| A wrap, expertly prepared |
Kelly is carefully preparing a wrap
![]() |
| Rhys approaches . . . |
when Rhys approaches; after watching her for a few seconds,
![]() |
| "I've never seen someone focus so much" |
he comments, “I’ve never seen someone focus so much on making a wrap.”
![]() |
| "This is the critical moment" |
She very seriously replies, “This is the critical moment – ready?” and she completes the process. Rhys says that it looks nice.
![]() |
| "You can have it, if you like" |
“You can have it if you like – business is really slow and I’m just making them in the hope someone will phone with an order.”
![]() |
| "I was really hoping I'd be in the Christmas spirit" |
As he bites into the wrap, Kelly sighs, “Honestly, Rhys, I was really hoping I’d be in the Christmas spirit after the success of the Christmas Fair, but do you know what?
![]() |
| "Can't be A . . !" |
“C B A. Can’t be A . . . I just want it all over and done with.”
He urges her not to be such a Scrooge,
![]() |
| "I want to hide under a massive rock" |
but she insists, “No, honestly, right, I just want to go and hide under a massive rock until it’s all over.”
![]() |
| "Right, you're coming over – see you later" |
Rhys instructs her, “Right, you’re coming over – we’ll close early today and I’m determined to get you excited about Christmas – see you later!”
![]() |
| Are things looking up? |
Kelly thinks that this sounds as if it might be good.
![]() |
| "This is delicious, Eileen" |
Siôn is eating a cake, which he describes as delicious and tells Eileen that he has been thinking about Christmas Day;
![]() |
| "Crackers with jokes in Welsh" |
“I’m going to create crackers with jokes in Welsh.” She does not appear particularly enthusiastic. He goes on, “I might dress up, too.”
![]() |
| "What are you up to?" |
He hurries out of the room, as Eileen wonders what is going on.
![]() |
| A traditional Father Christmas – not one in green this year? |
He returns wearing a Father Christmas hat; she calls him very handsome.
![]() |
| He kisses Eileen |
He also has some mistletoe and kisses her, but in the background, we hear strains of trombone music, not entirely tuneful.
![]() |
| "It comes so naturally to him" |
“It comes so naturally to him, doesn’t it?” says Eileen.
Siôn suggests that they could ask Mozart if he wants to go over to Penrhewl later;
![]() |
| "We can have a quiet evening together" |
“And then we can have a quiet evening together.”
![]() |
| Excruciating trombone sounds |
As they kiss again, the trombone sounds almost like one of Penrhewl’s cows in extreme pain.
![]() |
| "I was just passing" |
Cassie visits Llwyncelyn, giving the excuse that she was just passing and thought she would call in to see how Gaynor is. She replies that she has plenty to do, so Cassie will not keep her.
![]() |
| "Has Tom given you an explanation about Louise?" |
“I wanted to ask if Tom had given you an explanation about Louise – Mark has heard from her. She said that Cheryl hasn’t been with her in Stoke – to be honest, she doesn’t even live there.”
![]() |
| "Why has Mark been talking to Louise" |
Gaynor wants to know why Mark has been talking to Louise; she is informed that Louise is trying to get in touch with Cheryl.
![]() |
| "Why would Tom lie about where Cheryl is?" |
“Look, I don’t want to make any trouble, but why would Tom lie about where Cheryl is?”
Gaynor does not believe that Tom has lied; “You can’t come here and accuse Tom of that – perhaps Louise is lying – or Cheryl –
![]() |
| "It wouldn't be the first time, would it?" |
“it wouldn’t be the first time, would it?”
![]() |
| "I'm worried about Cheryl" |
Cassie explains, “Cheryl’s disappearance was very strange and I’m worried about her.” Gaynor makes it quite clear that she is not at all worried,
![]() |
| "All she did was ruin our lives!" |
as all that Cheryl did was to ruin their lives when she was there. She is determined not to waste any more effort worrying about her.
![]() |
| "I've got a lot to do today" |
Thanks for coming over, but I’ve got a lot to do today – I’m fine, OK? Apart from the fact that I’m short on time!”
![]() |
| "Why don't you come over to the Deri?" |
As she is about to leave, Cassie says that Eileen and Britt are coming over to the Deri for a drink tonight to say goodbye to Kath before she goes to London. “Why don’t you come over? It will give you a chance to relax and have a chat, just us girls.”
