Ieuan Griffiths in his cooking attire

Ieuan, wearing his pinny, answers the door of number 7 to Diane and announces, “You’re just in time for Ieuan Griffiths’ full Welsh breakfast – how do you take your eggs?   Scrambled or fried?”

"I've just popped in to see Anita"

However, Diane declines the offer, having just popped in to see Anita.   

Ieuan has an appointment with the toilet

Ieuan asks her to watch the bacon, as he has an urgent appointment with the toilet.   Anita how Dai is;  “Is his sciatica better after the exercises?”   

"I'm still coming on the trip"

Diane confirms that he is, but she herself is on her knees, however she  will still be coming on the trip.

“DJ and Jason have promised to keep an eye on Dai.”   Then she comes to the point of her visit;  “I’d like to discuss something with you before we go to Cardiff – 

"Those thoughts you had about Switzerland . . ."

“about what we discussed the other day – those thoughts you had about Switzerland.   

". . . it's not right that I know and Ieuan doesn't"

“It’s not right that I know and Ieuan doesn’t.   I know you’ve decided against the idea, but it’s weighing heavily on me.”

"The last thing I wanted was to worry you"

Anita points out that the last thing she wanted to do was cause Diane worry, 

"Can we forget about it until after the trip?"

“But can we forget about this until after the trip?   I’ll tell him afterwards, I promise.   We’re supposed to enjoy this weekend, not worry, especially with Dai being ill.”

"Here he comes"

Then they hear him coming back downstairs;  

"The feast of the century"

he tells them to prepare for the feast of the century and Anita urges Diane to stay and have something to eat, as he has made enough food to feed the 5,000.

Dani stares at the empty bottle

At Maes-y-Deri, Dani is staring at the empty vodka bottle 

Something else attracts her attention . . .

and also a colourful garment attracts her attention, presumably Seren’s.   

. . . and is very depressed

She is very depressed.

"Where have you been?"

At Llwyncelyn, Tom is pouring out the coffee when Gaynor returns home;  he demands where she has been.   

"To the garden centre"

“To the garden centre to beat the queues,” she replies, having bought a few items.   “Stuff for my patch – the one that you’re not allowed to touch,” she informs him.

"You're going on that trip"

He reminds her that she is going on the trip today so she will not have time to do any gardening, so she says that she will put everything in the shed for now and then start next week.   

"I'll sort it out"

She asks where are the keys for the shed and he offers to sort it out.

"I've got a present for you"

Then she announces that she has a present for him as well, and he protests that he does not like surprises.   

"To drink on the minibus"

It is a bottle of beer, which he describes as ‘posh’ and she tells him that it is something for him to drink on the minibus to Cardiff.   “There was a place on the trip, so I’ve paid for you to come with us.”

This certainly does not fit in with his plans, but nevertheless he expresses thanks to her;  

This upsets his intentions

while he gives her a hug, his face says it all.

"Looking forward to a couple of pints?"

In the Deri, Hywel asks Cai if he is looking forward to a couple of pints in the big bad city, but now Cai is not intending to go, although he organised it.

"I've fallen out with Lleucu"

He explains that he has fallen out with Lleucu;  

"But you've got all the tickets"

Hywel reminds him that he has all the tickets, so Cai offers to give them to him.   

"Obviously you're not going to change your mind"

“Well, obviously you’re not going to change your mind,” Cassie observes.

Hywel recommends that if he has fallen out with Lleucu, 

"It might do you both good to have some space"

it might do them both good to have some space, but Cai does not seem convinced;  he says he will let them know and walks out of the pub.

"There's nowhere I'd rather be . . ."

Now that Tom has had a chance to think of an excuse, he tells Gaynor, “About this trip – there is nowhere I’d rather be than with you in Cardiff.”   She is perfectly aware that a ‘but’ is coming;  

". . . but I have to work"

“But I have to work – Rob and Ger are going to the game as well.”

"Surely you can find someone"

Gaynor is sure that he can find someone to cover his shift, but he regrets that he cannot and does not have a choice;  he maintains that he is sorry 

"I don't want to go, either"

and now Gaynor does not want to go, either.

