Gaynor, with her case, is ready to leave |
At the Cwsg y Ddraig [Sleeping Dragon] Hotel in Cardiff, Gaynor is leaving already;
![]() |
She heads for the stairs |
she walks towards the stairs, where she is noticed by Cassie and Hywel, both wearing their rugby shirts.
![]() |
"Where do you think you're going?" |
“Gaynor, where do you think you’re going?” Cassie asks
![]() |
"I'm going home to Tom" |
and is told that she is going home to Tom, giving the excuse that she has a migraine.
“What about your ticket?” says Hywel; she tells him to sell it and give the money to the rugby club. She is in a hurry to catch the train home.
![]() |
"Have you seen Anita?" |
As they stand, watching her go, they are joined by Ieuan, who wants to know if they have seen Anita;
![]() |
"There's no sign of her!" |
“When I woke, she was gone – there’s no sign of her!”
![]() |
Tom has been doing something strenuous . . . |
Back in Cwmderi, Tom comes into the back door of Llwyncelyn in quite a state;
![]() |
. . . and emotionally draining — what could that be? |
he collapses to the floor in the kitchen and appears to be sobbing. He looks at the filthy condition of his gardening gloves, then stuffs them in his pocket.
![]() |
His hands are trembling . . . |
His hands are trembling
![]() |
. . . as he wipes his face |
as he picks up a handy tea towel to wipe his face.
![]() |
Anita's absence is notified |
At the hotel reception desk, Ieuan, who is now accompanied by Diane, is notifying the receptionist, “Anita Griffiths, five foot five or six, blonde hair, pretty.”
![]() |
"In a blouse with pink flowers" |
Diane interrupts to say that she might be wearing a blouse full of pink flowers, which she wanted to bring because it does not crease.
Ieuan considers that these details are unimportant, but Diane continues, “And black boots – she got them in the sale that last year.”
![]() |
"I'll deal with this!" |
This is too much for Ieuan, who abruptly tells her that he will deal with this; “Filling her head with nonsense like that!”
![]() |
They will start a search |
Hywel is nearby and proposes to look in the car park, while Cassie can check with both Dani and Cai, in case they have seen her.
“Don’t worry – she won’t have gone far,” he reassures his brother.
![]() |
"Anita didn't want me to tell you this, but . . ." |
"Then Diane has something else to say to Ieuan; “Look, Anita didn’t want me to tell you this, right, but she hasn’t been thinking straight recently.
![]() |
". . . she was looking into going to Switzerland" |
A couple of weeks ago, she was looking into the possibility of going to a clinic in Switzerland to end her life.”
![]() |
Tom drags his purchase to his car round the corner |
Tom comes out of APD, dragging a trolley with two heavy bags of gravel; Jinx is on his way to The Pizza Place
![]() |
"You'll need for that that to build the dam" |
and remarks, “You’ll need more than that to build that dam.”
![]() |
"Is there any change with Ffion?" |
Tom replies that it is a project for Gaynor, then asks whether there is any change in Ffion.
![]() |
"No – but that might be a good thing" |
Jinx regrets that there is not, “But that might be a good thing,” he adds.
![]() |
"Apart from seeing Eleri" |
Tom says that he has been thinking about Jinx and trying to remember something that might be able to help – apart from seeing Eleri.
![]() |
"The police know that she was running there" |
“The police know that she was running near the dam that day,” answers Jinx, but he is asked whether they also know that she had a motive –
![]() |
"You and her were not getting on" |
that she and Jinx were not getting on.
He continues to put doubts into Jinx’s mind; “Perhaps you should mention it – just so the police can cross her off the list.
![]() |
"You said it might be the same person" |
“Do you remember saying that you thought the same person attacked you and Ffion? How were things between you and Eleri before . . ? The best thing you can do is to be honest with the police – and let them decide.”
![]() |
Now Jinx has his suspicions |
The seeds of doubt have been successfully planted and Tom goes on his way.
![]() |
"Why didn't you tell me?" |
“Why didn’t you tell me when I asked you whether Anita was hiding something from me? It was on her iPad! You have no idea how worried I’ve been – and you’ve been helping her with this plan!”
![]() |
"I was not helping her!" |
Diane assures him that she has not been helping and he has misunderstood; “I helped her to see that it was not possible – that she doesn’t need to fear the end . . . but now, I’m worried that we’ve failed to realise how much care she needs.
![]() |
"You have to explain to the police" |
“You have to explain to the police how vulnerable she is.”
Ieuan wonders if she said anything last night about where she could be now
![]() |
"She was quite low, to be honest" |
and Diane replies that she did not talk much, indeed she was quite low, to be honest.
