Jason sits forlornly |
Jason sits glumly in the interview room at the police station waiting for the arrival of the police officers;
![]() |
"Good morning" |
“Good morning,” says DS Thomas, “I’m sorry that we haven’t had the chance to talk to you sooner – we’ve got a lot of enquiries to make.”
![]() |
"Are you going to let me go now?" |
Jason anticipates that they are going to let him go now, but is told that they have a lot to discuss first.
![]() |
"Are you sure you don't want a solicitor?" |
“Are you sure you don’t want a solicitor present?”
![]() |
"I haven't done anything wrong" |
He stresses that he is quite sure, because he has not done anything wrong.
![]() |
"You won't have a problem answering, then" |
“Well, you won’t have a problem answering our questions, then.” The recorder is turned on.
![]() |
"I hope it's just a misunderstanding" |
In the shop, Anita is looking intently at the change in her hand when Eileen asks her, “Have you heard anything about the Fflamingos business? Have they charged Jason yet?” Anita hopes that it is just a misunderstanding
![]() |
Diane arrives |
and at that moment, Diane comes in.”
![]() |
"I don't think he would contact Sioned" |
Eileen is doubtful whether he would contact Sioned,
![]() |
"I've got so much on my plate with Jason" |
but Diane begs her, as she has so much on her plate with Jason;
![]() |
"I just want to know he's all right" |
she just wants to know that he is all right.
![]() |
Rhys comes in . . . |
The next one in through the door is Rhys,
![]() |
. . . and is asked the same question |
who is also asked if he has heard from DJ;
![]() |
"I wish everyone would stop asking me!" |
“No, I don’t know anything about Fflamingos, DJ or Jason! I wish everyone would stop asking me!”
![]() |
He storms out again |
He turns around and walks straight out of the shop.
![]() |
"Hiya, Mwncs!" |
In the hospital, Cai is sitting up in bed and pleased to see the arrival of Lleucu; “Hiya, Mwncs!” [diminutive form of ‘Mwnci’ – ‘Monkey’] he says, but is less pleased to see that Siôn is with her.
![]() |
Lleucu has brought him some goodies |
“Are you all right? I’ve got loads of treats for you,” Lleucu tells him, “Penguins, Hobnobs and Jammy Dodgers – you can usually eat a whole packet!”
![]() |
"I regret having breakfast now" |
He says that he regrets having any breakfast now. Siôn asks how he is feeling as they are joined by Iolo.
![]() |
"Have you had a chance to talk to anyone?" |
“Have you had a chance to talk to anyone yet?” Siôn wants to know,
![]() |
"Yes – I've had an assessment" |
and Cai replies that he had an assessment with the mental health team.
![]() |
"What advice did they give?" |
Iolo wonders what advice they gave him,
![]() |
"Can we talk about this another time" |
but Cai would rather talk about this another time.
“I just want a cup of coffee with my little girl, if that’s all right with you,” he tells them, then suggests that Lleucu should get them a coffee each to have with their biscuits.
![]() |
They look suspiciously at Cai |
Siôn and Iolo refuse anything and they both look at Cai suspiciously.
![]() |
"Are you happy to give us a bit of peace?" |
“When Lleucu comes back, are you happy to give us some peace?” he asks, but Siôn replies that they are very worried after the things he said the other day. “I didn’t mean it – that day is a bit of a blur. Please, I just want to spend time with Lleucs, that’s all.”
![]() |
"Come on, Dad – we should go" |
Iolo instructs his father that they ought to go,
![]() |
Siôn has other ideas |
but instead he sits down on the bed;
![]() |
Siôn lectures Cai again |
“Listen, we’re not leaving here today until we know exactly what the plan is to get you better.”
Ieuan is walking past the brewery when he sees Rhys, looking dejected, sitting inside;
![]() |
"Haven't you opened yet?" |
“Haven’t you opened yet?” he demands and Rhys does not intend to open today. He can see no point with a crime scene outside and everyone thinking that he is involved. “Are you?” enquires Uncle Ieuan, “I heard that the police came here earlier, that’s all.”
![]() |
"The police seem to believe me" |
“I made a full statement – said I had no idea what was going on Fflamingos and the cops seemed to believe me – unlike everyone in the village!” Rhys growls.