![]() |
| "No, not tonight" |
Gaynor replies with distaste, “Thanks for the offer, but no, not tonight.”
![]() |
| "I won't take no for an answer" |
Cassie does not want to take no for an answer, so Gaynor says that she might call in for one later – if she has time. She is glad to see the back of Cassie.
![]() |
| Kelly's eyes are covered |
Rhys leads Kelly into number 21 with his hands over her eyes;
![]() |
| "You've gone to a lot of effort" |
she is impressed by his efforts at decorating the place.
![]() |
| "Ooh – I love popcorn!" |
Then she notices something and growls, “I love popcorn!”
![]() |
| "That's why I bought it!" |
Rhys knows that and it is why he bought it.
![]() |
| "This is really sweet" |
“This is really sweet – thanks,” she tells him. He replies that she deserves a break from work and looking after Anita, so she can enjoy Christmas a little bit. He thought that they could watch a film,
![]() |
| "What film do you fancy?" |
so she enquires what he fancies.
He has already chosen one, which Kelly assumes is Die Hard, but he enlightens her that it is a Christmas film, so she guesses at Scrooge.
![]() |
| "Love Actually, actually!" |
He repeats what she said the other day, “Love Actually, actually! Your favourite Christmas film.
![]() |
| "You see, I do listen when you talk to me – sometimes" |
“You see, I do listen when you talk to me – sometimes. I haven’t seen it before, so I hope it’s good, or I won’t be happy.”
![]() |
| Colin can clearly see . . . |
At the MFC flat, Colin comes into the room
![]() |
| . . . that Bili is not happy |
where Bili is still clutching Huwcyn the teddy bear and not looking at all happy.
Colin remarks that Bili seemed happy enough when he left this morning and was excited about going back to his mother.
![]() |
| "I've been trying to get Huwcyn from him" |
“I feel awful,” groans Britt, “I’ve been trying to get Huwcyn from him all morning – I don’t want to lose him. Teg gave him to Chester.”
![]() |
| "Don't you think Bili needs Huwcyn more than you?" |
Colin suggests, “Don’t you think perhaps Bili needs Huwcyn more than you?
![]() |
| "Look at him" |
“Look at him – you’ve got attic full of other memories of Chester, haven’t you?”
Britt is made to feel suitably repentant and hurries back into the room where Billy is clutching the bear.
![]() |
| "You can keep him" |
“You like Huwcyn – you can keep him,” says Britt
![]() |
| "Really?" |
and Bili immediately brightens up and holds the bear even more tightly. Colin looks very pleased with the outcome.
![]() |
| "I'll cook tonight" |
As they sit in the Deri, Siôn tells Eileen that he has been thinking about dinner tonight; “I’ll cook and we’ll have a bottle of wine, a bit of music.” Eileen wants to help with the cooking, but he insists that he is going to spoil her.
![]() |
| "Don't forget about tonight, Eileen" |
Cassie approaches and remarked that someone is looking happy; she reminds Eileen about tonight,
![]() |
| "I bet Britt won't be here much before seven" |
with Kath adding, “Britt said she’d be here about 6:30 pm – but there we are, I bet you she won’t be here much before seven.
![]() |
| "Sorry, Siôn – I totally forgot . . ." |
Then Eileen apologises to Siôn as she had totally forgotten about this;
![]() |
| " . . . I'll make nan excuse" |
she says that she will make an excuse, because she would rather spend the whole night with him.
![]() |
| "No – you go and meet with the girls" |
He encourages her to go and meet with the girls, then she can come home to the feast he will have prepared for them.
![]() |
| He kisses Eileen again |
They kiss.
![]() |
| "This is my favourite scene . . ." |
At number 21, Kelly is watching the film and the amount of popcorn does not seem to have diminished much; “This is my favourite scene,” she tells Rhys.
“What? This one with the cards?” he replies incredulously. Kelly regards it as so romantic, but to him it is just creepy.
![]() |
| ". . . I love how vulnerable he is" |
“It’s not creepy – I love how vulnerable he is – he bares his soul just to tell her that he loves her and he expects nothing in return.”
