Hywel and Gaynor arrive home

Hywel and Gaynor return home and find the scene of devastation at Llwyncelyn;  they cannot believe it, 

"Oh, no – not again!"

and Gaynor gasps, “Oh, no – not again!   What’s that smell?”   

"That's petrol!"

He identifies it as petrol, and she panics that there is someone there.   

"The back door hasn't been forced"

He finds that the back door is undamaged.   “This place is soaked!” she exclaims, and Hywel goes to check upstairs, with Gaynor urging him to be careful.

Rhys has been 'binge drinking' again

Dylan finds a half-empty bottle and a large number of cans on the table;  

"I can't get rid of the smell"

Rhys complains, “I can't get rid of the smell!”   He tells Dylan that he did not get much sleep and is sorry for putting him in this position.   Dylan answers, “You would do the same for me.”

"I don't know what came over me"

“I can’t . . . I don’t know what came over me,” Rhys groans, and Dylan appreciates that things got too much for him.   “I feel so ashamed,” he continues, and then there is a knock on the door.   

"If it's for me, I'm not at home!"

“If it’s for me, I’m not at home!” says Rhys.

He escapes upstairs

It is in fact Megan, who wants to come in and speak to Dylan, so Rhys disappears upstairs very quickly.   “Someone’s left some boxes outside the shop and they’re too heavy for me to carry,” she says, 

"Right, Megan I'll go over there now"

and Dylan will go over there straightaway.   

"Is everything all right?"

Then she notices the large amount of cans on the table and remarks that someone had a late night.   “Is everything all right,” she asks, 

"Something is worrying you"

“I know you well enough to know something is worrying you.”   He however suggests that they go to the shop.

Gaynor finds that nothing has been taken . . . 

At Llwyncelyn, Gaynor has been sifting through the damaged items and has discovered that nothing is missing;  

. . . neither has anything upstairs

neither has anything been taken from upstairs.   “I don’t think they wanted to steal anything,” Hywel suggests, so Gaynor wants to know whether they intended to set fire to the place, and destroy it.

“Perhaps someone saw them – 

"Perhaps they wanted to scare us"

“or perhaps they wanted to scare us,” he goes on, and Gaynor confirms that they have certainly managed to do that.   

"Angharad's behind this!"

She is quite sure than Angharad is behind this.   Hywel has reached another conclusion;  “Angharad’s in hospital – [since 3 March]

"Izzy did it – and I'm going to sort it out!"

“Izzy did this – and I’m going to sort it out!”   He rushes from the house, ignoring Gaynor’s protests.

"I should have told Kath the truth from the start"

Brynmor is looking anxiously at his phone, and Cassie wonders what good that is going to do.   “I should have told Kath the truth from the start,” he realises, and is told to phone her, as perhaps she has come to her senses by now.

"I phone her last night and this morning"

“I have – last night and this morning – she’s not answering,” he sighs, so Cassie suggests that he shoud go to see her;  he laughs, “She wouldn’t open the door!”

“Well, you have to do something, if you don’t want to lose her,” is Cassie’s advice.   Brynmor does not know what he can do, 

"I've made a real mess of things"

as he has made a real mess of things.   “Anything’s better than sitting, looking that phone,” she tells him, 

"Why don't we go for a walk?"

“Why don’t we go for a walk?   That must be better than sitting here, moping,” 

Brynmor puts on his jacket . . .

and he reluctantly agrees, putting on his jacket 

. . . and agin checks his phone

and still looking at his phone.

Siôn's mediocre efforts at window cleaning

Siôn is not making a very good job of cleaning the windows at the bookshop;  

He looks at Tesni inside the shop

he sees Tesni inside and smiles.   

"Shall I put the kettle on?"

“Shall I put the kettle on?” she enquires, “I’ve got sandwiches today – we could have lunch together.”

"I was thinking of going to the park"

He says that he was thinking of going to the park for some fresh air, and she will come with him – they can have a picnic;  

Siôn looks anxious

he appears anxious.

Kath approaches along the road and comments, “Too tight to pay Mark to clean your windows?”   He looks rather uneasy, 

"You wouldn't recognise a joke if it bit you on the bum, John!"

and she goes on, “You wouldn’t recognise a joke if it bit you on the bum, John!”

As she goes into the shop, Siôn asks if she is looking for a book for herself or Brynmor;  

"We're not together any more"

“Brynmor and I are not together any more,” she announces, and he is sorry to hear that.

Izzy is working on APD's accounts . . .

In the shop flat, Izzy is working on the laptop when Hywel bursts in, 

. . . when Hywel rushes in, shouting at her

exclaiming, “I know you’re angry, but I didn’t think you’d go this far!   Don’t play the innocent!”   

"What are you talking about, Siôn?"

She has no idea what he is talking about, 

"Llwyncelyn's been doused in petrol!"

but he continues to rant, “So you can’t explain why Llwyncelyn’s been doused in petrol!”

"I haven't been near the place!"

