Hywel is brought a mug of tea

Gaynor brings Hywel a mug of tea,

"What's this?

which he looks at and demands, “What’s this?”

"Chamomile – it will do you good"

She replies that it is chamomile, which will do him good,

He does not appear convinced

but he does not seem to agree with that evaluation.

“Do you think we’d better make an appointment with the doctor?” she suggests, but he reminds her that the paramedic said there was no need.

"People don't have panic attacks for no reason"

“But people don’t have panic attacks for no reason,” she adds.

“I know – you keep reminding me,” he snarls, and then she raises the subject of therapy, as perhaps the accident has affected him more than they thought.

"It would be better if you stopped going on and on about it"

“It would affect me less if you stopped going on and on about it,” he answers,

She goes to sit down

so she gives up and sits down at the table.

"You can't stop me seeing them at all!"

Cai is on the phone to Nesta;  “You can’t stop me seeing them at all!” he rages, “Don’t you have an ounce of sympathy?   Listen, I’m sorry, OK?   I’m sorry for everything – I know I have faults, but I’m trying my best.”

Siôn arrives home

Siôn has just come in through the front door of Y Felin and is listening to this,

"Nesta, I can't carry on like this!"

as Cai begs, “Please, please – I’ll do anything.   Nesta, I can’t carry on like this!”

Then he realises that Siôn is there, and abruptly terminates the call.   Siôn is surprised to see him and asks how his course went.

"Pretty boring"

“Pretty boring,” is the reply, and Siôn wonders if he would like some breakfast – egg on toast with avocado.   “I might have something later,” says Cai, “I don’t have time.”

"How long has this been going on?"

Referring to catching him in the bathroom the other day, Siôn wants to know how long this has been going on;  he is told that it was a one-off and they do not need to discuss it.

"Is that why you're . . ?

“That was Nesta on the phone – is that why you’re . . ?”

"I don't want to talk about it, Siôn!"

Cai refuses to talk about it and Siôn is very worried.

"What is best for panic attacks?"

Gaynor has gone to the pharmacy for some advice about what is best for panic attacks.

"It's usually on by something psychological"

“To be honest, it’s usually brought on by something psychological,” says Maya, and Gaynor assumes that counselling is the best course.

Maya confirms that it is a good place to start;

"That's what I told him this morning"

“That’s what I told him this morning,” says Gaynor

"There are some pamphlets by the door"

and she is directed to some pamphlets on the subject by the door.

"I heard about Hywel"

As she is leaving, Ffion comes in and asks about Hywel;  “I heard about it,” but is told that she really does not want to know.

"I'm popping in to see Sioned later"

“I’m popping in to see Sioned later –how is she?” Ffion asks Maya, who thinks that she is getting better.

"Do you fancy the Deri tonight?"

“Do you fancy the Deri tonight?   One of the last nights before the new owners take over – and who knows what Kath and Cassie are planning?” says Ffion.

"No, I'm pretty tired"

Maya turns down the offer with the excuse that she is tired.  “If you change your mind, will you please come?”

Iolo also turns her down

Then Iolo is the next customer and Ffion asks him the same question, but he also declines.   “What’s wrong with people today?” she grumbles.

Maya imagines that Greta is not feeling well, but Iolo has something else on his mind;

"Someone's called Tyler a paedo again"

“Someone’s just called Tyler a paedo again.”

"Cup of tea in the back room?"

She thinks that a cup of tea in the back room would be a good idea.

Dani settles down with a magazine . . .

Dani is looking at a magazine

. . . then fetches the Maltesers

and then remembers the Maltesers which she put in a drawer.

She hears a sudden bang . . .

There is a sudden bang which alarms her and she finds that Mark is still in the house.

. . . and Mark dashes downstairs

He dashes downstairs, explaining that he is late for work;  “Give me a couple of those, will you?   I’m starving,” but she refuses,

"You should have bought another bag"

that this is her breakfast and he should have bought another bag.

He informs her that he did not buy them;  “Why would I buy you chocolates?

"A secret admirer"

“But I do know who they’re from – a secret admirer.”

He manages to snaffle a couple

He grabs a couple from the packet and leaves the house,

"Ooh – secret admirer"

while she thinks about this ‘secret admirer’.

