25 December 2025 (2nd)

The meal at Y Felin is over

Iolo is clearing up after dinner and Liv is about to leave;

"You don't want me hanging around"

“Thanks for letting me come today – you don’t want me hanging around all afternoon.”   He does not agree, but she maintains, “Today is a day for the family.”

"You are family, Liv"

He predictably reminds her that she is family;

"I want you here – and so does Greta"

he wants her there and so does Greta, “But there is one condition –

"Help me clear up|"

“that you help me clear up these crackers.”

Lleucu is worried . . .

Iolo looks anxiously across at Lleucu, who is still checking her phone every few seconds and remarks that she is very quiet.

. . . about her father

“I still haven’t heard from Dad,” she grumbles.   Iolo is sure that there is a good reason why he is not there today, but she is convinced that he is avoiding her.

Liv is back from the kitchen . . .

Liv has come back into the room

. . . and is eavesdropping

and is listening to this conversation, as Lleucu continues, “I had a go at him a while ago for . . . him and Dani –

"I saw them kiss"

“I don’t know what’s going on but I saw them kiss – and I got angry and I said things – and now he’s gone to her today to avoid me.”

"He's gone to help with the wedding"

Iolo reassures her that she is not the reason Cai is not there;  “He said he was going to help with the wedding – a surprise, but he couldn’t tell anyone.

"Anyway, is it such a bad thing?"

And he didn’t want you to worry – so don’t.   Anyway, Lleucs, is it such a bad thing if your Dad and Dani get closer?”

"After everything that's happened?"

“After everything that’s happened?” she demands;  Iolo suggests, “It might be a sign that they are both starting to move on and finding some happiness, which is, after all what we all want for them.”

"I think it's an awful idea!"

"Liv now emerges from her hiding place and maintains that she does not think it is a good idea;  “Sorry, I couldn’t help but hear – I think it’s an awful idea actually.”   (It must be borne in mind that Liv is Dani’s half-sister or something.)

"The last thing the needs is Dani in his life"

“The last thing he needs is Dani in his life.”

Lleucu is rather shocked . . .

This comes as rather a shock to both Lleucu

 . . . as is Iolo

and Iolo

Britt can see that Gayor is coming

Britt looks out of the chapel door to check whether Gaynor is coming and indicates that Elin Fflur should start singing.

As Gaynor enters . . .

As Gaynor enters, accompanied by Colin, the song begins.

. . . Elin's song begins

“There's something about you that I can’t explain,

Something about you that makes my heart beat.”

"That's Elin Fflur!"

When Gaynor sees who is singing, she is amazed, “That’s Elin Fflur!” she gasps.

“There’s something about you that I can’t escape

Tom looks  pleased with himself . . .
Something about you that I can never forget.

When I see the hatred like a cancer in every country,

And seeing the innocent swimming in the blood,

When I see the night shutting out the day,

. . . and kisses Gaynof

Ill never lose faith –- that’s why I’m grateful

That there’s something about you.”

"My skateboard isn't in the car"

At Penrhewl, Huwi-John announces, “Mam, my skateboard isn’t in the car.”   Eileen assumes that he must have left it in the village.   Mathew directs everyone to the table, as the meal is ready.   Sioned tells him to wait a minute and leaves the room.

How am I going to do tis?"

Eileen does not know how she is going to do this and is advised not to take too much to start with;  “A potato or two, a piece of turkey – as long as we clear our plates,” Siôn advises.

The plates are already loaded

Then they discover that all the plates are already loaded with Christmas dinner as Sioned comes back in;

"I expect Huwi wants a full plate"

Mathew expects that Huwi will be wanting a full plate and he replies that he is starving.

"Do we have to eat now?"

“Do we have to eat now?” asks Sioned, while Eileen calculates that an extra place has been set.   Sioned assures him that she has not miscounted, so they assume that someone else will be coming;  Siôn wonders if it is Father Christmas.

"Do you remember you were telling me . . ?

“Do you remember telling me how much you were looking forward to having the whole family together?” says Sioned,

"I thought there was one person missing"

“Well, I thought that there was one person missing,”

Mathew's mother walks in . . .

and Mathew’s mother comes in, much to his surprise, and wishes him Merry Christmas.

. . . much to his surprise

He is taken aback and there is an awkward moment of silence.

Cai links up the doorbell camera

Cai is linking the doorbell camera to a laptop in the Deri flat;  Cassie believed that they still had a camera at Maes-y-Deri, but Mark explains that it is a new one.

