Mark is chatting to Andrea |
When Mark returns to Maes-y-Deri, he is speaking on the phone to Andrea, allegedly in Singapore; “What’s the weather like today then? Send me a photo.” Then he announces to his mother that he has found a way to discover the truth about Brynmor.
![]() |
He has evidence for his mother . . . |
He holds out an envelope from the bank, addressed to Brynmor; “Is that his bank statement?” Kath asks nervously, and Mark points out that she wants to find out whether he is dodgy.
![]() |
. . . but she is dubious about opening the letter |
“I’m not sure,” she continues. “You open it, then.” Mark wastes no time in doing so.
![]() |
"Isn't Ifan with you?" |
Kelly is sitting on the stairs in Bryntirion when Jason comes in; she thought he was bringing Ifan over with him,
![]() |
"Sara won't let him come over" |
but he says, “Sara’s not willing for him to come over if you’re here.”
![]() |
"Now I'm a criminal – and a risk to children" |
“So now I’m a criminal – and a risk to children,” she sighs, and goes upstairs.
![]() |
"Sara, are you willing to reconsider?" |
Jason takes out his phone and speaks to Sara, asking her if she will reconsider.

Dousing everything with petrol is the next stage |
At Llwyncelyn, Rhys is splashing petrol around the place when there is a banging at the door,
![]() |
"Rhys, are you in there?" |
and Dylan can be heard shouting.
![]() |
He smashes a pane of glass to open the door |
He breaks the glass and opens the door,
![]() |
The shocking sight that greets him |
then is confronted by Rhys, who is still pouring out the petrol.
![]() |
"Whoa – what are you doing?" |
“Whoa – what are you doing?” Dylan shouts,
![]() |
"My father didn't even want me!" |
and Rhys replies that his father did not even want him, and has no idea how to be a father.
He flings down the can, saying, “I’d have been a better father than him ten times over,”
![]() |
He is ready to set it all alight |
then takes a lighter from his pocket. Dylan protests that he will be a better father, one day – but he will never get the chance if he does this.
![]() |
"You'll be in jail, Rhys!" |
“You’ll be in jail, Rhys!” he emphasises,
![]() |
"The baby I wanted has gone!" |
but is told that the baby Rhys wants has gone, and insists that he will not change his mind, but tells Dylan to go.
![]() |
"I'm not going anywhere, OK?" |
“I’m not going anywhere, OK?” replies Dylan, “My prints are all over this place – the police will arrest me for arson – and I don’t want to go to jail for 15 years for something I didn’t do, Rhys! Don’t do this!”
![]() |
Rhys' hand is shaking |
Rhys’ hand is shaking by now and at last he extinguishes the lighter,
![]() |
Dylan is glad the immediate threat is over |
much to Dylan’s relief.

Brynmor has flowers for Kath |
Brynmor comes into Maes-y-Deri with some flowers for Kath,
![]() |
"It will take more than flowers to dig yourself out of this" |
and Mark informs him, “It will take more than flowers to dig your way out of this hole!”
![]() |
"I'd like some privacy to talk to Kath" |
Brynmor would like some privacy so that he and Kath can discuss things.
![]() |
"I don't think so – tell him, Mam!" |
Mark will not comply; “No, I don’t think so – tell him, Mam.”
![]() |
Kath does not say anything |
Kath cannot bring herself to say anything,
![]() |
"You've got a stack of money in the bank" |
so Mark explains, “You’ve got a stack of money in the bank, haven’t you? And you’ve hidden it all from Mam.”
![]() |
"Why do you think that?" |
Brynmor wonders why he thinks that,
![]() |
Kath displays the bank statement |
and Kath displays the bank statement on the table; “At least, I can understand now how you could afford that ring,” she says, “You’ve got thousands in there, Brynmor.”
![]() |
"You had no right to do that! |
He is furious that they have opened his bank statement and Mark insists, “It’s a good thing we did – or Mam would never have found out!”
Brynmor maintains that Kath had no right to do that, but she demands why he did not tell her;
![]() |
"Were you worried I was a gold-digger" |
“Didn’t you trust me? Were you worried I was a gold-digger?” He says nothing, and she adds, “I agreed to marry you because I love you –
![]() |
"It's obvious what you think of me, isn't it?" |
“it’s obvious what you think of me, isn’t it?”
![]() |
Brynmor is speechless |
As Brynmor stands there, not saying a word,
![]() |
"I think you'd better go" |
Mark recommends that he should go. “There’s no need for that,” Brynmor replies, “Kath, can we have a private little chat?” Mark points out that his mother has been hurt,
![]() |
"Go and pack your bags" |
so instructs him to go and pack his bags.

