"Dad, are you there?"

Iolo comes rushing into Y Felin, shouting for his father, who is nowhere to be seen,

"Why all the shouting?"

but Lleucu comes downstairs wondering what all the shouting is for, as she is trying to ‘chill’.   He is lost for words and she can see that something is wrong,

"What is it?   Tell me!"

demanding that he tell her.

"Your father's in hospital"

“Your father’s in hospital,” he finally says and Lleucu is stunned.

Dani arrives home . . .

Dani arrives home at Maes-y-Deri in a very subdued mood

. . . and sits down

and immediately sits down in an armchair.

"Oh, Tom . . ."

Tom is having a cup of tea and reading the paper in the Deri when Jinx  comes in and notices him;

". . . don't mention that I suspected Eleri"

“Hey, Tom, don’t mention that I suspected Eleri of those attacks – it wasn’t her!” he says.

"How do you know?"

Tom enquires how he knows this and is told, “That doesn’t matter – I was wrong.”

"Do they suspect someone else?"

Tom asks whether the police suspect someone else in that case,

A furious Eleri bursts in

but at that moment Eleri bursts in,

"I've been questioned for – wait for it . . ."

exclaiming, “Can you believe I’ve been questioned by the police for – wait for it – attacking you and Ffion!”   Jinx makes a great show of telling her that is ridiculous, as she rages on, “It was obvious they didn’t have an ounce of evidence –

"My Strava proved exactly where I was!"

“my Strava proved exactly where I was!   A complete waste of time – an espresso, please,” she asks Geraint, behind the bar.

Tom make a hasty exit

Meanwhile, Tom puts on his coat and hurriedly leaves, telling Jinx to take care.   Eleri notices some leaflets on the bar

"He won't get away with this – Siôn White!"

and reads, “Quantum Hydro Works – the water runs into the hollow.   He won’t get away with this!   Siôn White!”

"How do you know it was him?"

Jinx wonders how she knows that it was him

She reads out his flowery prose . . .

and she reads further, “We’ll stand up to deceit, betrayal and oppression.”

. . . and now Jinx understands

Now he can understand why she knows it was Siôn.

“I thought he was happy, now that we’ve promised work for locals – what’s his problem?” she snarls.   Jinx does not know the answer to that

"You'll have to talk to him!"

and she determines that Jinx will have to talk to Siôn.

He wonders why he has to do it and she explains, “He’ll listen to you – everyone likes Jinx, don’t they?

"Nice guy – someone you can trust"

“Nice guy – someone you can trust.”   He mutters that is what people used to say.   “All you have to do is get him to talk to us and calm his fears a little bit – can you do that for me?”

Jinx does not relish the task

Jinx does not look full of enthusiasm.

"Cai must be in a terrible place"

Anita and Ieuan are back at number 7;  “We have no idea what Cai’s been dealing with,” she says, “He must be in a terrible place, to do what he did!”

She sees the 'dementia' file

Anita walks through to the kitchen, where the large blue file containing all the dementia paperwork is lying on the table.

"Is that why you wanted to go to Switzerland?"

“Is that what you wanted to go to Switzerland?” Ieuan asks her

"I'm scared of not knowing who I am"

and she replies that she is scared of getting to that place, not knowing who she is, and of not knowing Ieuan.

"We must look into care homes"

“It’s going to happen – I can’t control the dementia, you know, but I’m determined to control everything I can – and I think it’s important that we look into care homes.”

Ieuan is rendered speechless

Ieuan does not know what to say to that.

Siôn has an absorbing book . . .

Siôn is sitting in the deli,

. . . The Crossing Song

engrossed in a book;  Jinx looks across at him and asks if he is all right.   He explains that he is reading a very good book, “A series of poems

"She didn't speak a word of Welsh five years ago"

by a woman who didn’t even speak a word of Welsh five years ago.”

Jinx pretends to take an interest and wants to talk to him

"Are you responsible"

about these pamphlets that are going around the village – about the dam.   He wonders if Siôn is responsible.

"It depends who is asking"

“It depends who is asking,” is the cryptic reply.

