The Christmas Fair is being organised

The Christmas fair has been set up outside the Ceffyl Du brewery and Y March Gwyn;  Kelly hopes that the punters will come today after all this effort.   

"You've changed your tune"

Rhys remarks that she has changed her tune 

Sioned and Mathew arrive

and at that moment Sioned and Mathew arrive with items for 

"Tamed stall over there"

the Tamed stall.

"I'm the elf carrying the stock"

Mathew comments, “I’m the elf carrying all the stock.”   Rhys wonders if he would like to help Father Christmas in the grotto later, 

"I'd better get back to work"

but Mathew thinks that he had better get back to work.

"Are you sure you don't mind picking up the twins?"

“Are you sure you’re OK to pick up Jac and Lili before the fair?” Sioned asks and he assures her that he is, then he will get back to elf duties.    

Ah – they are back together again

He kisses her.   Mathew remarks that Rhys and Kelly make a good team, when they want to.

"When we want to!"

Kelly smilingly repeats, “When we want to,” looking into Rhys’ eyes.   

They can see what is happening

Both Mathew and Sioned can see that something is going on there.

Cai and Mark have been summoned

Cai and Mark come into the deli, where they have apparently been summoned by Tom;  

"I know alcohol can give people silly ideas . . ."

“Thanks for coming,” he says and points out that he has bought two coffees for them in case they have got a headache.   “I know alcohol can give people some silly ideas sometimes – but yesterday . . . 

". . . but what came over you?"

“what came over you?”

They remain silent

Nether Cai nor Mark say anything, so Tom continues, 

"I think you've misunderstood who I am"

“I think you’ve misunderstood who I am – things that can look suspicious, well . . . I’m just shy, really.”

Mark utters the single word, “Right,” but without any conviction.

"Honestly, I'm a decent bloke"

Tom goes on, “Honestly, now – I’m a decent bloke – and to prove it, I’m not going to report you to the police, because that’s what I should do.”

Still no response

The two of them look unimpressed, so he ploughs on, “Who starts digging in someone else’s garden like that?”   

"Sorry"

Mark is feeling uncomfortable and apologises that they are sorry, although Cai does not share his feelings.

Tom is hoping that they can bury the hatchet and be civil, for Gaynor’s sake.   

"For Gaynor's sake"

After some hesitation, Cai agrees, “For Gaynor’s sake.”

“Well, now that we’ve got that sorted, I’ve got a million and one things I have to do – 

"See you, boys"

“see you, boys,” says Tom, getting up and leaving the deli.   Cai and Mark look at each other.

"You've done a great job, Anita"

In APD, Mathew tells Anita that she has done a great job;  

"I really appreciate you two"

“I really appreciate you two,” he continues, “And I’ve taken a look at the books as well – business and profits are up.   

"I know I haven't been here as often as I should have been"

“I know I haven’t been here as often as I should have been these last few months – and I’m sorry about that.”

"You have to look after yourself as well"

Anita insists that he has to look after himself as well, so he goes on to announce, “That’s why I’ve organised a surprise for us all, as staff.”   Ieuan likes the sound of that 

"Christmas dinner next week in Tamed . . ."

and they are told that they are having Christmas dinner next week in Tamed.

". . . and I'm paying . . ."

“All the drinks – the whole works – and I’m paying for everything, 

". . . or at least, APD is paying"

“well, not me, but APD will be paying for everything.   

"Plus one more surprise"

“And, as it is Christmas, I’ve arranged one more surprise,” but we do not learn what this is.

Tom wants to install cameras

Tom is out in the garden at Llwyncelyn and informs Gaynor, “I’m trying to find a place to put these CCTV cameras for when we’re away on honeymoon – 

"I don't want to leave this place empty for a month"

“I don’t want to leave this place empty for a month without security.”

"I've just been to see the doctor"

She regards that as a good idea, adding that she has just been to see the doctor.   

"I thought we'd agreed . . ."

“I thought we agreed that you wouldn’t go until after the wedding,” he reprimands her.

Gaynor insists, “I’m doing this for us – I feel so much better after talking to someone – 

"She thinks I'm suffering from depression"

“she thinks I’m suffering from depression.”

Of course he wants to know exactly what the doctor asked;  “She asked how I was sleeping and about my diet.   She asked how things were between us at the moment.”

"What?   Talking about our personal business?"

Tom is outraged that she talked about their personal business and she goes on, “Between organising the wedding and you having that mini stroke, she wasn’t surprised that I’m under strain.’

"So it's my fault now, is it?"

“So it’s my fault now, is it?” he snarls.   Gaynor denies this and says that the doctor offered her some tablets, but she is not sure whether she wants to take them;  

"I don't want to take them if it's not necessary"

she is reluctant to take them if it is not necessary.   

