Gaynor looks at a photo . . .

Gaynor is looking at an old picture of the family 

. . . and remembers better times

and is feeling very nostalgic.    

She looks at the bruise . . .

She gets up from her seat and looks in the mirror to see whether the bruise is still conspicuous, which it is, 

. . . which will take some concealing

so she begins to apply some concealer, a painful process.

"It was wonderful, Siôn"

At the breakfast table in the shop flat, Britt thanks Siôn for making breakfast;  “It was wonderful.”   He is glad that she enjoyed it.   She continues, “It means everything that you’re here today, you know, because the end of the year hasn’t been very special.”

"There's no need to talk about that now"

He insists that there is no need to talk about that now, 

"I'm so glad you're here"

but she simply wants him to know that she is very grateful that he is there.  

"Have you finished your breakfast?"

Huwi-John comes in, excitedly asking, “Have you finished breakfast yet?”   He is anxious to open his presents.

"We don't open presents until the afternoon"

“Hang on a minute – we don’t open our presents until the afternoon,” says Siôn;  

"Please, Siôn!"

this causes some consternation and Huwi-John begs to be allowed, so Siôn acquiesces.

"Perhaps we can start some new traditions"

The boy starts unwrapping a large box as Eileen suggests, “Perhaps we can start some new traditions next year.”   Siôn would like that.

"Wow – a skateboard!"

Huwi-John finds to his delight that he has a new skateboard and goes to look at his other presents.

"I'd like the year to finish on a happy note"

Siôn sits down by Eileen;  “Listen, I know the last year hasn’t been very easy, but I’d like it to finish on a happy note.”   

They kiss

She agrees with this and they kiss.

Colin is in a hurry

Colin comes rushing out of the door of the MFC flat in a terrible hurry;  

"Where are you going?"

Britt follows him and demands, “Colin – are you all right?   Where are you going?   You can’t just run off without an explanation.”

He replies, “It’s here,” and turns to go, but she wants more explanation.   

"The snow machine!"

“The snow machine – I told the delivery guy he didn’t need to leave Cross Hands until around ten, but did he listen?   No!   I don’t know if I’m coming or going.”

"We're supposed to visit Catrin"

Britt is worried when he will be back as they are supposed to phone Catrin, so he advises, “You phone her for a chat – 

"Santa Col wishes her Merry Christmas"

“and tell her that Santa Col wishes her a Merry Christmas.”   He rushes off round the corner.

Iolo is studying something

At Y Felin, Greta is opening her presents while Iolo is studying some notes he has made.   Lleucu wonders what he is doing;  

"Just trying to work the timings out"

“Just trying to work the timings out,” he replies, but she tells him not to stress, as no-one will judge him if the time is a bit off.

"Eileen will judge me"

“Eileen will judge me if the parsnips are ready before the goose – if the carrots are overdone – if the roast potatoes aren’t crispy,” he fears, “Sometimes I feel that I am on ‘Come Dine With Me’.

"Can I have a word, Iolo?"

Cai comes downstairs and would like a word with Iolo as he puts on his coat;  “I’m not sure if I’m going to be here for dinner,” he says, 

"A last-minute surprise"

which Iolo finds disconcerting, “I’m helping to organise a last-minute surprise for the wedding – and no one can know – 

"Start without me if I'm not back"

“so eat without me if I’m not back.”

Then he advises Lleucu that he is going out for a while, and will see her later.   

"But Dad . . ."

Before she can protest, he is out of the door, which makes her very disappointed, 

". . . I haven't given you this"

as he has not opened his present from her;  she jumps to the conclusion that he has gone to see Dani.

"Why do you think he's going to see Dani?"

“No, he said that he was going to help with the wedding – why do you think that he’s going to see Dani?   He won’t be long – don’t worry.”   

Lleucu is not convinced

She is not convinced.

Huwi-John is practising

Huwi-John is demonstrating his skateboard prowess in the alley, 

Colin tries to master the snow machine

while, outside the chapel, Colin is struggling to come to terms with the snow machine.   

"What is he doing?"

Eileen cannot understand what he is doing, so goes to investigate;  “I didn’t know we were going to have a storm today,” she says.