"I thought you were happy now"

Jinx had been under the impression that Siôn was happy, now that Iolo will be getting work.   “Do you expect me to believe that local businesses will benefit?” sneers Siôn,

"That contract isn't worth anything"

“That contract isn’t worth anything – these big companies can find loopholes wherever they want – you must see that – unless your new girlfriend has blinded you.”

"The company wants you to sit down with them"

Jinx responds, “Look, the company is inviting you to sit down with them and discuss things sensibly.”

Siôn can immediately see through this argument;

"Wants you to do her dirty work, does she?"

“Oh, she wants you to do her dirty work, does she?”

"Are you willing to meet them?"

Jinx wants to know whether he is willing to meet them or not and is emphatically told, “I’ve got nothing to say to them.   They’re an unethical company –

"You could be a big help to us"

“but you know that, deep down.   It’s not too late – with Ffion ill, we need the support – and, as you’re in a unique situation, you could be a big help to us.”

"I can't assist you, Siôn"

Jinx does not think that he is able to assist, despite being cajoled by Siôn,

"Come on – the old Jinx would"

“Come on – the old Jinx would – think about it?”

"I can't betray Eleri"

Jinx maintains that he cannot betray Eleri.   “Well, you’ll be betraying yourself in the end,” he is warned.

Siôn’s phone has been ringing for some seconds and Jinx recommends that he should answer it as he leaves the deli.

"Hello there"

Siôn does so.

"Why won't you phone Hywel?"

Lleucu is very anxious about her father and demands that Iolo should phone Hywel.

She is told that he will contact them if there is any news.   “I need to know if Dad’s alive!” she shouts, but Iolo points out that there is nothing they can do.   Lleucu is still determined that she is going to see him.

"We don't know what states he's in"

“No – we don’t know what state he’s in,” Iolo continues, but Lleucu is adamant that she is not just sitting there while her father is dying,

"Dad needs me!"

stressing that he needs her.

"We have to face reality, Ieuan!"

As Anita goes to fill the new kettle, she tells Ieuan, “We have to face reality.”

"I'll look after you!"

He insists that he is there to help her, feed her, dress her – he will look after her – anything she needs, he will be there.

"A time will come when I don't want you to"

“Yes, I know – but a time will come when I don’t want you to” she stresses;  he points out that he is her husband.

"I want to see the mischief in your eyes . . ."

“Yes – and I need you to carry on making me laugh and enjoy myself even when I won’t feel like it.   I want to see the mischief in your eyes again.

". . . I haven't seen that since the diagnosis"

“You know – the mischief in your eyes just before you kiss me – I haven’t seen that since before the diagnosis.

"Stop thinking about me as a sick woman"

“And please stop thinking about me as a sick woman.”

"But you are sick, Anita"

He reminds her that she is a sick woman, which causes her some confusion, then she asks if he wants a cup of tea

Before she turns on the gas hob . . .

and proceeds to put the electric kettle on the gas hob;

. . . he manages to rescue the electric kettle

he quickly retrieves it

"Oh, Ieuan!   I can make a cup tea!"

and she shouts at him, “Oh, Ieuan!   I can make a cup of tea!” turning it on in its correct place.

Cai has three visitors

At the hospital, Cai is sleeping when the door opens;  Iolo, Lleucu and Siôn come in.

He looks at Lleucu

Lleucu goes to her father’s bedside and he turns to look at her;

"Dad, I'm so sorry!"

“Dad, I’m so sorry,” she tells him, “I’m here for you, OK?   You’re never ending up there again – I won’t let you!   No more arguing – everyone in our house is going to look after each other, all right?”

Iolo and Siôn look on

Iolo and Siôn look at each other

"I need you, Dad!"

as she continues, “I need you, Dad!”   Cai tells her that he is sorry, but all she wants is for him not to leave her.

"I'm not going anywhere"

He makes it clear that he is not going anywhere.

Jinx notices Dani

In the Deri, Jinx orders a Sauvignon Blanc and a pint of lager, then notices Dani sitting nearby with a morose look on her face.

"It's terrible about Cai, isn't it?"

“I heard about Cai – terrible, isn’t it?” he says to her,

"Leave me alone!"

but she simply tells him to leave her alone.

