Cassie eats her breakfast 

Cassie is eating her breakfast when Gwyneth comes downstairs, looking suspicious 

"Where's Tesni?"

and asking where Tesni is;  “She’s gone for a walk,” Cassie replies, “I don’t know where – I didn’t ask.   She has a right to come and go as she likes.”

"She's come back to find Jaclyn's murderer"

Then Gwyneth reveals that Tesni told her last night that she has come back to find Jaclyn’s murderer, and Cassie is aghast.   

"She can't do that!"

“She can’t do that – whoever did it is extremely dangerous.”   

"I'm worried about what might happen"

Gwyneth says that she is worried about what might happen, and maintains that they have to persuade her to let the police, the experts, do their work.

"She's had too much time to think in London"

Cassie agrees wholeheartedly with this, and is sure that Tesni has had too much time to think in London.   “I’ve tried talking to her, but she won’t listen to me – she’s so determined – 

"She'll get hurt – or worse!"

“ I’m worried that she’ll get hurt – or worse!”

"Shall I talk to her?"

Cassie volunteers to talk to her, and Gwyneth is grateful for this.

Colin spots something

In the shop, Colin is stacking the shelves when he catches sight of a figure behaving furtively in the back of the shop;  

"Come out with your hands in the air!"

he goes to investigate, shouting, “Right, that’s it, come out!   Come out with your hands in the air!”

"Calm down, Colin"

then discovers that it is Britt, who tells him to calm down.

She is still looking for her phone, and asks if he has put it somewhere;  he denies that he has touched her phone, 

"Do you remember where you left it?"

and asks if she remembers where she left it.   

"If I did, I wouldn't be looking for it!"

“If I did, I wouldn’t be looking for it, would I?” is her angry response, 

"I'm lost without it, honestly"

“I’m lost without it, honestly – I haven’t seen anyone’s stories or statuses – perhaps I’ve had texts.”

He points out that it is not the end of the world and predicts that the phone is bound to turn up somewhere.   “I’ve got to work now, but I can’t last a whole day without my phone,” she whines.   

"If I find it, I'll phone you"

He stresses that she will have to, and if he does find it, he will phone her.  

"Bring it up to Penrhewl, will you?"

“On what?” she snarls, “If you find it, bring it up to me at Penrhewl, will you?” she asks him.

"Yes, I got it, Ken"

Tegwen is walking along the street, looking at a piece of paper and talking on the phone;  “Yes, I got it – it’s not too much – you’d better get going to school or you’ll miss the bus.   See you later.”

Tesni is heading somewhere

Tesni is walking towards her, 

Ken's rather long Christmas list

as we see that the paper contains Ken’s Christmas list.   

"You work here now, don't you?"

Tesni asks Rhys, who is just coming out of Tomos ac Ellis, “You work here now, don’t you?” and he assumes that she is looking for a house.

“No, I want to know who’s been to see number 10,” she answers, 

"They say a killer returns to the scene"

“They say a killer returns to the scene – can I have a list?”   He is unable to do this, explaining that it is ‘Data Protection’.   

"Perhaps the murderer has been back"

“Perhaps the murderer has been back, pretending to have a viewing, but checking they hadn’t left anything behind,” she continues, but he will not accede to her request.

"It's already been sold, Tes"

“The truth is, it has already been sold,” he tells her, 

"What kind of sicko would buy that house?"

and she cannot understand what kind of sicko would buy that house.   

"Me"

“Me,” he reveals, “It it was too good an opportunity.”

"My mother was killed in that house"

“My mother was killed in that house,” Tesni protests, “And all you’re worried about is money.”   He points out that if he had not bought it, someone else would have;  he is sorry about Jaclyn, 

"Leaving the house empty won't bring her back"

but leaving the house empty will not bring her back.   She is upset by this.

Tesni goes into the Deri

She goes into the Deri, where Gwyneth and Cassie are talking;  

"Rhys has bought number 10!"

“Rhys has bought number 10 – I can’t believe it!” gasps Tesni, and Cassie regards it as ‘typical Llywelyn’.

