Waiting for the taxi

As they wait outside for the taxi to arrive, Britt comments that it is warmer outside than in that room, so Cassie angrily replies, “Well, next time you can charm that barman to get us a free room!”

"If we called a taxi when I said . . ."

“But if we had called a taxi when I said, we wouldn’t feel so ill now,” Britt answers but they agree that they both had fun.

"Not as much fun as her!"

“Not as much as her, mind,” Cassie adds, as they see Eileen very gingerly walking down the steps, “Where did you disappear to?”

“I was feeling so ill, I got a room instead of going home,” is Eileen’s reply;

"Bedwyr was rubbing your back all night?"

Britt imagines that Bedwyr was rubbing her back all night.   “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” alleges Eileen.

"You have to be honest with us"

“Listen, if we’re going to be business partners, you have to be honest with us,” Cassie warns her,

"All right, I did spend the night with him"

so she reluctantly confesses that she did spend the night with him and does not know what came over her.

Britt, on the other hand, reckons that it was pretty obvious;

"You were selfish and not thinking about Siôn!"

“You were selfish and not thinking about Siôn!” although Cassie does not think that they need to be quite that honest.

“I know that Siôn’s boring, but he doesn’t deserve this!” Britt continues and Eileen is well aware of that;

"Do you think I should tell him?"

she wonders if she ought to tell him, but the opinions of the other two differ.

"Hey, Cai!"

Liv is walking along the street when Cai emerges from the shop;  she asks him what sort of sweets Greta likes, as she is on her way to see her now.

"Greta's not fussy"

Cai says that she is not fussy

"We're going to tell her about the baby"

and is told, “We’re going to tell her today about the baby.”

"Everything will be OK"

Cai offers her a lift up there and tells her not to worry as everything will be OK.

"Are you sure you don't want to see what's in it?"

At the kitchen table in Penrhewl, Mathew is looking at the envelope when Rhys brings two cups of tea;  “Are you sure you don’t want to see what’s in it?” Rhys asks, “Doesn’t a little part of you want to know what he’s left you?”

"I don't want anything to do with him!"

Mathew is adamant that he does not want anything to do with his grandfather.   “If so, why you keep it?   If you really thought that, you would have thrown it in the bin by now.

"So, are you here to stay this time?"|

“So, are you here to stay this time?”

"I don't have much choice, do I?"

Mathew replies that he does not have much choice, “Because wherever I go, this shadow follows me around.”

"That's how it will be if you don't deal with things"

“Well, that’s how it’s going to be if you don’t deal with things,” Rhys warns,

"Are you intending to see anyone?"

“Are you intending to see the GP?   A therapist?   Any professional?”

"Everything's the same as it was . . ."

Mathew says, “You know, when I was looking around APD when I came back, everything is exactly the same as it was – nothing’s changed –

". . . but I've changed"

“but I’ve changed, because I don’t fit in here any more.”

"That envelope might give you a bit of closure"

Rhys suggests that what is in that envelope might give him a bit of closure,

"Leave it, Rhys"

but Mathew simply puts the envelope into his pocket and tells Rhys to leave it.

"Are we going to the lock-up?"

Howard sees Mark in the deli and asks him whether they should go to the lock-up, as they need to move the rest of that stuff.

"No can do, boy"

Mark is unable to do it at the moment, until after Hallowe’en, as he is going to make a fortune by scaring half the valley.

"You don't stop, do you?"

Howard protests, “You don’t stop, do you?   You’ve got money-spinners coming out of your ears.”

Lleucu is listening in

Lleucu is sitting nearby

"It's better than sitting on my hands"

as Mark points out that it is better than sitting on his hands and accepting his fate.

“You think scaring half the Cwm will make you a millionaire, do you?” Howard demands.

"Screamfest – £20 per head!"

Mark proposes, “Sgrechffest!” [Screamfest!] – a frighteningly good experience, £20 per head!”

"Hey – that was my idea!"

Lleucu strongly objects to this;  “Hey – that was my idea!”

"You had your chance to be on the planning committee"

but Mark tells her that she had her chance to be on the planning committee.   She wonders where he is going to hold this event

He lies that Yr Antur is booked

and he replies, “In Yr Antur – I’ve booked it and everything.”