"Heard any more from the police?"

Then Tom comes in, eager to find out if Jinx has heard any more from the police and is urged to keep his voice down, as Eleri is not far away.

"Forget everything I told you"

He tells Tom to simply forget everything he has been told.

Lleucu holds her father's hand

In the hospital, Lleucu is holding her fathers hand and he asks her to do him a favour;

"Can you get me a packet of crisps?"

“Can you get me a packet of crisps?   I’m starving.”

"Prawn Cocktail?"

She suggests prawn cocktail, which he says would be ideal.

He does not want to talk to Siôn

In her absence, he appears not to want to talk to the others.

Eleri gets straight to the point;  “Did you hear from Siôn?   Can you change his mind?”

"He's dealing with this Cai situation"

Jinx reminds her that he is dealing with this Cai situation, so should not be hassled.

"Did you try yo persuade him?"

“So he just flat out refused?   Did you try to persuade him?” she demands.   He replies that he did, but Siôn also tried to persuade him to spy on Eleri.

Tom is doing some eavesdropping

Tom, from his position at the bar, is listening in to this conversation and then is summoned by Eleri,

"Oi, security guy!"

“Oi, security guy!

"What – me?"

If you see Siôn White around the site, let me know –

He is given his instructions . . .

“and be careful what you say around him – he’s fishing.”

. . . and then dismissed

Then she dismisses him in her usual supercilious way, “Right, you can go now,”

"He's so smug, isn't he?   Siôn I mean"

and he walks away with a smile.

“He’s so smug, isn’t he?” she sneers, but this time she is speaking about Siôn.

"He's always been like that"

Jinx comments that he has always been like that.

"Siôn White phoned the police about me!"

After another sip of Sauvignon Blanc, Eleri comes to the conclusion, “It was him – of course it was him – Siôn White phoned the police about me!”

"Then we can discuss your options"

At the hospital, Siôn tells Cai that he had a word with the doctor on the way in;  “They will want to keep you in for a while in case there is any physical damage and then we can discuss your options.”

"I don't have any options"

Cai maintains that he does not have any options.

"There are people out there who can help"

Iolo interrupts to say that there are people out there who can help, but Cai simply replies, “I don’t want to be here.”   He is told that he will not have to be at the hospital for long,

"I told Lleucu what she wanted to hear"

and repeats, “I don’t want to be here – I told Lleucu what she wanted to hear.”

"She thinks you want to get better"

“She thinks you want to get better,” Iolo goes on and he is quite happy for her to go on thinking that.   “Look, Cai, you might feel like this now, but with time, surely you want to get better?”

"Everything will be all right"

Siôn emphasises that they will make sure he gets the help he needs and everything will be all right.

"I've got sweet chilli crisps"

Cai does not say anything more until Lleucu returns, having brought sweet chilli crisps because there were no prawn cocktail.

"That's ideal"

He tells her that will be ideal, as Iolo and his father are looking very concerned.

"He's trying to get rid of me!"

Eleri has got it into her head, “He’s trying to get rid of me!   He and Ffion are mates – perhaps she said that we don’t get on.”

"Siôn wouldn't do that"

Jinx tries to convince her that Siôn would not do that, but her mind is made up, “That’s why he won’t face me – he feels guilty!   Either him or Arwen –

"That Arwen's not as innocent as you think"

“she’s not as innocent as you think.”

Jinx makes it very clear that it was not her, but this has little effect,

"She hates me!"

as Eleri continues ranting on with her explanation, “She hates me and she knew I’d be running near the dam that day.”

"It was me!"

Jinx has no alternative but to tell her, “It was me!” but it is a few seconds before Eleri stops her tirade and he has to say it again, “It was me!   I phoned the police, OK?”

She is temporarily dumbstruck

This stops Eleri in her tracks;  after pausing for a few seconds, she gets up from her seat and storms out of the pub.

That did not go well

Tom turns round;  he and Jinx glower at each other, after which Jinx also leaves.

"If you're ready, that's what we'll do"

Ieuan offers, “If you’re ready to look at care homes, that’s what we’ll do.