He reminds her that her friends will be going, but she simply groans, What friends?”

"I'm supposed to go to Cardiff today"

Back at Y Felin, Cai leaves a message for Lleucu, “Look, Lleucs, I’m supposed to go to Cardiff today – I wanted to talk to you before going – 

"A break might do us both good"

“but this break might do us both good.   I’ll see you when I come back.”

Siôn has walked in on the last part of this and asks Cai if he has eaten, 

"There's plenty of Cawl in the saucepan"

as there is plenty of Cawl in the saucepan.   Cai says that he is leaving now, but Siôn tries to persuade him, stressing that they have all had a long week.

"That's exactly why I'm going"

That’s exactly why I’m going,” Cao answers.

Gaynor is toying with her food

Gaynor appears to have lost her appetite for lunch, so Tom sits down opposite her;  “You’re still going on the trip, aren’t you?”   

"The wind has been taken out of my sails"

She does not know the answer to that, sighing that the wind has been taken out of her sails.   

"I'll carry your case, like some butler"

He says that he will walk her to the bus and carry her case, like some butler.

“You don’t need to feel ashamed about what you said earlier – 

"I don't have many friends, either"

“I don’t have many friends, either.   I’ve got acquaintances who are colleagues, but they’re not true friends – 

"You're my best friend"

“you’re my best friend.”

“Gaynor appears to be surprised at this and he insists, “Of course you are.”   

"And you're mine"

She agrees that he is her best friend as well – and she has never had that before.   

"Buy yourself something nice in Cardiff"

He takes some money from his back pocket and gives it to her;  “For you to buy yourself something special in Cardiff.”

"There's over £100 here!"

She is rather taken her back by this, commenting, “There’s over £100 here!”

"Next time it will be just you and me . . ."

He continues, “And the next time we’re in Cardiff, it will be just you and me – 

". . . and I'll spoil you rotten!"

“and I’ll spoil you rotten!”   Gaynor falls for this (like everything else) and kisses him.

"Ooh – posh case!"

Anita comes into the Deri with her new weekend case, which is admired by Cassie;  “It was a treat from Ieuan,” she replies and he says he can treat his wife now and again.   

Cassie is pleased to see that Cai is actually going on the trip and he would like to talk to her;  

"Do you think we could sit together?"

“Do you think we could sit together on the way down to Cardiff?”   

"I'm not sure"

Cassie can foresee some problem with Hywel, but he maintains that he needs a friend, so she agrees.

"It's hard to see me, is it?"

Dani is sitting at the bar and has been listening to this;  “It’s hard to see me, is it?” she demands when Cai approaches.

"Dani is taking Tom's place"

Cassie announces that they are waiting for Diane, Hywel and Gaynor;  “Tom is not coming, but Dani has taken his place.”

Just what Cai could do without

This is the last thing that Cai wanted to hear and Dani remarks, “I think we’ll have fun,” as she continues drinking.

"Is there a baby elephant in here?"

Tom is carrying Gaynor’s case to the Deri, wondering if she has a baby elephant inside.   Cassie advises him that Dani is taking his place, 

"I'm here to help Gaynor"

so he points out that he is here to help Gaynor and very pointedly kisses her, 

Cassie is not impressed

much to Cassie’s disgust.   Gaynor says that she is missing him already, 

Diane approaches

just as Diane comes round the corner by the medical centre.

"This is a rugby trip, Ieuan"

Hywel emerges from his house next door and points out to Ieuan that this is a rugby trip, not a business meeting;  

"I'm comfortable in these clothes"

“I’m comfortable in these clothes, thank you very much!” he replies, “They’re ‘breathable cotton’.”

Hywel asks Cassie where she wants to sit 

Cai asked me to sit with him

and she breaks the news that she will be sitting with Cai, who asked her to sit with him;  she does not think that he is very well, so warns Hywel not to make a fuss.

"I could do with a wild weekend"

Siôn regards it as nice to be able to escape for a while;  “After the week I’ve had, I could do with a wild weekend.”   

"I don't think I shall be 'going wild'!"

