Gaynor has some stresses at school

Gaynor is preparing to go to school and is stressed because a group of year 9 parents have decided to start a petition, complaining about the way the school offers GCSE subjects.   

"You can sort them out, Gaynor"

Hywel is sure that she can sort them out, but she could do without the hassle.   

She refuses the offer of a cup of tea, but will need something stronger tonight;  

"Mathew invited us for a drink with him and Izzy"

then Hywel breaks the news that Mathew phoned earlier to ask if they would like to have a drink with him and Izzy in the Deri later.   

She is not pleased about that

Gaynor does not like the sound of that, and he goes on, “I know this Izzy business is getting you down – 

"The mature thing to do is accept"

“but if she wants to extend an olive branch, the mature thing to do is accept.”

“Mature?   Don’t get your hopes up – this is Izzy we’re talking about,” she replies, and leaves the house.

"I'd stick with your current supplier"

Dylan is at the Deri flat and has been studying the brochure from one of Dani’s prospective suppliers;  “From what I can see, I’d stick with your current supplier,” he says.   

"But this one is cheaper"

Dani points out this one is cheaper, but he wonders how long that will last, as they do not have a track record as a company.   She is glad to have someone else’s opinion, 

"I've got to go now"

and he rather abruptly decides to leave, 

Dani thinks he is up to no good

which causes her to suspect that he is up to something,

Then Tyler comes in, wondering why Dylan was in such a hurry;  

"I thought things were good between you"

he was under the impression that things were good between the two of them.   

"Something's not right"

“So did I,” says Dani, “But something’s not right.”   

"Living with Garry has made you suspicious"

He expects that she is too suspicious after living with Garry, but she insists that Dylan is acting oddly.

“Mam used to say ask no questions and you won’t get disappointed,” he recalls, 

"No-one in their right mind listens to her!"

but Dani reminds him that no one in their right mind listens to her.

"Dad and Guto have gone to town"

Siôn has gone to number 10 to see Tesni;  she tells him that her father and Guto have gone to town to buy anti-mosquito gel.   “Mosquitoes love Guto,” she adds.

"I shouldn't have looked at your phone"

The reason for Siôn’s visit is to apologise;  “I shouldn’t have looked at your phone – and I know you think I’m judging you.”   

"You were judging me"

She points out that he was, and he continues, “I shouldn’t have doubted you like that, not after you gave me your word.”

Tesni assures him that all that stuff is behind her, and he acknowledges that he was worried about the shop’s image – 

"Not enough protection for . . ."

but also worried about her.   “I have trouble with the whole idea of men paying to use young girls – it’s obvious there is not enough protection in place for . . .”

"Sex workers?"

Tesni finishes the sentence for him, “Sex workers?”   He does not know why he has so much trouble thinking about it, and stresses that it is up to her what she wants to do with her life, but points out that she is an intelligent young girl.

"There are so many opportunities out there"

“There are so many opportunities out there for someone like you – but for now I’d like you to consider coming back to work in the shop,” he says, “You don’t have to decide now – just think about it and phone me sometime.   I just wanted to say I’m sorry.”   

Tesni does not know what to make of him

Tesni has been looking rather uncomfortable during this conversation.

"The house is like an outdoor pursuits shop"

At Penrhewl, Jaclyn says that her house is like an outdoor pursuits shop, with all the shoes and rucksacks;  Eileen predicts that she is going to miss them.   “Ger is really nervous although he’s pretending not to be,” Jaclyn goes on, 

John Deri Fawr is back on the scene

then someone walks in through the door – it is John Deri Fawr.

Both of them get a shock, and Eileen demands, “What are you doing here?”   

"Get out, now!"

Jaclyn orders him to get out.   He maintains that he just wants a word, as he is so mixed up in his head – 

"I just want to understand what happened"

he just wants to understand what happened.   

Eileen and Jaclyn look suspiciously at each other as he explains, “Things have been difficult, you know – not remembering or understanding anything.   