"How are you covering the costs?"

She enquires how he is going to cover the costs;

"APD are going to sponsor it"

he gives the answer that APD are going to sponsor it.   “This will be the event of the decade, I’m telling you!

"It will be huge!"

“Something for all ages, a lot of laughing and screaming – it will be huge!”

"Do you know what, Mark?   I'm game!

Lleucu considers that she could do that as part of her baccalaureate at school;  “Do you know what, Mark?   I’m game!”

"Do you think there's enough food?"

Liv, Iolo and Cai are waiting for Greta to return home;  “Sera’s mother will be dropping her off any minute now,” says Iolo, worrying that they have enough food.

"Sit down, Iolo"

He is told to sit down, or he is going to make himself ill.   “I just want everything to be perfect,” he says.

"It's only fair Greta knows first"

Cai has not told Lleucu about the baby yet, arguing that it is only fair that Greta knows first.

"Are you ready?"

Then there is a knock at the door, so Iolo anxiously goes to let Greta in.

Greta is hesitant . . .

She is immediately hesitant upon seeing Liv there, but is assured that Iolo asked her to come over.

. . . but is given the sweets

Greta is given the sweets and her father also has a present for her.

"Come and sit down"

“We’ve got another surprise for you, but come and sit down,” says Iolo.

Mathew is behind the counter again

Mathew is behind the counter of APD for the first time in some weeks

"I want you to count the stock out the back"

and instructs Howard, “I want you to count the stock out the back, please.”   It is pointed out that it was done a few weeks ago,

"I want to know what's been happening"

but Mathew insists, “I want to know what’s been happening while I’ve been away.”

"I've been busy, keeping this place afloat"

“Well, I’ve been busy keeping this place afloat – while you’ve been in hot tubs with women in Ibiza!” is Howard’s response.

"And what about selling toilet paper?"

“And what about selling toilet paper outside the shop, like a car boot sale?   Do you have a permit?   On APD’s doorstep?”

"I was helping out Mark"

Howard explains that he was helping out Mark, but Mathew rages,

"If the bowler hat is still for sale"

I’ve just had a customer ask me if the bowler hat is still for sale!”   Howard points out that no-one reported them.

“If they had, you could have ruined my business!” Mathew goes on.

"I would already be ruined if it was not for us"

“It would already be ruined if it wasn’t for me, Griffiths and Siwsi!” Howard snarls.

"It's like leaving it to a work experience group"

Mathew likens it to leaving a work experience group to run the place – although they would have more common sense.

"You can be a real idiot sometimes!"

“You can be a real idiot sometimes, do you know that?” is Howard’s verdict.

Mathew looks at paperwork . . .

Mathew idly looks at some paperwork,

. . . the takes out the envelope

then takes out the envelope from his pocket and actually opens it.

£180.000!

We have a fleeting glimpse of the contents of the will, particularly the fact that £180,000 has been left to Matthew Price,

He is stunned

which he finds quite stunning.

"How's the head?"

Siôn arrives in the shop flat and asks Eileen how her head is;  “That good, is it?

"This consortium knows how to celebrate"

“I’m glad this new consortium knows how to celebrate – it bodes well.”

"You're not angry, are you?"

She is pleased to hear that he is not angry about the consortium,

"Why should I be angry?"

so he wonders why he should be angry.

"You told me I was getting older"

“The other day you were telling me to slow down and accept that I was getting older,” but he denies that, pointing out that some people thrive on keeping busy and starting a new enterprise – she is obviously one of those people.

"Perhaps a night away was what you needed"

“Perhaps a night away and new company was exactly what you needed, so how could I be angry?” he continues.   Eileen announces that she has something to tell him,

"Sorry, I'm in rather a hurry"

but he says that he is in rather a hurry and would rather talk about it later.

“I started watching Lucy Worsley’s box set on the history of the Tudors and I didn’t go to bed until the early hours – then I was late getting up this morning and now I need to edit a piece that’s supposed to be ready in half an hour.   So don’t ever go away again –

"I need you to keep on the straight and narrow"

“I need you to keep me on the straight and narrow.”