"You've been imagining conversations"

“I think it’s necessary,” he emphasises, “You’ve been imagining conversations that haven’t happened.”

"No, I'm not showing you!"

At APD Anita draws a name out of the hat for the ‘Secret Santa’ and will not show Ieuan who it is.   Then he takes his turn 

"What happens if I choose myself?"

and asks, “What happens if I choose myself?”   He is told to put it back and try again, 

"That will mean Howard chooses my present"

but then complains that it will mean that Howard chooses his present.

"It could be Siwsi"

“It could be Siwsi – they can choose theirs when they come in later,” says Mathew and Ieuan is extremely anxious that he should get Siwsi.   Mathew warns him to stop ‘micro-managing’ 

"And the budget is £20"

and must remember that the budget is £20;  “We only want decent presents, don’t we?   We’re each only buying one.”

“It’s even more important who buys it, then!” growls Ieuan.   

Anita appears to be 'in another world'

When they turn to look at Anita, she has a far-away look.   

"I'm glad we can do this at the end of the year"

She says that she is glad they can do this at the end of the year.

"Well, if you want me to take antidepressants . . ."

Gaynor tells Tom, “Well, if you want me to take antidepressants, I will,” 

"It doesn't work like that, Gaynor"

but he insists that it does not work like that – she should not take them just to make him happy.   

"But it's worth discussing"

“But it’s worth discussing it as a couple, isn’t it?” she adds.

“You went to the doctor without discussing it with me, so why should we discuss this?”   She does not want him to be angry with her, 

"Do you know how pathetic you sound?"

but he sneers, “Do you know how pathetic you sound?”

She admits that she feels pathetic;  “I feel like I’m getting on your nerves every minute!”

He replies that he knows she is ill but she cannot have it both ways;  “I told you last week that I’d look after you – and now you’ve seen the doctor without telling me.   

"If you want to take them, take them – I don't care!"

“Stop saying sorry all the time – if you want to take these tablets, take them – I don’t care!”

"I'll leave you alone"

She decides to leave him alone, 

He has a text message from Ffion 

at which point a message arrives on his phone;  

"Can you come over?"

it is from Ffion who asks if he can come over, as it is important.

Siôn has been childminding

In the shop flat, Siôn is in sole charge of the twins;  Mathew is surprised that they are with him and is told that Eileen had to leave to go to Tamed.

"He'd forgotten who his grandfather is"

“It’s as if this little man has forgotten who his grandfather is,” he adds, so Mathew is eager to take him.   

"There were tears when I was changing his nappy"

“There were tears earlier when I was changing his nappy,” says Siôn, “But you’re happy with Mathew.”

"Since when have you been their grandfather?"

Mathew is confused;  “Since when have you been their grandfather?”   Siôn explains that Eileen called him that earlier and he quite liked it.   

"We've had a very nice morning together"

Meanwhile, Lili is objecting to the lack of attention.   “We’ve had a very nice morning together,” says Siôn.

"I was pleased to hear from you"

Tom has wasted no time in going to Deri Fawr, telling Ffion that he was pleased to hear from her.   

"I'm thinking of moving to North Wales permanently"

“I just wanted to tell you something,” she begins, “I think you deserve to hear it from me.   Sit down.   I’m thinking of moving to North Wales permanently next year – it would be best for everyone.”

"But why, Ffion?"

Tom does not understand the reasoning behind this, 

"I don't want to have to watch you and Gaynor"

so she spells it out, “I don’t want to have to watch you and Gaynor as a married couple – and it would be easier for you without me being here.”

"It would be awful, not being able to see you"

thinks otherwise;  “It would be awful not being able to see you – the last fortnight has been hard enough – haven’t you missed me, Ffion?”

"I must put myself first now"

She does not answer his question, but is adamant that she has to put herself first now;  “It’s so hard, being your second choice,” but he maintains that she is not second choice 

"I could come to North Wales with you"

and now suggests that he could come to North Wales with her.

"I don't want this wedding, Ffion"

“I don’t want this wedding, Ffion – please let me come with you.”   

She was not expecting that

She appears to be stunned by this unexpected offer.

Huwi-John, apparently

The brass band is performing outside MFC with Rhys and Kelly watching them.   

"To us!"

Rhys proposes a toast, “To us!”   Kelly considers that she had better not have too many more drinks, 

"I might snog someone controversial"

or she might snog someone controversial.

"Like Howard or Brynmor?"

Rhys wonders who she had in mind – “Howard or Brynmor?” but she angrily points out that Howard was just a ‘peck’ and he should stop spreading gossip.

“Wouldn’t it be easier to snog someone you like?” Rhys suggests;  

"Yeah, possibly"

she agrees that possibly it would, but suggests they go and make some money.