"It says this is a light flurry"

His instructions tell him that this is a ‘light flurry’, so he gives up and throws the instructions away.   

"Tom wants to create a winter wonderland"

He advises that Tom wanted to create a winter wonderland for Gaynor for the wedding later;  “I guarantee you she’ll be in tears seeing the snow dance when she arrives.”

"We're having a perfect Christmas at Penrhewl"

Eileen advises that she will not be there, as they are having a perfect Christmas at Penrhewl.   

Mathew has visited APD

Mathew comes out of APD and Eileen hopes that he is not working today, so he explains that Father Christmas did not supply batteries for the dog;  “Sioned bought this soft toy for Jac and Lili – it sings, talks, plays jokes – 

"it con't do anything without batteries"

“but it can’t do anything without batteries.”

Eileen imagines that Sioned sent him out before the tantrums start.   She concedes that he is very good with the children and has heard that he is cooking today.   

"Would you like some help?"

She offers her assistance as sous chef, 

"Our first Christmas as a proper family"

which he is very pleased to accept;  “It’s our first Christmas as a proper family.”   Eileen assures him that they will make it a perfect Christmas.

"Pity we don't sell sledges"

Mathew shouts across to Colin, “It’s a pity we don’t sell sledges, isn’t it?”

"I'm ging to Ethan's"

Mark is walking gloomily along the street when he encounters Arwen, who is on her way to her boyfriend’s house with a present.   

"Then w're going to Nain Val's"

“Then we’re going to Nain Val’s,” she adds without any enthusiasm.   Madge and her husband pass, with a pram, presumably containing a grandchild.

Cassie comes out for the Deri

Cassie comes out of the Deri 

"Have you seen the big show?"

and comments to Mark, “Have you seen the big show?   

"Why do they need to make such a fuss?"

“Why do they need to make such a fuss?”

Tom is watching . . .

Tom, in the site hut, is looking very serious 

. . . Ffion's rampage

as he reviews the CCTV footage of Ffion going on her rampage.   

He will have to do something

He concludes that he needs to do something about it, 

He looks over his shoulder . . . 

looking over his shoulder at the cabinet, 

. . . at Cheryl's current resting-place

with the spade leaning up against it.

"I only bought you two small presents"

“Goodness, I feel ashamed – I only bought you two small presents,” says Eileen;  

"Are you going to try it on?"

Siôn has bought her another black negligee and suggests that she should try it on, 

"Not while Huwi is here"

but she reminds him that Huwi is there, 

"I have to help Mathew"

plus she has promised to go early to help Mathew with the cooking.

"We're having dinner at Y Felin"

“Mathew?   We’re having dinner in Y Felin,” Siôn reminds her.

She is adamant that they are going to Penrhewl;  

"No – at Penrhewl"

“I told you weeks ago that we were going to Sioned and Mathew.   You’ll have to explain to Iolo, then.”

Siôn explains that Iolo has gone to a lot of trouble, and it is pointed out that Mathew has done the same.   

"Greta is looking forward to it"

“And Greta is looking forward to it.”

"Huwi has learned a new carol"

“Huwi has learned a new carol especially, to perform it,” says Eileen.

"What time do you usually have Christmas dinner"?"

“What time do you usually have Christmas dinner?” Siôn asks, and is told that it is about three o’clock.   “It’s tight, but if I ask Iolo to prepare an early dinner, we can do both.”

"Two Christmas dinners?"

Eileen cannot believe that he is serious;  Two Christmas dinners?   Are you mad?”   Siôn is adamant that they do not want to let one side of the family down, 

"No-one else needs to know"

adding that no-one else needs to know.

Britt loks at the dove

Britt is looking at the dove hanging from the Christmas tree when Colin returns, 

"That took a lot longer than expected"

profusely apologising, “That took a lot longer than expected!”   she assumes that he found the off switch for the snow machine in the end.

"So we can open our presents"

Now she wants him to sit down so they can open the rest of their presents, but he does not have time.   

"Tom wants me to double-check"

“Tom wants me to double-check a hundred things before the wedding.”   She wonders why Tom cannot do it himself, but Colin says that he has been told something has come up at the last minute.

Christmas is being postponed

“Look, I think we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to celebrate Christmas – I’m so sorry.”   

