Mark delivers an envelope to Garry

At the doorway of number 7, Garry is given a large envelope by Mark;  “I would have posted it through the door, but it needs a signature.   What is it – the dog business?”

"It's the divorce . . ."

Garry replies that it is the divorce, and at that moment,

He looks across at Dani

Dani comes out of the alley, pushing baby Gabriel in his pram and speaking to someone on the phone.

". . . I'm not married any more"

Garry continues, “I’m not married any more.”

"If you want to talk about it, Gar . . ."

Mark invites him, if he wants, to talk about it, but he goes back into the house, closing the door.

"Thank you, Jinx"

At Cysgod y Glyn, Arwen is looking at her birthday present from Jinx;  “They’re good ones – I might borrow them some time, if that’s all right,” he says, and wonders what she was given by her mother.

She is disappointed with her mother's present

Arwen shows him a bracelet, with which she does not appear to be very impressed;  “Boring – the trainers I wanted were probably too expensive,” she moans, “And there were vouchers from Nain and Auntie Nesta.”

"Buy the trainers with the vouchers"

He suggests that she could buy the trainers with them.

"With £20?"

“With £20?” she demands, disparagingly,

"Don't be so ungrateful, Arwen"

and is advised not be so ungrateful.   She will phone her mother tonight to thank her.

She takes her pizzas with her

Arwen picks up the box containing the pizzas;  she is told to enjoy her lunchtime party and to be back by six.

"What?   Six o'clock?"

This does not go down very well with her, and Jinx wishes her, “Happy birthday!”

Gaynor's tablet is vibrating

Hywel is sitting at Llwyncelyn with his laptop when he hears a message alert on Gaynor’s tablet;  as she comes downstairs, he grumbles, “Your tablet is trying to talk to you.”

Hywel is reminiscling

He is looking at photographs of himself with Sheryl and Esther.

"My investment has gone up again"

Gaynor announces that her investment has gone up again, and he sarcastically congratulates her;

"Is the password somewhere safe?"

“Is the password for that crypto account somewhere safe?” he asks.   She tells him not to worry about that, and is now going to Cardiff to do some shopping.

"Have you any cash left?"

“Have you got any cash left?” Hywel demands, and she informs him that she is spending her pension.   “Waste your money, then, without thinking about anyone else!” he snarls.

"I worked very hard for that money"

She points out that she worked very hard for that money and has every right to treat herself and enjoy it.

“It’s a shame you have such a problem with that,” she remarks, as she leaves the house.

He turns off that infernal tablet

The tablet sounds again, so Hywel angrily goes across and turns it off.

"Have you got a pair in stock?"

Jinx has been doing some research on the laptop and is speaking to a footwear shop;  “Size three – have you got a pair in stock?   OK, I’ll come over later – can you keep them on one side for me, please?

"The name is Jinx – just Jinx"

“The name is Jinx.”

A bundle of banknotes

He takes out a tightly rolled bundle of notes from his bag, looks at it and then leaves the flat;

That bag looks rather precarious . . .

as he goes, the bag falls off the edge of the table

. . . and crashes to the floor

and scatters its contents on the floor.   We see that there are a great many other bundles of notes.

Mark does not expect garden tools in the kitchen . . .

At Maes-y-Deri, Kath is doing some vacuuming, as far as is possible with all the boxes, when Mark comes in through the back door and hurts his leg on some garden tools, which had been left in the kitchen.

. . . and injures himself

As he loudly complains, she explains, “The shed’s full.”

He continues moaning, “I can’t move without bumping into Brynmor’s junk – do something!”

"I'm trying, Mark"

When she protests that she is trying, he urges her to try harder;  “Tell him you’ve got OCD or something – you know what?

"He's make a fortune if he sold this stuff online"

“He’d make a fortune if he sold this stuff online.”   She has already tried to persuade him, but Mark wants her to use some imagination.

"Have you seen my motorbikes book?"

They hear Brynmor’s voice, “Have you seen my motorbikes book?”   Kath cannot help him with that, then there is a delivery at the door.

"I'm taking the job lot to Megan's shop!"

Mark informs his mother, “Either he sells this stuff, or I’m taking the job lot to Megan’s shop!   Have you seen my Xbox game?”

Yet another box has arrived

Brynmor comes back in with another box of magazines which the auction house forgot to give him.

"Go and get some more recycling bags, Mark"

Kath asks Mark to go and get some more recycling bags, as she has a lot of stuff to sort out.

Mark gets the message

He takes the hint and leaves the house.

"Don't ever come here to buy chips again!"

Wilko does not have a warm welcome at the chip shop;  “You what?   Garry isn’t involved in stealing dogs!   Don’t ever come here to buy chips again!” Britt shouts at him.

Dani is coming out of the Deri . . .