![]() |
"What if everything has become to much for her?" |
Ieuan is frightened, “What if everything has become too much for her?
![]() |
"We might have lost her already!" |
“We might have lost her already!”
![]() |
Cassie calls for Cai . . . |
Cassie goes to Cai’s room, number 225,
![]() |
. . . and there is no response |
and knocks on the door, but does not get any reply.
![]() |
"Surprise – I'm home!" |
Gaynor arrives home at Llwyncelyn and calls Tom’s name, “Surprise – I’m home!” she shouts,
![]() |
She finds that Tom is not there |
but he is not there, which she finds rather disappointing. Just as she has taken off her coat,
![]() |
"The he comes in, looking dishevelled |
he comes in through the back door, giving her a fright, and is rather concerned to see her.
“I was expecting more of a welcome,” she remarks
![]() |
"Is something wrong?" |
and he says he was just not expecting her back yet, suspecting that something is wrong, but she denies this;
![]() |
"I just wanted to be home with you" |
“No, I just wanted to be home with you,” she simpers and gives him a hug.
![]() |
"Ieuan Griffiths wouldn't stop talking?" |
“Don’t tell me – Ieuan Griffiths wouldn’t stop talking,” he comments and Gaynor adds that Cassie also has plenty to say, but does not go into details.
![]() |
"If anyone asks, I've got a migraine" |
“In any case, it doesn’t matter now that I’m here with you – and, if anyone asks, I’ve got a migraine.”
![]() |
"I'm good at keeping secrets" — if she only knew |
He tells her that he is good at keeping secrets, which is rather an understatement. Then he reveals that he has a surprise for her
![]() |
"Right, no peeping!" |
and instructs her to close her eyes, then leads her out of the back door.
![]() |
"Can you call me back, please?" |
Mark comes around the corner with a parcel for Jinx, who is standing outside his shop, leaving a message for Eleri; “Can you call me back, please?”
![]() |
"Are you trying to kill me, Mark?" |
He is shocked to suddenly see Mark there, gasping, “Are you trying to kill me, Mark?”
![]() |
"I need a signature for this" |
He is handed the parcel, for which Mark needs a signature
![]() |
Jinx throws the parcel into the shop |
and throws it into the shop, as he is in a hurry. Mark assumes that he is going to the hospital,
![]() |
"No, I'm going to the police" |
but is told, “No, to the police,” and he walks away.
![]() |
"She could be quite confused and frightened" |
Ieuan is outside the hotel, speaking to the police on his phone, in English, “Yes, she’s also been diagnosed with dementia – Lewy bodies dementia, so she could be quite confused and frightened. I am quite worried about her, to be honest.”
![]() |
"I can't understand why Cai hasn't contacted us" |
Nearby, Cassie comments to Hywel that she cannot understand why Cai has not contacted them;
![]() |
"He might be busy" |
“He might be busy,” supposes Hywel, “Well, have you seen Dani this morning?” Cassie does not imagine that they would be . . . after everything that has happened, but Hywel is not so sure.
![]() |
"There's som scandal on every trip!" |
“Did you knock on her door this morning? There’s some scandal on every trip . . .” he goes on and at that moment Dani appears behind him, wanting to know what scandal he is referring to.
![]() |
"Anita has gone missing" |
Cassie advises that Anita has gone missing and no-one has seen Cai since last night; Dani says that she has not seen anyone since last night and does not appear to be at all interested. Hywel imagines that someone else must be ‘keeping Cai’s feet warm’, in that case.
![]() |
Diane comes running |
Diane comes rushing out of the hotel,
![]() |
"She was walking toward the castle" |
advising that a member of staff has seen a woman who sounds like Anita walking towards the castle, so they will all go and look for her,
![]() |
"You stay here, Ieuan" |
except for Ieuan, who is told to remain there, as if she comes back, she will need a familiar face.
“Right, we’ll go to the park – Diane and Dani, go to the shops!” Hywel instructs them;
![]() |
"Don't worry – we'll find her" |
he assures Ieuan that they will find Anita.
![]() |
He watches from inside the hotel |
As Ieuan looks anxiously out of the window of the hotel,
![]() |
"Hello!" |
Anita returns there
![]() |
Ieuan is overjoyed |
and he is absolutely delighted to see her back, embracing her warmly.
![]() |
"Where have you been?" |
“Where have you been?” he demands and she replies that she lost her way. He is simply concerned that she is all right
![]() |
"Where is everyone, then?" |
She says, “The city has changed since I was last here – where is everyone, then?” and he tells her that they are all out looking for her.
