is making a tidy profit,

"About what you said in the Deri the other night"

and Britt continues, “About what you said in the Deri the other night – asking me to buy your share in Cae Glas – you did say £10,000, didn’t you?”

SiƓn is going to jack up the price

Sioned is now having second thoughts and points out, “With all these orders coming in, its value has increased significantly – but for the right price we could move fast.”

"It stinks of petrol and there's glass everywhere"

Eifion and Iolo have gone to see Jason about the van;  “Sorry, boys, I don’t know what to tell you – the van stinks of petrol and there’s glass everywhere.

Eifion is more concerned whether his belongings are all right;

"Yes, you worry about yourself and your stuff, Eifion!"

“Yes, you worry about yourself and your stuff, Eifion!   It will cost a fortune to sort out,” Jason moans, and Eifion wants his deposit back.

"Is Anita all right?"

Iolo is rather more concerned about Anita, and is told that fortunately she is all right, as Tyler happened to be passing;

"Tyler had gone for a run"

“He’d gone for a run and he took her straight to the hospital – her arm’s a mess apparently.”

“What are we going to do now?” demands Eifion, and Iolo says they will have to find a way to tell Greta that her holiday has been cancelled.

"I'm sure we can sort something out"

Jason is sure they can sort something out once the insurance money has come through, but now he has to go to work, as he is late.

"The next thing I knew, Tyler was helping me out"

At the hospital, Anita has now been joined by Kelly;  she says, “The next thing I knew, Tyler was helping me out.”   Kelly says that she is indebted to Tyler,

"Anyone would have done the same"

but he maintains that anyone would have done the same.

“Lucky that you were passing – I mean, what are the chances?” Kelly muses, and he is quick to point out that he was out for a run and heard someone screaming in the back of the van.

"And the rest is history"

“And the rest is history,” she adds.   Anita regards him as a hero, and she is going to make sure that everybody knows that.

"Right, I'll go now"

He will leave now, and hopes that they manage to sort her arm out;

"I owe you a couple of drinks"

“I owe you a couple of drinks!” Anita tells him.

Kelly enquires what the doctors said, and Anita now has to wait to get some stitches;

"I have to get over the shock"

“They can’t do anything for a while because I have to get over the shock.”

"I'm just glad you're OK"

Kelly is just very relieved that she is OK.

"What's in the bag, then?"

In the Deri, Eifion is looking very depressed, and asks Mathew what is in the bag beside him;  “A rugby ball, for Ken,” is the reply, and Eifion supposes that he is trying to buy Ken’s love.

Apparently Ken is very boisterous

“All he’s done today is jump from one sofa to the other, pretending to be Tyler – and then he moves the furniture, pretending they’re Anita.”

"Did you mention Anita?"

Griffiths is at the bar (where there is another barman) and cannot help investigating when he hears Anita’s name;

"Has something happened to her?"

“Has something happened to Anita?”   He is told that she is in hospital after suffering a nasty injury to her arm – in Kelly’s and Jason’s van,

"She appears to have been sleeping in it"

in which she appears to have been sleeping.

"Why would she do that?"

Griffiths wonders why she would do that and decides that he will go and see her.

"Are you going to give it to him?"

Eifion asks whether Mathew is going to keep looking at the rugby ball, or if he is going to give it to Ken.

"I'm just worried he doesn't like me"

“I’m just worried that he doesn’t like me, that’s all,” Mathew answers, and is told that not all heroes wear capes – or save people from the back of vans.

"H'e want to be a Scarlet again by the weekend"

“Ken is just swept up in Tyler’s antics – he’ll want to be a Scarlet again by the weekend,” says Eifion, “The rugby is what’s important – that’s all they want – a rugby ball or a teddy bear,

Mathew thinks that he is right

“so they know you’re thinking about them.”

"I though you'd be on the M4 by now"

At Y Felin, Cai is doing some school paperwork when Iolo comes back, carrying his luggage;  “I thought you’d be on the M4 by now,” Cai comments, and is told that they had to cancel.

"Someone tried to steal the van and set fire to it"

“Someone tried to steal the van and set fire to it,” groans Iolo, and when he is asked who would do a thing like that, goes on, “I don’t know – someone who has a problem with a gay man taking his daughter on holiday?”

"It probably wasn't a homophobic attack"

Cai assumes that it was probably kids, not a homophobic attack;

"Something a homophobe would say!"

“Yes, something a homophobe would say!” Iolo remarks.   Cai reiterates that he is sorry for what he did to Eifion, and he means it.   He knows how excited Greta was;  he would never do anything like that.

