Jason's little treat is interrupted

Jason is about to bite into a chocolate eclair when Kelly rushes into APD;

"We need to view a house!"

“Whoa, whoa – do you know what?   We need to view a house!”

"I thought Miss Richards had cancelled"

He was under the impression that Miss Richards had cancelled this morning.

"I managed to work my magic"

“She did, but I managed to work my magic,” she enthusiastically tells him, then notices his lack of excitement,

"Chill with the enthusiasm, like, Jase!"

so continues, “All right, chill with the enthusiasm, like, Jase!   Yes, I’ve organised a viewing of our future love nest, in – oh – 45 minutes.”

"I can't just drop everything"

As he continues with his chocolate eclair, he warns her that he cannot just drop everything.

"It's rammed in here today, isn't it, Jase?"

She looks at the empty shop and comments sarcastically, “Do you know what?   It’s rammed in here today, isn’t it, Jase – and eating a chocolate eclair is so taxing.   Do you want me to be happy, or what?” she demands.

"I'll see you over there, Kelly"

He replies that of course he does, but he has a few things to do beforehand and will see her over there.

"I've got a good feeling about this, Jase"

“I’ve got a really good feeling about this,” Kelly tells him and kisses him

Off goes Kelly

before she leaves the shop.

This worries Jason

Jason, on the other hand, is looking rather concerned.

Hywel has a handy bottle of whisky . . .

There is a bottle of whisky on the table

. . . and is still in his dressing gown

as Hywel sits, still in his dressing gown, at Llwyncelyn.   He picks up his phone,

Then he puts down  the phone

looks at it and then puts it down again.   The door opens and Esther is back from school;

"You're back early, aren't you?"

“You’re back early, aren’t you?” he says, but she answers that this is the time she always gets home.

"They put me as goalkeeper!"

She is not in a good mood;  “They put me as goalkeeper instead of goal defence at netball.”

"Have you been on that sofa all day"

Then she asks her father, “Have you been on that sofa all day?” and he confirms that he has, because he is not feeling special, but he does feel better now that she is home.

"Can I still see Gaynor and Auntie Cheryl?"

“Dad, now that you and Gaynor have split up, can I still see her and Auntie Cheryl?”   Hywel confirms that she can see them at any time she wants,

"Shall we go to the park for some ice cream?"

and Esther is about to go upstairs when he tells her to go and get changed and they will go to the park for some ice cream.

"If you really want to, Dad"

“If you really want to,” she says, and he will phone to ask Iolo and Greta if they want to come as well.

Arwen is doing some cooking

At Cysgod y Glyn, Arwen is cooking the meal and informs her mother that it will be ready in five minutes.

Ffion clears the table . . .

Ffion will set the table and while doing so happens to notice Arwen’s phone which has been left on the counter.

. . . and has a look at Arwen's phone

She cannot resist having a look, and seems to be worried about what she finds there.

Unfortunately, Arwen comes back and catches her;  Ffion gives the excuse that the phone was making a funny noise,

"You're snooping!"

but is accused of snooping.   Ffion of course denies this;  “Why do you look guilty, then?” Arwen demands,

"You don't trust me!"

You don’t trust me!   I’ve said I won’t contact Dad any more.”

Arwen does not want to talk

Ffion had been thinking that guilt was driving all this effort and wants to talk properly to her daughter, but Arwen refuses, and goes to her room.

"Everything is a lot simpler at that age"

Out in the park, where Esther is pushing Greta on the swing, Hywel comments, “Everything is a lot simpler at that age.”

"Once Cheryl arrived, everything changed"

Iolo asks how he is coping without Gaynor, and he replies, “It just feels wrong, you know?   I blame myself – once Cheryl arrived, everything changed.

"I caused a rift with Gaynor"

“The way I behaved, I caused a rift between Gaynor and me – I don’t think there’s any way to stick it back together.

"I used to know where to turn . . ."

“I used to know where to turn, I knew what my future held, where I stood – and suddenly . . .”

"There's an emptiness"

Iolo finishes his sentence, “There’s an emptiness.”   Hywel apologises for going on and on about his situation, when Iolo has just lost Tyler.   Iolo advises him not to compare the situations, and asks if Esther is OK.

"Esther's worried about me"

“She’s worried about me – and that breaks my heart!” Hywel confesses.   Iolo appreciates that children notice everything.

Arwen has gone to MFC to calm down . . .

Arwen is in MFC

. . . when she sees a face at the window

when suddenly Gwern appears outside;

"Are you bored?"

he comes in and asks if she is bored.   “No, I just don’t want to do my homework,” she replies, “What’s the point?

"All the teachers hate me, anyway"

“All the teachers hate me, anyway.”

"I've won the lottery!"

Gwern informs her, “Yeah, well, I don’t need to worry about that stuff – because I’ve won the lottery!

"What are you on about?"

“I’m getting Mam’s house – it’s official, but don’t tell anyone.   I heard Cassie and Dani talking, but I pretended I hadn’t.”

