"You've come to give me a hand with the sheep"

Eileen is looking across the fields at Penrhewl when DJ joins her;  he says, “Don’t tell me – you’ve come to give me a hand with the sheep?”

"Sioned's coming with someone from APD"

She regrets that life is not that simple, and has been told that Sioned is coming up to the farm this afternoon with someone from APD.   “She wants everyone to see that we’re in agreement,” Eileen continues, “I’m going to have to put on one heck of an act.”

"Just tell her you're pulling out"

He suggests that she just tells her daughter she is pulling out, reminding Eileen that she is the one who owns Penrhewl.

"Perhaps I would lose her"

“Can you imagine what she would be like if I did that?   Perhaps I would lose her,” Eileen frets, and DJ suspects that Sioned is using emotional blackmail.

"I'll go to the meeting on your behalf"

He volunteers to go to the meeting on Eileen’s behalf, and will not listen to any protests.

Colin is looking no less concerned

Aaron is messaging on his phone, while Colin looks extremely concerned;

"Want some toast, Aaron?"

he asks Aaron if you want some toast, but is told that he is fasting.   “You don’t need to lose any weight,” says Colin,

"The digestive system should be given a rest"

but Aaron maintains that the digestive system should be given a rest sometimes, instead of being overloaded with carbs and fat.

“Look, Aaron, I’ve been thinking,” Colin continues,

"Perhaps we could go out to the Deri"

“Perhaps we could both go out tonight to the Deri – what do you think?”

"I'm too young to drink, Col"

Aaron points out that he is too young to drink.

Colin is now becoming rather agitated;  “Put that phone down and look at me when I’m talking to you!

"Give me that phone!"

“No, more than that – give me that phone!”   Aaron shouts to his mother that Colin is treating him like a child.

"It won't make any difference"

Britt says that taking his phone will not make any difference, but Colin is concerned that he is texting someone this early;  he demands that Britt gives him some support,

"Tara, Col"

and meanwhile Aaron gets up and goes back to his room.

Britt looks dejected as she sits on the sofa;

"What am I supposed to say?"

“What am I supposed to say? she asks,

"I hoped you might agree with me"

and Colin had hoped that she would agree with him, in order to show that they are a team.   “He doesn’t see us like that,” she groans,

"It was that business with Eileen!"

and Colin is still convinced that it is all caused by that business with Eileen.

He regards it as all his fault, whereas Britt does not know who or what has caused this;

"I don't know how everything' gone so wrong!"

“To be honest with you, I don’t know how everything’s gone so wrong!”

Jason hurries towards APD

Jason crosses the road to APD and is followed by DJ,

"Can you go to the meeting in Penrhewl?"

who says, “I need a favour – that meeting in Penrhewl – can you go?   I’ll be there, Mathew will be there – and Sioned will play games by flirting with him to make me jealous.”

Jason demands, “What makes you think she wouldn’t flirt with me?

"Of course, no problem at all"

“Just pulling your leg – of course I’ll go, no problem at all.”

Then DJ sees Aaron emerging from the shop with something in his hand;

"Nothing better than a healthy brekfast"

he shouts across, “Nothing better than a healthy breakfast!”

"What would you know about that?"

Aaron wonders what he would know about that.

Kath is still looking at the photograph

At Maes-y-Deri, Kath is still very worried about that photograph;  she hides it when Brynmor comes into the room and presents her with the flyer,

"You and me this Christmas . . ."

advertising the Rhith y Coed Hotel and Spa.   “What do you think?   You and me this Christmas – they’ve just had cancellations –

" . . .would that be something you'd like to do?"

would that be something that you’d like to do?”

"I'd like to send this stuff on a luxury break!"

She gets up and almost trips over one of the boxes;  “Do you know what I’d like to do?” she growls, “Send all this stuff on a luxury break!

"Three lock-ups, Brynmor?

“Three lock-ups, Brynmor – it doesn’t make sense, unless you’ve been married three times, and this is the stuff from them!”

"Of course I have not been married three times"

He protests that of course he has not been married three times;

"So it's just the once, is to?"

“So it’s just the once, is it?” she goes on.   Again he insists that he has never been married, and proposes that he will get rid of all this stuff, as it is not fair on her, and then asks if she will consider the hotel.