Colin's phone sounds

Then his phone sounds, 

"I don't want to be stuck here on my own!"

and as Britt protests that she does not want to be stuck there on her own on Christmas morning, 

Colin hurries to the bedroom

he hurries to the bedroom and shuts the door.

Mathew and Sioned with the twins

Mathew and Sioned are playing with the twins;  the present wrappings are lying all around.   “Are you happy with everything you’ve had from Father Christmas?” Sioned asks Lili, 

Sioned is shattered

“I’m glad I worked so hard to afford everything – even though I’m shattered.”

"Your Mam can't help with the cooking"

Mathew receives a message from Eileen;  “She says she can’t help with the cooking,” so Sioned says that he she will do that herself.   He is insistent that she should put her feet up today and he will be fine.   

They kiss

He kisses her.

“Are you sure it’s all right that I’ve invited, Mam, Siôn and Huwi?” she asks 

"I'm looking forward to it"

and he says that he is looking forward to it.   It will be a chance for the whole family to be together.   

"I have a surprise for you later"

“I’m glad you said that – I hope you like the surprise I’ve organised for you later,” she continues, but will not give him any hints about what it is.

"I want you home, Arwen!"

Ffion is talking to Arwen on the phone, complaining, “You’ve had plenty of time with Ethan now, Arwen.   I want you home because we need to leave – 

"No, you don't have time for a nut roast!"

“no, you don’t have time to stay for a nut roast.   Come home now!”

Tom sneaks in

As she is speaking, the back door opens and Tom walks in, carrying the spade.   

"So it's just the two of us, then . . ."

“So it’s just the two of us, then,” he snarls, 

"Merry Christmas, Ffion"

“Merry Christmas, Ffion.”

Liv is at Y Felin

Liv, who is now visibly pregnant, has arrived at Y Felin and is informed by Iolo that Greta will be downstairs in a minute;  she is putting on her ‘glad-rags’.   Liv has brought a present for Greta, but he says that she can give the present to Greta herself 

"Why have you put 'Auntie Liv'?"

and wonders why she has written ‘from Auntie Liv.’

"I wasn't sure what else to put"

She was not sure what else to put, but is assured by Iolo 

"You can call yourself 'Mam' if you want"

that she can call herself ‘Mam’ if she wants.   She is very pleased to hear that and tells him that it means a lot.   He invites her to sit down.

"Merry Christmas!"

Greta comes downstairs, followed by Lleucu, and wishes them, “Merry Christmas.”   

Liv is introduced to Lleucu

Greta hugs her mother

and Iolo tells Greta to go and give her mother a cwtch.

The dinner guests arrive

There is a knock at the door, and Iolo goes to admit Eileen, Siôn and Huwi.   Iolo is surprised that they are so early, but Siôn reminds him that they said they wanted an early dinner.   

"I didn't realise you wanted it this early"

“I didn’t realise you wanted it this early.”   Siôn says that the sooner the better, with Eileen adding that they are starving.

Liv will help in the kitchen

Iolo says that Liv can help him with the posh wine they have in the kitchen.   Lleucu informs Huwi that there are a few things there for him under the tree.   

"I don't want to be late to Penrhewl"

Eileen anxiously tells Siôn, “I don’t want to be late to Penrhewl,” but he is sure that they will be there in plenty of time, 

"Just keep room for two of everything"

adding that she should keep room for two of everything.

Tom is frightening Ffion 

At Deri Fawr, Tom is in a threatening mood;  he strikes the spade on one of the oak beams 

"What were you looking for?"

and growls, “Don’t try to deny it, Ffion – you were on the CCTV, trashing the place and I want to know why.   What were you looking for?   Answer me!”

She replies that she was not looking for anything;  

"You used me, Tom!"

“I was trashing the place!   Because you used me, Tom!   I swallowed your lies, time after time – 

"You had no intention of leaving Gaynor!"

“you had no intention of leaving Gaynor.   I was so naïve – 

"I don't know why Gaynor wants to marry you"

“and I don’t know why Gaynor wants to marry you, when she knows exactly what sort of bloke you are.”

"What did you tell her?"

He is surprised that she has been talking to Gaynor;  “What did you tell her?”   