"Ieuan is looking for someone"

Griffiths walks past, obviously looking for someone;  he passes Father Christmas, in the form of Dai, attended by his little helper, Eileen and ask them if they have seen Anita.

"Look what my wife's done to me!"

“You’re lucky – look what my wife’s done to me!” complains Dai, “She’s plonked me here and volunteered me without asking!   What am I supposed to do?”

"Little children with their smelly nappies!"

Diane tells him to be quiet, as the children can hear him, but he continues moaning, “Little children with their smelly nappies!   Why me, when it’s so cold?”

"Isn't Father Christmas supposed to be a bit more positive?"

Ieuan maintains that Father Christmas is supposed to be a bit more positive than that, but Dai goes on, “This costume is full of pins!”

"Last year's Father Christmas was six foot three!"

Diane explains, “Last year’s Father Christmas was six foot three, so stop moaning!”   

"No – doctor's orders!"

When Ieuan takes pity on Dai and offers him a hot drink, this is prohibited by Diane, quoting doctor’s orders.

"I've found Siwsi's Secret Santa present"

The Ieuan locates Anita, who proudly announces that she has found Siwsi’s secret Santa present.   

"No, I'm buying Siwsi's present"

“No,” he corrects her, “I’m buying Siwsi’s present,” but she is not willing to accept that, insisting that he should check his piece of paper.

"No – I don't want her help!"

“Indeg is coming over this weekend, so perhaps she can help you . . .” but Anita will have none of that.

“No – I don’t want her help or anyone else’s.   I want to go home,” she wails;  neither does she want her hot drink, 

"There are too many people about"

protesting, “There are too many people about!” so Ieuan leads her somewhere quieter.

Gaynor walks toward the pharmacy . . .

Gaynor walks despondently past the brass band to the pharmacy;  

. . . and lets herself in

making sure that no-one is looking, she unlocks the door and goes inside.

To tries to persuade Ffion 

At Deri Fawr, Tom urges Ffion to consider his offer, 

"What about your job?"

but she reminds him, “What about your job?   There’s so much to think about.”

He is confident that he can find another job;  

"Stop looking for reasons for the not to work"

“Stop looking for reasons for this not to work – let’s be excited!”   

Is she coming round to his way of thinking?

Just when he thinks that he may have convinced Ffion, 

"It's Gaynor!"

he receives another message on his phone, which he angrily discovers is from Gaynor.

“We’ve got to go to this Christmas fair,” he complains, “Look, I don’t want to hurt her, but it’s about time I started putting myself first, too. 

"Just you, me and Arwen"

“A new start, just you and me and Arwen – it will be great!”

Gaynor has found some tablets . . .

In the Pharmacy, Gaynor has found the tablets she was looking for 

. . . and swallow one

and takes one, putting the rest of the packet into her pocket.

The twins have come to see Father Christmas  

Sioned and Mathew have brought the twins to meet Father Christmas;  

"We look like triplets"

Diane decides that she will take a picture of this meeting as Dai maintains that they look like triplets, dressed in the same red costumes as him.

Diane has missed several calls

However, when Diane looks at her phone, she finds that she has several missed calls from Emma.   Dai asks where they got those the twins’ Father Christmas costumes.   Sioned replies that they had to get something that will embarrass the twins when they get older.

"Emma's invited us to Australia"

Diane has been speaking to Emma and informs Dai, “She’s invited us to Australia for three weeks over the New Year.”   

"It will be nice to get some sunshine"

Sioned remarks that it will be nice for them to get some sunshine.

"I don't think you'd cope"

“But we can’t go, not with . . . listen, I don’t think you’d cope,” she tells Dai, “The flight is so long, to begin with.”

"But that doesn't stop you going!"

He responds with, “But that doesn’t stop you from going!”   Diane says that she cannot possibly leave him on his own, but he snorts, “Rubbish!   Life’s too short and these kids are growing up in front of our eyes.   

"If you get a chance, you need to grab it"

“If you get a chance to do something, you need to grab it!”

Sioned is in agreement with that

Sioned can agree with that, and Dai insists that he is totally sure, 

"Despite the price they charge!"

explaining, “I can always spend some time in Brynawelon – despite the price they charge!   

"Perhaps I could spend some time with you as well"

Perhaps I could spend some time with you as well,” he says to Sioned, 

"Of course you can, Dai"

who agrees that he can.

Diane hugs Dai

Diane is very excited and hugs Dai.   Siôn, who happens to be passing, 

"Is that appropriate, Father Christmas?"

wonders if that is appropriate for Father Christmas and Sioned comments that romance is in the air.   Siôn has come to see Huwi-John performing on his trombone.

"If I hear about that trombone one more time . . ."

“If I hear about Huwi-John and that trombone one more time!” snarls Sioned, 

"You don't have to listen to him practising"

but Siôn reminds her that she does not have to listen to him practising.   