"The hospital hope my memory will come back"

“The hospital hope that my memory will come back with time and care.”

This comes as somewhat of a relief to Jaclyn, but his next words shatter that illusion;  

"Especially you hitting me!"

“But they’re wrong – because I remember everything – especially you hitting me.   I remember that very clearly.”   Jaclyn protests that he was attacking Eileen, but he laughs at the suggestion.   

"You're lucky we didn't call the police"

Eileen stresses that he is lucky they have not called the police, because he was forcing himself on her.

"I'm going to report you for trying to kill me!"

“Well, from where I’m standing, it’s up to you to prove that in court – because I’m going to report you for trying to kill me!” he snarls.

Mathew finds a shortage of food in the fridge

Mathew and Izzy return to the flat, where they discover that there is no cheese in the fridge;  “You finished it last night – with all the chutney and crackers,” she tells him,

"Lucky we're going out for food tonight"

so he decides they need to go food shopping, and it is lucky that they are going out for food tonight.

“What?   You said it was one drink!” she protests, 

"Phone Hywel and tell him I'm not well"

“Phone Hywel and tell him I’m not well.”   

"We're going to be mature about this, Izzy!"

Mathew is adamant that they are going to be mature about this, and it is too late to change the plans now.

"Come on, hurry up!"

“Have a shower and wear something smart – the fridge is empty anyway, and you never know, Hywel might pay!” he says, urging her to hurry up.

"I got all the signals from you"

John Deri Fawr has it all worked out;  “There are witnesses who will say you had lunch with me – flirted with me.   I got all the signals from you – people know you’re against my plans for Deri Fawr.”   

"Sioned wouldn't testify against me!"

Eileen is quite sure that Sioned would not testify against her mother, 

"You tried to take advantage of me!"

but he makes it crystal clear that Eifion would.   “You see, now that I remember all the details, the story is clear – you invited me over for dinner – you tried to get me drunk and take advantage of me, to get me to change my mind about the panels.   But I refused – because I’m still grieving for my dear wife, Catherine.   And that’s when you lost your temper and hit me!”

"No-one will believe you"

Jaclyn maintains that no-one will believe him;  “That’s the risk, isn’t it?” he says, 

"The risk I'm willing to take"

“The risk I’m willing to take!   The question is, are you?   You know what?   I’m starting to see a very happy future for me and the farm – solar panels, being able to do whatever I want with the land – 

"To ask all kinds of favours from you!"

“and on top of that, I will be able to call in at Penrhewl to ask all kinds of favours from you – lovely!   

"I'll leave the decision up to you"

“I’ll leave the decision up to you, Eileen.”

Eileen is now very worried

He walks out of the farmhouse and both Eileen and Jaclyn are very troubled.

"Hope the fresh air is not making you dizzy"

Rhys is strolling along the street, followed by Dylan, hoping the fresh air is not making him feel dizzy;  “Don’t forget, I want you to clear up your mess in the kitchen, OK?” he adds.   

Rhys is told to clear up the kitchen

As Rhys is about to go into the house, Dani comes out of the Deri.

"Is everything OK?"

“Is everything OK?” she asks Dylan, “I wasn’t talking about Rhys – the other night, and this morning – I thought we were good, but you’re acting like you don’t want to be in the same room as me.   It’s not fair.”

"We can't talk here"

He insists they cannot talk there, in the street, but she just wants to know where she stands, and he apologises.   “So what are you doing later?” she asks, 

"Come over later"

“Come over, after I sort out the kids – see you later.”   

He does not look particularly keen

He does not look entirely happy.

Now Tesni is at Y Felin 

Now Tesni has gone round to Y Felin, and says that their house is like a circus, with her father and Guto leaving tomorrow;  they will just be having a low-key dinner tonight.   “Thank you for the offer of coming back to work.”   

"I wanted to discuss something else with you"

Siôn was very glad when she phoned with the good news, but also wanted to discuss something else with her.

