"Thanks for helping out, Tyler" |
Dani thanks Tyler for helping out this morning in the Deri flat; she reports that Gwern is still not himself and is playing a game in his room.
“You haven’t been up all night doing this coursework, have you?” Tyler asks, and she admits that she has.
"I haven't had a chance to look at it" |
She has not had a chance to look at it because of everything, and she also had work to hand it in before today.
As she has just put bread into the toaster, she remembers that she has not given Seren her lunchbox; Tyler will take it to her now,
"You do realise this e-mail hasn't been sent?" |
but then notices something on the laptop. “You do realise this e-mail hasn’t been sent?” he says,
"I didn't press 'send'!" |
and she realises that she did not press ‘send’.
He informs her that this is because she is tired, and advises that she sends it this morning, telling them she had no Wi-Fi last night.
"I don't know why you put yourself through this stress" |
“I don’t know why you’re putting yourself through this stress,” but she insists that she is coping. “Dan, you’ll end up doing half a job if you’ve got too much on your plate,” he warns, “And remember I can’t help tomorrow morning – Dani, your toast is burning!”
"Aargh! The toast!" |
She rushes to turn off the toaster.
Tesni has run out of Colitis tablets |
At number 9, Tesni is looking at her box of tablets and finds that they have all been used.
Cassie finds her in pain |
Cassie comes in, having forgotten her phone, and finds her in obvious pain.
"I'm just having a flare-up" |
“I’m just having a flare-up, that’s all – I’m fine,” is the reply, which Cassie can clearly see is not the case.
"Mam would be so angry" |
“I forgot to register with a doctor in London,” Tesni explains, “Mam would be so angry. I’m such an idiot –
"She always told me to keep on top of things" |
“Mam always told me to make sure I stayed on top of things – prescriptions, check-ups.”
She is told not to be so hard on herself, as she has been through a lot recently;
"She would have nagged and nagged" |
“If Mam were here, she would have nagged and nagged, until I sorted things,” Tesni groans, and Cassie points out that is a mother’s job.
“So many things are going wrong,” Tesni sobs,
"You haven't been to the cemetery" |
and Cassie reminds her that she has not been to the cemetery, suggesting that she should go and talk to her mother.
"Get some more tablets – today!" |
“I don’t think that would make much difference,” Tesni answers and is instructed to phone the doctor and get more tablets, today.
What is in the box? |
As Cassie leaves again, we see that there is a large box sitting on one of the chairs;
Answer: flowers from Aled . . . |
Tesni opens it and takes out a large bunch of flowers,
. . . which make her smile |
smiling at the card which accompanies it.
Deri Fawr's roof is leaking |
Sioned is still in bed as DJ bustles in and tells her, “I’ve phoned Jason to tell him the roof’s leaking – he said he would come over as soon as he can. I think we will have to re-roof that entire part.”
Sioned is not feeling well |
Sioned says that she does not feel too special and was hoping to have a lie-in; she tells him not to worry about the roof, as they will sort something.
"We're throwing money away" |
He continues to moan, “Little things like this crop up here every minute – we’re throwing away money without knowing what we’re doing with it.”
"We can use the baby's savings" |
Sioned tells him to take some money from the baby’s savings for now,.
He is definitely worried, “About the baby and the future – things are so uncertain.”
"I want a peppermint tea" |
Sioned merely asks him to make her a peppermint tea.
“We have to talk properly about things,” he goes on, “I think we need to consider a few things, too,” but she does not want to discuss this now.
"We'll have lunch in the Deri later" |
“We’ll have lunch in the Deri later – we won’t be able to afford it soon – but it will give us time to talk,” he decides.
"Can you make me a peppermint tea?" |
She again asks for peppermint tea, as he goes downstairs.
"Is Mathew upstairs?" |
Tegwen and Ken arrive in the shop; she asks Rhys if Mathew is upstairs, and tells Ken to look at the magazines while she goes up to see Mathew.