"I thought kids had stolen it"

I thought kids had stolen this one, not that it was in a box.”

He looks carefully . . .

Cai has found some videos, which Cassie hopes are from last Christmas.   He says that is the last day which is on it.

. . . at the footage from last Christmas . . .

They look intently as they see themselves approaching the house,

. . . when they were looking for Cheryl

with Mark knocking and shouting Cheryl’s name.

“Now where the hell is she?” growls Cassie, as she sees herself shouting to Tom to open the door.

But the next scenes . . .

Some time later, a car is parked in the driveway

. . . show Tom dragging a heavy burden . . .

and they watch Tom dragging a heavy bundle

. . . into his car

which he puts in the boot of the car.

They are horrified

They realise with horror that this must be Cheryl’s body.

"There's something I have to do"

Ffion’s car stops outside the Deri, with Arwen wondering why they have stopped.   “There’s something I have to do,” Ffion tells her,

"I thought you were in a hurry"

although Arwen thought that she was in a hurry.

“Give me five minutes and don’t go anywhere, right?”

She looks towards the chapel . . .

Ffion gets out of the car and looks with hatred along the road towards the chapel,

. . . and resolutely walks towards it

then walks in that direction.

Siôn reads out the joke

At Penrhewl, the crackers are being pulled and Siôn reads out one of his rather pathetic Welsh jokes.

"We should sell Welsh crackers in Tamed"

“Hey, we should sell Welsh crackers in Tamed next year,” he recommends, but Eileen is too busy struggling with her dinner and refuses any more offered by Sioned.

Mathew is trying to keep out of things

Mathew is not sitting at the table but rather standing, stirring a saucepan.   Siôn asks Melfa if she will be driving back tonight and she replies that she will, but he maintains that is a long drive just for a meal.   “It’s important to make an effort,” she says.

"I'm going outside for some fresh air"

Mathew proposes to step outside for a minute for some fresh air;

Se is about to go after him . . .

Sioned is about to follow him,

. . . but Melfa will go instead

but his mother says that she will go instead.

The wedding is under way

The rather sparsely populated wedding is in progress,

"I promise to be here for you"

as Tom vows, “And more than anything, I promise to be here for you like you are always there for me.   You and me, Gaynor, against the world.”

"Fate brought us together"

She adds, “Tom, I think fate brought us together in Aberystwyth – and although the girls lost that day, I won.   And now I’m ready to stand by your side as a faithful, loyal, loving wife . . .”

Ffion interrupts the proceedings

At that moment the door bursts open and Ffion dashes in, shouting, “Don’t, Gaynor, you can’t do this!

Exactly what he did not want

“You can’t marry a disgusting pig like him – I won’t let you!

"You'll regret this for the rest of your life!"

“Please stop, or you’ll regret this for the rest of your life.

"Tom is the one who attacked me!"

’Tom is the one who attacked me at the reservoir!”

Tom is furious

He looks furiously at her

Elin has not experienced many weddings like this

and Gaynor turns to him in confusion.

A very mild December in Cwmderi

Mathew is sitting on a fallen tree in the farmyarm

"Are you all right, Mathew?"

as his mother approaches, asking if he is all right.

"I'll be back in there now"

He replies that he is and will be back in there now.

"Look, if you want me to leave . . ."

“Look, if you want me to leave, just say,” Melfa offers,

"You've come so far"

but he points out that she has come so far.

“That’s not a reason to stay – not if you don’t want me here.”

"I had a shock, that's all"

He explains that he had a shock, that is all, when she arrived,

"I didn't know it was a surprise"

but she was unaware that it was a surprise.

"Sioned was trying to do something nice"

He understands that it was Sioned trying to do something nice;

"She obviously thinks the world of you"

his mother comments that she obviously thinks the world of him and that he seems very happy there.

"Yes, we are happy"

He agrees that they are.

“Look, I don’t intend to cast a shadow over that,” Melfa assures him.

“I want you in our lives, Mam, but it’s just difficult, that’s all.”

"That would have been the easy thing to do"

She can understand that, admitting that she almost turned back lots of times for the same reason, but that would have been the easy thing to do;  “To turn back, not face things – that’s what I’ve always done and I regret it, as you know.”

"We've been through a lot this year"

Matthew appreciates, “We’ve been through a lot this year, haven’t we, you and me?”   His mother understands if it is too soon, if he is not ready to move, but she is willing to try because she would hate to think they have been through all this for no reason.