Kath storms out

She storms out of the room and slams the door behind her.

"Can you go to Llanarthur by four?"

Anita comes out of APD to ask Jason if he can go to Llanarthur by four o’clock about Mrs Reynolds’ extension.

"If I've finished at Penrhewl by four"

“If I’ve finished at Penrhewl, yes,” he replies, but she was under the impression that Mathew was going there.

"What's the excuse this time?"

Eifion approaches, and Jason wonders, “What was it this time – the alarm didn’t go off, or the car wouldn’t start?

"If it happens again, you're out!"

“If it happens again, you’re out – he can’t even think up a good excuse!”

"Leave him alone, Jason!"

Anita unexpectedly springs to Eifion’s defence;  “Leave him alone – we all have problems in the mornings sometimes.   I’m making a cup of tea – do you want some Bara Brith, Eifion?”

"Why is she being nice, all of a sudden?"

Neither Jason or Eifion can understand this sudden change of attitude on Anita’s part.

Eileen has escaped from Penrhewl

Colin is stacking some stock in the shop when Eileen comes in;  he was not expecting to see her today, but she says that Sioned is meeting with APD in Penrhewl, and she prefers to be in the shop.

"No, I'm going to do my shift"

She tells Colin he might as well take the afternoon off, but he is adamant that he will do his shift.

“Sometimes it’s easier to deal with the worst customers than your own children,” she adds,

"Now it's your turn with Aaron!"

“I’ve been through it with Sioned, and now you with Aaron.”

He insists that Aaron cannot be compared with Sioned;

"She's been in jail twice!"

“She’s been in jail twice – let alone what she did to Ed!”   Eileen is aware that he is going through a hard time, but that is not her fault.

"If we hadn't kissed, Aaron would be OK"

Colin explodes, “That’s where you’re wrong – if we hadn’t kissed each other, Aaron would be OK – he thinks we had an affair!   He doesn’t believe me – doesn’t trust anybody.   That’s why he went to look for solace online.”

"He's found that with his Fascist friends!"

Eileen sneers, “Well, he found that with his Fascist friends!”   Colin mutters that she is simply trying to avoid responsibility –

"No wonder Sioned's like she is!

no wonder Sioned is like she is.

"Don't talk to me like that!"

Eileen takes exception to this;  “Don’t talk to me like that!” she snaps, which he assumes is because she is the boss.

"We're friends, supposedly"

“No, because we are friends, supposedly – and I’m your boss others would have sacked you!” she snarls.

"I'll make it easy for you – I'm resigning!"

“Sack me, then – I don’t care!   No, you know what?   I’ll make it easy for you – I’m resigning,” he shouts, as he takes off his badge and throws it at her.   “We should never have kissed – I should never have let you take advantage!”

He marches out of the shop

and with that he strides out of the shop, much to Eileen’s surprise.

Sioned is waiting for her meeting

Sioned is waiting in the relevant field, and is not at all pleased to see DJ approaching;  “What are you doing here?” she snarls, “Where’s Mam?”

"There was a problem in the shop"

DJ replies that there was a problem in the shop which she had to deal with,

"I was expecting Mathew"

and then she sees Jason, although she was expecting Mathew.

"I was so excited, I wanted to come!"

He rather excessively claims, “The truth is, I was so excited about this project that I asked Mathew if I could come out here – be grateful – we could have sent Eifion!”

She begins explaining her plans

She points out what she envisages, “A shop over here, chalets down there and a café in that direction.

"Hot tubs and a sauna"

Then I want hot tubs and a sauna.”

"That's not on the application"

DJ points out that is not on the application,

"Not yet!"

but she answers, “Not yet!”   Then he raises the health and safety aspect, as they do not want drunk people in hot tubs.

Jason appears rather amused by this, as Sioned puts DJ in his place;  “If I want your opinion, I’ll ask!   You just work on this farm, remember.   I want detailed plans of everything, all right, Jase?”

"I've heard there's quite a bit of opposition"

Jason is rather concerned;  “I’m a bit worried that you’re putting the cart before the horse – I know you want detailed designs for the planning, but I’ve heard there’s quite a bit of opposition.”

