Dani is worried

Dani is sitting in the Deri flat, looking worried, as Tyler asks her, “Seren wants to know if she can go swimming tonight,” but Dani is adamant that she is not going to leave the flat.

"Seren's supposed to do the 100 metres tonight"

“She’s supposed to do that 100 metres tonight,” Tyler continues, “And Gwern has football – you can’t hide them in the flat for ever.”

"Watch me!"

“Watch me!” she growls.   He understands that she thinks something has happened to Dylan, but they do not know that for sure.   “So, what?   He’s just done a vanishing act, has he?” she demands, “Wilko was right about being paranoid and I didn’t listen.

"The police are on their way over"

“Anyway, I’ve phoned the police and they’re on their way over.”   Tyler will stay there in that case to support her.

"You're lucky they can see you so quickly"

As Mark walks along the street, looking grim, Brynmor comes out of the shop;  “I’m glad I’ve seen you – I wanted to wish you well today with the urologist.   You’re lucky they can see you so quickly.”

"Or unlucky"

Mark maintains that he is unlucky;  “What if I’m top of the list because something’s wrong?” he replies, “They didn’t say that, but . . .”

"Don't get ahead of yourself, Mark"

Brynmor warns him not to get ahead of himself,

He heads for his appointment

and he walks away.

"I don't want a band on my hair"

At Llwyncelyn, Gaynor is fussing over Esther’s hair, remarking that she will make another appointment.   Esther does not want a band on her hair, but Gaynor insists, “It will be easier if you’re playing tennis.”

Off they go to tennis

Hywel says that she is pretty enough as she is, and they both go off for their tennis session.

“We can work on your family tree when you get back, if you want,” Gaynor suggests,

"Do I have to?"

but Esther is far from keen,

Gaynor does not like this

and Gaynor is visibly aggrieved.

"So you don't know what's happened to him?"

PC Lesley Thomas has visited the Deri flat;  “So you don’t know where he is, or what’s happened to him?” says Dani.

"There's not evidence that it's suspicious"

The PC appreciates that she is worried, but there is no evidence to suggest that Mr Ellis’ disappearance is suspicious.   They will contact her if there is any news.

"What about me and the children?"

“What about me and the children?   What are we supposed to do?” Dani goes on, and Tyler explains that she is worried that they are in danger.

"We're making enquiries into Mr Ellis"

“We’re still making enquiries into Mr Ellis and keeping an open mind about where he could be – but there is no evidence to suggest you and the children are in danger.”

Tyler regards that as confirmation that they do not have to keep everyone in the flat,

"Keep an eye out"

and is simply advised, “Keep an eye out for anything suspicious and let us know if Mr Ellis gets in touch.   But in the meantime, I would advise you to . . .”

Dani is not reassured

Dani finishes the sentence for her, “Just carry on,” and it is agreed that there is nothing else she can do.   However there is no reason why they cannot carry on with their lives.   Dani does not look particularly reassured by this.

"No, not a word"

Outside Megan’s shop, Jinx asks if she has heard from Dylan;  she replies that she has not,

"It's early days yet"

but Jinx says that it is early days yet.   “I don’t understand it – Dylan, of all people, making people worry,” Megan sighs,

"I hope he's all right"

“I hope he’s all right – he didn’t say anything – and I thought we were friends.”

"He'll be back before you know it"

Jinx predicts that he will be back before she knows it, and if she needs anything, she should just get in touch.

"Just the two of us for lunch"

Hywel is back from tennis, and when Rhys visits, he is told that there are just the two of them for lunch.

"Do you want to see my family tree?"

Esther comes in, asking if he wants to see her family tree, and Rhys is eager to do so.

"Who's this?"

He points to one of the pictures, asking, “Who’s that?”

"You – stupid!"

and she answers with disgust that it is him.

"Gaynor wanted to keep things simple"

He comments that there are a few gaps, and Hywel says Gaynor wanted to keep things simple.

"She should put Sheryl on here – and her biological family"

“She should put Sheryl on here – and what about her biological family?” asks Rhys.