This makes her feel worse

This does not make Eileen feel any better.

"You can't run after people with a chainsaw!"

Lleucu derides one of Mark’s suggestions;  “No, you can’t run after people with a chainsaw!”   He points out that it will not be a real one, but only a sound effect.

"We could do a set-up like this"

However, she does like the idea of placing people in the audience;  “We could do a set-up like this,” as she finds something on the laptop.

"That would be really effective"

He agrees that with special lights it would be really effective.

"This will be great!"

He predicts that this will be great.

Eileen arrives with an invoice

Eileen arrives at the Deri bringing a copy of the invoice for Cassie,

"How are you?"

but appears to be in a terrible state;  “I can’t look at him,” she wails,

"The nicer he is, the worse I feel"

“Siôn – the nicer he is, the worse I feel.”

Cassie hopes that he does not suspect anything

"You're not the first – and won't be the last"

and points out, “Listen, Eileen, you’re not the first and you won’t be the last to go out and have the dish of the day – and then regret it.”

“You don’t think I should say anything, do you?” she asks,

"He does get on my nerves"

“He does get on my nerves, I can’t deny that, but he’s such a nice bloke and he makes me happy most of the time.”

"As long as you don't do it again"

Cassie emphasises that there is no point hurting him if there is no need to do so;  “As long as you don’t do it again!”

"What about Britt?"

Eileen is worried about Britt saying something, but is told to leave her to Cassie.

"Did you enjoy yourself last night?"

At that moment, Siôn comes in and asks Cassie if she enjoyed herself last night.

"Plenty of time to discuss business"

“Oh yes – the three of us got plenty of time to discuss business.”

"Cwmderi's Beaujolais Day"

Siôn is looking forward to seeing the fruits of their labour as Cwmderi celebrates Beaujolais Day;

"Make sure you keep a seat for me"

“Make sure you keep a seat for me.”

"Money like that could change your life"

Now Mathew is at the brewery, toying with the envelope;  “Money like that could change your life,” says Rhys, but Mathew is adamant that he is not going to take it,

"Give it to charity, then"

so is told to give it to charity – to help other people who are suffering like he is.   Or he could use it as a back-up at APD, which would give some security when business is quiet.

"Use it to buy Jason out"

“Or use it to buy Jason out of the business – you could do with a fresh start – a place of your own perhaps.   You could buy your own place with this.”

"He put you through hell"

Mathew is still determined not to touch it, but is told that he deserves some sort of compensation;  “He put you through hell – look at you – you’re a mess.   The least he can do is pay for what he did – sorry, Math, that came out wrong.”

"That's exactly what he's doing . . ."

Mathew realises that is exactly what he is doing;

". . . paying me to keep quiet"

“He’s paying me to keep quiet – paying me to forget.

"Or making sure I can't forget!"

“Or, even worse, making sure I can’t forget –

"Every time I spend a penny of this . . ."

“because every time I spend a penny of this, I’ll remember him!”

Mathew walks out

Mathew walks out of the brewery.

Iolo explains to Greta

Iolo is explaining to Greta, “Do you remember me telling you that Liv gave birth to you?”

"There's another baby in here now"

Liv continues that there is another baby in here now.

"Is that all right with you?"

Iolo continues, “Which means that you’ll soon have a brother or sister – he or she will be coming to live with us.   Is that all right with you?”

Great is more interested in her new doll

“Yes – can I go and play with this doll now?” she replies.

"At least she didn't cry"

Liv remarks that at least she did not cry

"She'll need time to process things"

and Cai realises that she will need time to process things, but at least she was not upset.   Liv goes to help herself to some food,

"I'm doing the right thing, aren't I?"

while Iolo is still debating, “I’m doing the right thing, aren’t I?”

"Greta will be an incredible big sister"

Cai assures him that he is;  “And when the little one arrives, Greta will be an incredible big sister.   It will take time – Lleucu and Twm are best friends now, despite the fact that Twm is on the other side of the world.

"You're doing the right thing"

“You’re doing the right thing, Iolo – for everyone – trust me.”