She quotes what she calls ‘rule number one in business’;  “To make the customer believe they want something –

Sioned is very confident of winning over the opposition

“once my vision is clear, there won’t be any more opposition!   Why don’t we go into the house to talk about it – easier to do that than in a field full of cows.”

DJ is on the receiving end of a dirty look

She looks disparagingly at DJ

Jason picks his way through the med

as they negotiate the muddy field entrance,

"Who's going to sacked first?"

and Jason comments, “She’s been watching too much Alan Sugar!   Who’s going to be sacked first – you or me?”

"We didn't do your damp-proofing"

Eifion is on the phone to a customer;  “Unfortunately, Mr Harris, we didn’t do your damp-proofing.   Sue us, then if it makes you happy!”

"Now he's trying to blame us!"

He tells Anita, “He brought another company in because they’re cheaper – and now he’s trying to blame us!”

"You look exhausted, Eifion"

She tries to calm him down, promising that she will phone the customer later, and suggests that he should go home as he looks exhausted.

"What's going on, Anita?"

Puzzled, he asks, “What’s going on, Anita?   I’m late for work, I’m rude to customers – I’m not much use to anyone –

"You're being really nice to me"

“and you’re being really nice to me, which is freaking me out!”

"Mathew talked about your nightmares"

Anita reveals that Mathew talked about the nightmares he is having;  “He had no right to do that!” is Eifion’s angry response.

"I can't just say nothing, can I?"

Anita says that she was told not to mention it, but she cannot just say nothing.

“Look at the state of you!” she points out,

"I'm fine, Anita"

but he insists that he is fine.   “No, you’re not – keeping everything inside won’t help, you know,” she continues,

"Wa sit finding Izzy that upset you?"

“Was it finding Izzy like you did that’s upsetting you?”

Eifion does not say anything for some time,

"She's in my head all the time"

but then admits, “She’s in my head all the time – I can’t talk about it to Mathew, because . . .”   Anita insists that Mathew has no more right to grieve than Eifion.

"It's important you talk to someone"

She points out he does not have to talk about it to Mathew;  “But I think it is important that you talk to someone about it.   Grieving is a long process – complex, and painful.

"Don't let it eat you up inside"

“But don’t let it eat you up inside.”

"Resign?"

Britt is furious when she hears the news;  “Resign?”

"I had no choice, after what Eileen sead"

but Colin is adamant that he had no choice, after what Eileen said to him.   “What exactly did she say?

"She was talking about Sioned"

“She was talking about Sioned, not Aaron.”

"Why are you sticking up for Eileen?"

He wonders why she is sticking up for Eileen, when he maintains that is when Aaron’s problems started.

"It's a lot more complicated than that!"

“It’s a lot more complicated than that – and it you know it!” Britt rages, “You have to ask for your job back – we need the money!”   Colin says some things are more important than money, so she answers, “You think about that when we can’t pay the bills or the mortgage.”

"I'll work in the chippy"

Colin suggests that he will work in the chippy, so she will not have to employ anyone else;  “Which means sacking Madge – lovely!” exclaims Britt, but he seems quite adamant that he is not going back to Eileen.

“I want to put things right with Aaron – I’ve lost one child – I don’t intend to lose another!” he emphasises.

"Another pint, Cassie"

In the Deri, Kath orders another pint, and Cassie describes it as a liquid lunch.

She shows the offending photo

“I’m going to go off my head if I don’t show this to someone,” she sighs, showing Cassie the photograph.

"I didn't realise he'd been married"

She did not realise that Brynmor had been married, and the problem is neither did Kath.

"There's only one reason he'd hide that"

“There’s only one reason why he’d want to hide that from me – because he’s still married,” she reasons, “He’s living a double life.”   Cassie regards that as rather a jump, but Kath insists,

"If she's dead, or they divorced . . ."

“If she’s dead, or they’re divorced, he would have told me, wouldn’t he?”

"Why haven't you asked him?"

Cassie enquires why she has not asked him, and she sadly replies, “For the first time in years, I’m happy –

"I don't want to burst the bubble"

“I don’t want to burst the bubble, you see.”   Cassie says that perhaps it is too late.

