Props for the Sgrechffest are being carried

As a car passes in the rain, Mark, Lleucu and Howard are carrying boxes towards the Deri.

Jinx watches them . . .

Jinx comes out of the deli

. . . heading for the Deri

and watches them.

“Well, I hope you’ve got enough stuff,” says Kath as they enter and Lleucu is very grateful that they have been allowed to use the Deri.

"I should be thanking you two"

“No, I should be thanking you two for helping our Mark,” Kath replies.

"We have to put the decorations up"

Mark says that they need to put the decorations up before the big day tomorrow;

"We're not paying for here"

Lleucu comments, “You did us a favour by forgetting to pay the deposit for Yr Antur.   We’re not paying for here, so you’ll have more money to pay the solicitor.”   They start over in the corner.

"What'e the new solicitor like?"

Kath asks Mark what the new solicitor is like;

"If she's worth half of what she's charging . . ."

“Well, if she’s worth half as much as she’s charging, she’ll be incredible,” is his answer.   His mother invites him to come upstairs with her,

"I won't be long, OK?'`

so he tells the others that he will not be long.

"Has Mam been in today?"

Sioned comes into the deli and asks the girl on duty behind the counter whether her mother has been in today;

"No, she phoned in sick"

“No, she phoned in sick,” is the reply, which does not surprise Sioned.   Iolo is also there and reports that he has not seen his father either.

“They must have been on the Beaujolais last night!” says Sioned, but Iolo informs her that Beaujolais Day is not for weeks yet.

"That won't stop them, will it?"

“I know that, but it won’t stop them, will it?   Have you seen their recycling bins mid-week?   They’re full of wine bottles.”

"You're adopting again?"

Then she remembers that he is adopting again, which she regards as lovely;

"Look at these prices?"

“I’ll tell you what’s not lovely – these pram prices,” he complains,

"I regret getting rid of Greta's stuff"

“I regret getting rid of all Greta’s baby stuff.”

"You're welcome to give it a test drive . . ."

Sioned tells him that she got her pram from that shop in Cwrtmynach;  he is welcome to give it a test drive.   “I’m picking up the twins from the crèche now –

". . . you can push the pram back to Penrhewl"

“you can push the pram back to Penrhewl.”

Kath puts down an envelope

In the Deri flat, Kath makes her son a cup of coffee and puts an envelope on the table.

"A little something to help with the costs"

What’s this?” he asks, so she replies that it is coffee, then adds that it is a little something to help with the costs.

"There's loads in here!"

When he looks into the envelope, he gasps, “There’s loads in here.   Where did you get it all?”

"I sold the bike and sidecar"

“I sold the bike and the sidecar,” Kath tells him,

"It's my mess, Mam"

but he protests that she should not have done that, as it is his mess.

"And you're my mess, aren't you?"

She responds, “And you’re my mess, aren’t you?   So . . .”

"I should have listened to you"

He admits that he should have listened to his mother from the start and not said anything, but she does not agree;  “You did the right thing by confessing – but you don’t deserve to go down for GBH.”

He is very grateful to his mother.

"You'd better get down to help"

“Right, you’d better get back downstairs to help,” she tells him and he does so.   Kath is definitely worried.

"What did she say, then?"

“Is the family meeting over,” Howard enquires, “What did she say, then?”   Lleucu instructs him that she wants less talking and more working.   “You’re obviously the daughter of a teacher!” he observes,

"I want to help, Mark"

then Jinx comes in, carrying a box, saying that he wants to help.

"W're meant to stay away from each other"

“You know the bail conditions – we’re meant to stay away from each other,” Mark points out, but Jinx promises that he will not tell anyone;

"I thought you might want these"

he just thought Mark might want these items – Hallowe’en stuff from the children’s club.

"You can help in court next week"

Howard interrupts to say, “If you really want to help, you can do that in court next week.”   Mark thanks Jinx, adding that the stuff will be a big help.

Brynmor comes in

Brynmor comes in and approaches Kath at the bar,

"What can I get you?"

asking for a coffee, if there is one going.

"Is everything all right?"

He asks her if everything is all right, so she replies, “Our Mark might be going to jail next week –

"Apart from that, everything's hunky-dory"

“apart from that everything’s hunky-dory.”

"Did you get a tidy price?"