![]() |
"You do have a history with drugs" |
Ieuan maintains that he cannot blame people for talking, reminding him that he has a history with drugs.
![]() |
"If my own uncle questions me . . ." |
“Well, if my own uncle questions me, what chance do I have with the rest of the village?” Rhys groans
![]() |
Rhys marches out |
as he walks out.
![]() |
"So you have been in financial difficulties?" |
The questioning continues; “So you have been in financial difficulty?”
![]() |
"That's why I've been doing two jobs" |
Jason points out that is why he has been doing two jobs. “From what I understand, you owed your ex-wife money after the divorce – Kelly Evans. That’s one of the reasons you gave for your recent disappearance – financial pressure.”
![]() |
"It's under control now" |
Jason explains that it is now under control, so the questions turn to his business partner, Mr Richard Ashurst. “He’s making payments to his ex-partner?” Jason points out that they have twins.
![]() |
"So you'd welcome a way of making money quickly?" |
“So is it fair to say that the two of you would welcome a way of making money quickly?” he is asked,
![]() |
"Not if it meant breaking the law?" |
but angrily answers not if it meant breaking the law.
![]() |
"We caught you!" |
The DS continues, “We know you broke the law – we caught you receiving a package full of drugs,” but Jason insists that he had no idea what was in that package. “Do you often accept suspicious packages from strangers?” he is asked.
![]() |
"Right – no comment!" |
“Right, if this is how you’re going to be – no comment!” says Jason, then is asked about the other times, and he comes up with the same answer, “No comment.”
![]() |
Sioned has been doing the washing |
Sioned hurries into the farm kitchen with a basket of washing and hears her mother coming into the house;
![]() |
"Quiet – Jac has just settled" |
“Quiet – Jac has just settled,” says Sioned. Eileen thought that they were with Elinor,
![]() |
"McNabs has been up all night" |
but it is explained, “Lili is – but McNabs has been up all night – just a temperature, that’s all –
![]() |
"I'm keeping him home until she's better" |
“but I’m keeping him home until he’s better.”
![]() |
"Have you heard about Fflamingos?" |
Eileen comes to the point of her visit; “Have you heard from DJ today? Have you heard what happened at the Fflamingos van yesterday?”
![]() |
"Is he with the police?" |
Sioned is surprised that they suspect DJ and wants to know if he is with the police. “No-one knows where he is,” she is informed by her mother and she cannot believe it.
![]() |
"There might be an innocent reason" |
“There might be an innocent reason for the whole thing,” Eileen suggests,
![]() |
"That's how he was able to give me all that money!" |
but Sioned realises that is how he was able to give her all that money recently. There is a knock at the door and Sioned goes to answer it.
![]() |
"Like I said, I had no idea!" |
In the interview room, Jason angrily repeats, “Like I said, I had no idea there were drugs in those packages – DJ said . . .” but then he stops.
![]() |
"What did Mr Ashurst say?" |
The DS demands what did Mr Ashurst say; “Are you suggesting that he's behind all this?” Jason does not know the answer to that
![]() |
"Why don't you ask him?" |
and thinks that perhaps they should ask him. “That’s very difficult, Mr Francis,
![]() |
"He's followed your example from last year" |
“because Mr Ashurst has followed your example from last year and disappeared –
![]() |
DJ has 'dropped him right in it' |
“so at the moment we’ve only got your word.”
![]() |
"Ffion's still in a coma" |
In the hospital, Cai ask about Ffion’s condition and Lleucu replies that she is still in hospital and still in a coma.
![]() |
"It's a change not having family on the staff" |
“Don’t rush back to school,” she goes on, “It’s a change not having family on the staff. Do you want another drink – or some lunch? I can go back to the café and get you something – I think there were sausage baps as well.”
![]() |
"Lleucu, I love you – and Twm" |
“Lleucu, I love you, you know – and Twm,” he says, rather emotionally, and she assures him that she is well aware of that, also that they love him;
![]() |
"You deserve better, Lleucu" |
she wonders why he is telling her that now. “Oh, I’m just so sorry, Lleucu – I don’t know what I’m doing – you deserve better. I’ve tried to deal with this before – and I’ve failed.”
Lleucu is by now very concerned and instructs him that he should try again, “And again and again, if you have to!