"She's disappointed she's not going on holiday"

Iolo apologises, pointing out that Greta is disappointed that she is not going on holiday.

"Thanks, Mathew, it's lush!"

In the shop flat, Ken has been given the rugby ball and thanks Mathew;  his mother encourages him to show Mathew his ‘scrum-half pass’ which he has been practising.

His rugby pass . . .

Of course, as might have been predicted, when he does so, the ball knocks the portrait of Izzy and Mathew from the wall, which infuriates Mathew.   “Don’t shout – it was an accident, and my fault for encouraging him,” protests Tegwen.

. . .knocks a picture from the wall

“Look what he’s done!” rages Mathew,

Ken is terrified and runs away

and Ken runs from the flat, with Mathew in hot pursuit.

Mathew catches up with Ken

He catches up with Ken at the bench by the alley, and asks if he can sit down;

"I'm sorry for shouting at you . . ."

Ken is sorry about the picture, and Mathew is really sorry for shouting at him.

". . . I know you didn't mean to break it"

He knows it was an accident;  “It’s just stuff, at the end of the day – I know you didn’t mean to break the picture – yes, it was important to me, but our relationship is more important.

"It might be time to change it"

“I did like that picture, but it might be time to change it – find something new to put in its place.”

"How about a Scarlets poster?"

Ken suggests a Scarlets poster, but Mathew thinks that may be going too far;  he is sure that they can find something together, “You, me and your Mam.”

Sioned is passing

Sioned comes walking through the alley, as they are about to go back inside.

"Look at you, being all fatherly!"

“Look at you, being all fatherly!” exclaims Sioned,

"I'm learning what's important in life"

and he says that he is starting to learn what is important in life.

Griffiths stands by Anita's bed

Griffiths is now at Anita’s bedside, and looks at her sleeping;  she wakes up with a start and sees him there.

She is shocked to see him there

“What are you doing?” she demands, “How long have you been there?

"Watching me, like some stalker?"

“Watching me sleeping, like some stalker?”

"I wanted to make sure you're all right"

He says that he was in the village and heard what happened;  “I wanted to make sure that you are all right.”

"Well I am – so you can leave now!"

She confirms that she is and that now he can leave;  he tells her to ring if she needs anything.

"Pity you didn't phone last week, when I really need you!"

“It’s a pity you didn’t phone me last week, when I really needed you,” she scolds him, so he wonders why she did not ask for help.   Anita notices that there is a bag beside him, which he says contains something for her.

"Oh, Ieuan, you never learn!"

“I hope you haven’t brought your mother’s smellies – oh, Ieuan, you never learn!” she snaps,

"You can't blame a man for trying to do the right thing"

and he protests that she cannot blame a man for trying to do the right thing.

Off he goes, taking his bag with him

With that, he walks away.

The picture is carried outside . . .

Mathew comes out of the shop flat, carrying the damaged picture,

. . . and placed in the bin

which he places in the bin.

Cai has erected a tent

When Iolo returns with Greta to Y Felin, he finds that Cai has erected a tent,

"It's a tent, Dadi!"

which she immediately recognises

She makes herself at home in it

and wastes no time in going into it.   Iolo thinks that this is rather weird,

"It's the best I could do"

and Cai concedes that it is not quite like sleeping under the stars, but is the best that he could do.

“I wanted to do something nice because you have missed out on the holiday.

"Welcome to 'Y Felin Campsite'!"

“Your father and I will be out tonight, so you’ll have the place to yourselves.   Welcome to ‘Y Felin Campsite’!”

"Dad and Cai have gone out for the night . . ."

Iolo immediately phones Eifion and invites him to come over to Y Felin ;  “Dad and Cai have gone out for the night –

". . . no, not with each other, you idiot!"

“no, not with each other, you idiot!   Just come over – I’ve got something to show you.”

Sioned is waiting for DJ

In the Deri, where Geraint is now on duty behind the bar, Sioned is sitting quietly and DJ comes in, having been summoned by her.

"I want to discuss something with you"

“I thought it would be a change to eat out instead of cooking – and I want to discuss something with you.”

"Not that business with your mother again?"

He assumes that this is about the business with her mother – he is embarrassed about it, but it was not his fault.

"I love you, you idiot!"

“That’s not what I want to discuss – I trust you – I love you, idiot!” she continues.

"What have I done to deserve you?"

