Tesni is talking to DI Fielding 

When Gwyneth comes into number 9, she finds Tesni talking to DI Fielding, who is just about to leave;  

"If you have any questions . . ."

“If you have any questions, you’ve got my number,” she says. 

"Did you get any new information?"

As soon as has she has gone, Gwyneth wants to know what she said;  “Did you get any new information.”   

"They've released Mam's body"

Tesni replies that she called to say that they have released her Mam’s body, and she groans there are so many things to organise.   “I’m more than happy to help,” Gwyneth tells her, “But you need to contact an undertaker – 

"People round here go to Bowen, Llanarthur"

“people round here always go to Bowen, Llanarthur.   I can phone them if you want.”   

"Would you do that, Gwyneth?"

Tesni is pleased to accept the offer.

Mark is 'caught short' on his round

In the Deri, Mark suddenly rushes in, explaining that he has to use the toilet, and Cassie warns him to be careful, as she has just mopped the floor.   

"Can you look after the bar Britt?"

Now she needs to go to the cellar to get some crisps, and asks Britt to look after the bar.

"You can have a lie-in this morning . . ."

Britt immediately gets out her phone and calls Eifion;  “I’ve got some good news – you can have a lie-in this morning – 

". . . but make sure you come in after lunch"

“but make sure you come in after lunch.”

She puts a bottle of champagne on the bar

While she is speaking, she takes from the cupboard underneath the till a bottle of champagne, which she places on the bar.   Mark returns from the toilet 

"I wouldn't leave that there if I were you"

and comments, “I wouldn’t leave that that there if I were you – someone will have nabbed it before you turn around.”

She explains that is the point;  “Someone’s been stealing, so I’m setting a trap.”   He wonders what they have been stealing, 

"What do you think people steal from a pub?"

and she laughs, “Gold bars!   What do you think people steal from a pub?”

“Well, good luck, Sherlock,” he says, as he leaves on his round, 

"Fancy coming to a paranormal night?"

and she asks if he fancies coming to a paranormal night tonight, as she is restarting it all.   He regrets that he is busy tonight, but she promises that it will be a special night – she has arranged a big surprise for everyone.

"I have to go somewhere first"

“I have to go somewhere first, but if I’m back in time, we’ll see,” he replies.   Cassie returns with the box of crisps 

"Bills, mostly"

and Britt hands over the post, which consists mostly of bills.

"They'll pick up the body today"

At number 9, Gwyneth is speaking to the undertaker and informs Tesni that someone will pick up the body today;  then she can talk to them about the details of the funeral when she is ready.   

"Have you organised a funeral before?"

Tesni is very grateful and wonders if Gwyneth has had to organise a funeral before.

“My mother’s – it was a while ago, but it was difficult.   

"What kind of funeral would your Mam have wanted?"

“Have you thought about what kind of funeral she would have wanted?” asks Gwyneth, but Tesni has no idea, and cannot remember her mother ever talking about it.   She is advised to keep it simple, and not to think she has to spend a huge  amount of money.

“I’ll help as much as I can,” Gwyneth reassures her, “And you’ve got Dylan.”   

"I don't want him anywhere near me"

Tesni is adamant that she does not want him anywhere near her,  

"Plenty of people would be willing to help"

but Gwyneth points out that there are plenty of people who would be willing to help.

Andrea heads towards the shop

Andrea comes across the road, heading towards her shop, 

Mark is getting into a taxi . . .

when she notices Mark getting into a taxi and waves to him;  

. . . and looking rather guilty about it

he looks rather guilty, but then gets into the cab.

"You left your card"

Tyler comes out of the bookshop, and Siôn calls him back, as he has forgotten his credit card;  Siôn is sure that the book which Tyler has bought will be loved by Greta, and he comments that the pictures are great.   

"To keep my customers happy"

“That’s why I’m here – to keep my customers happy and satisfied,” says Siôn.

Tesni walks past and at first ignores them;  

"I have to organise the funeral"

Siôn asks her how she is, and she answers that she has to organise the funeral.   

"She was a lovely woman"

Tyler expresses his condolences, calling her mother, “A lovely woman.”

"Is there anything I can do to help, Tesni?"

Siôn enquires if Tesni needs any help with the arrangements, but she declines the offer;  “There must be something I can do,” he goes on, 

"Come in for a cup of tea"

“Come in for a cup of tea.”   She goes into the shop with him.