![]() |
"I need you, Dad!" |
“You’re my Dad and, although you’re a pain in the backside, I need you! Come on, yeah?”
![]() |
"We have not found Mr Ashurst" |
The DS re-enters the interview room, advising they have not found DJ, so Jason imagines that something may have happened to him. The DS suggests another possibility,
![]() |
"He's left you to take the blame" |
“Or perhaps he has escaped – he saw his opportunity, ran away, and left you to take the blame for both of you.”
![]() |
Not what Jason wanted to hear |
Jason find this thought very unsettling.
![]() |
DJ creeps into Bryntirion . . . |
The back door of Bryntirion opens and a hooded DJ peers inside to make sure the coast is clear.
![]() |
. . . but is disturbed by the sound of a key in the front door . . . |
He looks around the house and is about to go upstairs, when he hears the front door open, so he quickly escapes through the back door,
![]() |
. . . and grabs a key on his way out |

Diane assumes the house is empty . . . |
It is Diane arriving, but she can hear nothing and assumes that the house is empty.
![]() |
. . . until she sees the back door open |
However, when she goes into the kitchen and finds the back door open, she realises that DJ must have been there,
![]() |
There is no sign of anyone |
although there is no sign of him now.
![]() |
"You could co-operate with the police" |
The DS advises Jason that he does not have to take all the blame, but could instead co-operate with the police; “Share names, addresses, phone numbers.”
![]() |
"I don't have any names or phone numbers" |
Jason smiles at her and points out that there is one major flaw with this; “I don’t have any names or phone numbers to give you, sorry.”
![]() |
"Do you really expect us to believe . . ?" |
“Do you really expect us to believe that you were involved in a drugs network and you don’t know anything about it?” he is asked,
![]() |
"Drugs network?" |
but simply laughs at the term ‘drugs network’.
![]() |
"I have no choice but to charge you" |
“I was really hoping you would help us today – but if you’re not prepared to co-operate, I have no choice but to charge you. You had the motive, the means and, above all else, you were caught in the act of receiving drugs.”
![]() |
"I want a solicitor" |
Jason reaches the conclusion that he is not saying another word until he has spoken to a solicitor. “That’s fair enough,” says the DS, “But we are charging you with possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.”
![]() |
"I'm not putting my name to this!" |
Ieuan is looking over Diane’s shoulder as she protests, “I’m not putting my name to this!” Ieuan points out to her that it is important to support this anti-drugs campaign. “Yes,” she goes on, “When we have something specific to say –
![]() |
"This is just blaming DJ and Jason" |
“this is just blaming DJ and Jason and saying that they’re guilty.”
![]() |
"Open your eyes, Diane!" |
“Open your eyes – one has been in custody all night and the other has disappeared off the face of the Earth!” he snarls. Diane makes it clear that when the police say something definitive, she will make a statement.
![]() |
"It would be irresponsible to say anything" |
Until then, it would be irresponsible to say anything.
![]() |
Jason is home . . . |
The front door of Bryntirion opens and Jason walks in,
![]() |
. . . and glowers at them |
glowering at his mother and Ieuan.
![]() |
"He will have fled to Ireland again!" |
“He will have fled to Ireland again,” Sioned tells her mother, but Eileen points out that they do not know that. “Come on, Mam – you heard what the police officer said – even you can’t deny that this doesn’t look good for DJ.”
![]() |
"I can't believe he'd have anything to do with drugs" |
Eileen cannot believe that he would have anything to do with drugs.
![]() |
"Nothing surprises me any more!" |
“I don’t know – nothing surprises me with him any more,” Sioned sighs, “What did you want to discuss before the police arrived?”
![]() |
"I got this letter" |
Eileen received a letter this morning, which she takes from her bag; it is the official offer for Penrhewl and it is more than they were expecting.
![]() |
"A million and a half!" |
Sioned takes a look and exclaims, “A million and a half!”
![]() |
"I can't turn that down!" |
Eileen stresses that she cannot turn that down.
![]() |
Rhys is idling |
Rhys is fiddling with a beer mat in Ceffyl Du when Ieuan comes back,
![]() |
"It's busy in here!" |
commenting, “It’s busy in here! Diane wants to wait for the police to say something before releasing a statement.”
![]() |
"In case her family has been wrongly blamed?" |
“In case her family has been wrongly blamed, is it?” sneers Rhys, but Ieuan does not think it will be long, because Jason is home now – on bail.