![]() |
"Sorry for causing all this trouble" |
She is very sorry for causing all this trouble and is worried that they will be late for the game now.
![]() |
"Don't worry about the game . . ." |
Ieuan not at all worried about the game,
![]() |
". . . what's going on?" |
but demands, “What’s going on? What happened?” She explains that she went out for a walk and the next thing, she was not sure where she was and there were lots of people everywhere – she had gone without her phone.
![]() |
"You must have been very scared" |
Ieuan gives her another cwtch and can appreciate that she must have been very scared;
![]() |
"I'm getting worse, Ieuan . . ." |
she is convinced, “I’m getting worse, Ieuan – I am – I can feel it.
![]() |
". . . and there's something else I have to tell you" |
“And there’s something else – I want to tell you because I can’t avoid it any longer – it’s playing on my mind.” He tells her that he already knows what it is, that she has considered going to Switzerland
![]() |
"Why didn't you tell me?" |
and demands why did she not tell him.
![]() |
"It's lucky I finished it" |
When they come back into Llwyncelyn, Tom complains, “I thought the ‘pea gravel’ would suit it – it’s lucky I finished it before you came back, to surprise you.”
![]() |
"Yes, very lucky" |
“Yes, very lucky, she answers, coldly, as she takes a bottle of water from the fridge, “I do like it – but this was supposed to be my project.”
![]() |
"You don't have to bother now" |
He maintains that she does not have to bother now, but can just sit back and enjoy it.
![]() |
"I would have enjoyed doing it" |
“I would have enjoyed doing it,” she argues, “Look, I appreciate the effort.” He takes on his ‘offended’ attitude as she continues, “I was looking forward to doing some hard work for a change – it would have done me good!”
![]() |
"What am I supposed to do? Put it back?" |
Tom is becoming angry; “What am I supposed to do? Put it back as it was?”
![]() |
"Don't be like that!" |
and she tells him not to be like that.
![]() |
"Do you know how many hours I've spent?" |
“Do you know how many hours I’ve spent?” he shouts.
She shouts back that he knew she was looking forward to doing the work –
![]() |
"You couldn't have been listening!" |
and if he did not, then he was not listening to her. She is going for a walk, for some peace, making it crystal clear that she does not want any company.
![]() |
Not the sort of compliance he wanted |
Tom is seething with anger.
![]() |
Mark comes in and sees Jinx |
Mark comes into the Deri, where Jinx is standing at the bar with his drink and almost turns round to go out again,
![]() |
"Mark – sorry for rushing away earlier" |
but Jinx apologises for rushing away earlier offers him a pint.
![]() |
"It's fine to have a pint on match day" |
Mark replies that it is rather early for him, but Jinx insists that it is fine to have a pint on match day and orders him a pint of lager.
![]() |
"Why did you contact the cops earlier?" |
Mark is eager to find out why Jinx wanted to contact the cops earlier; “Was it something to do with Ffion? Have they got any idea who attacked her?”
Jinx reveals that they now think the same person attacked him as well, which is rather concerning to Mark, who asks if he has any idea who it was.
![]() |
"There is someone" |
“There is someone – she was in the area when Ffion was found and our relationship hasn’t been the easiest – mind you, struggle to believe she would attack me.”
![]() |
"You don't think it was Dani?" |
You don’t think it was Dani?” gasps Mark;
![]() |
"No – Eleri!" |
he is told that Eleri is the suspect. Jinx has told the police about everything to do with the dam, and how Jinx had thought she was on the side of the local people – but now she is on the company’s board instead of her father.
![]() |
This is affecting Mark |
“The police are looking into the possibility that she’s worried I know too much about the plans for the place. I can’t make sense of it because, if it’s true, was our relationship a scam?”
Mark’s conscience is weighing heavily on him; he says, “Look, Jinx, I don’t know about Ffion,
“but Eleri didn’t attack you.”
![]() |
"She can be a bit wild at times" |
Jinx is well aware that she can be a bit wild at times.
However, Mark is insistent that it was not her – he knows that;
![]() |
"I wasn't thinking straight, OK?" |
“I wasn’t thinking straight, OK?”
![]() |
"You?" |
Jinx finds it difficult to comprehend that it was Mark, as he turns to walk out of the Deri.
![]() |
"No, it was your place to tell me" |
Back in the hotel, Anita points out to Ieuan that it was not Diane’s place to tell him; he agrees, “No, it was your place – why didn’t you tell me? You’re hiding one thing after another from me at the moment. You are – the power of attorney and now this.
![]() |
"You're married to me, not Diane!" |
“You’re married to me, not Diane!”