"So you understand 'feng shui'?"

At number 10, Anita did not know that Gwyneth understood things like ‘feng shui’, but is told that it is the same principle as ‘reiki’.   

"You're aiming to release healthy energy"

“You’re aiming to release healthy energy – what we’re doing it now is trying to create positivity in the room.”

"Just by moving the furniture?"

Anita looks sceptical;  “Just by moving the furniture?”   Gwyneth  maintains that she will be surprised by the difference it will make, and Anita agrees that is what they want – a bit of healthy energy.

"Do you hear that?"

Then Anita hears the sound of a gentle tapping which appears to come from upstairs;  

"I've been hearing this noise"

“There,” she says, pointing upwards, “Since I moved back here, I’ve been hearing this noise,” but Gwyneth dismisses it as simply the wind.

"Sorry, I think I'm going mad"

“I go cold every time I hear it,” Anita continues, “There’s something here – some presence.”   As she looks at Gwyneth, she realises, “Sorry, I think I’m going mad,” but is told that she is a sensitive woman, which is why she can feel the negative energy.

“But you don’t need to be frightened of it – we’ll sort it,” Gwyneth confidently asserts, 

"The important thing is that you feel completely safe"

“It will probably disappear when we rearrange this room, but if you’re still feeling the negative vibes, we’ll arrange another session.   The important thing is that you feel completely safe here.”   

Anita does not appear to believe all this 

Anita does not completely believe this.

"You could write a tribute for the funeral"

Inside the bookshop, Siôn and Tesni sit, drinking tea;  he suggests, “You could write a tribute for the funeral, and then, if you like, we can publish it in Cwm Ni.”   She is not sure about that, and would not know what to write.   

"She was a very nice woman"

“I’m sure you’d have plenty to say – I know your mother wasn’t a great fan of mine, but she was a very nice woman.”

"No-one really knows anyone, do they?"

“Everyone keeps saying how nice she was – that there was no-one like her, everyone’s friend – but, no-one knows anyone.   Not really, do they?” asks Tesni, 

"One of life's big questions"

and Siôn remarks that now she is asking one of life’s big questions.

"I don't feel like I knew her at all"

“I lived with her for so many years, but I don’t feel like I knew her at all – I don’t,” she says and gets up to leave the shop.   Siôn imagines that something must have happened, but she thanks him for the advice and leaves.   

Siôn is worried about her

He watches her go, concerned about her.

Another promising house has gone

In the Deri, Cai is drinking, again, and Rhys is telling him about a house which would have suited him ‘down to ground’.   “But we got an offer over the asking price before the details went on the website.   

"That's the market!"

“That’s the market – it’s been wild for a while.   But don’t worry – I’m keeping a look out for you.”

"I can't stand it at Y Felin for much longer"

“I can’t stand it at Y Felin for much longer!” Cai growls, and Rhys laughs that some people would love to have Siôn tidying up after them.   

"It's all right for you to laugh!"

“I put something down and he’s put it away before I turn round – it’s no joke!” Cai goes on, “It’s all right for you to laugh – it’s driving me crackers!”

Rhys declines the offer of another pint, remarking that some people have to work, but they will meet for a pint tonight.   

They leave the Deri . . .

As they leave the Deri, Britt, who is clearing the tables, suddenly notices that the bottle of champagne is no longer on the bar.

. . . and then Britt notices what has also gone

“Did you move it?” she angrily demands of Cassie, “That bottle – it was there just now!”   

"What are you on about?"

Cassie does not know what she is talking about, so she explains, “The bottle of champagne – it was an expensive one, too!”   

"What was it doing on the bar?"

She is asked what an expensive bottle of champagne was doing on the bar.

"Eifion isn't the thief"

“Bait – to prove that Eifion isn’t the thief.   Has he been in?   This is proof – Eifion isn’t the thief.”   

"Well, who is the thief, then?"

Cassie asks her who is the thief, then, and Britt’s demeanour indicates that she suspects it was Cassie.

"Perhaps you took it, so you could blame Eifion"

“Perhaps you took it, so that I’d blame Eifion and get rid of him.”   

"You've had it in for him since he started!"

Cassie is highly affronted that she is being accused of being a thief, but is told, “You’ve had it in for him since he started here!”

"I'm not listening to any more of this!"

“I’m not listening to any more of this!” snarls Cassie.

At a rural pub . . .