“It’s about time we went through this file first, I think.   I know – I’m scared, too.   I’m sorry I’ve had my head in the sand for so long – no wonder you turned to Diane.”

"I just couldn't think straight"

Anita is also sorry;  “I just didn’t want to hurt you – I couldn’t think straight, that’s all.”

"You must tell me"

Ieuan says that if she ever feels like that again, she must tell him and she agrees.

"Do you want a choc ice . . ."

“Hey, do you want a choc ice?” he suddenly asks,

". . . to celebrate the peace treaty?"

“To celebrate the peace treaty?” and they both burst out laughing.

“Well, you’ve made me laugh,” says Anita and he points out that he did promise on their wedding day to do it every day.

"I love you"

“I love you,” she tells him and he repeats the same thing to her.

"It's there – the mischief!"

“Hey, it’s there – the mischief!” she smiles, pointing to his eyes

She kisses him

and kisses him.

Tom approaches Siôn

Tom comes out of the Deri, crossing the road to where Siôn is standing outside MFC;  “I was sorry to hear about Cai – how is he?”

"It's early days yet"

Siôn replies that it is early days yet and he is assured that Tom and Gaynor are thinking of them all.

"If there's anything you need . . . "

If they need anything, Siôn should just ask.

"Could you ask Gaynor to call over?"

“There is something, actually – could you ask Gaynor to call over?   I just want to discuss something.

"Tell her to come over"

“Tell her to come over when she gets the chance.”

"What did he want?"

As Tom walks away, Iolo emerges from MFC and wonders what he wanted;  “Only to sympathise,” his father replies.

"What are we going to do about Cai?"

Iolo demands what they are going to do about Cai;

"Hope he will accept help"

“Listen, support him and just hope that he will accept the help that’s available to him,”is his father’s answer.

Jinx chases after Eleri

Eleri is striding along the back street towards Cysgod y Glyn with Jinx chasing after her;

"I'm sorry I suspected you"

“I’m sorry I suspected you,” he says.

"You think I would attack you?"

“You think I would attack you?” she shouts, attracting the attention of Madge, who is walking past.

"I'm not a detective"

His reasoning was that he thought the police should know;  he is sorry that he is not a detective.

"You're not a good boyfriend either!"

“You’re not a good boyfriend either!” she yells at him and he protests that at least he was honest.   “Only after I blamed Siôn and Arwen!” is her riposte,

"I would like to forget about this"

but he would like to just forget about this.

“I should thank you – you’ve helped me realise I shouldn’t have trusted another man,” and he begs to be given another chance, arguing that they are ‘good together – in a strange sort of way’.

"Whatever we had – we haven't got it any more!"

She obviously has different ideas;  “Whatever we had – we haven’t got it any more!   Leave me alone.”

"He seemed in good spirits, considering"

Lleucu joins Siôn and Iolo outside MFC;  “He seemed in good spirits, considering,” she says,

Dani finds it difficult to stand up

then notices Dani coming out of the Deri, in a very unsteady fashion;  “Look at her.”

Iolo reckons that she must be suffering after the trip as well;  “She went at the last minute . . .

"It was her tablets your father took"

“and it was her tablets that your father took.”

Iolo is left holding the chicken

Lleucu thrusts the MFC meal into his hands and rushes across the road towards the Deri.

"What did you say to him"

“What did you say to him?   Look at the state of you,” she shouts.

Siôn tries to intervene, pointing out that this will not accomplish anything,

"Why did you go on the trip?"

but Lleucu is determined to proceed;  “You upset Dad, didn’t you?   Why did you go on the trip?”

"I just wanted a change"

Dani maintains that she just wanted a change and hardly talked to him.

"How did he get hold of your tablets, then?"

“How did he get hold of your tablets, then?” Lleucu demands and

"I must have left them on the bar"

Dani says that she must have left them on the bar.

"You did it on purpose!"

“You did it on purpose!” Lleucu snarls, but Dani denies that it was deliberate.   “I’ll never forgive you for this!”   As Dani staggers away,

"It's a pity it wasn't you who took those tablets!"

Lleucu shouts after her, “It’s a pity it wasn’t you that took those tablets!”

Dani walks away

Dani continues walking and says nothing.
