"I've sold two houses today, Jase"

Jason is sawing wood round the back of APD as Kelly reports to him that she has sold two houses in one day;

"That's good, isn't it?"

“That’s good, isn’t it?” he comments, and she informs him that they were bang on the asking price.

“Fancy a celebration tonight?” she says, and he imagines that he can squeeze a couple of pints in at the Deri;  he will ask his mother to babysit.

"I can hardly contain myself!"

However, Kelly is less impressed;  “The Deri – I can hardly contain myself!”   He gets the impression that she is calling him boring and wants something more exciting;  “Yep!” she agrees.

"Righto, missus, I'm taking you out!"

“Righto, go and put your glad rags on, missus, because I’m taking you out!” says Jason, but will not reveal where they are going, as it is a surprise.

Kelly is looking forward to it

Kelly is intrigued, as he continues with his sawing.

"Where have you been, Arwen?"

Arwen returns to Cysgod y Glyn and her mother asks her where she has been;

"Dad took me bowling"

“Dad took me for a burger and a few rounds of bowling,” Arwen replies, and then reveals that she actually had hockey after school.

“We need to discuss this at some point,” Ffion tells her, but Arwen says that she is busy with homework.

"Why didn't you tell me Macs has been hassling you?"

“Why didn’t you tell me that Macs is hassling you?” Ffion demands.

"I phoned him"

“He’s not – I phoned him,” she answers, and her mother wonders how she got hold of his number.   “Grandad gave it to me.”

"You'll be a lot happier without Macs in your life"

“Look, I wouldn’t say this if I didn’t really mean it – but you’ll be a lot happier without Macs in your life, trust me,” Ffion warns, but Arwen replies that her mother would say that.   “Please don’t phone him again,” she is instructed, but Arwen simply says that she is going to Erin’s.

"I know what he's like!"

Ffion exclaims, “I’m trying to look after you because I know what he’s like!”

Cassie is anxious to get some help

In the Deri, both Cassie and Kath are behind the bar and appear to have had a busy day;  “The sooner we get another pair of hands and feet here the better,” Cassie complains.

"I've found someone – Cheryl"

“Oh, I forgot to tell you – I’ve found someone,” Kath informs her, “Cheryl, Gaynor’s sister, who did my hair.   Don’t worry – she’s completely different to Gaynor.”

"I'll send her an application form"

Cassie proposes to send her an application form via e-mail, and then they can call her in for a chat.

"There's no need to bother with that"

“Well,” says Kath, “There’s no need to bother with all that I’ve offered her the job already.”

"You've done what?"

Cassie does not like the sound of that.

"The table in the window, with the amazing view"

As Jason walks along the street, he is on the phone to a restaurant, booking a table;  “The table in the window, so that we can enjoy that amazing view –

"Mr and Mrs Francis-Evans"

“yes, Mr and Mrs Francis-Evans – that’s great, thank you.”

"Nice one, Jase!"

He ends the call and mutters to himself, “Nice one, Jase!”

Then something troubles him . . .

Then he notices something across the street which causes him some concern.   It is Dai and Diane, who are walking past the Deri.

. . . Dai and Diane by the Deri

“What are you doing?” Jason demands, “Please say you’re on the way back to the house.”

"What?   All dressed up like this?"

His mother shows him that she is all dressed up with evening wear, and tells him that they are going to have dinner with Catrina Lewis.

“Imagine!   She’s on the county council with me,” Diane proudly announces, but Dai does not look at all enthusiastic.

This disrupts Jason's plan

Jason is rather upset at this turn of events.

There is some friction in the Deri

When Dai and Diane enter the Deri, Cassie is angrily telling Kath, “I don’t care if Cheryl is the best barmaid in the world – you didn’t discuss it with me!”

"You said that good staff are rare"

“You said yourself that good staff are rare,” Kath reminds her, and when Diane compliments her on her hair, simply continues the argument;  “And this member of the team has found us a barmaid.”

"And a half for Dai"

Diane asks for a G&T and a half for Dai, but is pretty much ignored as the shouting match continues;

"You're not my boss!"

“You may have been the manager when Garry was here – but you’re not my boss!”

Cassie’s retort is that Kath is not her boss, either.

"That's what I like – the homely atmosphere"

Dai remarks, “That’s what I like about the Deri – the homely atmosphere,” but still they continue, with Kath admitting that perhaps she should have spoken to Cassie, who is jubilant that she has got the message at last.

Diane looks at her watch and suggests that they should go now;  “No, you can’t turn up for dinner early,” Dai tells her.

