Siôn has a dilemma

Siôn comes downstairs, carrying two ties;  he asks Iolo and Cai which of them he should wear.   He explains that he is going to see Eileen in the prison;  

"She'll be in an orange jumpsuit"

Lleucu predicts that she will be in an orange jumpsuit, 

"This is not America, Lleucu"

but he replies that this is not America.   “I thought I was helping you with the speech for tomorrow,” she continues.

"Keep away from talks about the dam, Lleucu"

Her father warns her to keep away from the talks about the dam this time, but she insists that she is helping Siôn.   “It’s all right – I know what I want to say – Mark and Ffion will also be speaking.”

Iolo has been taking no interest in this conversation, but staring at his phone;  

"I've got too much on my mind!"

on the subject of the ties, he snaps, “Does it matter?   I’ve got too much on my mind.”   Siôn has to leave now.

"Do you want some scrambled eggs?"

Dani is in her usual position on the sofa;  Jinx ask if she wants some scrambled eggs and she replies that she does not.   

"Give them to Gwern – it's Monday"

“Give them to Gwern – it’s Monday, so he’ll need something before school.”   

"Actually, it's Tuesday, Dani" — although the episode was shown on Wednesday

Jinx enlightens her that it is actually Tuesday.

"I'm meeting Lleucu at school"

Gwern comes downstairs in a hurry and does not want the scrambled eggs as he is off to school;  “I’ll have something in the school canteen – I’m meeting Lleucu there.”

"I'm glad"

Dani forces herself to say, “Good – I’m glad – it’s a good thing,” 

He was not expecting that

which he finds rather surprising.   “I’ve lost Monday and the weekend moping round here, 

"It's time to find some kind of normal"

“so it’s time for us to find some sort of normal, isn’t it?” she adds.

"It was only last week, Dani"

Jinx reminds her that it was only last week, but she is intent on going to have a shower and then she will come down for those eggs;  

"Then we can go for a walk"

“Then we can go for a walk this afternoon, if you want to,” she suggests, “If not, well, I’m going anyway.   Enjoy yourself with Lleucu – see you later.”

"Where's Gaynor?"

At Llwyncelyn, Cheryl is doing the washing-up when Tom walks in, looking for Gaynor.   

“She’s out in the garden, getting some fresh air,” he is told.

"She needs it after that feast you made"

“She needs it after that feast you made for breakfast,” he remarks and she replies that her mother did not teach her much, 

"She was a dab hand at 'crempogs'!"

but she was a dab hand at ‘crempogs’ [pancakes].   

"And her fry-ups"

“Oh yes, I remember them – and her fry-ups – she loved feeding people.”

She refuses any help, but he begins the drying-up nevertheless, 

"You've been doing everything for Gaynor"

insisting that it is no problem;  she has been busy, doing everything for Gaynor all morning.   “Well, she is my sister and I want to help.”   

"I'm here too, you know"

He points out that she does not have to do everything herself – he is there, too;  

Tom grasps her arm . . .

“For both of you,” he adds, grasping her arm, 

. . . which she finds disconcerting

which she finds very disconcerting.

"What's so important, then?"

Kelly visits Eleri at Cysgod y Glyn;  “So, what’s so important that it couldn’t wait until the office?” she asks.   

"We need to discuss your leave"

She is told that they need to discuss her leave – the days she has left to take.   “I haven’t been in the mood to take a holiday this year,” Kelly explains.

"I need you to use them as soon as possible"

“I need you to use them as soon as possible,” Eleri instructs her, but Kelly had been thinking that she could save them for next year.

"Organise a big trip"

“Organise a big trip – North America, Canada,” but she is informed that she cannot carry them over 

"It would help if you took the next three weeks off"

and it would help Eleri if she took the next three weeks off.

"You what?"

Kelly laughs, “You what?”   It is pointed out that they are not busy and Eleri is hoping that things will be a lot busier in the New Year.   

"Am I supposed to sit int the house?"

“OK – am I supposed to sit in the house, staring at four walls, with a microwave dinner or what?” moans Kelly.

"Use them or lose them!"

“If you don’t use them by the end of the year, Kelly, they’ll be gone!” she is bluntly told, “You decide – use them or lose them!”

"Wow!"

“Wow!” gasps Kelly, then walks out of the flat.

Siôn is at the prison . . .

It is visiting time at the prison and Siôn approaches the table at which Eileen is sitting;  

. . . which pleases Eileen 

she looks very pleased to see him and compliments him him on the tie, which he explains is just the first thing he found this morning.