Kelly anxiously approaches number 9 |
Kelly approaches number 9 with trepidation and knocks on the door;
![]() |
"Let me in, please!" |
“Let me in, please,” she asks Sara, and when she is admitted,
![]() |
"Keep away from me!" |
Sara wants her to keep well away. “I’m not here to create aggro – just hear me out, OK?” says Kelly,
![]() |
"I don't expect you to drop the charges . . ." |
“I don’t expect you to drop the charges – cos I’m guilty and I’m ashamed.
![]() |
". . . you snogged my boyfriend! |
“But what I did was a direct result of you seeing you snog my boyfriend. But two people are missing out here – Ifan and Jason. Seeing Ifan at regular intervals is important – it’s a routine for both of them.”
![]() |
"Should have thought of that before attacking me!" |
“You should have thought about that before you attacked me!” Sara snarls at her.
![]() |
"Don't take your revenge out on Jason" |
Kelly continues, “OK, press the charges – whatever – just don’t take your revenge out on Jason. In your heart of hearts, you know I’d never harm Ifan. Come on, Sara, we used to be best mates.”
![]() |
"Best mates – huh!" |
Sara is dismissive of this suggestion, but Kelly says that she is sorry;
![]() |
"We'll be massively indebted to you" |
“Jason and I will be massively indebted to you if you just change your mind.
![]() |
She leaves the house |
She leaves the house without another word.
![]() |
"Don't worry about Llwyncelyn" |
Back at Hywel’s house, Dylan tells Rhys not to worry about Llwyncelyn;
![]() |
"I thought you were going to blow us up!" |
“For a second there, I really thought you were going to blow us up in the house!”
![]() |
"Perhaps it would have been easier for everyone" |
“Perhaps it would have been easier for everyone if I had,” Rhys answers.
![]() |
"You don't do B&B here, do you?" |
Brynmor arrives at the Deri with his luggage and asks Cassie, “You don’t do B&B here, do you?”
![]() |
"No, we don't!" |
Garry, who happens to be nearby, informs him that they do not, and Brynmor goes on, “Kath and I have finished – I think.”
![]() |
"What – Kath Jones has kicked you out?" |
Garry cannot believe that Kath Jones has kicked him out, and is amused by the thought. “You don’t have a spare room, do you?” Brynmor asks Cassie,
![]() |
"Sara has moved in with me" |
but is told that Sara has moved in with her, so he decides he will go and look for a hotel.
Cassie says she has another spare room and produces a spare key for him;
![]() |
"The house is getting like a Doctor Barnardo's home" |
“That house is getting more like a Doctor Barnardo’s home every day.”
![]() |
"You do know that you can tell me anything?" |
Dylan assures Rhys, “You do know that you can tell me anything?”
![]() |
"I just want to be left in peace" |
but Rhys is adamant that he does not want to talk, just to be left in peace. “That’s what worries me, you see –
![]() |
"I want you to be completely honest with me" |
“I just want you to be completely honest with me,” Dylan adds.
![]() |
"I don't know why I'm like this!" |
Rhys breaks down in tears and says that he is sorry; “I don’t know why I’m like this. Sometimes I just want to put a stop to everything – the way I’m feeling – the stuff I’m thinking about –
![]() |
"I just want it all to stop" |
“I just want it all to stop.” He sobs uncontrollably.
![]() |
"Where are you, Dylan" |
In the Deri, Dani is wondering where Dylan is, after having promised to take her to the hospital; “Dylan, where are you? We need to go!” she shouts into the phone.
Gary volunteers to take her, as she does not want to miss the appointment; Dani is not keen.
![]() |
Garry come to the rescue |
“Don’t be soft – I’ll drop you outside – it will be less hassle,” he says. She is adamant that he is not coming in with her.
![]() |
"Did you go to Llwyncelyn to end things?" |
Dylan asks, “Did you go to Llwyncelyn to end things?” Rhys denies this, and explains that he went there because of his father;
![]() |
"I wanted to ruin things for him!" |
“I wanted to ruin things for him, like he ruins everything for everyone else!”
Dylan summarises that he went to burn the house down to teach him a lesson, and Rhys agrees that is exactly right.
![]() |
"It wouldn't have changed how you feel" |
However he is told that would not have worked – it would not have changed how he feels. “It would have made me feel better,” Rhys maintains, but Dylan doubts that he honestly thinks that.
![]() |
"I can't do anything right" |
“I don’t know – perhaps – perhaps not,” he groans, “Dad’s right – I can’t do anything right – I can’t even light a match, let alone raise a child. I’m worthless!”
![]() |
"That's not true, Rhys" |
Dylan is insistent that is not true, but he continues, “I’m a terrible son, I’m a terrible boyfriend, I’m a terrible friend –
![]() |
"I'd be an even worse father" |
“and I’d be an even worse father! You know what?