"But you still need exams"

Arwen maintains that he still needs exams, but he insists that there is no point.   She suggests that he will be able to get a good job, but he is adamant, “I’m going to be a businessman and create a new app or something.”

“Everyone at school says that!” Arwen sneers, “What sort of app?”   He is not sure, but has the ambition to be a millionaire by the time he is 30.

"No – by the time I'm 20!"

“No, 20!” he tells her and she laughs at him, to which he replies, “You’re just jealous!”

Arwen returns to her drink

and walks out again.

"Do you still have panic attacks?"

Iolo asks Hywel, “Do you still have panic attacks?”

"Yes, sometimes"

and Hywel confesses that they sometimes happen;  he cannot stop his head spinning.

Iolo adds, “I don’t want to sound like a hypocrite, but have you thought about seeing a GP?”

Hywel cannot see any point in that, as he does not want to take tablets or anything;  “That was just a moment of weakness with Maya.”

"Maya send her thanks for the flowers"

Iolo conveys her thanks for the flowers which he sent to her.   “That’s the least I could do,” he answers.

"Can Esther come over for dinner?"

Greta comes to see them and asks, “Can Esther come over for dinner?”

"She might have dinner waiting for her at home"

Iolo says they will have to do that another time, because Esther might have dinner waiting for her at home.

"Next week?"

“Next week?” says Greta, and is told that they will do that.   She goes back to play with Esther on the swing.

"It's nice that they're friends again"

“It’s nice that they’re friends again, after what happened at school,” remarks Hywel and Iolo wants to apologise for what Greta said to Esther;

"Gwyneth caused that accident"

he is quite aware that Gwyneth caused the accident and it is important that Hywel understands that.

Ffion is asleep

Ffion is asleep on the sofa at Cysgod y Glyn;

"What was it?   Alien abduction?"

Kelly is pacing up and down outside the property in Cross Terrace, Llanarthur and speaking angrily to Jason on the phone.   “Well, what was it?   Alien abduction?   Kidnapped at gunpoint?   What?”

Jason is just approaching

She does not notice that Jason is walking towards her and continues, “Whatever it was, it won’t be good enough, do you hear?”

"Yes, I can hear you, Kelly"

Then she hears from across the road, “Yes, I can hear you, Kelly.”

"Are you sure you don't blame me at all?"

Hywel is still unconvinced;  “Are you sure you don’t blame me at all?” he asks,

"Do you blame me for staying the hotel with Gaynor?"

but Iolo wonders if Hywel blames him for staying at the hotel with Gaynor and sending Tyler on the bus.

"There's no room in my head for that"

“No matter what we think we could have done, it won’t change what happened – so, no, I don’t blame you.   To be honest, there’s no room in my head for that – getting up in the morning, trying to keep going, doing some work –

"This stupid urge to post stuff about Tyler"

“trying to control this stupid urge I’ve got to post stuff about Tyler on Instagram – it’s difficult!”

"Most people would try to blame someone"

“Many people would find it easier to try and blame someone,” Hywel appreciates, but is told that will not help anyone.

"I'd rather remember the good time we had that night"

Iolo and would rather remember the good time that he and Tyler had that night.

"You have to look at the positives"

“It’s not easy, but you have to look at the positives – for Esther and Greta.

"Enjoy the little things, minute by minute"

“Just enjoy the little things, minute by minute.”

"Before you start, we've lost the house!"

Kelly marches over to where Jason is approaching, angrily announcing, “And before you start, we’ve lost the house!   Miss Richards cancelled a dental appointment to fit us in, because we could move really fast.   And now she’s considering changing estate agents!

"Do you realise how awkward and embarrassing . . ."

“Do you realise how awkward and embarrassing . . .”

"I had to go and see someone"

Jason does indeed realise how awkward this was and is sorry;  “I’m late because I had to go and see someone.”

"OK, who?   The Pope?"

“OK, who?   The Pope?” she squeals,

"Craig, my sponsor"

and he reveals that it was Craig, the person he goes to when things get on top of him – his sponsor.   Kelly fears that he has started gambling again, but he strenuously denies this.

"I'm more in control than every before – thanks to you"

“If anything, I’m more in control than ever before, thanks to you.   Kelly, look – we don’t have any debts at the moment.   The bills are all in Mam’s or Dai’s names.”

"I'm concerned about getting one"

“If you’re worried about not getting a mortgage,” she begins, but what is concerning Jason is getting one.   She protests that he is not making any sense.

"I've never had a healthy relationship with money"

“Look, you know I’ve never had a healthy relationship with money – when I’m in debt I get stressed.   And it’s also – as you know – a massive trigger for me.”

Kelly understands now

Now Kelly can understand and sits down on the wall beside him, as he continues,

"I do stupid things – like gambling"

“And when I’m stressed, I can do some stupid things – like gambling – the thing is, Kelly, sometimes you win.   You can’t forget that – and you win big, and it’s easy.   If you’re up to you ears in debt and stressed . . .