Dani is just coming out of the Deri

. . . and Britt confronts her

and Britt demands, “What’s this about Garry going to court?   You’re not really going to press this ridiculous charge, are you?”

"He kidnapped my dog, Britt!"

Dani stresses that he kidnapped her dog, and she cannot be expected to forget that.   “He didn’t hurt the dog – it was a moment of weakness – his head is all over the place, thanks to you!” Britt emphasises.

The ever watchful Detective Inspector

The DI stops and listens to this,

"A fine is the last thing Garry needs!"

as Britt shouts, “A fine is the last thing Garry needs!”

“He should have thought about that before taking Tedi,” is the angry reply, “I have to get to the spa – yeah – massage, Jacuzzi.   Celebrating the decree absolute.”   Britt sneers that she is spending Garry’s money already;  “No, it doesn’t come through that quickly, unfortunately – but I will spoil myself –

"I got a good price for the wedding ring"

“I got a good price for the wedding ring!” Dani replies, “The price of gold is not too bad these days.”

"I hope you drown in the Jacuzzi!"

Britt hopes that she drowns in the Jacuzzi, accusing her of having no conscience, then she runs back across the road towards number 7,

Garry is in despair . . .

where Garry is feeling very sorry for himself,

. . . as he recalls happier times

as he looks through pictures of himself and Dani.

"Why didn't you tell me about the court case"

“Why didn’t you tell me about the court case?” she demands,

"There are more important things than Dani's dog"

and he says there are more important things than a fine for stealing Dani’s dog.   He produces the divorce papers;

"This arrived this morning"

“This arrived this morning.”   She reminds him that he has been expecting it, but he says that it is so final.

"Be grateful you're free of Dani!"

“That’s what a divorce is – just be grateful that you’re free of Dani,” Britt growls, “You – Brandon – no-one was good enough for her!

"She's left with everything!"

“She joined this family with nothing – and she’s left with everything.   And do you know where she was going earlier?   To celebrate with the money she got for her wedding ring – yeah –

"Are you happy about that?"

“years of marriage for a facial in a spa!   Are you happy about that,

"Are you going to do something about it?"

“or are you going to do something about it?”   Garry does not say anything.

Kath studies the laptop

Kath gives Brynmor the impression that she is looking at photos on the cruise;  “I can’t help it – do you remember that night we had a midnight swim in the pool?”

"One of the highlights of my life"

He says that is one of the highlights of his life, then she finds another photo of the German couple;

"I wonder if they ever found their towels!"

“I wonder if they ever found their towels!” she laughs.

He regards them as very happy memories, and she seizes the opportunity to suggest,

"What if we created some more happy memories?"

“What if the two of us created more happy memories?   Not now – no,

"We'd have money to go on more trips"

I was thinking if we sold some of this stuff, we’d have money to go on more trips, wouldn’t we?”

He assures her that she does not need to worry about money, and she appreciates that;

"I've found this online marketplace"

“I’ve found this online marketplace, where are some of the money goes to good causes and charities.”

"I'm not very good with computers"

He agrees that they could try it, but is not very good with computers.

"You take a photo and put it on the website"

She insists that it is easy, and all he needs is his phone;  “You take a photo, put it on the website and pick your charity.”

"I think I could manage that"

Brynmor thinks that he could manage that, and is encouraged to give it a try while Kath makes dinner.

"I don't remember having that game"

He picks up one of the items which is lying around and takes a photo of it;  he does not seem to remember having an Xbox game.

Gaynor is back from her shopping trip, and shows off her new coat;

Gaynor has been spending money

“What do you think?   A new young designer from Paris,” she says;

"I've bought you something as well"

he walks away without a word, and she continues, “I’ve bought you something as well, to say sorry.

"It has become a bit of an obsession"

“Look, I don’t want to argue over money – and I am sorry about the crypto business.   You’re right – it has become a bit of an obsession.”

"It's not the money that upsets me, Gaynor"

“It’s not the money that upsets me, Gaynor, but what you said about Esther the other day,” he at length replies.

"We've already been through this, Hywel"

She points out that they have been through this already, and she cannot make her feelings up, because that would not be fair on Esther either.

"Haven't you got a maternal bone in your body?"

“Haven’t you got a maternal bone in your body at all?” he demands, and she is sorry if she is too pragmatic for him, but she lives in the real world.   “A real mother would grieve for her child – not carry on as if she never existed!” Hywel goes on.

"I have grieved, Hywel"

She argues that she has grieved, but may not show it in the same way as he does;  “There you are – ‘have grieved’ –

"For you the grieving process is over"

for you the grieving process is over, isn’t it?” he snarls, “Izzy died two months ago and you’re acting as if nothing has happened!   You wanted to be pragmatic.”

He is overcome with emotion

He turns away and there are tears in his eyes;  “Do you have any idea how long it has been since Meilir died?   Over three years, and I still feel as if it happened yesterday.