"There's not need to complicate things"

Rhys does not agree with that
Hywel argues that there was no need to complicate things, and that they have been getting on very well together recently – he did not want to upset Gaynor.

Rhys gives him a questioning look, and Hywel says, “You think we should put them all down, then?”

"And why leave Gabriel?"

“If he wanted space, why didn’t he tell me?   And why leave Gabriel?” Dani demands,

"It doesn't make any sense, man!"

“It doesn’t make any sense, man!”

"Have you heard anything?"

Then Gwyneth arrives in the flat, asking if Dani has heard anything.   “No – and the police don’t think there’s anything dodgy about it,” is the angry reply.

"I've come to pick Gwern up"

“Right, I’ve come to pick Gwern up – I’ll take him for chips before training.”

"That's not a good idea!"

Dani protests that it is not a good idea, and Gwyneth assumes that he is ill.   “I still think someone’s kidnapped Dylan and that we’re all in danger!”

"Nothing has happened to Dylan"

Gwyneth is very definite when she announces that nothing has happened to Dylan, and when Tyler shows surprise at this, she explains, “If it had, the police would know.   Nothing’s going to happen to you, either.”

"So he just dumped me?"

“So what are you trying to say?   Dylan’s just dumped me and turned his back on Gabriel, yeah?”   Tyler thinks that is what it sounds like, and is sorry.

"There's clean kit in his bag"

After a moment’s thought, Dani says, “There’s clean kit in his bag – tell Seren she can go swimming as well.”   She hopes that she has made the right decision.

Jinx approaches a rather imposing house and rings the doorbell;

"I'll do my best"

he is welcomed inside by Megan and says, “I’m not much of a handyman, but I’ll do my best.”

"Can you look for anything mentioning Gareth Wyn?"

“I’d like you to take a look at this, please,” Megan asks, handing him a laptop, “It belongs to Dylan – and can you look for any e-mail mentioning Gareth Wyn?”

Jinx was under the impression that she had lost touch with her son, but excitedly informs him, “Dylan thinks he’s found him!   He has contacts.”

"Perhaps we should take it to the police"

Jinx suspects there might also be clues on the laptop about where Dylan has gone;  perhaps they should take it to the police.   “If I take it to the police, there’s no telling when I would get it back, if at all,” she worries,

"I could miss any chance of contacting him"

“If that happened, well, perhaps I’d miss any chance of contacting Gareth Wyn for ever.”   Jinx will try his best, and Megan is very grateful.

Mark is back from the surgery

Mark walks away from the medical centre with a look of slight relief on his face;

"How did it go?"

Brynmor, who is waiting outside the Deri with a cup of coffee, asks how it went.

"It was a cancellation, thank heavens"

“It was a cancellation, thank heavens,” Mark answers,

"I told you not to get ahead of yourself"

and he is told that he should not have got ahead of himself.

"Even when he was sticking his finger up . . ."

“And the doctor was very nice as well, even when he was sticking his finger up . . .”

"How are you, Mark?"

At this point, Cassie comes out and asks how he is and whether he would like something to drink, which he refuses.

"Don't you want a pint?"

Brynmor is surprised that he does not want a pint,

"It's not over yet, is it?"

but Mark points out, “It’s not over yet, is it?   I have to wait for the results and then go for an MRI scan.”

“Well, at least today wasn’t as bad as you thought it would be,” says Brynmor.

Rhys tells Esther, “That’s Hywel – Dad – over there, and Gaynor – they love you a lot and look after you, don’t they?

"Your amazing big brother!"

“And then there’s me, your amazing big brother!”

Esther does not agree

She looks rather sceptical about this claim.

"There are some important people missing"

“But there are some important people missing from this tree.   You’ve heard us talk about your mother, Sheryl, haven’t you?   She brought you to Wales and she loved you, too.”

"Yes, Sheryl loved you a lot"

Hywel confirms that Sheryl did love her a lot, and Rhys goes on, “You have another family in Uganda – that’s where your biological mother lives – you grew in her belly!”