He wonders if she got a tidy price for the bike and sidecar;  she agrees that she did and thanks him.   “Listen, if things don’t go in Mark’s favour next week,

"I'm always here for you, you know"

“I’m always here for you – you know that, don’t you?   I took an oath when we married and promised to look after you – and that won’t change because of this divorce.”

"Not now, Brynmor, please"

She stops him there, “Not now, Brynmor, please.”

"I'm sorry for everything"

He admits that he is sorry for everything and regrets what he did, maintaining that he is paying the price now.

"It's a shame you didn't realise that before"

“It’s a shame you didn’t realise that before things got as bad as they are,” is Kath’s evaluation, “But you know what they say, there’s no point crying over spilt milk.”

"What's going on here, then?"

He changes the subject to ask what is going on and Kath informs him, “Sgrechffest – do you want a ticket?   It would help Mark.”   He replies that he will buy a couple later, but, in the meantime, if the preparations get too much for Kath,

"You're welcome to call in"

she is welcome to call into the office for a coffee with him if she would like – adding that he does not charge.

"I do charge – £2.70"

“But I do,” she says, “£2.70,” placing the contactless machine in front of him.

Kelly has bought a bottle of whisky

Kelly is in the deli, purchasing a bottle of whisky and paying for it with her phone.

"That's Dad's favourite"

Eleri bustles in and pointedly comments, “That’s Dad’s favourite!   But you already knew that, didn’t you?   Have you bought it for him?”

"None of your business!"

“None of your business!” snarls Kelly.

"What's this 'thing' you have for Dad?"

Eleri continues by demanding what is this ‘thing’ Kelly has for her father,

"We're friends"

but Kelly simply laughs and once again points out that they are friends

“Dad isn’t just friends with anyone – he uses people to get what he wants.

"What on earth does he want from you – unless . . ."

“What I can’t work out is what on earth he wants from you – unless you are actually . . .”

“Your Dad’s a good bloke – he’s supportive, he builds me up,” says Kelly.

“He writes job applications for you,” Eleri sneers.

"Seriously, what is your problem?"

“Seriously, what is your problem?” Kelly wants to know, so is told that she would never have got that job at Brynawelon unless someone had written the application for her.

"I did a blinding interview, all right?"

“I did a blinding interview, all right?   And they loved me at the induction meeting I’ve just been to.  I think perhaps they were looking for someone with a bit of feeling, you know?   Someone with a bit of heart to look after those old people.”

"I'd say you've got too many feelings"

Eleri remarks, “I’d say you’ve got too many ‘feelings’ for them – but watch yourself, or people will think you’re trying to take advantage.”

"You know what I can't understand?"

As Kelly is about to leave, she adds, “You know what I can’t understand?

"How can you come from the same gene pool?"

“How can you come from the same gene pool as that lovely man you call your father?”

Eleri smiles

Eleri simply smiles.

Brynmor opens the office

Brynmor enters the Quantum Hydro Works office and Kelly follows him in;  he was not expecting to see her today.

"A little something to say thank you"

“Here you are – little something to say thank you for helping me with the application form.”

He says that it is his favourite and wonders how she knew;  “I had my suspicions —

"Eleri confirmed my suspicions"

“and Eleri confirmed them just now.   She really doesn’t like me, you know.”

"Why do you say that?"

Brynmor wonders why she says that.

"We're friends – and that's all it is?"

“We’re friends, aren’t we?   And that’s all it is?” demands Kelly.

He cannot understand what else it could be, “Or what else did Eleri say it was, I should ask?”

"She said you use people"

“She said that you use people,” so he enquires whether she thinks he is using her.   “No, I really don’t, but I’m just not always on the ball with things like that, you know?”

"We're not on good terms at the moment"

He points out what Kelly already knows;  that he and Eleri are not on good terms at the moment.   She is saying these things because she is angry with him and she wants to create trouble.

"I can handle Eleri, right?"

“Yeah – perhaps,” sighs Kelly, “But I don’t want you to have a word with her – absolutely not – I can handle Eleri, right?”

"I like spending time with you, Kelly"

Brynmor says that he likes spending time with Kelly as he takes down two glasses from the shelf;

“And I don’t expect anything from you, no whisky or anything.”   In that case, she jokes that she will have the bottle back, but he maintains it is too late for that now.