"How are you?"

He apologises for not coming to see her before and asks how she is;  “It’s so difficult, Siôn, being away, stuck here every day,” she whines, 

"I don't think I can stand it much longer!"

“I don’t think I can stand it much longer!”   

Siôn is lost for words"

Siôn is at a loss to know what to say in response to this.

Gwern arrives at MFC

Lleucu is sitting in MFC when Gwern comes in;  she says that she has bought him lunch.   

"I'm starving!"

He says that he is starving, after having no breakfast.

"I was talking to Dad"

She apologises for not turning up as arranged this morning;  he complains that he was waiting for ages.   “I was talking to Dad,” she says 

"And he kept you away on purpose"

and he suspects her father kept her away on purpose.

"I'm worried about him"

“I’m the one who wanted to talk to him,” she explains, “I’m worried about him.”   Gwern comments that he will get his violin, which angers Lleucu.

"Do you expect me to feel sorry for him?"

“What?   Do you expect me to feel sorry for him?”   Lleucu points out that he has been through a lot lately;  “And I haven’t?” Gwern snarls.

She insists that it is not a competition, but she is just worried about her father.   

"It's his fault my sister is dead!"

Gwern stresses, “It’s his fault that my sister is dead!” so she gets up from her seat and he demands where she is going.

"I'm going home!"

“Home!” she replies, and he sneers that she is going to ditch her boyfriend for breakfast and lunch.   

"You're not my boyfriend any more!"

“You’re not my boyfriend any more – I don’t want to be with someone who can be so callous about my family!”   

And off she goes

So saying, she leaves MFC.

"All right, stranger?"

Kelly finds Cheryl in the deli;  “All right, stranger?” she says, which gives Cheryl quite a shock;  she thought Kelly was someone else.   

"In a world of your own, were you?"

“Oh – in a world of your own were you?   Are you all right?”   

"Yeah, I'm fine"

Cheryl tries to give the impression that she is, but Kelly can see that is not the case.

"Do you want to go somewhere else to talk?"

“Do you want to go somewhere else to talk?” she suggests, “I have to take all my holidays, apparently, so I might as well take the afternoon off – 

"Lunch at my house, right?"

“lunch at my house, right?”

"I'm not very good company today"

Eileen confesses that she is not very good company today;  “But seeing you and hearing you talk makes me miss Huwi, Sioned – and I barely know Jac and Lili.   

"I'm worried about Sioned being on her own"

“I’m worried about Sioned being on her own at Penrhewl.”

"I'll go over there tomorrow"

Siôn offers to go up and see her;  he would be glad to do that and will do so tomorrow.   “If there’s anything else I can do . . .” he goes on.

"Someone should keep an eye on the businesses"

“It would help if someone other than Sioned kept an eye on Tamed and the other businesses,” says Eileen 

"It would be a pleasure"

and he says that it would be a pleasure.

He did not need much persuading

She smiles at her accomplishment, just as they are warned that there are five minutes remaining, so once again she turns on the tears.   

"You should be coming home with me"

“This is silly,” insists Siôn, “You should be coming home with me – you should go and see Sioned yourself – you’re not a threat to anyone.   Have you asked your solicitor if there is anything you can do?   An appeal?”

"An appeal can take months"

“I’ve talked to some of the women here and they say an appeal can take months,” she groans, but Siôn thinks that it is worth trying.

"I'll phone him tonight"

“I’m going to phone him tonight – it’s not fair.”   

He clasps Eileen's hands

As he clasps Eileen’s hands, he goes on, “You deserve to be out of here as soon as possible!”

"Is anyone from Quantum Hydro Works here?"

Tom is in the site office of Quantum when Iolo comes in;  “Is there anyone from Quantum Hydro Works I can talk to?”   Apparently they have just left, so Tom offers to help.

"I don't know anything about dams"

“I received an email from the HR department – I think there’s been a mistake because I’m a plumber and I don’t know anything about dams.”   Tom points out that the work will not be anything to do with the dam itself;  

"I'm sure that you'll manage"

“But I’m sure you’ll manage – that’s what I told them anyway.   They want to give some local tradespeople an opportunity – and I’d heard good things about you.   Are you interested?”

"Worried about what people will say?"

Iolo says that he needs to find out a little more about the company first and Tom suspects that he may be worried about what people in the village will say.   “I’m worried about what Dad will say!” replies Iolo.