"We've talked about this before"

Hywel says that they have talked about this before, but Esther cannot remember that.   Rhys agrees that families can be complicated, “But you’re so lucky because you have all these people who love you.

"We'll Google the Uganda flag"

“I know, we’ll Google the Uganda flag, because it’s really cool.  Go and get the iPad.”

"A bit of pampering, a bit of fuss"

Cai is doing some cooking at Cysgod y Glyn when Jinx walks in, commenting that something smells nice;  he is told that it is carbonara.   “You have to, don’t you?   A bit of pampering, a bit of fuss –

"It goes down well with the ladies"

“it goes down well with the ladies.”

"I'm doing Megan a favour"

Meanwhile Jinx is looking at the laptop, and says that he is doing Megan a favour.   Cai naturally assumes that this is a new woman, and it is pointed out that it is Megan from the village.

"You like them old, do you?"

“Oh, you like them old, do you?” Cai demands.

“She hasn’t got anyone at the moment – not after Dylan scarpered,” says Jinx,

"The older ones have bigger bank accounts"

but in Cai’s experience, the older ones have the biggest bank accounts, and he congratulates Jinx on a good move.

“I don’t want to hear about your experiences with the elderly, thank you very much,” Jinx snarls.

Cai will not stop showing off, however;  “Look and learn tonight – good food, candle on the table, make her feel special,”

"Keep an eye on the Pancetta for me"

then he realises he has forgotten the Parmesan.   “Keep an eye on the Pancetta for me, there’s a good boy – I won’t be long – but it will be worth it!

"Ffion's always very grateful"

“Ffion’s always very grateful after I make some nice food for her!”

Jinx finds this talk most objectionable

Jinx looks revolted by the thought and returns to perusing the laptop.

"Mark was acting very oddly"

In the Deri, Cassie comments that Mark was behaving very oddly outside earlier;  “I hope he doesn’t think there’s something going on between us – he could barely look at me.”

"Can you keep a secret?"

“Can you keep a secret?” Brynmor asks (and it is blatantly obvious that he cannot).   “He’s having tests on his prostate and he’s very worried.”

"Poor Mark – cancer?"

“Oh, poor Mark – no-one wants to know that they might have cancer, do they?” she says, and this is heard by Ieuan Griffiths who is standing nearby.

Griffiths has been listening

“What’s this about Mark – does he have cancer?” he asks,

"I couldn't help overhearing"

“I couldn’t help overhearing.”   Cassie tells him what the problem is and that he is having tests.

"He doesn't want anyone to know!"

Brynmor pleads with them that Mark does not want anyone to know,

Mark rejoins them (from the toilet?)

but then Mark joins them at the bar.

"I didn't know about the delicate situation"

Griffiths immediately apologises, “Listen, I’m sorry – I didn’t know about the . . . delicate situation, you know, when I made the complaint to the Royal Mail.   We’re not going to let this complaint to come between us, are we – now that you’ve got something much worse to think about?”

"Thanks very much, Brynmor!"

Mark growls, “Thanks very much, Brynmor.

"Good grief – you can't pee in this village . . ."

“Good grief – you can’t pee in this village without people finding out!”

"My feet are killing me"

Ffion returns from a shopping trip, complaining that her feet are killing her, and is surprised that Jinx is there.

"Sorry to disappoint you"

“Sorry to disappoint you,” he says, and she thought that Cai was the chef tonight.   “He’s gone to the shop for some cheese for that concoction,” he tells her, and at that moment Cai returns.

"Parmesan, tick – beautiful woman, tick"

“Parmesan, tick – beautiful woman, tick,” he says,

It is enough to turn Jinx's stomach

and Jinx is disgusted by this performance.   Cai hopes that she is hungry, and asks if she bought something nice to wear.

"I got one or two tops"

Ffion has purchased one or two tops, and he comments, “Something slinky I can remove from you tonight, is it?”

He hopes that she is not too tired after shopping;

"You'll need you energy for the fourth course"

“You’ll need your energy for the fourth course after pudding.”