“I’ll get your drinks now – or do I need to check with you first?” Kath asks Cassie,

"I'm not doing that!"

who replies that she must phone Cheryl and tell her that they are withdrawing the offer.   “I’m not doing that!” Kath snarls, so Cassie demands the phone, so she can do it.

“I haven’t got her number,” says Kath,

"You employed someone without knowing their phone number?"

and Cassie is incredulous that she has employed someone without knowing their phone number.

"Come on, Dai – we're going"

Diane has had enough of this, and instructs Dai that they are going now.

Dai suddenly cries out in pain

Suddenly, without any warning, he appears to suffer an excruciating pain in his leg.

"Kelly!"

Jason arrives back at Llwyncelyn and calls for Kelly;

"I can't remember the last time we went out . . ."

she comes downstairs, asking for advice on which of her black coats she should wear.   “I can’t remember the last time we went out –

". . . was it our honeymoon?"

“was it our honeymoon?” she excitedly asks.   “Go and have a shower, Jase, because I don’t want you smelling of APD.”

"Sorry – we're not going out"

He breaks the bad news, “I’ve had to cancel the table – sorry – we’re not going out.   I should have checked with Mam and Dai – they’re going out now, and who else could we ask?   Auntie Neet?”

"No, she's fully booked"

Kelly knows that Anita is fully booked.

"Hang on – we can still do this"

“Hang on – we can still do this,” he maintains, “Right, oven on, oven chips and fish fingers in.

"Football in the garden, dinner, bath, Peppa Pig . . ."

“Twenty minutes of football in the garden with Ifan, come in, dinner, bath, Peppa Pig story, quality time with Dadi.   Ifan will be fast asleep before you can turn round –

". . . and then . . ."

“and then . . .”

"Go for it"

Kelly anticipates, “And then . . . go for it!”

"Jason, you will go on my first whistle!"

As he turns the oven control knobs, he exclaims, “Jason, you will go on my first whistle!”

Kelly is out of the house

Kelly dashes out of the front door,

"Game of football, Ifan?"

while Jason calls Ifan for a game of football.

Diane tries to ease Dai's pain

In the Deri, Diane is massaging Dai’s leg as he makes suitably agonising groans;

"Some kind of arthritic cramp . . ."

“I think it’s some kind of arthritic cramp,” he tells her,

". . . take me home, will you?"

“Take me home, will you?   Phone a taxi.”   She is distraught at missing the dinner with Catrina Lois,

"She's making Beef Wellington"

who is making Beef Wellington, which is an enormous amount of work.

"I can't go like this, can I?"

“I can’t go like this, can I?” he stresses, and she points out how important this evening is for her.   “Tell the leg, not me!” Dai snaps.

Cassie tells her to go for her big dinner, and she will take Dai home;

"I don't want to be any trouble, Cassie"

he, however, does not want her to go to any trouble, but Cassie insists, pointing out that Kath will be fine on her own.

"Do you want to have a meeting to discuss it?"

Kath suggests that they have a committee meeting to discuss it.

Diane finally agrees to go on her own;

"If there's any Beef Wellington going spare . . ."

“And if there is any Beef Wellington going spare, ask for a doggy bag,” Dai comments.   As soon as Diane is out of the door, Dai’s pain seems to miraculously disappear.

All of a sudden, he is fit again

“There’s no rush, is there?   Bring me a brandy, will you?   Make it a large one, purely medicinal,” he says.

"Macs is her father"

Ffion has gone round to Y Felin, where Siôn explains, “I didn’t want to come between them – he’s her father.”   [This has never been conclusively proven]

"We're not talking about any old father here, Siôn!"

“We’re not talking about any old father here, Siôn,” she rages, “He messed with her head and tried to take her from Cwmderi!”

"He was going through a hard time"

Siôn argues that Macs was going through a tough time, but she sneers, “Macs is always going through a tough time.   It’s not easy for Arwen – being a teenager is hard –

"The last thing she needs is a psycho like Macs!"

“the last thing she needs is a psycho like Macs!”

Then she has another of her episodes . . .

After saying that, she appears that she is about to faint, which Siôn finds very concerning.

. . . which makes Siôn very worried

She sinks down on the sofa, quite unresponsive.

Dai is making the most of it

Now Dai is at the bar, downing another one and asking Cassie for a refill;  “The brandy is working miracles on your leg,” she comments,

"It should be available on prescription"

“It should be available on prescription.”

Who is that, coming in through the door?

“Between the three of us – and those optics – there isn’t much wrong,” he says, “I’m fine –

"I could run a marathon!"