"Mathew wants to change your Mam's mind about Lapland" |
Rhys tells Ken, “I hear that Mathew wants to change your mother’s mind about Lapland.”
"I thought we weren't going" |
Ken understood that they were not going, but is informed that Mathew and his Mam are friends now; “She won’t turn down a chance like that,” he confidently asserts.
"I just wanted to try once more" |
Upstairs, Mathew tells Tegwen, “I just wanted to try once more – Lapland,”
"We're not going – it would be weird!" |
but she reminds him that she has already said they are not going, as it would be too weird. He assures her that he is comfortable with their friendship and it is an amazing opportunity for her and Ken.
"You deserve an adventure" |
“You deserve an adventure!”
"I can't afford it, Math" |
She points out that she cannot afford it,
"We arranged that I would pay" |
but he insists that he is paying, just as they had arranged.
"Just leave it now, please!" |
“Look, I’m really grateful, but no, we are not going – so just leave it now, please!” she stresses.
Again Garry and Gwyneth are bickering |
As Dani continues to work, Garry and Gwyneth can be heard coming upstairs, and he suggests that she should stay away for a while. “I’m his mother!” she angrily replies. He agrees that she gave birth to him, but is also the reason why he is feeling like this.
"Come in, friends, to argue in my home!" |
Dani says, “Come in, friends, to argue in my home!” She advises Garry that Gwern has not come out of his room, and she does not think that he wants to see his father.
She goes to speak to Gwern |
Garry asks her to go fetch him.
"You're pathetic!" |
“You’re pathetic – blaming me for everything!” Garry snarls at Gwyneth, “You need to sort yourself out.”
"You left me in prison!" |
She wonders how Gwern will feel when he learns the truth – that Garry left her in prison.
"You wanted to kill Dylan!" |
“And how he will feel when he finds out you wanted to kill Dylan?” is Garry’s reply.
"He doesn't want to talk to you" |
Dani returns to confirm that Gwern does not want to talk to either of them. Gwyneth pleads that she just wants to make sure he is OK and talk to him, but Dani is adamant that as he is feeling low, she does not want to push him.
Gwyneth leave the flat |
Gwyneth glowers at Garry and walks out of the flat, but Garry decides that he is staying; “He doesn’t want to talk to you,” Dani reminds him,
"I'll stay for a while" |
but he wants to stay for a while, in case he comes out.
"If you want a cup of tea, help yourself" |
“Fine,” she says, “But I’ve got work to do, so if you want a cup of tea, help yourself.
"I can't believe she turned it down" |
In the Deri, as they have their lunch, Rhys cannot believe that Tegwen turned down the offer;
"I can't force her" |
“Well, it’s her choice,” is Mathew’s reply, “I can’t force her and her son to go to Lapland.”
"She's being so ungrateful" |
"You two on a date or something?" |
and at that point, DJ joins them, asking if they are on a date or something.
"Don't sound too excited about it" |
“I’m meeting Sioned now,” he groans, and Rhys warns him not to sound too excited about it. “I’m not excited,” DJ continues, and Rhys jokes that all this trying for a baby is wearing him out.
"I'm not sure whether it's a good idea" |
“I’m just not sure whether this is a good idea, that’s all. That’s what I’m going to talk to her about now.” In that case, Rhys decides that he definitely needs a pint.
Tesni goes to the cemetery . . . |
Tesni is at the cemetery, carrying the flowers and a vase in which to put them. She can see someone by her mother’s grave;
. . . where Gwyneth is looking at her mother's grave |
it is Gwyneth, who is staring fixedly at the small, simple cross. “What are you doing here?” asks Tesni, and Gwyneth gives the excuse that a friend of hers, Sheryl, is buried there, and she happened to see Jaclyn’s grave.
"It looks so bare" |
“It looks bare, doesn’t it?” says Tesni, “I’ve been so angry with her.”
"That doesn't help anyone" |
Gwyneth comments that being angry with someone who is dead does not help anyone; such feelings only affect the person who has them.
"She thought the world of you" |
“She thought the world of you – she would break her heart if she knew you were angry.