Jinx has had enough of this

This is the final straw for Jinx, who gets up, takes the laptop and leaves, saying that he is going for a pint.   Ffion insists that there is plenty of food, but he will not change his mind.

"We'd better behave ourselves when he's around . . ."

“We’d better behave ourselves when he’s around,” she suggests,

". . . this is his home, too"

“This is his home too, isn’t it?”

"He knows what he has to do"

“If he doesn’t like it, he knows what he has to do,” answers Cai.

Seren has her 100 metre certificate

Seren is back from swimming in a jubilant mood and shows her certificate, which Dani says is amazing;  she goes to put it up on the wall.   Then Dani turns to Gwern,

"What about my little Gareth Bale?"

“And what about my little Gareth Bale?   Go and have a shower please.”

"You go and see Greta"

She tells Tyler to go to Y Felin to see Greta and thanks him for putting her mind at rest.

Jinx has a message from Petra

Jinx has been exchanging messages with Petra, who comments, ‘You look like Gruff Rhys actually,’ [Welsh musician, composer, producer, film-maker and author] and as he is smiling at this,

"I know that smile – who is she?"

Cassie assumes that it is a girl.   “I know that smile – who is she?”

He replies that it is no-one who Cassie knows,

"I'm not really sure that I'm interested"

and he is not really sure that he is interested;  “There must be more to life than dates and nonsense like that.”

"If she can make you smile from the other end of the phone . . ."

Cassie maintains that if she can make him smile from the other end of the phone . . . He thinks that she may have a point there,

He replies to her message

and texts, ‘Fancy a date with Gruff Rhys soon?’

Gaynor is back from the gym

Gaynor returns to Llwyncelyn, with all her gym equipment and says that she had a great time.

"Esther is doing her homework"

Hywel reports that Esther is upstairs, doing her homework, then Gaynor sees the family tree on the table, with some additions.

"You've done this without me"

“You’ve done this without me,” she complains, and Hywel says that Rhys had a chat with Esther about Sheryl – and her family in Uganda.

"I thought we were not going to confuse her"

Gaynor was under the impression they had decided not to confuse her.

"It's important to teach her about her background"

“But it’s important that we teach her about her background, Hywel stresses, “We don’t want her thinking we’ve been dishonest with her –

"I thought you, of all people, would understand"

“I thought you, of all people, would understand that.”

“Of course I understand, Hywel,” she replies, “I was rejected by my biological family when I went looking for them, wasn’t I?

"I don't want the same thing to happen to her"

“I don’t want the same thing to happen to her – I want her to feel that she belongs to us, here – we’re her family now – and Wales is her home.

"I don't see the point"

“I just don’t see the point of discussing a family she’ll never know – and I would have liked to be part of the discussion!”   Hywel is sorry to have upset her.

Gwyneth appears lost in thought

Gwyneth is deep in thought when Cassie comes home to number 9, moaning about how tired she is;  “I don’t know if it’s me getting older, but these shifts feel longer.   What have you been up to?”

"Gwern scored a goal . . ."

Gwyneth replies that she took Gwern to football and he scored a goal;

". . . you'd think he'd won the cup!"

“I was so proud – you’d think he’d won the cup, the way he was celebrating!”

"And he was glad his Mam was watching"

Cassie is sure that he was glad his mother was watching, and is pleased that Dani let those children see daylight again.

"Was there any talk in the Deri about Dylan?"

Gwyneth is fishing for information again;  “Was there any talk in the Deri about where Dylan has gone?”

"I just hope he hasn't gone to London"

Cassie simply hopes that he has not gone to London to bother Tesni and Aled;  “They’re the only family he’s got left – and London’s far enough away from here, isn’t it?   And the place is big enough for him to start again.   You’ll have to excuse me – I need a soak in the bath before dinner.”

Gwyneth sends a text

This has put an idea in Gwyneth’s head;

'How are things in London?'

she sends a text to Tesni, ‘How are things in London?’