"I'll give you the lowdown"

He is invited to take a seat and Tom will explain things to him.

Dani is going for her walk

Dani comes out of the house, followed by Jinx, just as Eleri is approaching along the street, with her umbrella up.   “Are you sure you want to do this today?” Jinx asks, 

"We're only going for a walk, Jinx"

but Dani says that they are only going for a walk.

"It's nice to see you out, Dani"

Eleri remarks that it is nice to see Dani out;  “Jinx is taking me for some fresh air,” she replies, “I don’t know what I would do without him.”   

"It's important to have someone you can trust"

Eleri agrees that it is important to have someone she can trust.

"Right we'd better go, Dani"

Jinx is in a hurry to go, warning that it will be dark before they get back 

"If you ever want some different company . . ."

and Eleri offers, “If you ever want some different company – a cup of tea or something stronger, give me a ring.”   

Jinx did not appreciate that

She looks angrily at Jinx as they walk away.

"If you're worried he's going to do something . . ."

“If you’re worried he’s going to do something . . .” Kelly begins, but Cheryl says that it is nothing like that;  she is just worried that she did not stop him.

"I just stood there and let him touch my arm"

“I just stood there and let him touch my arm – if he had done that six weeks ago, I would have done something I’d regret.”

"Are you saying you have feelings for him?"

Kelly imagines that she is saying that she has feelings towards Dave;  

"I did love him, you know"

“I did have – I loved him, you know.   When he was nice he could be so lovely.”

"And when he wasn't, he was a monster"

Speaking from personal experience, Kelly goes on, “And when he wasn’t lovely, he was a monster – and that’s why you left him.”   

"I've only seen the nice side since he's been in Cwmderi"

Cheryl admits that if she is completely honest with herself, she has only seen the nice side since he arrived in Cwmderi.   She has to remind herself that he is the same man.

"Take it from me, a leopard never changes its spots!"

Kelly is adamant that he is, “And take it from me, a leopard never changes its spots!”

"But what if he has?"

“But what if he has?” Cheryl demands.   Kelly is very doubtful about that, pointing out that even if he has, he is with her sister now – and she has Mark. 

"Mark loves you  – do you really want to throw that away?"

“Mark loves you – and he’s not violent – he’s not manipulative – and he always puts you first.   Do you really want to throw that away?”   

"Do you really need to be there?"

Cheryl is so confused and is recommended, “Take a step back, then.   Do you really need to be there?”

Iolo comes home

Iolo arrives back at Y Felin and finds Cai sitting in front of the television;  his father is working on the laptop.   

"Have you got a minute, Dad?"

“Have you got a minute?” Iolo asks, 

"I got this e-mail . . ."

“I got this e-mail . . .”   However, he gets no further because Siôn’s phone rings.

"Sorry, I have to take this!"

“Oh, sorry, I have to take this!” says Siôn, then speaks into the phone, “Hi, Malcolm, thanks for calling back.   Iolo goes upstairs.

Lleucu comes in and . . . 

Lleucu comes in 

. . . turns off the tv

and turns off the television, which wakes up her father;  

"I was watching that!"

“I was watching that!” he protests, but she tells him that she has had an idea.

"Why don't we go away over Christmas – to Dubai?"

“Why don’t we go away over Christmas?   To Dubai!”   

"Where has this come from?"

He wonders where this has come from, 

"You said how nice it would be to go somewhere"

so she goes on, “You said this morning how nice it would be to go somewhere.”   He argues that he was not serious about that, but she perseveres, “Wouldn’t it be nice to spend Christmas with Twm?” 

"I don't think your mother will let me stay"

“I don’t think your mother will let me stay,” Cai grumbles, Lleucu promises that she will deal with her mother.   “Don’t you want to spend Christmas with Gwern?” he asks.

"We've finished!"

“We’ve finished,” Lleucu announces, “And you’re more important to me than Gwern is, anyway.   If some time away will help you, I can’t think of a better way to spend Christmas.”

He replies that he will look into it, but is not promising anything;  

"You agree that its's good idea?"

“But you agree that it’s a good idea?”   He sighs how lucky he is to have a daughter who cares so much about her father.

"Don't get used to it!"

“Don’t get used to it – once you turn 60, the care home is on speed dial!” she warns him.

Gwern creeps in the back way . . .

Gwern creeps in through the back door of number 9 and is pleased to find that neither Dani or Jinx are there;  

. . . looks at his ex-girlfriend . . .

he looks at his phone, with the picture of Lleucu and him, then tosses it down on the table.   