“I could run a marathon, to be honest with you!”

What he has not noticed, but both Kath and Cassie have, is that Diane has just come in through the door and is listening to what he is saying.

"I'd like to see you try!"

When she says, “I’d like to see you try!” he turns round with a look of terror on his face.

“Goodness, Diane, what are you doing back?” he gasps.

"It will pass – they don't last long"

Siôn has escorted Ffion back to Cysgod y Glyn, and advises her to take it easy, but she assures him, “It will pass – they don’t last long.”

"Have you seen a doctor?"

He is worried that this has happened before and asks if she has seen a doctor.

"That business with Macs and Arwen isn't helping"

“Yes – and I have an appointment to see a specialist before long – it’s probably stress – and this business with Macs and Arwen isn’t helping.   The appointment is in about three weeks, but I don’t want a fuss, Siôn.”

Arwen is listening to this

Arwen is listening from the doorway,

"If it was something major, the GP would have flagged it"

as she goes on, “If it was something major, the GP would have flagged it.”

"Are you all right, Mam?"

Arwen is extremely worried about her mother.

Jason is all prepared

Jason has been busy, cooking and laying the table, when Kelly returns, having done some shopping.

"Your favourite – Thai!"

“Your favourite – Thai!” she says, “I’ve got red and green, noodles and spring rolls – the works! Hello”

"We really need to work on out spontaneity"

She is very impressed by the preparations which Jason has made, and comments, “We really need to work on our spontaneity, don’t we.”

"I'm starving, Kelly"

Jason is starving.

Dai and Diane sit glumly at MFC

In MFC, where are they have ended up, Diane demands an explanation;  “There’s nothing to say – I just wasn’t in the mood,” Dai replies, “People like Catrina are full of themselves.”

"How many business dinners have I suffered for you?"

“How many business dinners have suffered for you?” Diane asks, “Not to mention the golf ones.”   He had been under the impression that she enjoyed it, but she emphasises, “No-one enjoys those things, Dai – we just count the hours until we’re back on the sofa – everyone knows that.

"I just feel like a spare part"

“This was my first dinner as a county councillor – was it too to ask for a little support?”   He maintains that he does support her, but feels like a spare part at such events.

"I get on my own nerves, let alone everyone else's"

He sighs, “I was the busy one, with his finger in everything.   Nefi wen!   These days I get on my own nerves, let alone everyone else’s!”   She appreciates that it is not easy having to slow down, especially when he has been so busy.

"I've come to an emergency stop!"

“Slow down?   Blimey, I’ve come to an emergency stop – handbrake on!   I’ll be in reverse next,” he moans, but she maintains that this does not mean he does not have a rôle any more –

"I need you by my side"

she needs him by her side.

"You're only saying that to make me feel better"

“You’re only saying that to make me feel better,” he grumbles, and she likens the two of them to the chicken and chips in front of them (which must be getting cold by now).

"They're much better together"

“They’re all right on their own – but they’re much better together.”

"Why did you come back so quickly?"

“Talking of food, what did you come back so quickly?” Dai enquires

"I got cold feet"

and she confesses that she got cold feet;  she did not know anyone who was going to be there.

"You're my other half, Dai"

“You see, you’re my other half, Dai.

Salad is supposed to be cold, isn't it?"

“Now eat that salad before it gets cold.”

"Perhaps I overreacted"

Kath is deep in thought behind the bar, so Cassie begins, “Right, I want to apologise – perhaps I overreacted – but there we are, we’re finding our feet and we’ll get through it.”

"Brynmor was right – I should have checked with you first"

After a pause, Kath says, “Well, Brynmor was right – he said I should have checked with you first.”

This does not go down well with Cassie;

"He knew about this before me?"

“So you’re saying that Brynmor knew about this appointment before me?”

"I was just sharing the news"

but she says she was just sharing the news with Brynmor that she had found a new hairdresser and a barmaid, that is all.

“Well, stick to telling him what you had for dinner from now,” Cassie advises her.

A message arrives

Then a message arrives on Kath’s phone, as Cassie continues, “We’re supposed to be running a professional business – that’s what we’re meant to do.”

"He's not coming home now"

Kath is looking dismayed and says that he is not coming home now.

"She's sleeping now"

Arwen has put her mother to bed and tells Siôn that she is sleeping;

"Did she actually pass out?"

“Did she actually pass out?   Like a full blackout?” she asks.