Hywel makes a decent drink

Hywel is making himself a cup of coffee, to get rid of the taste of the chamomile tea.   Gaynor arrives back and advises him to make it a weak one;

"Talking is the best option"

“I’ve just been to the pharmacy – I’m afraid to tell you this because I don’t want to upset you – but Maya is of the opinion that talking is the best option.”

"I don't want to go over this again"

“Gaynor, I don’t want to go over this again, all right?” he states,

"I'm only trying to help"

but she maintains she is only trying to help, as she gets out leaflets with a list of local therapists, a lot of whom speak Welsh.

He glances at them . . .

After a cursory glance at them,

. . . then picks up the Western Post

e picks up the Western Post instead.

"Aled was still at school"

Over the cup of tea in the pharmacy, Iolo explains, “Aled was still at school, where Tyler taught.   It’s like I’ve, you know, buried all of this – put it to one side.”

"Sometimes we choose what we want to see"

Maya appreciates that sometimes we choose what we want to see;  “I love D, but she doesn’t always do the right thing.”

"I may be remembering Tyler in a different light"

Iolo thinks that he may be remembering Tyler in a different light.

"What was Garry's involvement with Tyler?"

“What was Tyler’s involvement with Garry?” Maya wants to find out, and is told that is another matter.

"Why did you ask that?"

Iolo wonders why she asked the question.

"Gwern had a gun last week"

Promise you won’t tell anyone?   Gwern had a gun last week and D got rid of it.   It wasn’t the right thing to do, but she was trying to protect him.”

"Was it Garry's?"

Iolo asks where he got the gun;  “Was it Garry’s?   It either was or it wasn’t.”

"I think it was Tyler's"

She does not want to upset him but she thinks that it was Tyler’s, which comes as a great shock to Iolo.

Mark is home for lunch

Mark comes in through the back door of number 7 with his loaded bag and tells Dani that it is lunchtime, so he came to grab a snack.

"Do you think Jinx and I suit each other?"

“Can I ask you something?” she begins, “Do you think Jinx and I suit each other?”

"It doesn't matter what I think, Dani"

He points out that it does not matter what he thinks, but whether she likes Jinx – that is what is important.

"I think perhaps I should be on my own"

“Yeah, well, I do, you know – I just think perhaps I should be on my own – you know, concentrate on the kids.”

Mark assures her that the kids are OK, and she does not know what is wrong with her;

"Perhaps he's too nice"

“I enjoyed his company – perhaps he’s too nice.   I haven’t stopped smiling, really.”

"I need the patience of a saint with you"

groans that he needs the patience of a saint to be around her.

"I'll stick it through Google Translate!

Siôn is speaking on the phone to one of his clients;  “I’ll stick it through Google Translate and then put my feet up for the rest of the day!

"By the end of the day tomorrow"

“No, seriously, you’ll have the work – without Google’s help – by the end of the day tomorrow.”

"Your jokes are getting worse, Dad"

Iolo tells him that his jokes are getting worse, and carefully arranges the salt and pepper on the table.   “The Pizza Place is open tonight, isn’t it?

"I'll treat us to pizzas tonight"

“I’ll treat us – what do you say?” asks Siôn, while Iolo is carefully placing his plate on the napkin.

"Then three of us could have dinner"

“Greta’s gone to stay with Ela, so the three of us could have dinner to welcome Cai home.

"Yeah, OK"

“If I order, are you willing to go and get it?”

"Iolo's doing well under the circumstances"

Then Siôn’s phone sounds and he answers, “Yes, Iolo’s doing very well under the circumstances – I’m pretty free towards the end of the week.”

Iolo grimaces at his father

Meanwhile Iolo is looking rather strangely at him.

Dani comes out of number 7 to see Jinx leaving the shop with a pint of milk;

"How did you know about the Maltesers?"

“How did you know that Maltesers are my favourite sweets?” she asks.   He replies that a little bird told him, and he thought that she deserved a treat.

"That little bird is trying get me out of the house"

“Well, that little bird is trying to get me out of the house every five minutes – perhaps I smell!” she tells him, but he does not think that is true.

“So, what about tonight?   Do you want a drink in the Deri after the shift?”

"I'd like that, Dani"

He seems quite taken aback and would like that;  they will see each other later.

Jinx looks admiringly at her retreating figure

Jinx looks happy at this turn of events.