At a riverside pub, 

. . . Mark meets with Alexander

Mark carries a couple of pints to where a bearded man is sitting outside;  “Listen, your sister doesn’t know I’m here,” Mark begins, 

"You haven't treated her very kindly

“And, as a friend, I’m worried about her.   There is no easy way to say this, but you as a family haven’t treated her very kindly.” 

"What are you talking about?"

The man is infuriated by this suggestion, 

"Why would you turn your back on her?"

and Mark continues, “I don’t understand why you would turn your back on her.”

“Are you serious, mate?” the man demands, and Mark ploughs on, pointing out that she is coping well with things now, but she has had some tough times, and it is love that she needs now, not her family turning their back because she is HIV-positive.

"Are we talking about the same person here?"

This comes as a total shock to Alexander, who demands, “Are we talking about the same person here?” 

"So you didn't know?"

and Mark realises that he did not know.

"Have you come to your senses yet?"

In the Deri, Cassie asks Britt, “Have you come to your senses yet?” but Britt maintains that Cassie is determined to get rid of Eifion.   “How long are you going to go on about this?” Cassie demands, and is reminded that the bottle went somewhere.

"Someone was stupid enough to put it on the bar!"

“Yes, because someone was stupid enough to put it under the nose of every Tom, Dick and Harry!” she is reminded, “I expect you to pay for it, too!”   

"What's going on?"

Dani comes downstairs to investigate this shouting;  “She’s accusing me of stealing!” exclaims Cassie.

"Do you have any proof?"

Dani, who has been followed by Tyler, enquires if Britt has proof of this.   She is told that only the two of them were there;  

"Cai and Rhys were here"

Cassie points out that Rhys and Cai were also on the premises, so Dani suggests that perhaps they took it, 

"They wouldn't do that"

but Britt is certain that they would not do that.   “And I would?” interjects Cassie.

Dani is sure that Cassie would not do that, 

"There's a criminology expert here!"

and Britt sneers, “There’s a criminology expert here!”   

"Who has a track record of stealing?"

Tyler insists that they have to think about the most likely suspects – someone who has a track record of stealing.

"Gaynor's a bit of a kleptomaniac"

The only one that Britt can think of it is Gaynor;  “They say she’s a bit of a kleptomaniac.”   

"Don't be ridiculous – she only stole a drill"

Cassie tells her not to be ridiculous, as she only stole a drill, 

"Britt have have a point, you know"

but Dani considers that Britt may have a point.

"Good afternoon"

Eifion comes sauntering in and wishes them good afternoon;  

Britt grins at him

Britt simply grins at him.

"As long as she takes these tablets"

Mark continues his explanation, “So it doesn’t affect her at all really, as long as she takes these tablets.”   Alexander does not know what to say, and Mark is surprised that she has not said anything.

"It wasn't us who turned our backs on her . . ."

“Listen, mate,” Alexander begins, “It wasn’t us who turned our backs on her – 

". . . she closed the door on us over twenty years ago"

“she closed the door on us over twenty years ago – and we haven’t seen her since.”   

"Did you fall out?"

Mark is shocked by this news, and enquires why she left, and whether they fell out.

"The first chance she got, off she went"

“Mam has suffered from motor neurone disease since we were children – the three of us looked after her,” Alexander continues, “Money was short and Dad was away on the lorries.   It got too much for Andrea, so the first chance she got, off she went.   We haven’t seen her since!   She didn’t even get in touch to see how we were – or how Mam was.”

"Why have you been trying to contact her?"

All of this has hit Mark very hard and he does not know what to say;  “You’ve obviously only seen one side of her,” he is told, and Mark wants to know why he has been trying to contact Andrea.   

"Because Mam is dying"

“Mam is dying – but typical – she’s ignored every one of my calls.   I was worried about meeting you today – 

Mark could hardly be described as a 'heavy'

“I thought you were going to be some heavy that Andrea had asked to warn me off  – that was before I saw you!”

Mark says that he will have a word with Andrea and tell about about her mother;  “OK – you do what you want, mate – 

"Only a fool would trust her"

“but watch your back – only a fool would trust her!”   

Mark is lost for words

Mark finds this message rather unsettling.

"The motivation of crime"

Dani has gone to Llwyncelyn, ostensibly to seek help with an essay;  “The motivation of crime – but the psychological element, not the social element.   Wow – I didn’t think words like that would ever come out of my mouth!   Anyway I wanted to discuss it with you and get some insight because of your experiences recently.   