![]() |
"He can clear my name!" |
Rhys is determined to go round there now to see him; “He can clear my name!”
![]() |
"He's not allowed to go anywhere" |
Ieuan maintains that it can wait until the morning, as Jason is not going anywhere – he is not allowed to – and in any case, Rhys cannot leave the place.
![]() |
"I was hoping for a drink . . ." |
He stresses that he is a customer, who was hoping for a drink to support his nephew’s business. Rhys will get him a pint, but Uncle Ieu asks him to put it on ‘the tab’,
![]() |
". . . but I'm a bit short of 'readies' at the moment" |
because he is not very ‘flush’ this month.
![]() |
Lleucu is waiting for her father |
Lleucu is standing in the corridor, waiting for her father to return; Siôn and Iolo arrive first and ask where Cai is. “He’s gone to look for the doctor –
![]() |
"He's asking to return to that specialist unit" |
“he’s going to ask to return to that specialist unit,” she replies, “Where he went last time.”
![]() |
"That's a wise decision" |
Siôn regards that as a wise decision, assuming that Lleucu has persuaded him to do so; he is lucky to have her.
![]() |
Cai regrets that Siôn is there |
At that moment, Cai returns, not particularly happy to see Siôn there again; “Right, they’re willing for me to go there tomorrow – I don’t know how long I shall be there.
![]() |
"Are you two happy to look after Lleucu?" |
“Are you two happy to look after Lleucu?”
![]() |
"She'll be looking after us" |
Siôn predicts that she will be looking after them,
![]() |
"Well, it's better than going back to Gran" |
while she is confident that it will be better than going back to her grandmother. Cai is sorry that Lleucu has to deal with this,
![]() |
"Why are you apologising for being ill" |
but she cannot understand why he is apologising for being ill.
![]() |
Cai hugs his daughter |
He gives his daughter a hug.
![]() |
"You'd be a fool to turn it down" |
“Look, I do understand, Mam,” says Sioned, “You’d be a fool to turn down that sort of money – but Quantum Hydro Works know that, don’t they?”
![]() |
"Imagine what you could do with £750,000 . . ." |
Eileen tells Sioned to imagine what she could do with £750,000;
![]() |
". . . this is your chance to start over" |
“This is your chance to start over – do you want me to fetch Lili for you?”
![]() |
"I should go" |
Sioned would prefer to go,
![]() |
"You've got enough on your plate with Jac" |
but her mother is insistent that she has enough on her plate with DJ and little Jac being ill. She wants to help her daughter, proposing to pick up Lili every day this week.

![]() |
". . . and I can't talk to DJ, either" |
Then he remembers something else as well; “And I can’t talk to DJ, either.”
![]() |
"That will be easy enough" |
His mother points out that will be easy enough, as nobody can find him.
![]() |
"Is there still no sign of him?" |
Jason is surprised that there is still no sign of him,
![]() |
"The back door was open earlier" |
but she reports that the back door was open earlier, so Jason regards it as obvious that he has been there.
![]() |
"Mam, this has nothing to dos with me!" |
“And he’s run away, again, while I take the blame for everything, again. Mam, honestly, this has nothing to do with me.”
![]() |
"Why have they charged you, then?" |
“Why have they charged you, then?” she demands
![]() |
"That's what DJ planned!" |
“Because that’s what DJ has planned – he’s made everyone think I’m responsible!” Jason rages,
![]() |
"Do you really think DJ would do that to you?" |
but Diane does not really think that DJ would do that to him. He is adamant that there is no other explanation, but his mother tells him to simply leave it.
He walks over to the sink and asks how Ifan is;
![]() |
"Sara doesn't want you to see him" |
“He’s back in Lampeter – and Sara does not want you to see him or talk to him.”
![]() |
"But I haven't done anything wrong!" |
Again Jason declares that he has not done anything wrong,
![]() |
"After all you've put that little boy through . . . |
but Diane replies, “After everything you’ve put that little boy through, do you blame Sarah for not believing you this time?”
![]() |
"Please tell me you believe me!" |
“Please tell me you believe me, at least,” he begs, but his mother remains silent. “Mam?”
![]() |
Diane says nothing |
Still there is no reply.