He is told by Gaynor that unfortunately all of the seats have gone, although she does not see herself as ‘going wild’.

"Can you think of anyone I can interview"

He wonders if she can think of anyone he can interview for Cwm Ni’s ‘person of the month’, as Muriel Davis has had a stroke.   

"How about Tom?"

Gaynor, of course, suggests Tom and Siôn is surprised that he is not going on the trip.   He will go to see Tom straightaway.

"Let me know when he's back on the road"

Hywel’s phone sounds and he learns that the minibus has suffered a flat tyre;  Let me know when he’s back on the road, then,” he moans.   

"The minibus will be an hour"

Then he announces to the assembled multitude that they will be delayed by an hour.   

They all go back into the Deri

Everyone troops back into the Deri.

Tom reaches under the sink

At Llwyncelyn, Tom has just taken his gardening gloves from under the sink when there is a knock at the door, 

"Who's that now?"

which he was definitely not expecting.   

"I've come for a big favour"

Siôn has come for a big favour;  “Person of the month in the local paper, Cwm Ni – can I interview you?”

"I'm not one for attention, Siôn"

Tom simply laughs at him, appreciating the offer, but he maintains that he is not one for attention.   

Siôn will only take up a quarter of an hour of his time.   “I’ve got too much gardening to do, unfortunately,” is the next excuse.

"I'll help you with it"

Siôn offers to help him with it, to thank him for taking part, stressing that with both of them, it will only take half the time.   

"I've got a better idea – beer?"

Tom invites him to sit down and has a better idea – he will get some beer from the fridge.

"How much longer?"

Cassie is becoming tired of waiting for the minibus and asks Gaynor, “Are you sure I can’t persuade you to have a glass of Cava, on the house?” but Gaynor will wait until they reach the hotel, 

"I met Tom on a rugby trip"

reminiscing that she met Tom on a rugby trip.

"Nefi wen!"

“Nefi wen!” mutters Cassie under her breath, then Gaynor receives an amusing text on her phone 

"It's only Tom being silly"

and explains that it is only Tom being silly.   

"I don't understand you sometimes"

“I don’t understand you sometimes, Gaynor,” Cassie sighs.

"Pork Scratchings as well!"

Ieuan takes a tray of drinks across to their table, telling Anita that he has gone the whole hog, with pork scratchings as well, but as soon as he is about to sit down, 

"The bus is outside!"

Hywel makes the announcement that the bus is outside.

Ieuan has just wasted £20

“Already?   I’ve just bought a £20 round!” Ieuan complains.

"In three words, who is Tom?"

Siôn has reached question six;  “In three words, who is Tom?   There are only ten questions – we’re nearly done.”

"Everyone would say something different"

After a moment’s thought, he says, “Well, everyone would say something different, I’m sure,” and Siôn enquires what Gaynor would say, 

"Loving, thoughtful – gardener!"

so he goes on, “Loving, thoughtful – gardener.”

"What are you doing, working for that disgusting company"

Siôn cannot understand what he is doing working for that disgusting company, in that case – he should be out in the fields.   “Mind you, I’m sure you hear a lot of gossip from your cabin.”

Tom replies that he hears all kinds of things, which Siôn would not believe.   

"Care to share any of them?"

Siôn wonders if he would like to share any of them – about the dam, possibly.   Tom evades that by asking for the next question;  

"This is more like the Spanish Inquisition"

“This is more like the Spanish Inquisition than an interview for a local paper.”

Dani pops some tablets . . .

As Dani sits at the bar of the the hotel they have reached in Cardiff, she takes some tablets from a small bottle, 

. . . followed by a drink 

which are washed down by her drink.   

"Come and have a drink, Cai"

Cai comes in and sees her there;  he is about to walk away when she invites him to come and have a drink.   

"Come on – you know you want to"

“Come on – you know you want to.”   

"Calm down, Dani"

He tells her to calm down and she asks him whether he is going to sit down or not;  “Or are you too scared?   Are you going to call the cops?   Lleucu told me.   

"You really are a nasty little man!"

’You really are a nasty little man, aren’t you?”