Lleucu is full of confidence

As they come out of the deli, Lleucu is quite complimentary about Mark;  “Fair play, that name is genius – I have no doubt that it will be brilliant.

"Why don't I go over to APD?"

“Why don’t I go over to APD with the list of things we need to build the sets?”

"I haven't discussed the budget yet"

He tells her that he has not had the chance to discuss the budget with them yet, but she insists that does not stop them taking a wish list so that APD can decide how much they can afford to pay.

"I've got a better chance of charming Mathew"

“And, no offence, but I’ve got a better chance of charming Mathew than you.”

This has got Mark worried, as he has not yet mentioned it at APD and quickly gets out his phone;

"Diane, I need to book Yr Antur"

“Diane, I need to book Yr Antur.”

Cassie looks at the invoice

Cassie is looking at the invoice with some trepidation

Britt arrives

when Britt comes in;  “It’s an invoice from Bedwyr, the wine bloke.”

"That's higher than we agreed"

Britt can see that it is a lot higher than the price they agreed,

They call Eileen over

so they call Eileen over.

“Isn’t that a bit high?”

"Auction commission and VAT"

Eileen points out that they have to pay the auction commission and VAT.

"Her mind was somewhere else last night"

Britt sneers that she did not see that last night as her mind was somewhere else.

Eileen maintains that it was quite clear on the leaflet that they had to pay the extra;  “It’s not my fault if you didn’t read it.”

"Right, I want to pull out!"

Britt maintains that they will never make a profit now, so she wants to pull out.

"That's typical!"

“That’s typical – you want to be part of everything when the sun is shining, but when there’s trouble, you’re off!” Eileen snarls.

“I didn’t know what sort of people were in this consortium,” Britt protests,

"We need to pull together"

but Cassie insists that they need to pull together and there is no point in arguing.

"She should get a discount from Bedwyr"

Britt suggests that Eileen should negotiate a discount from Bedwyr, seeing that she slept with him, but she is urged to keep her voice down, as Siôn is just approaching.

"Here they are – the special trinity"

“Well, there they are, the special trinity – get me a bottle of Prosecco, will you please, Cassie?”   They maintain that they do not deserve Prosecco, but he disagrees;

"That's a big step!"

“You’re taking a chance and that’s a big step – get us four glasses as well, please.

"This will cost hundreds!"

Lleucu shows her wish list to Howard, who exclaims, “This will cost hundreds!”

"But APD are sponsoring it"

but she insists that it will be no problem, as APD is sponsoring the event.

"We're not sponsoring anything"

“Hold on now – we’re not sponsoring anything – people do stupid things when they’re desperate.   Mark’s doing this for Dani and the children, to keep a roof over their heads after everything they’ve been through.

"They're in a hell of a hole"

“They’re in a hell of a hole – and he needs every penny.”

"Well, we have to make sure it's a success"

In that case, Lleucu comes to the conclusion that they have to make sure that it this a success.

"I can give you a lift"

As they approach the bus stop, Cai is still offering to give Liv a lift, but she is insistent on going on the bus, explaining that it helps her to relax.

She is insistent on going by bus

“It will take about three quarters of an hour.”

Cai says that he will have to come and see her next time,

"You don't need to do that"

but she suddenly becomes very defensive.   “No, you don’t need to do that,” she tells him;    he would like to see where she lives.

"There's no need for you to come over"

“Please, I enjoy coming to Cwmderi – there’s no need for you to come over – you’ve done loads for me already and I don’t want to take advantage.”

He is confident that she would never do that;

"I count you as a friend now"

“I count you as a friend now – you helped me so much in the hospital.”

"You've been a massive help to me"

She tells him that he has been a massive help to her as well

She hugs Cai . . .

and gives him a hug,

. . . just as Lleucu is passing

unfortunately just at the moment that Lleucu is passing on her way to the Deri.

Mathew again looks at the will . . .

At Penrhewl, Mathew is looking again at the will and doing some serious thinking;

. . . folds it up . . .

he folds it in half

. . . then rips it to pieces . . .

then furiously tears it into pieces,

. . . and throws them down

which he throws down on the table .

He has a determined look