"Sioned's more determined than ever"

Eileen and DJ are looking across the farmland, and he apologises that Sioned is more determined than ever;  “She’s paying for detailed plans and organising a community meeting, to sell the idea to the villagers.”

Eileen seems to be resigned to the idea, but DJ urges her to talk to Sioned;

"Explain to her that you're the boss"

“Explain to her that you’re the boss.”

"I can't be trusted to talk to anyone today"

Eileen does not think she can be trusted to talk to anyone today;  “Colin is blaming me for Aaron going off the rails – don’t ask!”   DJ is not defending Colin, but, considering what is going on with Aaron,

"Colin's under a lot of strain"

he is under a lot of strain;  he doubts if Colin was trying to upset her.

"Oh – Sioned's back!"

They hear the sound of a car, which means that Sioned is back, and he is sure that Eileen can do this.   “I can’t – you don’t understand, do you?   I don’t have a choice,” she groans,

'i have to lose this place or lose Sioned"

“I either have to lose this place or lose Sioned.”

"I've made Spag Bol"

Colin hopes that Aaron is not still fasting, as he has prepared his favourite meal – Spag Bol.

"I've resigned from the shop"

“Look, Aaron, I resigned from the shop – I don’t see Eileen – we’ve got nothing to do with each other.   I’m so sorry about everything – that I caused all this –

"You're so important to me, Aaron"

“you’re so important to me, Aaron, especially after losing Izzy.”

"Mam will be panicking now!"

Aaron knows this, but says that Colin should not have resigned;  “Especially after Mam bought this place and the chippy – she’ll be panicking now, and that will not do any good.”

Colin is (as so often) perplexed

Colin is again left looking perplexed.

"You made me look a real fool!"

Sioned paces up and down in the farmhouse, waiting for her mother;  “You made me look a real fool today by not turning up!” she snarls,

"When are you going to take this seriously?"

“DJ – a farm hand?   When are you going to take this seriously?”

"Stop bullying your mother, Sioned!"

DJ has also come in and instructs her to stop bullying her mother.

“Don’t talk to me like that – this is between me and Mam!” Sioned rages, but DJ strongly objects to her treating her mother in this way.

"It's all right, DJ"

Despite Eileen’s protests,

"Your mother doesn't want these changes!"

he goes on, “Your mother owns Penrhewl, not you – she doesn’t want these changes, and you know that!   She just went along with it in case she lost you – so treat your mother with respect.   If you don’t, she might pull out of the plans – and you don’t want that, do you?”

She is not used to this sort of opposition

Without a further word, Sioned marches out of the farm, and Eileen is smiling.

Kath asks for an explanation

Kath has taken the plunge and shows Brynmor the photograph she found;

"You went into the lock-up?"

“You went into the lock-up?” he demands, “You had no right!”

"You had no right to hide that from me!"

She argues that he had no right to hide that from her.   “What exactly do you think I’ve hidden from you – a wife?” he goes on.

"What am I supposed to think, Brynmor?"

She wonders what she is supposed to think;  “There’s you and another woman, obviously on your wedding day!”   He explains that is not him,

"I'm not blind, so stop lying!"

but she groans, “I’m not stupid, Brynmor – and do you know what?   I’m not blind, so stop lying.”

"That's my twin"

“That’s my twin,” he announces, something which she does not believe, as he has never spoken of a twin.   “Because . . . I don’t want to talk about it,” Brynmor adds,

"I'm putting this back into the box"

“I’m putting this photo back in the box – and that’s where it will stay.”

"Sorry I went too far, Eileen"

DJ tells Eileen that he is sorry he went too far;  “Saying that you were going to pull out and things.”   She replies that no apology is necessary, and to be honest, it has been nice having someone on her side for a change, sticking up for her.

"You have the patience of a saint"

A friendly hug . . .
“It’s been a while,” she goes on, and he says that he could not stand there and say nothing, describing Eileen as a special woman, with the patience of a saint.

They hug each other,

. . . metamorphoses into a kiss . . .

and this predictably ends with a kiss,

. . . which seems to come as a surprise

something which they both appear to immediately regret.

"I'd better fetch Huwi"

“I’d better fetch Huwi,” she says, “He won’t understand where I am,” and she leaves DJ looking confused.