And there he is performing

We have a close-up of him performing part of ‘Jingle Bells’.

"Why didn't your mother look after the twins?"

Mathew enquires, “Why didn’t your mother look after the twins this morning?”   Sioned believes that she was making Cae Glas deliveries.

"Their version of one step at a time"

“As Siôn has moved back in, this is their version of taking things one step at a time – different to ours,” she adds.

“So you knew he’d be looking after them?” demands Mathew, but at the same time maintains that there is no problem.

"Misbehaving at the stag?"

Kelly encounters Cai, who is having a drink.   “Hair of the dog, is it?   After misbehaving at the stag?”   He wonders what she has heard, but she replies there is nothing.

Gay nr amd Tom approach

Gaynor and Tom approach 

"Free drink each for the bride and groom"

and Kelly provides them with a free drink each for the bride and groom.   “Is that a good idea?   She’s already had quite a lot,” comments Tom, 

"I only had one glass"

but Gaynor protests that she has only had one glass.   “More like a barrel!” he laughs.

"I wouldn't even have had that if you weren't late"

“I wouldn’t have even had one drink if you hadn’t been late,” she complains, but he says that some people are too busy to spend all afternoon in the pub.   

"Too busy doing what, Tom?"

Cai pipes up, “Too busy doing what, Tom?”

Kelly tries to defuse the situation, pointing out that they are here to celebrate;  “Happily ever after and all that – eh?”

"What was that all about?"

When they have gone, Kelly turns to Cai and demands, “What was that all about?”   She is told that she really does not want to know.

"I can't come to the wedding now . . ."

Then Gaynor comes across Ffion, who says that they need to talk to;  “I definitely can’t come to the wedding now.   

". . . Val isn't well at all"

“Val isn’t well at all  – I’m so sorry to let you down.”   Gaynor accepts that it is the right thing for Ffion to do.

Tom plays along with this, hoping that Val will be better soon, as he grins at Ffion.   

"Could you help me with this barrel?"

Kelly calls to Tom, “Could you help me with this barrel?   It’s really heavy.   You’ve had a free drink – come on.”

"Feminists until you need some help!"

Tom is reluctant to go and growls, “You’re all feminists until you need some help!”   

Gaynor is now in tears

When Ffion can stop herself staring at Tom, she notices that Gaynor is in tears.

"I'm so disappointed!"

“I’m just so disappointed, Ffion,” she sobs, “You know, losing a friend over Christmas – and I’m stuck in this place – I feel like I am sometimes.”

"Has something happened?"

Ffion asks if something has happened, 

"I've made such a mess of things"

but Gaynor continues wailing, “I’ve made such a mess of things.”   

"You've had too much to drink" 

Unfortunately, Tom has by now rejoined them and finds Gaynor in this state, again accusing her of having too much to drink and wanting to go home.

"No, I want to stay here"

“No, I want to stay here,” she argues, 

Nevertheless, he takes her home

but he is insistent, as usual, and they walk away, 

Ffion watches them go

with Ffion looking concerned.   

Cai comes across to ask, “What was that all about?   Is Gaynor all right?”   

"She's just drunk"

Ffion plays along with the story that she is drunk.   

"I don't know why they're together"

“I don’t know why they’re together,” Cai sighs 

She is definitely uncomfortable 

and Ffion looks distinctly uncomfortable.

"Look at the state of you!"

When they arrive back at Llwyncelyn, Tom growls, “Look at the state of you,” and, as always, Gaynor says that she is sorry.   

"Are you sorry about bothering Ffion as well?"

“Are you sorry about bothering Ffion as well?”

"I just wanted to talk to a friend"

Gaynor argues that she just wanted to talk to a friend, 

"You're a nightmare when you're drunk!"

but he continues to condemn her, “You’re a nightmare when you’re drunk – you’ve embarrassed me and yourself this afternoon.”

Gaynor produces the tablets

She takes the box of tablets from her pocket, suspecting that they may be to blame;  “Aren’t you glad – that I’m taking control and being less pathetic?”   He demands where she got them and she tells him.

"Antidepressants without a prescription?|

“You’re taking antidepressants without a prescription?” he rages, but she said that she just wants to feel like herself again.   

"Go and sober up, will you?"

“Go and sober up, will you?” he orders her, so she goes upstairs.

All this controlling is taking its toll on Tom

He sits down on the sofa, in a turmoil, 

What will he do next?

wondering what to do next.   

Suffer from hallucinations, by the look of it

The camera moves to the left and we see that Cheryl is sitting at the other end of the sofa;  “She’s a bit of a liability, isn’t she?   

"What are you going to do now, Dave?"

“What are you going to do now, Dave?”

He looks as if he has seen – or rather imagined – a ghost.