"Do you want a small whisky?"

“But, honestly now, ignore Eleri – and anyone else who has an opinion on our friendship – this relationship is our business.   So do you want a small whisky?”

"Not on an empty stomach"

“Not on an empty stomach,” she answers, so he proposes that they go for lunch

"How much work do you actually do in this office?"

They are leaving the office as she asks, “How much work do you actually do in this office – because you’ve literally just arrived, like?”

"Isn't that nice of Jinx?"

Lleucu is very complimentary about Jinx having brought over that stuff to help,

"It was to make himself feel better"

but Howard sneers, “He brought over a couple of decorations to make himself feel better.”   She points out that he did not have to do that, to which he replies,

"He didn't have to sleep with Eleri{"

“He didn’t have to sleep with Eleri behind Dani’s back, either – or backstab the village by helping Quantum Hydro Works.   Jinx started all this.”

"Come on – don't argue . . ."

Mark pleads with them not to argue, but Howard insists that he is on Mark’s side here.   Mark does not want to discuss the case,

". . . this is meant to be a positive event"

arguing, “This is meant to be a positive event, so let’s try and have some fun.”

Howard startles them

Howard has found a mask and jumps out, startling Lleucu.

Sioned is very pleased with her pram

At Penrhewl, Sioned is extolling the virtues of her pram;  “It’s easy to fold, the twins are comfortable in it and it’s got loads of compartments – I don’t think I’ve found them all yet.”

"That's cheap!"

However, when she announces that she paid £600 for it, he regards it as cheap and regrets getting rid of Greta’s old pram now.   “You weren’t to know that Liv was going to turn up with baby number two,” Sioned reminds him.

"No-one could have predicted my bonkers life!"

“No-one could have predicted the path of my bonkers life!” he groans.

"Tyler would have loved it"

Sioned is sure that Tyler would have loved the fact that the family is growing, but then realises that she has touched a nerve, but he assures her that it is all right.

Iolo is becoming tearful

“I’m always thinking what Tyler would have to say about all this,” says Iolo, becoming quite tearful, so Sioned searches for some tissues in all those compartments, but is unable to find any.

He looks in the pram

Iolo also searches and comes across a piece of paper.

"Sioned – what's this?"

“Sioned – what’s this?” he says,

She has no idea

as he shows her a card

A 'Golden Ticket'

with the words ‘Tocyn Aur[Golden Ticket] and a phone number.

There is a knock at the door

Jinx is preparing his meal at number 9 when there is a knock at the door and he finds that it is Kath, who he is surprised to see.

"Listen, about next week"

“I’m not staying,” she tells him, “Listen, about next week . . .”

"I don't know what you expect me to do"

Jinx immediately says that he does not want to see Mark go to prison, but he does not know what she expects him to do about it;  “I can’t lie.”

"That's not exactly what I'm asking"

That is not exactly what she is asking for, but . . .

"He has already confessed"

Jinx points out that he has already confessed to the police, so there is nothing he can do.   Kath is sure that there must be something.

“I can’t lie – expecting me to do that is unfair, so please,” he continues, about to open the door.

"Unless he was pushed into it"

“I know he’s an idiot and I know that he can be a liability, but our Mark would never have done such a thing unless he was pushed into it – do you know what I mean?”

Jinx is speechless

Jinx does not know what to say to that.

Another member of staff

Eleri is in the deli – and we see that a man is also employed there now –

"Do you fancy coming to this Sgrechffest thing?"

as Kelly and Brynmor come in for their lunch.   “Do you fancy coming to this Sgrechffest thing in the Deri with me tomorrow?” he asks Kelly,

"I'm not sure exactly what it is"

“I’m not sure exactly what it is, but I’ve promised to buy tickets.”   This makes Kelly laugh.

"Home help on a date with a patient?"

Eleri pipes up, “I didn’t know the home help was allowed to go on dates with their patients – you used to live at Brynawelon, didn’t you?   And, as you’re technically homeless, it might not be long until you’re back there.”

"Stop right there, Eleri"

Brynmor instructs her to stop right now,

"To get a discount on the rent"

but she goes on, “That’s why you helped Kelly get the job – to get a discount on the rent.”

"Right, listen up, Ler . . ."

