Indeg is making breakfast

Indeg is preparing breakfast at number 7, which Ieuan finds rather surprising;  “Yo, Tycs – I’m making everyone a proper fry-up – it’ll be banging!” she predicts, “How many sausages do you want?”

There are five parcels for Indeg

Kelly comes in, carrying a pile of boxes;  “Right, I’ve got five parcels for you here, Indeg,” but Indeg is more interested in getting the breakfast finished.

"Minus the laverbread and cocks"

“The full Welsh is ready – minus the laverbread and cocks, naturally,” Indeg goes on, but the term ‘cocks’ has Kelly puzzled, so Ieuan explains that she means cockles.

"One Weetabix, half a banana . . ."

Kelly enlightens her, “Anita has one Weetabix, half a banana and red top milk – every morning, in this chair, with a cup of tea – 

". . . milk and one sugar – got it?"

“milk and one sugar – got it?”   

"That's Anita's routine"

Ieuan adds that is her routine and invites Kelly to join them;  “Indeg just wants to thank everyone.”

Kelly maintains that there is no need for that;  

"You're not going to be here long, are you?"

“You’re not going to be here long, are you?   Thanks for the tea, though.”

"Are you still here?"

They are joined by Anita, who groans, “Are you still here?”   

"Where is it?   My iPad?"

Then she looks around and demands, “Where is it?   My iPad?”

Indeg hands it over . . .

Indeg had moved it to lay the table, but when she returns it, 

. . . and is burned with the spoon

Anita puts the hot teaspoon on her hand causing Indeg some discomfort.   

"Siwsi never touches my iPad"

Anita reprimands her, “Siwsi never touches my iPad!”

"The little ones are in the car"

At Penrhewl, Mathew is helping with the washing up while Sioned sorts out the Christmas decorations.   Howard comes in, announcing that the little ones are strapped in the car and they are off to Elinor’s;  Sioned will be picking them up about teatime.

"These decorations are so old"

Then she complains that the decorations are so old;  “Mam hasn’t bought any new ones for years.” 

"Things are expensive"

Mathew points out that things are expensive, but she maintains that new decorations would be nice.   “We need some sparkle around here, don’t we?”

"Are you ready for your first session?"

She sees him looking around the room and asks if he is ready for the first session with the counsellor;  “You’ll be fine – 

'I'm so proud of you"

“I’m so proud of you for doing this, remember.

Rhys comes out of number 21 . . .

Rhys comes out of number 21 and is very surprised to see Indeg;  “Oi, cuz!” she shouts.   

. . . and is accosted by Indeg 

She tells him that it was her grandfather’s idea that she should be here and that it is nice to get to know him.

"How's tricks?"

“How’s tricks?   Big boss man now, right here – Kelly said the bar is really cool.”   

"Well, I try my best"

He replies that he is trying his best, then she enquires about his love life;  

"Still gutted you can't date me?"

“Still gutted you can’t date me because we’re cousins?   Come on, who’s the lucky lady?”

He insists that there is nobody, but she warns him that she will tell everyone that he is single because he is still hung up on her.

"I don't know whether I should tell her"

“I haven’t got a girlfriend, right?” he informs her, but she gets the idea that he likes someone;  he agrees that might be the case, but he does not know whether he should tell her

"Oh, Rhyso, where's your rizz, cuz?"

Indeg exclaims, “Oh, Rhyso, where’s your rizz, cuz?” but he has difficulty understanding what she said.   “The worst thing that could happen is that she rejects you – no big deal, is it?   It’s better to know where you stand than to be stuck in no-man’s-land.”

"I thought you were going to college"

Kelly approaches and snarls at Indeg, “I thought you were going to college.”   Indeg replies that she is on her way there now;  

"Catch up later, Rhyso"

she will catch up with ‘Rhyso’ later.

"Rhyso?"