. . . takes out a bottle of Ceffyl Du 

He takes out of his schoolbag a bottle of Ceffyl Du, which has not even been labelled, 

. . . and starts another binge

removes the cap and starts drinking to drown his sorrows.

"I'm not ecstatic, by the way"

Kelly returns to Cysgod y Glyn and informs Eleri of her decision;  “I’m happy – not ecstatic, by the way – to take my holidays now.”   Eleri is glad to hear it.   “I probably need a recharge anyway.”

"Are you really going to sit in the house?"

Eleri wonders if she is really going to sit in the house, staring at four walls, with a microwave dinner, but Kelly has other ideas.   

"There are a couple of flights to Portugal . . ."

“There are a couple of flights to Portugal next week – 

". . . and I really want to try those Custard Tarts"

“and I really want to try those custard tarts.”

"Pastel de Nata"

“Pastel de Nata – there are lovely ones in Tamed,” observes Eleri, “Right, let’s take a look at the rota.

"Are you free, Dad?"

When Iolo comes back downstairs, he asks if his father is free;  “I’ve been busy talking to Eileen’s solicitor and finishing this speech for tomorrow,” Siôn replies.

"That meeting about the dam – I won't be coming"

“The meeting about the dam, yeah?   I won’t be coming,” says Iolo, “And I’ve withdrawn my letter of objection.   

"I can't oppose the dam, Dad"

“I can’t oppose the dam, Dad – that’s what I have been trying to discuss with you.”   

Siôn disapproves

Siôn does not like the sound of this.

"I've been offered work on the project"

“I’ve been offered work on the project,” Iolo continues 

Now Siôn is outraged

and his father looks outraged.

Cheryl is all packed

When Tom returns to Llwyncelyn, he finds that Cheryl has packed her case 

"Where are you going?"

and asks where she is going.   

"Maes-y-Deri – home"

“Maes-y-Deri – home,” she replies, “I was only here temporarily to help Gaynor recover.”   He reminds her that her sister is still not 100%.

“But it makes more sense for you to be here,” she concedes, “That’s what Gaynor wants, I suspect.   

"And I should go back to Mark"

“And I should go back to Mark.”   She shouts upstairs to Gaynor, “I’m leaving now!” and maintains that it is for the best.   

Not what he had planned

Tom obviously does not agree with that. 

"If I don't take the work, someone else will"

“If I don’t take the work, someone else in another village will – and you will be the first to complain about that,” Iolo stresses, “I don’t want people to lose their homes – I really don’t – but if they get this result tomorrow, Dad, 

"Why can't we benefit from this?"

“why can’t we benefit from this?”

"Principles – supposedly!"

His father answers, “Because you have principles – supposedly!” getting up and going upstairs.

Dani is back

Dani returns home and calls for Jinx, 

Five Ceffyl Du – plus a vodka?

then notices five empty Ceffyl Du bottles lined up on the kitchen worktop.

He is still breathing

She hurries into the kitchen where Gwern is lying on the floor in a drunken stupor;  

She tries to lift him . . .

she tries with difficulty to rouse him, 

. . . then calls for an ambulance

then grabs her phone and calls for an ambulance.

"Where's Dani?"

Jinx arrives at Cysgod y Glyn;  “Where’s Dani?” Eleri enquires, 

"What would she say if she knew you were here?"

“And what would she say if she knew you were here?”   He urges her not to do this – saying things – hinting, especially in front of Dani.

"Worried she'll find out what happened?"

“Are you worried she’s going to find out what happened between us?   Because you gave the impression that you were over – that you weren’t happy – that you were about to leave.   And now you’re holding her hand, taking her for a walk.”

"I can't finish with her in the middle of this"

“Listen, she’s vulnerable – I can’t finish with her in the middle of this,” he insists.

"And I was a bit of fun"

“And I was a bit of fun while Dani’s not in the mood,” Eleri sneers, but he argues that he is not that sort of man.   “That’s what men like that say.”

Jinx does not want to hurt anyone.   

"You're not the nice guy everyone thinks you are!"

She comments, “You’re not the nice guy everyone thinks you are, are you?”   

He replies that she brings it out in him and realises that she is jealous.

"This is jealousy"

“You are – that’s why you’re behaving like this – it’s jealousy.”   

"Was there anything else?"

She wonders if there was anything else – there obviously is —

"Not again!"

and they kiss again.