He explains, “For a couple of years now, I’ve been donating to various charities and schemes that support education for young people.   I’ve decided to do something more direct this year, and to help you.”

Tesni does not know what he is getting at

She does not understand what he means, 

"I want to help you financially"

and he spells it out, “I want to help you financially to follow an educational course.”   

"Accepting money from old men"

Her response is that she thought he had a problem with her accepting money from old men, and Siôn points out that this would be money to help her.

"I don't want to put any pressure on you"

“I don’t want to put any pressure on you – and as I said, there are so many opportunities out there.   I want to help you take advantage of them – you might already have an idea about what you’d like to do.”   

"I can't accept your money, Siôn"

She is very reluctant to take his money, so he tells her to regard it as a loan.

“Sorry, I’m moving too quickly, I know – 

"Why don't we have a look on the laptop?"

“why don’t we have a look at what’s out there together?”   He will go and fetch the laptop.

"How have we landed in this mess"

“How have we landed in this mess?” demands Eileen, 

"It's not our fault"

and Jaclyn’s reply is that it is not their fault.   “Did you hear him?   

"What kind of favours will he want?"

“What kind of favours will he want, the swine?   I know we should have told the police straightaway,” Eileen worries.

Jaclyn reminds her that it will be their word against his, 

"They're bound to ask why we didn't report it"

and Eileen frets, “They’re bound  to ask why we didn’t report it at the time.   What if Anita says she was cooking happily with us here, after we hit a man so hard on head that he ended up in hospital?   And then I gave Anita the frying pan as a present!”

"You did what?"

This comes as a surprise to Jaclyn, but she still insists that it will not come to a court case and that they will think of something;  “Look, I recognise a bad man when I see one, and there's no doubt about him!   

"We'll find a way"

“We’ll find a way.”

Mathew wants a steak . . .

In the Deri, Mathew declares there is no point in looking at the menu;  “Because I know exactly what I want – a steak – and a big one, too!”   

. . . and so will Hywel 

Hywel decides that he will join Mathew, maintaining there is nothing better than a good steak.

Izzy has not finished perusing the menu, 

"I had a sandwich before coming out"

and Gaynor says that she had a sandwich before coming out.   

Hywel is complimentary about APD

“I enjoyed that item in the Western Post about APD,” says Hywel, “You’ve done a lot of good work there.”   

"The hard work Izzy has done"

Mathew ascribes a lot of it to the hard work Izzy has done in the admin department.

"That new bloke you've got is good"

Hywel says it is obvious that the place needed some young blood;  “And that new bloke you’ve got is good as well.”   

"What new bloke?"

Izzy does not know who he is talking about, 

"Can you order for me, Hywel?"

and Gaynor tries to change the subject by suggesting that Hywel should order for her.

This is unsuccessful, as Hywel keeps on praising the work of this employee, so Gaynor interrupts to say that she will have the curry.   

"We haven't done much work at Llwyncelyn recently"

Mathew explains that they have not done much work at Llwyncelyn recently, and now Gaynor suggests lasagne, 

"The lasagne here is lovely!"

as they do a lovely one in the Deri.

Hywel says that he is talking about the damp in the bedroom;  

"Replastering the bedroom – Gaynor organised it"

“He came over and hacked off the plaster, then replastered – Gaynor organised it.”   

There are not any new workers at APD

He is informed that they do not have any new workers, 

Hywel looks at Gaynor . . .

so turns angrily to Gaynor, 

. . . who admits another company did it

who is forced to admit that she did not contact APD, but gave the work to another company.

Izzy realises that her mother did this because of her;  “Sorry, I can’t do this!” she says, and is about to walk out of the pub, as her mother accuses her of overreacting.   

"Pity we have to spend the night with a child like you!"

“Math persuaded me to come here tonight, because it was the mature thing to do – pity we have to spend the night with a child like you!”   Mathew follows her out of the door.

"That was a stupid thing to do, wasn't it?"