"I didn't need to – she already know"

Ffion answers that she did not need to say anything as Gaynor already knew about the affair.

"And you were happy to confirm it"

“And you were only too happy to confirm it,” he sneers, 

"I'd be happier if she cancelled the wedding"

but she is adamant that she would be happier if Gaynor was going to cancel the wedding.   

"She wouldn't do that!"

“She wouldn’t do that!” he says.

"Why do you think she'd do if she found out . . ."

“Wouldn’t she?   What do you think she’d do if she found out that you’d been here with me today – on the morning of the wedding?”   

"Don't you dare!"

She begins to make a call to Gaynor, but he grabs her, warning her not to dare.

"What are you going to do?   Hit me over the head with that shovel?"

“Why?   What are you going to do?   Hit me over the head with that shovel?” she demands, 

He forces her to drop the phone

as he twists her arm and forces her to drop the phone.

"It wouldn't be the first time!"

“It wouldn’t be the first time!” he rather unwisely growls;  

"It was you!"

she suddenly comes to the realisation that is what happened in the woods some time ago.

Colin is going out again

Colin comes out of the MFC flat again 

. . . running this time . . .

and runs along the street, but once more, 

. . . but Britt is in pursuit

Britt has noticed and follows him.   

She can see where he is heading

Looking around the corner, she proceeds along the High Street.  

Colin has just left for the chapel

From the window of the Deri flat, Cai has been keeping watch and reports that Colin has left for the chapel, 

"Right, we'd better go to Llwyncelyn"

so Cassie proposes that they had better leave for Llwyncelyn.   Cai maintains that it is better to be early, then they can wait in the car until Gaynor leaves, then they go straight in.

Mark is reluctant

Mark is very apprehensive, 

"Remember why we're doing this"

but Cassie reminds him why they are doing this, then they set off on their mission.

Colin drives at the chapel . . .

Colin opens the door of the chapel and looks with astonishment, adjusting his tie 

. . . where Elin Fflur is waiting

as he goes to meet the special guest, Elin Fflur, advising her that he has been communicating with her by e-mail.   

"Pleased to meet you, Colin"

She is very pleased to meet him.   “I love everything you do,” he enthuses, “All the songs – Harbwr Diogel [Safe Harbour], Ysbryd Efnisien, [Efnisien’s Ghost] – all of them.   

He appears to be besotted with her

“And then Heno on the telly box every night, Can y Gymru [Song of`Wales], Sgwrs Dan y Lleuad [Conversations under the Moon] – everything.”

Britt is not far behind . . .

While he is saying this, Britt arrives;  Elin suspects that Colin has been reading her CV and he continues that he has been a big fan of hers from the very start.

. . . and infiltrates herself into the conversation

Of course BT is anxious to get in on the act and announces herself as Britt, his wife.   

"You have to sort things out, Col"

She reminds Colin that he has to go and sort out a few things before Gaynor arrives, so she can look after Elin Fflur until the ceremony.

"Gaynor will be delighted!"

He continues to say how grateful he is that she could come, “All the way from Benllech [a town in Anglesey] on Christmas Day.   Gaynor will be delighted!”

She replies that it is nice to sing in Cwmderi for the first time;  he insists that anything she wants will be supplied, but Britt tells him to go.   

"Is there a chance of a selfie?"

“I can’t help but ask – is there a chance of a selfie?” he asks and Elin is pleased to oblige.   

Britt does not get a look in

He does his best to keep Britt out of the picture.

Gaynor in her green wedding dress . . .

Gaynor comes downstairs in her rather unusual green wedding dress

. . . is greeted by Hywel and Esther

 to where Hywel is waiting, together with Esther, who we have not seen for ages.   Hywel is of the opinion that Tom is a very lucky man.   

Ganor is given flowers

Esther presents her with some flowers.

Rhys is all ready to take Esther back to the airport and Hywel needs to be at the chapel before the bride.   

"You look fabulous"

Esther says, “You look fabulous.”   They leave the house, wishing Gaynor good luck.   

The smiles have gone now

However, once they have left, she does not look so happy

The first dinner is under way

At Y Felin, where Eileen is doing her best to limit her consumption, Siôn raises a toast to Iolo for creating a tasty feast his mother would have been proud of – and also to Eileen, who insists that she has not done anything.