“You knew about it?   What’s wrong with everyone?   

"It's as if nothing's happened!"

“It’s as if nothing’s happened!” Tesni snarls.   

"No-one has forgotten your mother"

Cassie points out that no-one has forgotten her mother, but it does not feel like that to Tesni.

“And the police should be looking for the murderer,” she goes on; she is assured by Cassie that they know what they are doing, so she should not do anything stupid.

"We're worried about you, Tesni"

Both of them are worried about Tesni, 

"I know what I'm doing!"

but she is adamant that she knows what she is doing;  “No you don’t – you don’t know what you’re dealing with!” Cassie warns.

"I told you she was determined, didn't I?"

Tesni goes to the toilet, while Gwyneth remarks, “I told you she was determined, didn’t I?   I shall just have to try and talk to her again – because she can’t carry on with this ridiculous crusade!”

Rhys visits Llwyncelyn 

Rhys has gone to Llwyncelyn;  “I can’t stay long – I have to do a valuation on a semi in Llanarthur.   I’ve brought a treat for Esther from her big brother.”

"She's happy and content"

Hywel growls that Esther is happy and content, and instructs Rhys to leave them on the table, 

This picks up Esther's picture

where he sees the picture which Esther has drawn.   

"Gaynor and I were a little worried"

“Gaynor and I were a little worried, but it’s only a picture,” Hywel comments, but Rhys points out that Esther is pink on the picture.

Gaynor joins them

Hywel does not want to upset Gaynor, but it is too late and she comes into the room;  

"Did she hide the brown crayon?"

“Why – did she hide the brown crayon?” Rhys demands, “I can’t believe that you think this is OK!   It’s the same thing as the Ugandan flag – she has no idea who she is!”

"We never denied she came from Uganda"

Gaynor answers that they have never denied the fact that she comes from Uganda, 

"You've never discussed it openly"

but Rhys insists that they have never discussed it openly.   

"What makes you and Jinx such experts?"

Hywel is becoming exasperated;  “What makes you and Jinx such experts?” he wants to know, “You can’t tell us how to raise her.”

"I know what it's like to have you as a father!"

Rhys’ opinion differs;  “Yes, I can – because I know what it’s like to have you as a father!”   Then he turns to Gaynor, “You’re not much better – just ask Lois!   You never stop to think about what’s best, do you?   You’re as bad as each other!   

"If you think I'm letting this go . . ."

“And if you think I’m letting this go, you’re wrong.”   With that, Rhys walks out of the house, leaving Hywel looking very angry.

"You can understand why"

As they return along the street, Gwyneth apologises for telling Cassie, but is sure that Tesni can understand why she told her;  “We’re both worried about you.”   

"You won't stop me"

Tesni is determined that they will not stop her, and that she knows what she is doing.   

“You think you do – but you don’t,” Gwyneth warns, “You have no idea what you’re dealing with.”

Tesni imagines that it cannot be any worse than what she has already had to deal with.   

"I know who the murderer is!"

She is told, “It is worse – I don’t know how to tell you this – I know who the murderer is!”   They go into number 9.

"I think we've covered all the bases"

Kelly has been interviewing Iolo;  “Thanks, Iol, I think we’ve covered all the bases – the readers will know exactly what boiler maintenance is. You’ve been really thorough.”   

"What does Ifan want for Christmas?"

He will go and get them another coffee, but this time Kelly does not want to talk shop.

He asks what Ifan wants for Christmas, 

"No way is he getting one!"

and she sighs, “A puppy – a real one – and no way is he getting one!   I don’t have time to walk Rover around the block twice a day.   I don’t even like dogs, anyway.”

"Nor do I , after what happened to Eifion"

Iolo agrees that neither does he, after what happened to Eifion;  “He does struggle with it sometimes,” 

"He'll never trust dogs again"

and Kelly predicts that he will never trust dogs again.   “No – dogs aren’t the problem – the problem is the scum that train dogs,” Iolo explains, 

"And Eileen's not helping"

“And Eileen’s not helping by keeping him on, is she?”