"How did we let this happen?"

Mark is distraught;  “How did we let this happen?” he demands, “For a whole year we’ve lived in the same village as him and just accepted everything he said.”

"That's not true"

Cassie interrupts to say that is not true, but he is adamant that they did not do enough;  “To think that we were there last year, just before he dragged . . .

"We should have smashed the door down"

we should have smashed the door down and perhaps we could have saved her.”

Cai tells him that there is no point thinking like that.

"We have to calm dow before the police arrive"

Cassie knows that they have all had a shock, but insists that they have to calm down before the police arrive.

Mark agrees

They have to stick together to make sure the police know what Tom is like.

"Come on, Ffion, this is stupid!"

Tom is still arguing with Ffion in the chapel;  “Come on, Ffion, this is stupid.”

"You admitted it!"

“You would say that, wouldn’t you?   But you admitted it – you did!”

"I did no such thing!"

Of course once again he denies it,

"He admitted that the attacked me!"

so Ffion begs Gaynor, “You have to believe me – he came over to see me earlier, shovel in hand, he grabbed me, hurt me, threatened me and then he admitted that he attacked me.

"He's a disgusting swine!"

He’s a disgusting swine, Gaynor – a pig of a man who makes women trust him and then turns on them when they don’t do what he wants!”

"This is jealousy because I chose you"

Tom whispers in Gaynor's ear, “This is jealousy because I chose you,”

"Who caused that bruise on your face?"

but Ffion goes on to enquire who caused the bruise on her face, which is plastered in makeup today, but Ffion saw it last night and strongly suspects that she knows exactly who did it.

Colin says that she cannot throw around accusations like that, but Ffion angrily replies, “Gaynor isn’t denying it.”

"You've upset Gaynor enough – you should leave!"

is adamant that she has upset Gaynor enough already and that she should leave.

"I'm here for you, Gaynor!"

However, Ffion issues one more plea to Gaynor, “I’m here for you and you don’t have anything to be ashamed of.”

"You heard what he said"

Much to Tom's relief, Gaynor tells Ffion, “You heard what he said,” so she has no alternative but to leave the chapel, while Tom apologises for the interruption.

"You don't believe her, do you?"

“You don’t believe a word she said, do you?”   Gaynor shakes her head, but when asked if she wants to carry on,

"Just give me a couple of minutes"

would like to have a couple of minutes to herself.   Hywel wonders whether the ceremony is going to continue and Tom is confident that it will.

"I need some fresh air"

He is going to go outside, allegedly for some fresh air and will not be long.

Not a 'run of the mill' wedding

Colin, Hywel and the minister are left standing in the chapel.

Tom marches out of the chapel

Tom strides out into the snow, which is still falling,

"You're going to regret doing this!"

then notices Ffion over by the war memorial, so hurries in that direction.   “You’re going to regret doing that!” he snarls,

"You'll regret it when I tell the police"

but she is confident that he will be the one who regrets it once she tells the police that he has been attacking innocent women.

"Do you think they'll believe you?"

“Do you think they'll believe you?    An alcoholic with a history of confusion?” he shouts, as he follows her along the back street.

"Well, I'm not confused now!"

“Well, I’m not confused now – I finally see things clearly!” she rages.   He roughly grabs her arm, but she reminds him that she was in a coma and could have died and that he was pretending to be a friend as she was trying to recover.

"You made it easy for me"

“To think that every time I started to remember something, you would say the right thing to make me think I was going crazy!”   He points out that she made it easy for him.

"Yes, because I was ill"

“Yes, because I was ‘ill’.”

"You were ill, all right!"

Yes, you were ill!” she growls;

"It was you!

she realises that it was him – he poisoned her.

"I'd be very careful about what you do next!"

“I’d be very careful about what you do next!” he threatens, “Because you don’t know the half of it!”

Ffion does her best to run away . . .

She pushes him away with all her strength and runs towards the alley,

. . . but he easily catches her

but she does not get far before he grabs her and she screams.

Arwen hears the screaming

Even with her earphones, Arwen could hear that from the car, so goes to investigate.

Tom is attempting to permanently silence Ffion

Tom has wrestled Ffion to the ground in the alley and appears to be in the process of suffocating her

Tom snarls at her . . .

as he warns, “I told you not to make things difficult for me!”