He wonders what he has done to deserve her,

"I want a baby"

but she says, “The question is, what will you do to keep me?   I want a baby,”

"Yes, when we're ready"

and he already knows that.   Once they are ready . . .

"Now!   It feels right . . ."

“Now!” she emphasises, “It feels right – there’s no sense in wasting time.

". . . but we'll have some food first!"

“Don’t worry, I won’t drag you home now – we’ll have some food first!”

Does DJ look doubtful?

DJ does not appear to be so sure about this.

"I have to come back to get the stitches out"

Kelly and Jason are collecting Anita from the hospital;  “I have to come back to get the stitches out,” she tells them.

"Why were you sleeping in the van?"

Jason points out that she could have been killed and demands, “Why were you sleeping in the van?”

She protests that she did not know it was going to be stolen,

"I don't feel comfortable at number 10!"

and shouts, “I was sleeping in the van because I don’t like being at number 10, after everything that has happened there.   I don’t feel comfortable there!”

"I'm fed up with being a gooseberry"

They do their best to console her, and she goes on, “I knew you were looking forward to having the place to yourselves – I’m fed up with being a gooseberry.”

"You're not, Auntie Neet!"

Kelly assures her that she is not, and Jason regards it as settled that she is coming back to live with them.

"I don't want to be a burden, Kelly"

Anita does not want to be a burden, but he insists there are to be no arguments;

"We're starting to miss you"

“We’re not going to be happy, knowing that you’re scared in your own home.   Anyway, we are starting to miss you, to be honest.”
Kelly is also quite sure.

"I'm looking forward to a good night's sleep"

Anita is looking forward to a good night’s sleep,

They leave for home

as they leave the hospital and head towards Bryntirion.

"Can we talk about this later?"

Colin asks Britt, “Can we talk about this later, please, Britt?” as he sits down with his popcorn in front of the television.

"Sioned says we have to move quickly"

He is told that Sioned said they have to move quickly if they want to buy her share.   He demands, “How much is all this going to cost?”

"£10,000 or £12,000 should be enough"

“She didn’t say – £10,000, £12,000 should be enough,” Britt rather vaguely answers, and he reminds her that they are drowning in debt as it is.   “Colin, this is an investment – we’ll get our money back in no time!” as she has said on other occasions, “If you could see the business – it’s growing every day!

"The turnover is incredible!"

“The turnover is incredible!”

"We'll talk later – after the film"

However, Colin’s attention is firmly on the television, and he wants to talk later, after the film.   “If you don’t think our future is
more important than a film,” she rages, but he insists that it is a classic – The Searchers, with the Duke, John Wayne.

"I'll be back in a minute"

“OK, I’ll be back in a minute,” she tells him and leaves the house.

She dials Garry's number

Outside the door she takes out her phone;  “Garry, I want to ask a favour – a loan.

"It's an investment"

“I’m not going to beg – it’s an investment.”

Greta is read a bedtime story

At Y Felin, Iolo has been reading a story to Greta;  “Well, what a special adventure, said Efa to Grwndi the cat.   Time for bed, is it?”

"This is Mr Jones"

Eifion has a present for her before she goes to bed;  “This is Mr Jones – he used to belong to Bobi and Arthur, my children.   I’ve been talking to Mr Jones, and he told me he’s been feeling lonely since Bobi and Arthur went to live somewhere else – and he would love it if he could live with you.”

"Thank you!"

“Thank you,” says Greta, and she is told that she has to look after him, give him cwtches and keep him safe all night.

"Good night"

She says good night to them and goes to her tent.

Iolo kisses Eifion

Eifion and Iolo kiss.

"I've been thinking a lot about today"

Tegwen has been thinking a lot about what happened today, and how accident-prone Ken can be;  “You have to remember that he is a boy, and you need a lot of patience to deal with him.

"This is more difficult than I thought"

“Sorry, this is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be.”

"You want to split up"

Mathew is convinced that she wants to split up,

"No – the opposite!"

but she protests, “No – the opposite,” which he finds very reassuring and they hug.

"I was amazed how you dealt with it"

“I was amazed with the way you dealt with what happened – I expected you to explode.   That’s what his father would have done – scream and shout – that’s why Ken ran away.”

"Well, I'm not his father"

“Well, I’m not his father,” says Mathew,

"The job is available, if you want it"

and she points out that the job is available, if he wants it.

"How would you feel if we moved in together?"

“I know it’s a big step – and you don’t have to answer now – but how would you feel if we moved in together?”

Mathew is lost for words

Mathew looks rather taken aback by this question.