"I should have discussed it with you"

“I’m sorry – I know I should have discussed it with you before now –

"I'm just trying to do the sensible thing"

“I’m just trying to do the sensible thing and avoid getting myself into trouble again.   I’m trying to be honest and discuss it with you.”

Kelly does not sat anything

Kelly remains silent.

"Mam?"

Arwen comes in, looking for her mother, looks in the bedroom;

Ffion awakens

then discovers Ffion just getting up from the sofa;

"Are you all right?"

“Are you all right?” and Ffion explains that she was asleep.

“I’m sorry for contacting Macs,” Arwen tells her, “I don’t want to cause you any more stress – I just didn’t think.

"I don't want you collapsing again"

“I don’t want you collapsing again.”

"I'm sorry, Mam"

She gives her mother a hug,

"It's all right, Arwen"

again saying how sorry she is.

A note left on the kettle

When they arrive home at Llwyncelyn, Jason finds a message on the kettle,

"Mam and Dai have gone to Cefn Sidan"

telling them that Dai and Diane have gone to Cefn Sidan [on the coast, south of Carmarthen] for a walk and a meal.

"Lucky them!"

“Lucky them!” grumbles Kelly.   Jason proposes to cook something nice tonight,

"I'm not bothered"

but she is not really bothered.

“Possibly open a bottle of wine – or three,” he goes on,

"Don't swap gambling for alcohol"

but she warns him that he does not want to swap a gambling addiction for an alcohol addiction.

This comment is not appreciated

He sits down opposite her

"Sorry, 'below the belt', Jase"

and she apologises that her comment was ‘below the belt’.

"I was just trying to do the right thing"

“I know you’re disappointed, Kelly – I’m just trying to do the right thing.   The last thing I want is to be in a position that will trigger me.”

"I'm really proud of you"

She understands that;  “And do you know what?   I’m impressed – really proud of you, because not many people could do it.”

"I've hurt a lot of people in the past"

He has hurt a lot of people in the past,

"Sara"

and she realises that he is referring particularly to Sara.

“I gambled our deposit away, remember?” he groans,

"But you're in a better place now, Jase"

but Kelly confirms that he is in a better place now.   “I don’t want to risk doing that to you,” he stresses, “To us – that’s all.”   She thanks him.

Arwen fears that she has caused her mother's problem

Up in Arwen’s bedroom, she explains to her mother, “But that time you passed out, I’d skipped school – and you had that attack on Saturday because of the stress with Macs.   I disappeared for the day – and you were so worried, you were in bed all day.”

"That's not what I'm having these attacks"

Ffion tells her that is enough;  “You’re going to make yourself ill.   Listen, I’ll always worry about you, but that’s not why I’m having these attacks.   I’ve seen the GP now and I’ve got an appointment coming up with a specialist.

"They'll find the answer – honest"

“They’ll test everything again and they’ll find the answer – honest.”

"How do you know that?"

Arwen is still anxious about her, but is assured that this is a medical problem, and nothing that she has done;  “Everything will be fine, so please,

"Please stop worrying about your mother"

“please stop worrying about your mother.   You might not be perfect, but I’m so proud of you – mind you, you could keep this room a bit tidier.   It would save me having to sort these dirty clothes.”

"You can't just come in here!"

This troubles Arwen;  “You can’t just come in here!

"Ill keep the room tidy, if you promise not to come in"

“I’ll keep the room tidy if you promise not to come in.”

"I hate to think what you're hiding"

Ffion agrees, but jokingly says she hates to think what her daughter is hiding.

Arwen takes out the box . . .

As soon as she has left the room, Arwen checks under the bed to find that the contents of the rather scruffy box are intact.

. . . and checks its contents . . .

She looks at the gun and then covers it up again,

. . . the breathes a sigh of relief

appearing very relieved that her mother has not found it.

"This isn't the end of the world"

As they sit at Llwyncelyn, Jason points out, “This isn’t the end of the world,” and Kelly is quite aware of that;  “We could always rent.”

"I've accepted you're not ready to buy a house"

“Yeah, I appreciate that, Jase, but I’m not paying rent so someone else can pay off their mortgage – no offence, like.   I’ve accepted that you’re not ready to buy a house.”

"And you're happy to stay here?"

He fears that she is just saying that, but she predicts that, “One day you will be ready – and I want us to be able to afford it.”

“And until we can afford it, you’re happy to stay here?” he enquires;

"We'll have to set different goals"

after a pause, she supposes that they will have to think about their future in a different way, and set different goals.

“Wow – now you actually do sound like Craig,” he remarks, “I am going to make you happy, Kelly, I promise,” and she answers that he already does.

"So where's this special meal and three bottles of wine?"

“So come on – so where’s this special meal and three bottles of wine?” she demands,

"Don't want to become alcoholics, do we?"

and he thinks that it may be advisable to stick to one bottle, as they do not want to become alcoholics.   They both confirm their love for each other.