Hywel shakes his head;  “That was a stupid thing to do, wasn’t it?”

"I always had an interest in textiles and art"

Looking at the courses on the laptop, Tesni suggests, “Textiles?   I’ve always had an interest in textiles and art – I enjoyed it at GCSE, but I didn’t carry on with it at A-level.”   Siôn encourages her that it is never too late to change direction.

She protests that she has written down so many things now,

"It proves how enthusiastic you are"

and he says that proves how enthusiastic she is;  “If I were you, I’d take another look at the literature courses – you obviously have an interest in the field.”

Anita finds Tesni is there

Anita comes home and is surprised to find Tesni there;  she explains they are looking at different courses, and has lost track of time, so she had better go.   Anita tells her to wish Gerwyn and Guto good luck with their journey tomorrow, 

"Thanks for the offer, Siôn"

and Tesni thanks Siôn for his offer.   They will talk about it in the shop tomorrow.

"Offer?   What offer?"

Anita wants to know what this is about an offer;  

"To help with college fees and so on"

“I’ve offered to help with college fees and so on,” he replies.   She appears to be outraged, 

"You haven't got a silly crush on the girl?"

and hopes that he has not developed a silly crush on the girl, which he vehemently denies.

“You’ve changed since she's been around the place,” Anita continues, “And you know how you can be sometimes.”   He points out that he is helping the girl with her education, 

"I'm old enough to be her father"

and is old enough to be her father – something which Anita knows very well, 

"You should remember that, Siôn!"

and urges him to keep in mind.

"Sorry about the steak, Math"

Back in the shop flat, Izzy apologises for the lack of steak, but Mathew says that he prefers beans on toast.   She will go shopping tomorrow, 

"I just can't believe Gaynor!"

as Mathew goes on, “I just can’t believe that Gaynor gave the job to someone else out of spite.”   

"That's how things work in Mam's world!"

Izzy informs him that is how things work in her mothers world, and when he suggests trying again another time, 

"She's not worth it, Math!"

she growls, “I wouldn’t bother, Math!   She’s not worth it.”

"You were the one who spoiled the night"

At Llwyncelyn, Hywel reminds Gaynor that he was not the one who spoiled the night, 

"Like some kind of pariah"

and she wonders how long he will treat her as some kind of pariah.   

Gaynor takes her wine with her

She goes to sit down and on the sofa, carrying her bottle of wine and glass, 

"You've got a problem, Gaynor"

and Hywel says, “If you can’t see that you’ve been childish, you’ve got a problem!”   

"And you're Mr Perfect!"

She scathingly refers to him as Mr Perfect, as she pours another glass;  “Haven’t you had enough?” he demands, “There’s no point talking to you – you’ve had too much to drink.”

“Oh, I’m an alcoholic now, am I?   As well as being the worst mother of the century!” she asks, 

"When was the last time you didn't have a drink"

and he wonders when was the last night she did not have a drink.   

Gaynor takes another swig

He goes upstairs, and she drinks more of her wine.

"I owe you an apology, Dani"

Up in the Deri flat, Dylan admits that Dani is right;  “I owe you an apology,” 

"I would prefer an explanation"

but she would prefer an explanation.   “I wanted you to stay last week – I usually find things like this easy.”   Dani smiles and can well believe that.

"I'm not a nice person, Dani"

“But it’s different this time, with you,” he alleges, ‘I’m the problem – I’m not a very nice person, and you’ve got a chance to start again – with Garry.”

"I don't want Garry!"

She makes it very clear that she does not want Garry;  “Dylan, whatever you’ve done in the past, whatever’s happened, 

"That's exactly what it is – in the past!"

“that’s exactly what it is – in the past.”

"The past has a way of raising its ugly head"

He replies that sometimes the past has a way of raising its ugly head, but that does not matter to Dani, 

Dani's 'come hither' look

who invites him to accompany her to the bedroom, but he looks somewhat reluctant.