"I'm not going to let anyone poison my relationship with Gwern" |
“And that’s why, for as long as I live, I’m not going to let anyone’s poison affect my relationship with Gwern.
"I'll leave you now" |
“I’ll leave you now – you need some time here alone.”
Garry has purchased some food |
Garry returns to the Deri flat, carrying two bags; “He’ll come out when he smells these,” he predicts, but Dani informs him she has already taken a sandwich to him in his room. “Why didn’t you tell him to eat it out here?” and she explains that she has already told him she does not want to put pressure on Gwern, but admits that she is hungry.
"I'm doing a criminology course" |
As she clears the table she tells him that she is doing a criminology course at the University and he expresses surprise. “There’s no need to sound so shocked,” she says,
"You always wanted to study something like that" |
he recalls that she always wanted to study something like that at college.
“Yes, but I decided to wait until I was a single mother,
"With more issues than the Western Post" |
with more issues than the Western Post before starting,” she replies. He insists that she is doing it, that is what is important, and describes her as, ‘Super Mum’.
"I can't do it – I'm tired all the time" |
She, however, has come to another conclusion; “I can’t do it – I can’t catch up – I’m tired all the time. Tyler had to come over this morning and help me.”
"Everyone needs help with stuff like that" |
He replies that everyone needs help with stuff like that, and she continues, “I don’t even know if I understand this part of the course.”
"I don't know anything about criminology!" |
“Well, I don’t know anything about criminology to help you,” he alleges,
That amuses Dani |
which makes them both smile. She tells him that she got a scholarship, so it makes things easier, and he congratulates her.
"Will you be staying in Cwmderi?" |
She wonders what his plans are – whether he will be staying in Cwmderi. He would like to stay until Gwern is settled; “But don’t worry,
"In the flat above the chip shop" |
“I will be staying in the flat above the chip shop – mind you, the place is a bit of mess. And then, I’ll have to go back.” Dani shows signs of regret at hearing this.
“If you need help with anything, I can be here,” he offers,
He brings over the food |
as he fetches the food,
"Once Gwern is on track . . ." |
but she is sure that once Gwern is on track, everything will be easier.
"I've never seen you so nervous" |
In the Deri, DJ is still waiting for Sioned’s arrival and is becoming anxious; “I’ve never seen you so nervous,” Rhys smiles.
"You know how stubborn Sioned can be" |
DJ reminds him of how stubborn Sioned is when she has decided on something. He does not think it is the right time to try for a baby – they do not even have a bathroom at Deri Fawr – and there are a million and one other things to do.
"You told him we were going to Lapland" |
Tegwen appears and demands what Rhys said to Ken; “You told him we were going to Lapland. I had to tell him again that we’re not going! Don’t you think breaking his heart once is enough?”
"You're being ungrateful" |
Rhys considers that she is being a little bit ungrateful;
"Keep out of it!" |
she tells him, “You don’t know my situation or what what I’ve discussed with Mathew – so keep out of it!”
"I would never turn down a chance like that!" |
He protests that he would never turn down a chance like that,
"Perhaps you should go instead!" |
so she snarls, “Perhaps you should go instead!”
Tesni sits by her mother's grave |
Tesni sits by her mothers grave, and as she tidies up the fallen leaves,
"Sorry I haven't been here before" |
she says, “Sorry I haven’t been here before now – I didn’t think I’d be able to. I thought you’d like the flowers – Aled got them for me –
"Aled's the only one who remembered my birthday" |
“he’s the only one who remembered it’s my birthday. Guto and Dad said there’s something in the post from them. You always talked about going to Vegas when Guto and I were 21.”
"I'm here with no-one . . ." |
She dissolves into tears as she continues, “And I’m here – with no-one –
"No friends, no family" |
“nobody to celebrate with, no friends, no family.
"I love you, Mam!" |
“Mam – I miss you, Mam! I love you.”