"Is there a temptation to do it again?"

“Is there a temptation there to do it again?”

"I offered academic help . . ."

After a pause, Gaynor points out that when she offered to help with the course, what she had in mind was academic help;  “To help with the course, correct grammar – 

". . . not to be a case study!"

“not to be a case study!”   Dani is now lost for words, and Gaynor continues that she was in a very bad place at the time, and is ashamed of what she did.

"I can't believe you came her to dig up the past!"

“I’m sorry, I can’t believe that you came here specifically to dig up the past like this!”   Dani apologises, and will not mention it again.

"It's just, in the Deri . . ."

As she turns to leave, she adds, “It’s just, in the Deri . . .” but then she thinks better of it and hurriedly leaves the house.

Cai has bought the next round

That evening in the Deri, Cai brings over a couple of pints, just as Tegwen comes in;  

"Are you up to speed with the quiz?"

“Are you up to speed with the quiz, Mr Rossiter?” she asks, “I’ve been practising flat out.”   

"I know all the answers!"

He boasts that he does not have to practise, as he knows all the answers.

“We’ll see about that tomorrow,” Tegwen smiles, and he tells her not to call him Mr Rossiter.   “OK, sir – sorry!” she says, 

"Do you fancy buying one of these tickets?"

“Do you fancy buying one of these tickets for Britt’s paranormal night?   A few of the girls were too chicken to come.”   

"That's not really our scene"

Rhys does not think that sort of thing is their scene.

"I shouldn't have gone to see Gaynor"

Dani comes back to the pub, acknowledging that she should not have gone to see Gaynor.   “I told you,” says Cassie.   

"I expect you think it was me"

Eifion presumes that they think it was him, 

"The jury's out on that one"

and is told, “The jury’s out on that one.”   He wonders what he has to do to prove himself to her, reminding her that he was not there this morning.   She suspects that he may have sneaked in, and Dani angrily tells them to get over it.

Anita is trying to have a quiet evening

Anita is relaxing in number 10 and watching the television when suddenly she hears the sound of singing, specifically Jaclyn’s voice singing one of her songs.

🎵“Your life is content,

You’re happy with your world

But there’s something in the back of your mind

That still worries you.” 🎵

"That's Jaclyn's voice!"

Anita turns off the television and realises that the singing is coming from outside.   

She looks through the window . . .

She looks out of the window as the song continues, 

🎵“You fall into the trap without knowing what’s what 

But there’s nothing left but a foolish idea 

That everything falls into place

And the playing turns nasty, the wine turns sour

The smile turns to tears, and the excitement disappears.”🎵

Outside, Britt announces to the followers of the paranormal night, “As the finale to the night, this is the house where Jaclyn Parri was murdered – 

"In cold blood!"

“in cold blood!”

Anita is very upset

Inside the house, Anita is devastated, 

"Don't you think this is in bad taste?"

and Tyler takes issue with Britt, “Hold on, Britt – don’t you think this is in bad taste?”

"What do you think you're doing?"

The door of number 9 opens and Tesni rages, “What do you think you’re doing?   That’s Mam’s voice!   Are you using Mam as part of your ghost tours?” 

"Drawing attention to your mother's case"

Britt corrects her that they are paranormal nights, and that she is trying to draw more attention to her mother’s case, “And to get the pigs to do their job!”

"Making money out of Mam's death!"

Tesni can see that all she is doing is trying to make money out of her mother’s death;  “How can you be so horrible?   Get out of here, now!” she screams, 

Anita does not know what to do

while Anita inside the house is holding her head in anguish.

"Thank you for coming, everyone"

Britt makes the quiet announcement that the night has now finished and thanks everyone for coming.   

"You should be ashamed!"

Gwyneth snarls at her, “You should be ashamed!”   

Anita is in floods of tears

Anita is in a state of panic and bursts into tears.

Mark does his best to avoid Andrea

As the crowd disperses, Andrea catches sight of Mark, who does his best to avoid her;  “Remind me not to go to one of Britt’s nights again,” she says, 

"Where did you go in the taxi this morning?"

“Where did you go in the taxi this morning?”   

"Sorry – I'm meeting someone"

He alleges that he has to go because he is meeting someone and beats a hasty retreat, 

Andrea cannot understand his attitude

leaving Andrea puzzled.