![]() |
| "But she's his best friend's wife" |
Rhys points out that she is his best friend’s wife, but is told to be quiet;
![]() |
| Kelly has a phone message |
then the sound of Kelly’s phone disturbs them.
![]() |
| "Auntie Neet needs me" |
“I have to go – that was Ieuan – Auntie Neet needs me.”
![]() |
| "Sorry, I can't stay . . ." |
Rhys asks if she can stay until the end of the film; she cannot do that,
![]() |
| ". . . but it's been really nice" |
but says, “You know what? It's been really nice to be able to switch off – for a while anyway.”
He proposes that they could watch the rest of the film another time, but she tells him to carry on;
![]() |
| "I shall want a full review later" |
“I shall want a full review later.”
![]() |
| "I have seen it before . . ." |
As she is about to leave, he has a confession to make; “I have seen it before –
![]() |
| ". . . but I didn't remember" |
“but I didn’t remember until the bit when Emma Thompson doesn’t get the necklace.”
![]() |
| "How could anyone forget?" |
Kelly cannot understand how anyone could forget that they have seen it before; she agrees that scene is truly heartbreaking and they look lovingly at each other.
![]() |
| "Thanks, Rhys, I have enjoyed myself" |
“Thanks, Rhys, I have enjoyed myself,” she says and he agrees that he has, too,
![]() |
| He helps himself to more popcorn |
then sits down and crunches on some more popcorn.
![]() |
| Cassie is pouring Prosecco . . . |
Cassie pours out the Prosecco
![]() |
| . . . when Britt arrives |
just as Britt walks in, apologising that she is late; “Tonight calls for sparkles,” she comments
![]() |
| "And bubbles as well" |
and Kath adds that there are bubbles as well.
![]() |
| "Little Bili went back to his mother today" |
Britt is desperate for a drink, informing them that little Bili went back to his mother today.
![]() |
| "It's nice to get everyone together" |
She says that it is nice to get everyone together, but Eileen cannot stay very long, unfortunately. Cassie has been unable to contact Gaynor, but Eileen imagines that she is busy with the wedding.
Eileen receives a text message from Siôn;
![]() |
| "You've only been apart for five minutes" |
“You’ve only been apart for five minutes!” snarls Kath and she is reminded that this is supposed to be a night with the girls, so is told to put the phone in her bag.
![]() |
| "Date night tonight, is it?" |
Britt assumes that Eileen has a date night with Siôn tonight and argues that she can have that tomorrow night; “Tonight is our night – how about some cocktails, Kath?”
![]() |
| "Siôn will understand if you're a bit late" |
Cassie is sure that Siôn will understand if Eileen is a little bit late
![]() |
| Rhys knocks at number 7 |
In the darkness of the High Street, Rhys is knocking on the door of number 7;
![]() |
| Kelly is surprised by what he is holding |
Kelly opens it, to find him displaying a large handwritten notice,
![]() |
| 'Say it's Megan here' |
‘Say that it’s Megan here,’ but Kelly informs him that the others are upstairs.
![]() |
| 'I just wanted to say' |
The next few notices read, ‘I just wanted to say . . .
![]() |
| 'that I think' |
‘that I think . . .
![]() |
| 'you're incredible' — cannot disagree with that |
‘you’re incredible.’
![]() |
| Kelly is very amused by this |
This is followed by,
![]() |
| 'We've been friends for a while . . .' |
‘we've been friends for a while . . .
![]() |
| 'and you know too many' |
‘and you know too many . . .
![]() |
| 'embarrassing things about me' |
‘embarrassing things about me.’
![]() |
| Kelly is laughing |
Kelly is amused by this and he continues,
![]() |
| 'so' |
‘So . . .
![]() |
| 'please can I take you out on a date?' |
‘please can I take you out on a date?’
![]() |
| Kelly nods her agreement |
She nods her head and he moves to the next card
![]() |
| which comes as a considerable relief to Rhys |
which reads, ‘Phew!’
![]() |
| Kelly erupts into peals of laughter |
Kelly bursts out laughing
![]() |
| 'Merry Christmas' |
as the final card, ‘Merry Christmas’ is revealed; she wishes him a Merry Christmas as well,
![]() |
| Kelly kisses him |
steps out of the door and kisses him.
![]() |
| "Thank you" |
“Thank you.”