![]() |
"Everyone's lives would be so much easier" |
“If I did kill myself, everyone’s lives would be so much easier.”
![]() |
"Not a word of that is true, Rhys" |
Dylan points out that not a word of what he has just said is true, but does not appear to be getting through to Rhys.
![]() |
"Andrea on the beach in Singapore" |
Mark has received a photo of Andrea on the beach in Singapore; “She flew out there yesterday.”
![]() |
"She was all right after the accident, then?" |
Kath is pleased that she was all right after the accident, but he says the car will be expensive. Kath assumes that it will be an insurance job, but Mark answers, “No – she didn’t want to lose her no-claims;
![]() |
"I lent her a couple of hundred pounds" |
“I lent her the money so she could do it quickly – a couple of hundred pounds.”
“Are you mad?” demands his mother,
![]() |
"You won't see that money again!" |
“And you criticise me for not trusting Brynmor – you won’t see that money again!”
![]() |
"That's where you're wrong, Mam" |
He is pleased to point out that she is wrong, as she paid it back this morning, straight into the bank, and he has a good feeling about this Andrea.
![]() |
"I hope you have better luck than me!" |
“Well, I hope you have better luck than me!” Kath growls.
![]() |
Brynmor is looking rather sorry for himself |
Brynmor is at that moment sitting at number 9; Cassie comes in and he expresses his gratitude to her. “I wouldn’t have asked if I wasn’t so desperate,” he says.
![]() |
"I need to know what is going on" |
She thinks that they should have a little chat so that she knows what is going on; the last thing she wants is for Kath to accuse her of taking sides.
![]() |
"Kath found out I've got a bit of money" |
He explains, “Kath’s found out that I’ve got a bit of money – and I hid it from her, not wanting her to know. Women in the past have taken an interest in me, just because I’ve got money.”
![]() |
"So you lied to her" |
“So you lied to her,” Cassie tells him,
![]() |
"Well – not telling the whole truth" |
but he regards it more as not telling the whole truth – he did not want it to affect Kath’s feelings for him, but now she has found out and is very angry.
Cassie can understand it; “You’ve put her on trial,” but he points out that he thinks the world of her. “And she thinks the world of you,” insists Cassie,
![]() |
"Kath doesn't forgive easily" |
“But her self-respect has been dealt a big blow – and if Kath gets hurt, she doesn’t forgive easily.” This does nothing to cheer Brynmor.
![]() |
"You have to talk to someone, Rhys" |
“You don’t have to face this on your own,” Dylan declares, “But you have to talk to somebody.”
![]() |
"I don't want to talk to anyone about it" |
Rhys does not want to do that, neither does he want to talk to Dylan about it any more.
![]() |
"Thanks for the chat, but I'm tired" |
As Dylan is about to prepare beans on toast, Rhys thanks him for the chat, but says that he is tired.
![]() |
Dylan's party trick with a tin of beans |
“Do you want beans on toast for dinner?” Dylan asks.
![]() |
Sara arrives at Bryntirion . . . |
Sara arrives at Bryntirion, apparently in a more conciliatory mood;
![]() |
. . . and dispels Jason's worried frown |
“Don’t look so worried – I’ve got good news for you,” she tells Jason, “I’m willing to go back to the old arrangement of sharing Ifan fairly between us.”
![]() |
Kelly is listening |
Kelly is listening to this from the kitchen.
He asks how Kelly fits into this, and that is what she wants to discuss with him;
![]() |
"I'm going to drop the charges" |
“She’s been through a lot – and that’s why I’m going to drop the charges.”
![]() |
Kelly sighs with relief |
He calls to Kelly, “Did you hear that?”
![]() |
"I'm really grateful, Sara" |
and she is really grateful. Sara is doing this for Ifan,
![]() |
"We appreciate that very much" |
and Jason is also very thankful to her.
Then Sara comes to the condition she is setting; “I still want a brother or sister for Ifan.”
![]() |
"OK, whoa – hang on!" |
“OK, whoa – hang on!” interrupts Kelly, but is told that she would be well advised to keep her mouth shut.
![]() |
"The conditions are in this contract" |
“The conditions are all in the contract,” Sara continues, “It’s going to happen in the most effective way.”
![]() |
"You can't force Jason to do anything" |
Kelly protests that she cannot force Jason to do anything. “Don’t worry – I don’t want him back –
![]() |
"Ifan just needs a little brother or sister" |
“Ifan just needs a little brother or sister.”
![]() |
Jason does not agree with this |
Jason is obviously against this proposition, but Sara and leaves them to think about it
![]() |
They are in an invidious position |
Jason sits down in silence and looks at Kelly, who is in tears.