Kelly grimaces, “Rhyso?   Sorry I haven’t answered your messages,” she sighs, 

"And Ieuan's flipping grand-daughter turning up . . ."

“I don’t know – what with Auntie Anita and a lack of sleep – and Ieuan’s flipping grand-daughter turning up, it’s been chaos!   How do you know her anyway – Rhyso?”

"I'll tell you over a drink"

He answers, “I’ll tell you over a drink – are you free now?”   She says that she has to go to the cash and carry – in fact, she should have gone yesterday.   

"We'll meet later, then"

Rhys suggests that she goes there now and they will meet later;  in any case, they need to discuss the Christmas Fair.

"You might have to be a human shield"

“OK – but, just to warn you, you might have to be a human shield, if Kath goes on the attack again!”   

Rhys (quite naturally) fancies her

As Kelly walks away, Rhys looks at her with obvious appreciation (as any normal male would).

"Why is this stuff here?"

Anita is sitting at the kitchen table in number 7 and tells Ieuan she cannot understand why there is so much hairdressing stuff around the place.   

"They're Indeg's things"

He explains that they are Indeg’s things.   “This ‘Meddal’ packaging has started to look cheap,” she remarks. 

Again, he pointed out that it is not her stuff;  

"It belongs to my clients"

“Yes, I know that – it belongs to my clients,” she growls, so he stresses that they are Indeg’s things.

“Indeg?   What does she want them for?”   

"She does Vids and Pods on Insta"

Ieuan believes that she has them to do Vids and Pods on Insta.   “Can you speak Welsh, please?   I didn’t understand a word of that!” Anita complains.

"She's training to be a hairdresser"

He tries again;  “Indeg, my grand-daughter, is training to be a hairdresser.    She’s doing very well – these are freebies and samples.”   

"She's not here to replace Siwsi"

Anita suddenly comes to the realisation that Indeg is not there to replace Siwsi, which is a great relief.

"You can't scald my granddaughter with a spoon"

“And we need to talk about what happened this morning – you can’t scald my grand-daughter with a spoon.”   

"I did no such thing!"

Anita denies that she did any such thing.

He receives a call from Hazel

His phone rings, and Ieuan answers it, only to find that it is Hazel, his ex-wife and grandmother of Indeg.   “Yes, she’s here – she arrived yesterday.   

"She's doing very well,  isn't she?"

“She’s doing very well, isn’t she?   You must be very proud.”

"She's done what?"

Then his expression changes as he continues, “She’s done what?   When?   Indeg?”

Rhys waits outside the Deri

Rhys is waiting outside the Deri, looking at his phone, when Kelly approaches, full of smiles;  

"You're looking dashing!"

“You’re looking dashing,” she comments.   He asks if she got all she needed from the cash and carry.

"There's no reason not to open Y March Gwyn now"

She sighs, “There’s no reason not to open Y March Gwyn now.”   Rhys is glad to have her back with him;  they go into the Deri.

Mathew waits for Sioned 

Mathew is sitting on the sofa at Penrhewl when Sioned comes back in;  

"Have you got time to sit down?"

he asks her, rather seriously, if she has time to come and sit down with him, so she assumes that something has happened.

"Sioned, I'm so sorry"

When she does so, he begins, “Sioned, I’m so sorry.   I spent all morning making a list with the counsellor, of everything I’ve done to you since you tried to help – 

"I've treated you terribly"

“I’ve treated you terribly – I’ve put you through hell.”

"Did you talk about Taid?"

Sioned asks if he talked about Taid;  Mathew replies that he did, 

"I wanted to talk about you"

“But the only thing I wanted to discuss with him was you.   I know I’m asking a lot now, 

"Is there any way you could forgive me?"

“but do you think there’s any way you could forgive me for what I did?”

"A date with your cousin?"

In the Deri, Kelly laughs, “I still can’t believe you’ve been on a date with your cousin!”   He maintains that she cannot judge him 

"You had a big love affair with a pensioner!"

after having a big love affair with a pensioner, but she insists, “You’re just jealous!”   