"Perhaps she fancies him"

Kelly dismisses it as, “Cheap labour – or perhaps she fancies him.   Do you know what?   Actually I’ll take a rain check on the coffee – I need to write this up – 

"I can hardly bear the excitement!"

“I can hardly bear the excitement,” and they both leave the Deri.

As they leave, Tegwen comes in . . .

Tegwen comes in, telling Cassie that she does not want a drink, 

. . . looking for work

but is looking for work, and she has some experience of working in bars.   Cassie bitterly regrets that she is stuck with Eifion, but Tegwen pleads, “Aren’t there extra shifts over Christmas?   I’ll leave my number just in case.”

"There are only 24 hours in a day"

“You do realise that there are only 24 hours in a day?” Cassie enquires, “You clean somewhere, and you’re in Brynawelon.”   Tegwen explains that Ken has given her his Christmas list, 

"I don't want to disappoint Ken"

“and she does not want to disappoint him.

"I could do with someone to do the cleaning"

Softhearted Cassie tells her, “Having thought about it, I could do with someone to do the cleaning – can you start this weekend?”   Tegwen enthusiastically replies that she can start now, 

Tegwen is presented with the 'tools of the trade'

so she is handed the mop and bucket Cassie is carrying.

"Dylan would never kill his own sister"

“No, Dylan would never kill his own sister,” Tesni emphasises, “He’s a lot of things, but he thought the world of Mam.”   

"Jaclyn knew too much"

Gwyneth informs her that Jaclyn knew too much;  Tesni is not the only one who has had a lot of time to think, and invites her to put herself in Dylan’s shoes.

"Jaclyn was killed the same day he got out"

“He’d been rotting away in that cell, day after day, hours and hours of stewing.   When he got out he had only one thing on his mind – Jaclyn was killed the same day he got out.   That’s too much of a coincidence.”

"Dylan would have been a lot cleverer than that"

Tesni is sure that Dylan would have been a lot cleverer than that;  “And he loved Mam.”   

"He didn't try to do that"

Gwyneth reminds her that he shot Jaclyn, and that she was in hospital, fighting for her life, because of him.   “He didn’t try to do that,” Tesni protests.

"Then he did the job properly!"

“Then he did the job properly – why do you think he’s run away?   No-one disappears without a reason – he’s guilty!” Gwyneth insists.

"Why haven't you gone to the police?"

“If you’re so sure, why haven’t you gone to the police?” asks Tesni, 

"I don't have any evidence"

and the reply is that she does not have any evidence.   

"Exactly!"

“Exactly!” says Tesni, and Gwyneth realises that her argument has failed.

"You're late – again!"

Eifion comes into the Deri, and is informed, “You’re late – again!”   Tegwen has just been cleaning in the toilet and tells Cassie that she left the window open, as someone had a curry last night.

"What's she doing here?"

Eifion demands what she is doing there, 

"The cleaning, by the look of things"

and Cassie replies that by the look of her, she is doing the cleaning.   

"Her brother's dodgy!"

“You’ve given her a job in here?” he exclaims, “Her brother’s dodgy!”   This does not make any impression on Cassie, who points out that she is employing Tegwen, not her brother.

Eifion maintains that they are cut from the same cloth, and he is instructed to go to the cellar and bring back some mixers.   

"I'll be keeping an eye on you!"

As he goes, he snarls at Tegwen, “I’ll be keeping an eye on you!”

"And I'll be keeping an eye on you!"

Cassie warns him that she will be doing the same, “Keeping an eye on you!”

Tesni is still unconvinced

Tesni protests, “I know you’re convinced that Dylan killed Mam, but I don’t believe it – other people had reasons to take revenge against Mam.   Dani?   Mam had an affair with Garry.”   

"Dani would never do something like that"

Gwyneth vehemently denies that Dani would ever do something like that, so Tesni thinks that Garry  may be a suspect – or all the people who worked for Dylan.