"You hurt Greta!"

Once again, he reminds her that she hurt Greta, but she snaps, “You killed Seren!”

"Lleucu was in trouble!"

He begs her, “Please, Dani – Lleucu was in trouble.”

"And I was in more trouble"

Dani reminds him that she was in more trouble;  “And we’re still here – do you know what?   Lleucu doesn’t even like you – you’re too strict, too self -important.   

"You're the victim, aren't you?"

“You think the world revolves around you – because you’re the victim, aren’t you, Cai?   Not me, not Seren, but you!   And if Cai is miserable, everyone else has to be miserable as well.”

"I don't know what you want me to say, Dani"

He shakes his head;  “I don’t know what you want me to say, Dani.”   She points out that normal people say sorry – they sympathise, but not him.

"It's too much to ask, isn't it?"

“It’s too much to ask, isn’t it?   But you know what?   You were right about one thing – Gabs is better off with Colin, so thank you for that.   

"You've ruined my life!"

“You’ve ruined my life!”   She picks up her bag and walks out, 

She leaves behind her tablets

leaving on the bar her bottle of tablets, which Cai notices.

"What are you looking for, Anita?"

At that moment, Diane comes in and can see that Anita is staring rather vacantly into space;  she asks, “What are you looking for?”

"I'm waiting for Darren to come out of the toilet"

“I’m just waiting for Darren to come out of the toilet,” Anita replies;  she is reminded that she does not mean Darren, who is back home in Canada, 

"You're in Cardiff now"

but they are in Cardiff now.   Anita realises that of course they are.

"All right, ladies?"

When Ieuan returns to her side, she says that she wants to go back to the room, 

"What?   We've just come from there"

but he points out that they have only just left it.   

He takes her back to their room

He nevertheless leads her out of the bar, making Diane look very worried.

"I love you too"

Gaynor is on the phone to Tom;  “I’m so sorry that Siôn’s interview was so painful for you – I love you too.”

"It's hard to believe, isn't it?"

Cassie is standing nearby and comments, “It’s hard to believe, isn’t it?   That he’s squirmed back into your life 

"You haven't raised a finger to find your sister"

“and you haven’t raised a finger to find your sister.”

"She wasn't my sister"

“She wasn’t my sister, was she?   She deceived me,” is Gaynor’s angry reply.   

Cassie queries where she found the hair to do the DNA test.   “Well, Tom found her hairbrush,” and Cassie finds that very convenient.

"Well, I've washed my hands of it"

She adds, “Well, there we are – I’ve washed my hands of it – it’s your life.”

"You're just jealous . . ."

Gaynor regards this as simply jealousy;  “I’m telling the truth, aren’t I?   You desperately wanted Tom’s attention the night we met and then you tried it on with him in the Deri.   

". . . you can't bear the fact he chose me"

“You just can’t bear the fact that he chose me and not you.”

Hywel arrives and takes Cassie away

Hywel comes upon this argument and leaves the bar with Cassie.

Cai has been thinking

Cai has been giving some thought to what Dani said, 

"Where has Cassie gone?"

then goes over to Gaynor to ask where Cassie has gone, as he wants to talk to her.   

"I don't know and I don't care!"

“I don’t know and I don’t care!” is Gaynor’s dismissive reply.

Ieuan has been banished from the hotel room

Outside their room in the hotel, Ieuan is standing in the corridor when Diane comes out, 

"She's tired, like the rest of us"

reporting that Anita is tired, like the rest of them.   

"Why can't she talk to me, then?"

“Why can’t she talk to me, then?” he demands.

"She doesn't want to be a burden"

“She doesn’t want to be a burden,” 

"She would never be that"

and he protests that she would never be that.   “I know that, Ieuan, but she cares about you – she knows that in all this, since the diagnosis,’ 

"It's not just her life that's changed overnight"

“it’s not just her life that’s changed overnight.”

"All those years I thought we had"

He can see that he is going to have to let go of all the years he thought they had;  

"I'm truly sorry, Ieuan"

Diane is truly sorry 

A tear comes to his eye

while Ieuan is in tears.