"You might be right there"

He agrees that she might just be right there.

"Someone to cwtch up to"

She continues, “Gutted I didn’t choose you now – you would have been handy as someone to cwtch up to and watch my favourite Christmas film with.”

He imagines that it would be ‘Die Hard’, 

"No, 'Love Actually' actually"

but she corrects him, “No, ‘Love Actually’, actually.”   

"We could still do that"

Rhys suggests that they could still do that if she wanted to.

Howard arrives in the scene

The progress of this cosy little tête-a-tête is interrupted by the arrival of Howard;  

"Hey, you two – what's this?"

“Hey, you two, what’s this?”   Rhys maintains that they are in the middle of a meeting.   

"Yeah, right – looks like it"

“Yeah, right – looks like it – you don’t mind me joining you, do you?”

They do not look appreciative

As he goes to the bar, it does not appear that they welcome his intrusion.

"Quiet – Anita's asleep"

Indeg bursts into number 7 again and is immediately told to be quiet as Anita is asleep upstairs.   Ieuan wants a word with her.

"Mam-gu Hazel has been on the phone"

“Mam-gu Hazel has been on the phone,” he begins, 

"Oh!"

with Indeg not looking forward to what he has to say.

"She's told me everything!"

“She’s told me everything!”

Penrhewl is in darkness

When Sioned comes back to the farmhouse again, she finds the place in darkness 

Mathew has been decorating

and that Matthew has put up new decorations.   

"Merry Christmas!"

He turns on the lights and wishes her, “Merry Christmas!”

“Where did you get all these decorations?   It looks fab!” she exclaims.   

"I wanted to put a smile on your face"

He saysthat he wanted to do something to put a smile on her face, that is all.

"I wasn't trying to make things weird"

“Listen, about what I said earlier, I’m sorry – I wasn’t trying to make things weird between us.”

"I was pleased you could be honest with me"

Sioned is so pleased that he could be honest with her;  “Are you sure you want us to try and work through this?”   He replies that is what he wants more than anything, so she proposes that they should have a chat. 

"Mam-gu Hazel has been paying your rent?"    

At number 7, Ieuan wants to get this straight;  “Mam-gu Hazel has been paying your rent?   And you’ve told her that it’s £900 a month, whereas it is really £700 a month?   So you’ve been stealing £200 a month from your grandmother for more than a year.”

"But Tycs . . ."

Indeg tries to explain, 

"Now you've come to deceive me as well"

but Ieuan goes on, “And now you’ve turned up here to see ‘Tycs’ to deceive me as well.”

"I know I'm bang out of order with Mam-gu"

Indeg is adamant that is not the case;  “I know I’m bang out of order with Mam-gu, but I’ve saved the profit I was making from her in order to start my own business after I finish the NVQ.   I know I’ve got talent, so, if you can, are you happy to invest in me?”

"With some conditions"

This has taken him by surprise, but he says that he is willing to consider it, with some conditions;  

"You have to move back to your flat"

“You have to move back to your flat!”   

"My flatmate is a nightmare!"

She protests that her flatmate is a nightmare, but Ieuan insists that one of the first rules of business is being able to deal with all kinds of people.

"This is my test"

“This is my test to determine whether you’re a businesswoman worth investing in,” he informs her.   

He takes a key from the drawer 

He takes a key for number 7 from the drawer and gives it to her.   “Here you go – a spare key for this place – in case you need to escape –

"In emergency only"

“but, please, in emergency only!”

"What's going on here, then?"

Anita is coming downstairs and wants to know what is going on;  Ieuan replies that they were just catching up.   

Ieuan will go and get something for dinner

Now he will go out and buy something nice for dinner, “To celebrate that we . . . understand each other.   

"Will you be all right without me?"

“Will you two be all right without me for half an hour?”

"We'll be fine, won't we, love?"