She is astonished to hear this, and insists that she has been nowhere near the place;  “Do you really think I’d . . . do you realise how bonkers this sounds?”   He wonders why she was scared when he walked in, 

"You walked in here like a madman!"

and she answers, “You walked in like a madman – you don’t believe me – Mam’s sent you!”

"If it was you, God help you!"

He declares, “I’m going to find out who did this – and if it was you, God help you!” then the storms out again.

"Dani, it's me again"

Dylan is trying to contact Dani by phone:  “Dani, it’s me again – listen, I don’t know how many messages I’ve left.   I just want you to call me back so I can explain – please.”

"What did Megan want?"

Rhys comes downstairs again, asking what Megan wanted, and is told that she wanted a hand to move some boxes.   “You were there for ages,” Rhys points out, 

"You know how she goes on"

and Dylan reminds him how Megan goes on, when she gets started, and you cannot stop her.   Now he has something he needs to sort out, 

"You go – I'll be fine"

and Rhys says that he will be fine.

He can still smell the petrol on his hands . . .

Rhys can still smell the petrol on his hands 

. . . and tries to remove it

and frantically washes them again.

"I was looking forward to taking you"

In the Deri flat, Dani is folding the washing when Dylan appears;  “I’m so sorry, Dan – you know I was looking forward to taking you for our baby’s scan.   Is everything all right?”

"If you wanted to know, you would have been there!"

“If you wanted to know, you would have been there!” she growls, “But you were obviously too busy.”   He knows that he has let her down and that she is upset;  he knows that it was could not have been nice going on her own.   

"Garry came with me – he was a lot of help"

“I didn’t – Garry came with me – he offered, just like that, and was a lot of help.”

Dylan tries unsuccessfully to hide his disappointment;  

"But I didn't have a choice, Dani"

he insists that he did not have a choice.   “Oh, there is always a choice, Dylan, but you chose not to come,” she insists, and when he says there was a reason, 

"I don't care – I don't want to know!"

she snaps, “I don’t care – I don’t want to know!”

Hywel finds Megan at Llwyncelyn 

When Hywel returns from his fruitless visit to Izzy, he finds Megan at the house, and tells her that they are rather busy at the moment.   

"Rhys was responsible!"

“Megan’s just told me who was responsible,” Gaynor informs him, “Rhys.”   

"You must be mistaken, Megan"

Of course Hywel is not willing to believe that.

"Rhys did it – and Dylan saw him do it"

Megan explains, “I’m afraid it’s true – Dylan told me.   Rhys did it – Dylan saw him do it.”   

"This is revenge on me!"

Hywel realises that this is revenge on him and is determined to go round immediately and confront Rhys, but Gaynor urges him to wait.

"If Dylan hadn't stopped him . . ."

“You know Rhys has been feeling depressed lately – things have obviously got worse.   If Dylan hadn’t stopped him setting the place on fire, who knows what might have happened?”   

This makes Hywel stop and think

This makes Hywel stop and think.

"He would have burned the place to the ground"

“I thought you should be told,” say Megan, and Hywel is incredulous that, if Dylan have not stopped him, Rhys would have burned the place to the ground and perhaps . . .   Megan believes that was his intention at the time;  

"He's been having thoughts of ending his life"

“It seems he’s been having very dark thoughts of ending his life.”

"Why would Dylan tell you and not me?"

“With all due respect, Megan, why would Dylan tell you and not me?” Hywel wants to know.   Megan replies that he felt he needed to tell someone, 

"We weren't here, were we?"

and Gaynor reminds him that they have not been there;  most importantly, Rhys is all right.

"He isn't all right – he just tried to . . ."

“He isn’t all right – he just tried to . . .” Hywel groans, and Megan hopes that she did the right thing;  they thank her for letting them know.

"I didn't try hard enough to talk to him"

“I know he felt low – but I didn’t try hard enough to talk to him.   I can still show him that I love him,” Hywel says.   

"But what I said to Izzy . . ."

Gaynor will sort things out with Izzy and tells him not to worry about that.

"Why are you still here?"

Dani finds that Dylan is still hanging around the Deri flat;  

"I'm here to explain, Dani"

“I’m here to explain,” he informs her, “Listen – the reason I didn’t . . .” he begins, but she stops him, 

"Look, I can't depend on you"

adamant that she cannot depend on him, and from now on she will not be doing that.

Dylan tries again;  “Rhys was in a bad place – he needed me, OK?   

"Rhys could have died, Dan!"

“He could have died, Dan!   I’m sorry, he was about to do something stupid, something dangerous.   He was in a state – he was talking about getting his own back on Hywel.   I followed him to Llwyncelyn, and he had a can of petrol – 

"I broke in and stopped him"

“I broke in through the front door and stopped him just in time.   If I hadn’t, who knows what might have happened!   OK?”

"You could have been hurt!"

Dani is stunned by this news, agreeing that what he did was amazing, but pointing out that he could have been hurt;  “Anything could have happened to you!”   

"I'm fine, Dani"

He points to the cut on his hand, from the broken glass, but insists that he is fine.