He tries to downplay it, maintaining that Ffion was just a bit lightheaded;  “I think your mother is under pressure,

A squeaky panda was down the back of the sofa

then as he sits back on the sofa, he causes a squeaky panda to emit a sound.

"Perhaps you shouldn't contact your father for a while"

“Listen, perhaps you shouldn’t contact your father for a little while,” he recommends, “We don’t want to worry your mother,”

"Yeah, OK"

and she agrees.

"If you need anything, just get in touch"

“Remember, if you need anything, just get in touch,” he says, as he leaves the flat.

Arwen consults the laptop

Arwen gets up and goes to the laptop, in particular to the ‘GoSearch’ website,

She searches on GoSearch . . .

where she types in, ‘Can stress cause blackouts?’

. . . and studies the results

and studies the results.

"Do you remember out first kiss?"

Kelly and Jason are enjoying their romantic evening;  “Do you remember our first kiss?” Kelly asks,

"New Year's Eve?"

“New Year’s Eve?”

Jason remembers that he was really nervous;  “I was talking nonsense when all I really wanted to do was . . . kiss you.   So I did,

"I asked you if that was nice"

“and then I asked you if that was nice, and you said it was – and then I asked . . .”

"Do you want me to do it again"

Kelly completes his sentence, “Do you want me to do it again?”

"Let's go upstairs"

He proposes that they should go upstairs, but she reminds him that Ifan is asleep

Kelly unbuttons his shirt . . .

and begins to unbutton his shirt.

. . . and starts removing her dress . . .

Just as she is about to remove her dress, they are alarmed to hear the door open,

. . . but then they are rudely interrupted

and Dai can be heard, loudly belching

"What spices do they put on the chicken?"

and demanding, “What spices do they put on the chicken in MFC?”   Diane squeals when she sees their incomplete state of dress,

"Crikey Moses!   Put it away, will you, Jason?"

and Dai comments, ‘Oh, Crikey Moses!   Put it away, will you, Jason?”

Kelly cannot put up with this any longer

Kelly does not look at all happy.

"If it's all right with you, it's all right with me"

Cassie joins Kath at one of the tables and tells her she does not need to withdraw Cheryl’s offer;  “If it’s all right with you, it’s all right with me.   Did Brynmor give a reason?”

"He wants to see more of that part of the world"

“He just wants to see more of that part of the world,” Kath rather evasively replies, “He’s in South America now,” and Cassie is surprised that Kath accepts that situation.

"We don't live in each other's pockets"

“Yes, we don’t live in each other’s pockets,” is the reply.

“Aren’t you worried about him?” Cassie wonders,

"He could get into trouble on his own"

“He’s not getting any younger and he could get into trouble on his own.”

"He's not on his own"

Kath is forced to admit that he is not on his own,

"He's with another woman?"

and Cassie immediately jumps to the conclusion that he is with another woman.

“In a way, yes,” and Cassie now imagines that she is younger than him.   “He hasn’t got a girlfriend!

"He's with his daughter"

“He’s with his daughter,” which comes as a complete surprise.   “You weren’t to know that he has a daughter – and no-one else knows either.”

Cassie is eager to ask more questions, but is told, “I’ve said too much already – just leave it, all right?”   She is asked if the daughter is ill, but Kath will give no more information.

"He must have a good reason"

“Brynmor must have a good reason to stay away for months like this,” but Kath refuses to divulge anything else.

"I didn't recognise you with your clothes on"

Dai is drying up the dishes when Jason reappears;  “I didn’t recognise you with your clothes on,” Dai comments, and Diane does not know who had the biggest shock.

“You said you were going out!” Jason snarls, “What happened to Clarissa?”   He is told that it was Catrina.

"Nothing happened"

Kelly is looking at her laptop and insists that nothing happened;

"You're married – its natural"

“Don’t be embarrassed – you’re married – it’s natural,” Diane says, “I remember, in Australia, by the pool – do you remember, Dai?   We thought the neighbours were away, and . . .”

"That's the end of the story, Mam"

Jason calls an immediate end to this story

"No, ta"

and offers a glass of wine to Kelly, who declines.   Diane suggests that they go out for a drink,

"I think the moment's passed, Jase"

but Kelly groans, “I think the moment’s passed, Jase.”

"I'm getting my money's worth with these chicken nuggets!"

Dai belches once again;  “Nefi wen!   I’m getting my money’s worth with the chicken nuggets!   I’m tasting everything two or three times.”

This seems to be the final straw

Kelly has had enough of this, but insists that she is all right;

She is searching for houses to rent

we see that on the laptop she is looking at houses to rent.