“Just being yourself is enough,” he goes on, 

Iolo and Lleucu look at each other 

which makes Iolo and Lleucu look at each other.

"Dad's not answering"

Lleucu keeps looking at her phone, anxious that her father is not answering.   Iolo reminds her that he told them to start without him;  

"He can have a plate of food when he comes back"

he can have a plate of food when he gets back, as there is plenty.

When asked if she wants any more, Eileen is is eager to refuse, 

"Can I have more potatoes?"

but Huwi would like some more potatoes;  this request is overruled by Eileen, on the pretext that he needs to leave room for the pudding.

"Yes, exactly – because there are three!"

“Yes, exactly,” says Iolo, “Because there are three – tiramisu, Mam-gu’s sherry trifle and cheesecake.   Greta has helped with them all.   Have a big piece of each one – I don’t want any going to waste.”   

This is going to be difficult

Eileen and Siôn imagine that this may cause some problems.

The opration has begun

The trio walk down Gaynor’s garden to try to discover the truth;  

Cassie will investigate the shed . . . 

“Right, you two carry on here and I’ll go to the shed,” Cassie tells them.   

. . . while they get on with the digging

They begin what they hope will be a grisly task.

Tom makes his appearance at Bethania 

Tom bursts into the chapel, where, noticeably, there is no congregation, only Elin Fflur, her guitarist, Hywel and the Church Minister.   

"At last!"

“At last!” comments Hywel, “I was starting to worry that you weren’t going to turn up!”

"A little emergency came up"

Tom says that a little emergency came up, 

"Is it sorted now?"

but that everything is sorted now.

They arrive for dinner number two

At Penrhewl, Siôn and Eileen arrive in the car;  

"Why did you let Iolo give me another bowl of trifle?"

she moans, “I still don’t understand why you let Iolo give me another bowl of trifle.”   He points out that she said she was enjoying it.

“I’m full already and now we have to do it all over again,” she goes on, 

"Huwi-John said you were starving"

as Howard comes out of the farmhouse.   He advises that he will not be joining them, but will be going to the Deri.   He says that Huwi-John told him that they were starving, so it is lucky that Mathew has prepared a feast.   

"Enjoy your dinner"

He hopes that they enjoy their dinner.

Cassie looks at the contents of the shed . . . 

In the shed, Cassie is looking through various boxes, although finding little of interest;  

. . . but when she turns to the other side . . .

then she turns to the other side, pulling out some things 

. . . this box looks significant . . . 

and comes across a box of miscellaneous items, which she thinks may be useful.

. . . with its Wrexham scarf

On the top is a photograph together with a Wrexham scarf.   She immediately goes out into the garden to summon Cai and Mark.   

The excavation has not been successful . . .

They have, of course, not come up with anything, 

. . . but they stop . . . 

but she tells them to follow her, 

. . . and follow Cassie up the path

which they do without delay.

Mark looks at the phone from the box

Mark recognises certain of the things, such as Cheryl’s phone, which still works.   Cassie maintains that having her phone is enough evidence to go to the police, but Mark discovers that everything has been deleted.

“The swine has covered his tracks again!” Cassie snarls; 

Then there is a doorbell camera . . .

however Cai has found something else, a doorbell camera.

“Was this at the front door?”   Mark says that it will not be much use as Tom has cleared the app on the phone.   

. . . which contains a memory card

“There’s an SD card in here – memory card – there might still be videos from Maes-y-Deri on it.   Mark is convinced that he will have deleted that as well, but they will go and find out, taking the box and its contents with them, as well as the spades.

The snow machine is hard at work . . .

Outside the chapel, the snow machine is doing its job as a vintage car arrives and Colin opens the door.

Gaynor is very impressed by the snow, which Colin explains is a surprise.   “Tom wants you to have the perfect Christmas wedding,” he says

Britt takes some photographs

Britt takes a few photographs before they go into the chapel;  “You’ll want to remember this moment,” insists Colin, 

"There's another surprise inside"

adding that there is another surprise inside.

"Shall we go in?"

They walk in through the chapel door.