![]() |
| All Rhys' Christmases have come at once |
As she closes the door again, Rhys looks exceedingly pleased with himself and prepares to walk away, presumably picking up all the discarded notices first.
![]() |
| "Things start playing on my mind" |
Cassie remarks that she needed this tonight; “If I don’t keep busy, things start playing on my mind.”
![]() |
| This surprises Eileen |
Eileen is surprised by this, so she continues, “I was just thinking how sad it is when sensible and intelligent women lose themselves when they have a man.
![]() |
| "Important for women to spend time with other people" |
“It's important for women to still spend time with other people, even if they are in a relationship.”
![]() |
| "Are you talking about me?" |
Eileen believes this is a dig against her, but is assured that it is not; “You and Siôn seem to be very happy together – but not every man is like that –
![]() |
| "Some can be dangerous" |
“some can be dangerous, they want to be in control – and they lie, almost until a woman can’t make a decision for herself.
![]() |
| "What are you talking about" |
Eileen has no idea what she is talking about,
![]() |
| "I'm worried about Gaynor" |
so she explains, “I’m worried about Gaynor. Anyway, how are things with you and Siôn?”
![]() |
| "He's making a special dinner for me" |
She replies that he makes a lot of effort and is making a special dinner for them tonight – so she had better go or she will be in the bad books.
![]() |
| Britt is getting stuck into the cocktails |
At the bar, Kath is pouring out another cocktail when they notice that Eileen is leaving;
![]() |
| "Date night!" |
she describes it as, “Date night!”
![]() |
| "There's something I must do" |
Cassie comes across and tells them that she has something to do before she has her next one.
![]() |
| Eileen discovers the table laid . . . |
When Eileen arrives back at the shop flat, the table is laid,
![]() |
| . . . complete with a candle |
complete with a candle,
![]() |
| Siôn is asleep . . . |
and she notices that Siôn is fast asleep on the sofa;
![]() |
| . . . so she covers him with a blanket . . . |
she covers him with a blanket
![]() |
| . . . and smiles at him |
and smiles at him.
![]() |
| There is another candle at Llwyncelyn |
Another candle is burning and alongside it a phone rings;
![]() |
| Gaynor picks up the phone . . . |
Gaynor picks it up
![]() |
| . . . and finds that Cassie is ringing |
and finds that it is a call from Cassie, which she ignores,
![]() |
| Back to her reading . . . |
returning to her book.
![]() |
| . . . but then there is a text . . . |
Then a text message arrives, which reads, ‘I’m trying to help you.”
![]() |
| . . . and Gaynor has had enough |
This is the last straw; Gaynor slams down her book and gets up.
![]() |
| "Oh, they've gone" |
When Cassie comes back into the bar, she finds that the girls have gone;
![]() |
| "Where have you been?" |
Kath wants to know where she has been. “Trying to get hold of Gaynor,”is the reply,
![]() |
| "Yom isn't the man she thinks he is!" |
“I'm worried about her – Tom isn’t the man she thinks he is!”
![]() |
| "Yeah, I don't like the bloke either" |
Kath agrees that she does not like the bloke either, but points out that Gaynor loves him; there is nothing either of them can do to change that.
![]() |
| "All right, all right – I'm coming!" |
Suddenly there is a frenzied hammering on the door of the pub; they wonder who it is at this time of night, so Kath goes to find out.
![]() |
| "Will you please leave me alone?" |
Gaynor bursts in, marches across to the bar and demands, “Will you please leave me alone, Cassie? It isn’t appropriate for you to phone me this time of night.”
![]() |
| "Tom is not the man you think he is" |
Cassie apologises, but once again stresses that she is worried about Gaynor and that Tom is not the man she thinks he is.
![]() |
| "Why can't you stop interfering?" |
“I told you this morning you don’t need to worry – why can’t you and this village stop interfering? Tom and I love each other –
![]() |
| "We're going to get married – and we're going to be happy!" |
“we’re going to get married – and we’re going to be happy! You and this place had better accept that! I’ve had enough of having to justify this relationship to everyone!”
![]() |
| "I'm not going to let her marry him!" |
After she has stormed out, Cassie is adamant, “I’m not going to let her marry him!”
![]() |
| Evidently Kath does not agree |
as Kath looks disapprovingly at her.