Cai orders his food

has ordered something at the deli, but DJ does not look pleased to see him;  while he waits, Cai goes over to Gaynor, sitting at a table,

"Pastrami – my favourite"

eating pastrami, which is her favourite.   She invites him to join her,

"I've escaped from the house"

explaining, “I’ve escaped from the house, to be honest,” and asks him how school is going.

"Don't tell me that you miss it?"

Don’t tell me that you miss it?” he replies, “Have you ever considered being an education adviser?   There’s a shortage in the county.”

"I'd never be that desperate!"

Gaynor says that she would never be that desperate,

"You'd be able to see more of me"

but he stresses that she would be able to escape from the house more often – and see more of him.

They are being watched

Hywel happens to be passing at that moment and notices their little chat, which he finds disturbing, then he walks on.

"I was thinking about going to see Sioned"

Cai goes to the counter to collect his order, and comments that he is glad to hear Sioned has woken up;  “I was thinking about going to see her tonight.”

This is forbidden by DJ

DJ replies that he is going tonight and she has enough company.

"I'd still like to see her"

Cai insists that he would still like to see her.   DJ snarls, “Because you feel guilty, is it?

"If you hadn't pushed her so hard . . ."

“If you hadn’t pushed her so hard in the warm-up . . . oh, just forget it.”

Another knock for Cai

This does nothing to improve Cai’s mood.

"I know you're tired and want an early night . . ."

Delyth comes into the pharmacy;  “Listen – I know you’re tired and want an early night – and that you’re angry with me – and you’ve already turned down Ffion,

". . . but you have to come to the Deri with me – now!"

“but you have to come to the Deri with me – now!”

She will not explain, but simply tells Maya to come,

"I'd better lock up, then"

so she will go and lock up.

"I was supposed to go to the Deri with Jinx . . ."

Mark is outside number 7, holding three pizza boxes, which have been brought to him by Dani;  he tells her that he will keep her a slice.   “I was supposed to go to the Deri with Jinx after the shift,” she begins, and he says that is the best idea he has heard in 2023,

". . . but we've just had an enormous order"

“But we have just had an enormous order in, so we can’t go.”

"I wanted a word with you"

Iolo is waiting outside when she gets back to the Pizza Place and she tells him that his order is nearly ready.   However, what he wanted was a word with her,

"I'm really busy, Iolo"

but of course she is really busy, and suggests that they could have a cup of tea tomorrow.

He is now even more worried

Iolo is becoming more and more anxious.

"Here she is – the woman of the hour!"

In the Deri, champagne is being handed round when Maya and Delyth arrive, and Ffion announces, “Here she is – the woman of the hour!”   Maya is fêted as a hero, as she did not give up with Sioned.

"Anyone would have done the same"

She says that anyone would have done the same and is just glad that Sioned is OK.

Sioned is speaking from the hospital

An iPad is handed to her and on it she can see Sioned speaking to her from hospital.

"I don't know how I'll every thank you"

I don’t know how I’ll ever thank you – I’m getting there, slowly,” says Sioned, and Maya says that is like her with her Cymraig [Welsh].

"The nurses would be 'crac'"

“I’m gutted I can’t be there, but the nurses would be ‘crac[angry] – oh no, not that kind!”   Maya tells her to take care.

"It made me miss Cwmderi!"

Sioned admits to DJ that it made her miss Cwmderi, and he laughs that she has changed her tune.   “I’m sticking to what I said –

"Until it's safe for me"

“I don’t want to leave here until I know it’s safe for me to do so,” she stresses.

So Mark is handling this 'enormous order' single-handed?

Outside the Pizza Place, Mark is donning an apron to continue with the pizza production while Jinx and Dani are off to the Deri.   Kath is babysitting the children, and Mark insists that Dani deserves a break.

"The new Spiderman is on on Carmarthen"

“You know – we don’t have to go to the Deri,” she says, “The new Spiderman is on in Carmarthen, if you fancy it.”

"Exactly what I want to see!"

Jinx replies that it is exactly what he wants to see, which pleases her greatly.

Mark is pleased with himself

Mark is pleased to see that his plan has been successful.

Cai does not want to join them

Cai arrives back at Y Felin where Siôn and Iolo are eating pizza, but he not want to join them.   “It would be nice for the three of us to have a meal,” comments Siôn,

"That's what families do, isn't it?"

“That’s what families do, isn't it?”

"I don't remember signing up for a group session"

“You’ll have to excuse me – I don’t remember signing up for a group session,” Cai growls.