"Aren't you working today?" |
In the Deri, Tegwen is doing her cleaning job and asks Rhys, “Aren’t you working today?” He says that he has a day off and complains there is nothing better to do around there than sitting in the Deri;
"Perhaps I shpould think about going to Lapland" |
he light-heartedly suggests that perhaps he should think about going to Lapland.
"Leave it, will you?" |
“Leave it, will you?” she growls.
"She might be keen to try again" |
DJ has come to the conclusion that Sioned is not going to turn up and must have forgotten. “She might be upstairs, waiting for you, keen to try again,” suggests Rhys.
"That's lovely!" |
Tegwen is interested to hear that they are trying for a baby, referring to it as ‘lovely’ but DJ does not think that it is lovely at all,
"Have I said something wrong?" |
and she fears that she has said something wrong. Rhys explains that DJ does not want children.
"I don't think now is the right time" |
“It’s not that,” DJ insists, “I just don’t think now is the right time – there’s loads to do at Deri Fawr – things that cost money and take up time – and what else costs money and takes up time?”
Rhys answers that with the one word, “Babies!”
"A baby would stop you sitting in the Deri all day" |
Tegwen remarks that a baby would stop him sitting in the Deri all day, but DJ protests that he has not been in the Deri for ages.
“She might take ages to fall pregnant,” Tegwen points out, and Rhys says that Deri Fawr will be like a palace by then.
"Sione must be ovulating!" |
DJ’s phone sounds, and Rhys imagines that it will be to inform him that Sioned is ovulating. Tegwen regards that as disgusting. DJ advises that she is on her way over, so orders Rhys to stop it.
Tesni now has more tablets |
Tesni has returned to the Deri and tells Cassie that she now has more tablets;
"Eifion turns up when he likes" |
“Are you busy? Do you think you could help me?” Cassie asks, “Eifion turns up when he likes. Some stock has arrived and I need to shift it – I need somebody behind the bar.
Tesni is not keen |
“It would do you the world of good to be behind the bar – it will take your mind off things.
"And you've done it before" |
“And you’ve done it before.”
"You will? That's great!" |
Tesni agrees, much to Cassie’s relief.
"He was fine with me up in Newcastle" |
Upstairs in the flat, Garry cannot understand it; “He was fine with me up in Newcastle – but now he doesn’t want to talk to me down here.”
"He's just confused" |
Dani says that he is just confused and trying to figure out his feelings – who he is angry with.
He suggests that perhaps she should do a psychology course,
"It's actually part of the course" |
and she explains, “It’s actually part of the course, anyway.”
"Sorry I've been hanging around" |
Now it is time for Garry to go, and he apologises for hanging around all day; she has not been able to do much work.
"I'm proud of you" |
“I’m proud of you, you know – the way you handled everything – don’t give up – it’s important you have something just for you,” he tells her, and as he leaves,
"Can I pop over later?" |
he asks if he can pop over later to check on Gwern.
Dani will text him, and thinks that the boy needs some fresh air, because his room must stink by now.
"You could meet in the park" |
“You could meet in the park or something,” she suggests.
Dani detects that there is still something there |
She appears to believe that there is still some ‘spark’ left.
Sioned is there at last |
Sioned suddenly arrives in the Deri, and DJ tells her that Rhys has just left; “Where have you been? I’m on my second packet of crisps,” he complains.
"I'm feeling better – thanks for asking!" |
“I’m feeling better – thanks for asking!” she admonishes him,
"No, we don't want anything" |
when Tesni asks if they want any food, Sioned overrules DJ, deciding that they do not.
"I have something to tell you" |
“I have something to tell you,” she earnestly begins,
"And I've got something to tell you as well" |
and he advises that he has something to tell her as well.
"I'm pregnant!" |
“I’m pregnant!” she announces,
DJ looks blankly at her |
and he is speechless with astonishment.
"We're going to have a baby!" |
“Did you hear me? We’re going to have a baby! It’s happening!” she continues, and he does not know what to say.
“Congratulations to us?” she prompts him,
DJ does manage something approaching a smile |
and he attempts to look pleased about the news.