Anita tells him, “Yes, of course – we’ll be fine, won’t we, love?” 

She winks at Indeg

and winks at Indeg.

"I don't know how to explain"

Mathew tells Sioned, “I don’t know how to explain what happened in Ibiza, 

"I was drink and off my head"

“because I was drunk and off my head most of the time.”   

"But you hate drugs"

She points out that he hates drugs.

"I didn't care at the time"

“I know – but I didn’t care at the time,” he admits.   

"What about Chantelle?"

Then she raises the matter of Chantelle, who actually called at the farmhouse some time ago in search of Mathew.  [23 October]

"Just to prove I could still do it"

He answers, “Chantelle was . . . just someone to have sex with – just to prove to myself that I could still do it.”   

"Did you think of me at all?"

Sioned wonders if he thought about her at all, but he explains that he had lost so much respect for himself and everyone else 

"I just wanted to forget everything"

that he just wanted to forget everything.   “Just be with someone who didn’t know anything about my history.”

"You hurt me so much, Math"

Sioned, almost in tears, reminds him, “You hurt me so much, Math.”   He is painfully aware of that and is so sorry.

"I don't want to be the person who hurts you"

“Please believe me when I tell you that I am thinking straight now.   I don’t want to be the person who hurts you – I don’t want to be the person who doesn’t respect you.   I want to be the person who makes you smile, who makes you laugh, who makes you happy – you and the children.   

"I promise I won't run away again"

“And I promise, Sioned, I promise I won’t run away again if things get difficult – I’ll talk to you, be honest with you – and if I wake up one morning and I’m having a bad day, I’ll tell you.  

"I won't hide anything from you"

“I promise I won’t hide anything from you again.”

"I believe you"

Sioned stresses that she believes him 

The first kiss for a long time

and they kiss, for the first time in ages;  

"We'll get through this . . ."

“We’ll get through this,” she assures him, 

". . . small steps every day"

“Small steps every day.”

A bit of competitive drinking . . .

Rhys and Howard appear to be having a drinking competition;  

. . . leaving Howard rather wobbly

Howard staggers off to the bar to get another round, remarking that the shots are pretty strong.

"I shall have to go before long"

When Rhys asks Kelly if she is enjoying herself, she replies that she will have to go before long.   

"Kel, I meant it, you know"

“Kel, I meant it, you know – what I said,” he goes on, “About you and me.”

"What about you and me?"

“What about you and me, Rhyso?”   He says that it does not have to be serious, not to start with, 

"We'll see how things go"

but reaches behind him to produce some mistletoe, adding, “We’ll see how things go.”

"Don't say you've been carrying that around?"

“Please don’t say you’ve been carrying that around all night?” she laughs, but he explains that it is from the bar.   

"What's that, then?"

Howard returns with the drinks and does not know what he is holding, 

"Uchelwydd"

so Rhys explains that it is ‘Uchelwydd’, 

"You what?"

a word which Howard has not come across, but he does recognise the English version, ‘mistletoe’.

"Come on, Howard!"

Kelly grabs the mistletoe, exclaiming, “Come on, Howard!”   He looks mystified, 

He gives her a brief kiss . . .

then briefly kisses her 

. . . and they laugh

and they both burst out laughing.

Anita hands something to Indeg 

Anita hands a piece of paper to Indeg;  

"They're invoices"

“I found it in the parcels earlier – they’re invoices, aren’t they?   

"You haven't been receiving free samples, have you?"

“You haven’t been receiving free samples, have you?   

"I remember hiding bills from Ieuan"

“Don’t worry, I won’t say a word – I remember hiding Meddal bills from Ieuan myself – I understand. [February 2024]  

"Our little secret – yeah?"

“Our little secret – yeah?   

Indeg is glad to have Anita on hr side

“One successful businesswoman to another.   You keep them safe, all right?

"I think you and I are going to be friends"

“I think, from now on, you and I are going to be friends.”