. . . and she continues to scream

Ffion continues screaming loudly, as Tom is bent on killing her as well, but the timely arrival of Arwen –

The moment of impact

and the skateboard, which Huwi-John happened to leave nearby — changes things.   Arwen administers a hefty blow to the head with it,

Arwen has managed to knock hm out

rendering Tom unconscious.

"Come on, Mam "

Ffion is helped to her feet

Ffion is helped to her feet . . .

and staggers out of the alley,

. . . and supported by Arwen

supported by her daughter.

Washing up between courses

At Penrhewl, Siôn finds that Eileen and Sioned are doing the washing up, having a break before pudding, which was Eileen’s idea.

Siôn has a present for Eileen

Siôn thinks that it is time to present Eileen with another present, so Sioned will go and check on the children.

"A weekend in Cardiff"

Opening the envelope, Eileen is surprised to find that she has been given a weekend in Cardiff;  Siôn emphasises that there is a spa in the hotel and she realises that he has spent a fortune on her today.

"I'll try to make more of an effort"

“Well, like I said, I’ll try to make more of an effort.”   She greatly appreciates that, but reminds him that she just wants the little things.

"I've driven so you can drink . . ."

“For example, today I’ve driven so that you can drink –

". . . and I've eaten two Christmas dinners"

“and I’ve eaten two Christmas dinners, so that you didn’t have to admit that you had double-booked, because that’s, well, how I show that I love you.”

They kiss again

 They kiss again.

"He tried to strangle me!"

Ffion is on the phone to the police;  “Cwmderi High Street, near the shop – he tried to strangle me.   My daughter had to stop him.”

Arwen explains what happened

Cassie, Mark and Cai come out of the Deri and are advised by Arwen that Tom attacked her mother.

"We're outside the Deri now"

Ffion continues, on the phone, “We’re outside the Deri now.”

Gaynor says that she is ready to resume the service

After a few minutes’ contemplation, Gaynor announces that she is now ready to continue with the service, which Colin is pleased to hear.

"Are you willing to sing for us again?"

He wonders if Elin is willing to sing for them again;

"Colin – for you, anything!"

“Colin, for you – anything!” she answers

The look of infatuation

and he seems to have become infatuated.

Tom is stirring . . .

In the alley, Tom is slowly regaining consciousness and hears the sound of distant police sirens.

. . . and awkwardly struggles to his feet

He struggles to his feet,

One of his escape routes is blocked by Cai and Mark . . .

but finds, at one end of the alley, his exit is blocked by Mark and Cai.

. . . the other by a posse of police

Turning in the other direction, he is faced by a car-load of police officers

Tom has nowhere to run

and realises that the game is up.

He is handcuffed

He turns round and is handcuffed.

The trombone recital . . .

At Penrhewl the promised trombone recital is in progress;  it is not actually much appreciated,

. . . is applauded

but is nevertheless applauded.

"Does talent like that run in the family?"

Mathew mutters to Sioned, “Does talent like that run in the family?”

She replies that if it does, neither Jac or Lili are allowed to touch a trombone.

"I've asked Mam to stay the night, if that's all right"

He goes on, “Look, I’ve asked Mam to stay tonight, if that’s all right?”

"Of course it is"

She had been worried that Mathew was angry with her for inviting Melfa down there;  he agrees, “I was, to begin with, but I’m not the only one who’s had a difficult year.   If she’s willing to make the effort, I'm willing to try too.”

He gives Sioned a cwtch

He tightly hugs Sioned.

Now Mathew asks who is ready for pudding,

"Not more food!"

something which is not welcomed by Eileen,

"Did someone mention pudding?"

but Howard, who has just walked in, is all in favour of it.

Sioned has given a big slice to her mother,

Howard enjoys a bit of Christmas pudding

pointing out, “We have used Auntie Gina's recipé,”

Siôn tries to assist

but, gallantly, Siôn scoops it into his bowl,

"Do the little things"

saying that he is following St David’s advice to ‘do the little things’.

A crowd has gathered

A crowd has gathered in the High Street

Tom is led away to the car . . .

as Tom is placed in the police car,

. . . watched by Arwen and Ffion

looking at Ffion and Arwen in the process.

Hywel cannot believe it

Outside the chapel, Hywel cannot believe what is happening;  then Gaynor also emerges

The police car leaves the village . . .

and before he has time to explain, the police car passes,

. . . with Tom inside

with Tom visible in the back seat.

Gaynor runs after it

She runs after the police car, shouting, “Tom!”

She is devastated

and looks devastated.