Suddenly, Diane comes rushing up the stairs, shouting Anita’s name;
![]() |
"I'm so happy to see you!" |
“I’m so happy to see you!”
![]() |
The others are now on the scene . . . |
She is followed by Cassie and Hywel, as Anita apologises for causing them so much trouble.
![]() |
. . . with Dani apparently 'out' of it |
Dani simply stands there looking rather vacant,
![]() |
"I'm just glad you're OK" |
while Diane is just glad that Anita is safe.
![]() |
"Well, if we want to go to the game . . ." |
Hywel points out that if they want to go to the game, they must leave now
![]() |
"No – I think we should go home" |
and Ieuan believes that he and Anita should go home, but she will not hear of this,
![]() |
"We came here for the game and we're going together!" |
stressing, “We came here for the game and we’re going together! And Wales are going to beat ‘the old enemy’, I’m telling you!” Ieuan does not have that much confidence.
![]() |
"One problem – Cai has the tickets" |
Cassie remind them that they have one problem; “Cai has the tickets.”
![]() |
Tom hears the door open |
Gaynor returns from her walk and Tom does not look happy about it.
![]() |
"I got it wrong – typical me!" |
He admits that he was at fault; “I was trying to do something nice and I got it wrong – typical me – I just jump into things without thinking. What can I say? I’m a fool.”
![]() |
"I do like the garden" |
His ploy evidently works as Gaynor maintains that she does like the garden, but it was just unexpected, that is all.
![]() |
"The two of us on a sunny evening" |
“I love it,” she insists, “I can see the two of us on a sunny evening with a bottle of Sancerre, sitting quietly with no one to disturb us.”
![]() |
"That sounds very nice" |
He agrees that sounds very nice, as she goes on, rather extravagantly, “Do you know what? I can’t believe my luck sometimes that you’re here.”
![]() |
"No – I'm the lucky one" |
He replies that he is the lucky one and kisses her, revealing that he has one more surprise for her,
![]() |
Another present for her |
another small box containing a tiny heart,
![]() |
"To celebrate a new start for our garden" |
as he adds, “To celebrate a new start for our garden.”
As he attaches this charm to her bracelet, he remarks, rather ominously,
![]() |
"Somewhere a soul can be at peace" |
“Somewhere a soul can be at peace,”
![]() |
"Rather a strange choice of phrase" |
which she considers rather strange, but she she hugs him.
![]() |
Cassie enters Cai's room . . . |
Cassie has let herself into Cai’s hotel room, while leaving a message for him, “Listen, Cai, don’t be angry with me, OK? The lady at reception has let me come into your room, because without the tickets we can’t go to the match.”
![]() |
. . . looking for the tickets |
She is meanwhile searching in his bags to find the tickets, but is unsuccessful.
“If they’re on your phone, would you please e-mail them to me?
![]() |
"We can meet you outside the stadium" |
“Or we can meet you outside the stadium, OK?”
![]() |
"What's that noise?" |
Then she hears the sound of some heavy breathing
![]() |
Cai is prostrate on the floor . . . |
and goes to investigate.
![]() |
. . . with an empty tablet bottle |
Cai is lying on the floor, apparently choking and nearby is an empty tablet bottle.
![]() |
"I was angry with you" |
Mark continues his explanation to Jinx, “I was angry with you – everyone just found out that you knew about Quantum Hydro Works’ plans to trick us all.”
![]() |
"You tried to kill me for that?" |
Jinx cannot believe that Mark tried to kill him for that, but he maintains that he did not try to kill Jinx. “You left without even checking whether I was still alive,”
![]() |
"Yeah – I'm sorry about that" |
and Mark is sorry about that. “And you expect me to forgive you?”
Mark confirms that he does not expect that; neither is he going to forgive Jinx after what he did to Dani.
![]() |
"So I deserved it?" |
“Oh, right – that’s what this is – so I deserved it?”
![]() |
"Of course you did – Dani needed you!" |
“Of course you did – she’d just lost a child, Jinx, she needed you!” growls Mark.
Jinx enquires what happens if the police charge Eleri now; Mark regards that as up to him to sort out – but stipulates,
![]() |
"You can't say a word about me" |
“You can’t say a word about me – not with Dani the way she is! She relies on me.”
![]() |
"The ambulance is on the way" |
Cassie has now called Hywel and Dani to Cai’s room, where Hywel tries to get some sense out of him, informing him that the ambulance is on the way.
![]() |
Dani's bottle of tablets |
Dani, however, notices the empty tablet bottle on the floor and looks horrified,
![]() |
Dani stares fixedly at them |
realising that she has responsibility for this.