Now she is apologetic

Now it is Dani’s turn to say that she is sorry;  “I should have guessed something was wrong, otherwise you wouldn’t have missed the scan.   It went OK – do you want to see a picture?”   

"Is he like his father?"

Of course he does, and asks if the baby is like his father.   

"No – the baby is going to be gorgeous!"

“Oh, no – the baby is going to be gorgeous!” Dani replies.

Siôn recommends a book

As Kath browses in the bookshop, Siôn recommends various books.   

"What – are you trying to rub it in?"

She looks at one and dismisses it, “This is a romance – what are you trying to do – rub it it in?   There isn’t much here for me.”   

With that she leaves the shop

He does not want to see her leave the shop, but she does, and he is left alone with Tesni.   

Siôn pretends to be busy

When she comes downstairs with her sandwiches, he pretends that he has an important task to do on the laptop;  

"I'll be a while – you go"

“There’s something I need to finish –  I’ll be a while – you go.”   

When she does go . . .

As soon as she has gone, 

. . . he looks worried

he closes the laptop and looks very worried.

Brynmor grabs a bunch of flowers

Out on their stroll Cassie and Brynmor happen to be approaching the shop as Kath comes out;  Brynmor runs towards her, grabbing a bunch of flowers from the shop display.   “Kath, please, we have to talk – you mean so much to me.”

"And that's wh"y you're stealing cheap flowers for me?"

“And that’s why you’re stealing cheap flowers for me?” she sneers.   He insists they cannot carry on like this, and she agrees, “No, you’re right there,” and turns to walk away.   

Kath walks away

Cassie urges her to stop and give him another chance.

"With someone who doesn't trust me"

“I don’t want anything to do with someone who doesn’t trust me – who just thinks I want his money,” she replies, 

Brynmor sadly replaces the flowers

as Brynmor puts back the flowers.   “That’s exactly how I feel – I’m not messing.”

“I hope not,” snarls Cassie, “If you want him to suffer before taking him back, you’ll lose him for ever!   I’ll tell you this – he’s a good catch!   Not because of the money – 

"He's a nice man"

“he’s a nice man,” and, so saying, she walks away.

They look at each other . . . 

Kath and Brynmor look at each other, 

. . . and Kath walks away

before Kath continues along the street.

"Dad – what are you doing here?"

Hywel arrives at his house, and Rhys is not pleased to see him;  “What are you doing here?”   

"I know everything – but I'm not angry"

His father reveals that he knows everything and is not angry with him, but just wants to talk.   Rhys’ automatic response is to flee upstairs, 

Hywel follows him upstairs

with his father following him.

Gaynor tells Izzy what has happened

Gaynor informs Izzy of what has happened, and Izzy is concerned about Rhys;  “He has been depressed for quite a while,” her mother says, 

"We haven't seen much of him lately"

but Izzy has not seen much of him lately, and neither has Mathew;  they are no longer close friends.

"Perhaps Mathew could talk to him"

Gaynor suggest that Mathew could talk to him;  it might help him to talk to someone the same age.   Then she comes to the ticklish subject of what Hywel said earlier;  

"I'm here for you, if you ever need me"

“I know we don’t always get along too well, but if you ever felt fragile, you would tell me?   I just want you to know I’m here for you, if you ever need me.”

"What – like every other time?"

“What – like every other time?” Izzy exclaims, and Gaynor asks her to speak to Mathew, 

"We should be concentrating on Rhys now"

as as they should be concentrating on Rhys now.

"It's probably an idea if you come back later"

Dylan thinks that it would be a good idea for Hywel to come back later, and he says, “I did try to talk to him, you know – that time when you said something was wrong.”

Dylan reminds him that nothing happened that cannot be sorted, which is what is important.   

"I won't forget this, Dylan"

Hywel appreciates that it could have been much worse, and thanks Dylan for his intervention.   “I won’t forget this, Dylan – if you ever need anything, just ask.”

Now the coast is clear, Rhys reappears . . .

As soon as his father has left, Rhys comes back downstairs 

. . . but checks his father has really gone

and checks that he has really gone;  “Megan must have told him – I’m sorry,” says Dylan, “She realised something was wrong.”

"So you just blabbed it to her?"

“So you just blabbed it all to her?” Rhys demands, and Dylan says that he needed advice, and did not know that she would tell Hywel.   

"Now Izzy is asking how I am"

Rhys receives a text from Izzy, asking how he is.   “Great!   Thanks, Dyl,” he growls, 

"Dani knows as well"

and is even more put out when he learns that Dani has been told as well.

"I feel bad enough as it is!"

“How could you?   I feel bad enough as it is, without the village knowing!”   Dylan maintains that it is a good thing Hywel found out, 

"He's part of the problem!"

but Rhys shouts, “He’s part of the problem – and you know that!”

"Until you two sort things out!"

Dylan finally loses his temper, and yells, “Until you and him sort things out between you, you won’t move on, will you?   

"I can't sort things out for you!

“I can’t sort out things for you!”   

Dylan starts tidying up

He starts clearing up the empty cans from the table 

Rhys remains silent

as Rhys stands in silence.