“Right, listen up, Leri –

". . . sorry, EH-leri – you're all mouth!"

sorry, EH-leri – you’re a classic case of all mouth, no substance, aren’t you?   The thing is, see, if you were suited for the job, you would have got the job – and then you wouldn’t have to spend your days at a café, playing – I don’t know – solitaire? –

"Spouting venom"

and spouting venom to whoever walks in through the door.   Let’s go somewhere else!”

Brynmor is about to leave

She walks out, followed by Brynmor,

"Go after her like a little lapdog"

with Eleri commenting, “Yes, go after her like a little lapdog.”

"Keep your nose out of my business, please"

Brynmor walks towards her, instructing her, “Keep your nose out of my business, please.”

"With pleasure"

“With pleasure," she replies.

"I had no idea about the competition"

Sioned has phoned the number on the card;  “No, I had no idea about the competition – it was hiding in the pram under everything.   I bought it a year ago – yes, I know.

"Wow – that's incredible!"

“What?   That’s incredible – OK, thanks.”

She explains to Iolo that the shop was running a competition to find the golden ticket and win a voucher worth £500.

"All you need it to show this"

“All you need to do is show this – I’ve already got a pram.”

"You use it for something else"

Iolo tells her to use it for something else.

"It might a sign from someone"

“Iol, don’t you think that fate has led you here today to find this?   Or it might be a sign from someone.”

"Are you sure about this?"

He sits down and asks if she is sure about this.   “Look, I know Tyler is not here to help you through this, but that doesn’t mean you’re on your own.

"It takes a village"

“You know what they say, ‘It takes a village’.”

"But if the village in question is Cwmderi . . ."

“Yeah, but if the village in question is Cwmderi, all I can say to the little one is good luck!” Iolo comments.

Eleri is served by Geraint

Geraint serves Eleri with her drink just as Jinx comes in and she demands, “How long is this nonsense going to go on?

"What's wrong with you now?"

What’s wrong with you now?”

"I feel sorry for poor Mark . . ."

“It’s just this court case – I feel sorry for poor Mark.”   Eleri points out that he should not have attacked Jinx.

". . . he'a not a bad bloke, is he?"

“Yes, but he’s not a bad bloke, is he?”

“You ended up in hospital because of what he did,” she complains,

"He went to the police and confessed"

“Anyway, he went to the police and confessed everything – what did he expect?”

The decorations light up

It appears that the decorations have been finished, so Lleucu asks Geraint to turn off the lights and they appear to be satisfied with the result.   Jinx remarks, “It’s nice to see him smiling, isn’t it?”

Then Mark has a phone call

Just then there is a phone call for Mark from the solicitor;  “Do you have good news for me, or what?

"Oh!   Thanks for letting me know"

“Oh!   Yeah, OK – thanks for letting me know.”

"The CPS is sticking to GBH!"

He advises that the CPS has rejected the request and will be sticking to GBH;

"I have no hope now – Sgrechffest is over!"

“There we are, I have no hope now – well, we’re cancelling all this nonsense – just cancel it.   Sgrechffest is over!”

He leaves the Deri . . .

He storms out of the Deri,

. . . with everyone watching

as everyone looks in horror.

Kelly likes the nibbles

Brynmor is pouring out some whisky, while Kelly is helping herself to the nibbles, which she describes as delicious.

"Good food, good company"

“Good food, good company,” says Brynmor, “I enjoyed watching you put Eleri in her place.”

"Years of practice being gobby!"

“Years of practice being gobby, isn’t it?”

That is one of the things that Brynmor likes about Kelly;

"The fire"

“The fire – and I’m not just talking about your hair.”

Uh-oh – this is looking ominous

They look into each others eyes – and we can all see what is coming next –

Kelly kisses him . . .

“Kelly kisses him.

. . . and someone is watching

Of course at this moment there is someone watching through the door of the office – none other than Kath, who walks away in disgust.

Brynmor appears worried

Both Kelly and Brynmor realise that they have overstepped the mark,

"You're still in love with Kath"

with Kelly commenting, “Kath – you’re still in love with her.

"I'd better go"

“I’d better go.”

She puts down her whisky and leaves the office,

She leaves Brynmor alone with his thoughts

as Brynmor feels guilty.