"I carry him with me every hour, every minute"

I carry him with me every hour, every minute – can you understand that?”

"I don't know what you want me to say"

Gaynor does not know what he wants her to say;  “No, of course not and there’s my answer,” he sighs, as he goes upstairs.

She is going to drown her sorrows . . .

Gaynor is feeling very depressed as she goes to the kitchen and pours herself a glass of red wine,

 . . . and drowns her new coat instead . . .

in the process of which she manages to spill it down her new coat.

. . . which she finds very upsetting

She is in tears as she tries to clean it off.

"Vintage male chastity device"

Brynmor seems to be getting into the swing of this online selling, which he describes to Mark as a lot of fun.   “It’s surprising what you find too – ‘vintage male chastity device’,” he adds.

"He's put a lot of items on the marketplace"

Kath advises that Brynmor has put a lot of items on the marketplace and the money is going to a motorbikes charity.

Mark is pleased to hear this,

"It was in that box over there"

but then Brynmor discovers that he has sold something already, and for a good price;  he shows Kath on the laptop, and she did not realise that he had games like that.   “It was in that box over there,” he explains,

"That's my game!"

and Mark discovers that it is his game that has been sold.

Brynmor points out that he has accepted an offer for it now,

"If I pull out, I shall get a one star rating"

and if he pulls out, he will get a one-star rating.   “I don’t care about your star ratings –

"Keep your hands off my stuff"

“just keep your hands off my stuff, do you hear?” Mark rages.

Arwen is waiting for Jinx

Jinx returns to Cysgod y Glyn and is surprised to find that Arwen is already there;  “Jane was feeling ill, so everyone went home,” she says.

"Does that belong to you?"

Pointing at the money on the floor, she asks if it belongs to Jinx, and he changes the subject, saying that he has bought the trainers she wanted.

"Did you steal it?"

“Did you steal it?   Is that how you could afford those?” she goes on,

"No, I didn't steal it"

and he makes makes it quite clear that he did not steal the money;  Taid [grandfather] gave it to him.

“Taid Caernafon?   Was he rich?   How much is there?” Arwen demands,

"Does Mam know?"

and follows this up with, “Does Mam know?”

"No – and she doesn't need to"

He replies that she does not know and does not need to know.   “She’ll be really angry that you haven’t told her,” Arwen predicts, so he warns her not to say a word, or he will tell her mother what she said about the bracelet.

"You'll never guess what I found!"

As soon as he goes out of the room, she closes the door and makes a phone call to Ffion.   “Hiya, Mam – thank you, it was lovely.  You’ll never guess what I found!”

"Is Britt Monk causing problems?"

Wilko calls on Dani with a few more questions;  “I happened to overhear Britt Monk this morning – is she causing problems for you with the charges?”

"I'm not scared of Britt"

Dani’s reply is that she is not scared of Britt, and the DI thinks that he is in her bad books as well;  “I can’t buy chips there any more.”   Dani laughs that half the village is in that position, so he should not worry.

Garry creeps in

Garry appears in the doorway and she demands what he wants;  she would prefer that the DI stays there.

"I haven't changed my mind, Garry"

“Before you ask, I haven’t changed my mind about the charge, she tells Garry.

"I'm going to plead guilty"

He replies that he was not going to ask, but advises, “I’m going to plead guilty.”

"Taking responsibility – at last?"

She is surprised that he is taking responsibility – there is a first time for everything.   Wilko recommends that Garry should go to the station to confess, and leaves the flat.

"I go the decree absolute this morning"

“I got the decree absolute this morning,” Garry continues, and she regards it as not before time.   “Britt told me about the ring – didn’t it mean anything to you?   Our relationship – our marriage?”

"There's nothing else to say"

She tells him not to go there;  “There’s nothing else to say.”

Garry removes his wedding ring . . .

He takes off his wedding ring and throws it down on the table in front of her,

. . . and walks out of the flat

then walks out of the flat without another word.

"Calm down, Ffion"

As a car drives down the street outside Cysgod y Glyn, Jinx is standing in the doorway, urging Ffion to calm down;

"Listen – I was going to tell you"

“Listen, I’m sorry – I was going to tell you – because I felt angry that you only got an old car.

"£50,000 in all"

Erm, £50,000 in all – I told Arwen not to tell you, so we could discuss it when you get back.   When will that be, Ffion?”   She obviously puts the phone down on him.

He hears a clattering sound

He hears a clattering sound nearby, but cannot see anything amiss, so goes back into the house.

A masked figure checks that the coast is clear . . .

A little way along the street, someone is peering out;

. . . hurries across the road . . .

a figure dressed in black, and wearing a hideous Hallowe’en mask, runs from his hiding place

. . . heading for number 7

across the road towards number 7