"I've been looking at why people harm themselves"

“I’ve been looking into the reasons why people harm themselves,: Siôn tells him, “You’ve been under tremendous pressure recently – Nesta moving on – Ffion coming back to the job – and what happened to Sioned.   You’ve got nothing to be ashamed of.   When did you last see the children?”

"Keep you nose out of my business . . ."

“Keep your nose out of my business –

". . . and keep your group therapy, all right?"

“and keep your group therapy, all right?” exclaims Cai and disappears upstairs.

"Cai's been self-harming?"

This has come as a shock to Iolo;  “Cai’s been self-harming?

"And you thought this was the way to sort it?"

“And you thought this was the way to sort it?   Why didn’t you tell me?

"Why doesn't anyone say anything until it's too late?"

“Why doesn’t anyone say anything until it’s too late?” he rages.

Hywel bottles up his anger

Hywel is looking angry when Gaynor returns to the house;

"Do you fancy cheese and biscuits?"

“Have you had dinner?   Do you fancy cheese and biscuits?” she asks.

"Where were you at lunchtime?"

e demands, “Where were you at lunchtime?”

"I went to the village"

She replies that she went to the village, as she told him.

"You didn't say you were meeting Cai"

“You didn’t say you were meeting Cai,” he goes on.   She explains that they just bumped into each other.

Hywel maintains that they seemed very cosy, so she says that they were talking about the demand for education advisers.   “So that was an excuse for flirting with him, was it?   Are you two seeing each other again, or what?”

"You can't treat me like dirt!"

Gaynor tells him not to be ridiculous;  “All I’ve done today is try to help you – you might be ill, but you can’t treat me like dirt!

"Do you know how difficult you are to live with?"

“Do you have any idea how difficult you are to live with at the moment?”

"Two sisters who won't stop talking!"

“No more difficult than living with two sisters who won’t stop talking!” he shouts,

"You've never liked Cheryl"

and she knew that he would bring Cheryl into this, as he has never liked her.

"I don't like the effect she has on you!"

“I don’t like the effect she has on you!” Hywel emphasises.

“What?   She supports me, builds up my confidence – but no, you don’t like that, because you want me down there like a dish cloth you can walk all over!

"I'm not sure this relationship is worth fighting for!"

“You know, I’m not sure this relationship is worth fighting for!”

"No, neither am I!"

He jumps up from his seat, raging, “No, neither am I!” and he storms off out of the front door, slamming it behind him.

"Cai is in a terrible state"

Ffion has a visitor at Cysgod y Glyn in the form of Siôn;  “I don’t know what to do,” he tells her, “Cai – I’m worried he’s in a terrible state.”   She wonders what has happened

"He refuses to talk"

and he continues, “I’ve tried to talk to him but he refuses to.”

She understands that it is difficult for him;  “It’s not easy for him, with his children being brought up by another bloke.

"He'll talk to you in his own time"

“Let him come and talk to you in his own time and he’ll be fine.   He’s not the first father to go through this and he won’t be the last.”

"I hope you're right"

Siôn hopes that she is right.

"Even though I knew what was coming"

After the film, Dani and Jinx return, discussing what happened and Jinx confesses that he jumped even though he knew what was coming.   “Have you seen it before?” she asks,

"Yeah – last night, with Mark"

and he admits that he saw it last night with Mark – it is a long story.

As she opens the door of number 7, he thanks her for tonight;

"Thanks for coming to see the film – again!"

“Well, thanks for coming to see the film – again!” she replies.

"The second time was better"

He warns her not to tell Mark that the second time was better and heads back to Cysgod y Glyn.

"I'm giving you this as a mate, OK?"

Maya is accompanied by Iolo as she returns to the pharmacy;  “Like I said on the phone, I’m giving you this as a mate, OK?”

Hywel is curious as to what is going on

Hywel is coming round the corner opposite Apêl Maenan and notices what is happening.

"It's Diazepam"

Maya comes out again with a packet in her hand;  “It’s Diazepam – it will calm you.

He wastes no time in taking a tablet

“Take one now and another tomorrow.”

Hywel is keeping watch

They do not notice the figure peering round the corner, as Maya demands that he must promise to keep it to himself;

Maya locks up again . . .

she locks up the pharmacy once again.

. . . and Hywel is still watching

Hywel appears puzzled.