"Who are you going to accuse next – me?"

Gwyneth maintains that she is going round in circles now;  “Who are you going to accuse next?   Cassie?   Me?   You just don’t want to accept it was Dylan.   Look at at how he behaved at the funeral.”

"Perhaps that's how he grieves"

Tesni answers, “Perhaps that’s the way that he grieves,”

"That's guilt, not grief!"

 but Gwyneth rages that it was guilt, not grief, and that he was acting odd before that.

“He was worried someone was coming after his family!” shouts Tesni, and is told that he was worried about being caught.   

"I could hear you in the street!"

Cassie walks in, midway through this altercation, and informs then they could be heard in the street.

"She says Dylan killed Mam!"

“Gwyneth’s trying to say that Dylan killed Mam – she’s wrong!” tells Tesni, 

"Whatever Jaclyn did . . ."

and Gwyneth hisses that whatever Jaclyn did, she was Tesni’s mother, 

". . . she was killed by your own uncle!"

and she will never get her mother back because of him, her own uncle.   

"You went too far there, Gwyneth"

Cassie considers that Gwyneth is going too far there.

"Lovely cup of tea!"

Colin is enjoying a lovely cup of tea at number 21 when Britt rushes in to tell him she has remembered where she left her phone; 

"The pocket of the blue hoodie"

“The pocket of the blue hoodie!   I’ve only got one – I’ll go upstairs to get it.”

"It's not upstairs, Britt"

He rather awkwardly points out that it is not upstairs 

He has been doing some laundry

and opens the washing machine;  when he takes out the wet hoodie in question, 

"I was trying to help"

the phone falls from its pocket.

"You didn't want me to put it on the fridge?"

At Llwyncelyn, Gaynor notices that the picture has disappeared, and is told that it is in the recycling;  “You didn’t want me to put it up on the fridge, did you?” Hywel asks.   

"Where do we go from here?"

She wonders where they are going to go from there, 

"We carry on as we are"

and he suggests they carry on as they are.

“But we don’t know what we’re doing, Hywel,” she moans, and he says that applies to every other parent.   “Sorry, but this is different,” she goes on.

"Everyone thinks they know better"

“Yes, it is, because everyone thinks they know better – if Jinx and Rhys are so worried about Esther, they should leave us alone to carry on as a family.   I don’t want to hear any more about it.”

"What's that smell, Col?"

As Britt relaxes, she asks Colin, “What’s that smell?”   

"I'm boiling some rice"

He says that he is boiling some rice, but she thought they were having a sandwich.

"If you get water in it, put it in rice"

He enlightens her that it is for her phone;  “That’s what they say, isn’t it?   If you get some water in it, put it in some rice.”   

Britt giggles, and points out to him that means dry rice, 

Surely not even poor old Colin can be that thick

and he comes to the conclusion that probably makes more sense.

“It doesn’t matter anyway – I don’t want a phone any more,” she advises, in a very abrupt change of mind, 

"I was getting obsessed with that phone"

“I was getting obsessed with it – there was no sense in it.”

He is horrified, maintaining that you cannot live without a phone;  “I mean, what if something happened to me?   

"What if I get knocked over by a bus?" — Very unlikely in Cwmderi

“What if I get knocked over by a bus or something?”   

"I'd find out when I got home"

She calmly replies that she will find out when she gets home, 

"How will you get up in the morning?"

so he wonders how she will get up in the morning without an alarm.

“I shall buy a clock – and a camera and a map and everything else I need if I have to,” she says, but he does not regard that as realistic these days.   

It appears that Britt's medication needs adjusting

She naïvely suggests that she is free – completely free.

Tesni reappears

When Tesni comes back downstairs, Gwyneth apologises for what she said, 

"When Dylan's in a corner, he's dangerous"

but insists, “You have to listen to me now – when Dylan’s in a corner, he’s dangerous.”   

'he showed me a Post-it note from her body"

Tesni is still convinced that Dylan did not do it;  “He showed me a Post-it note from Mam’s body – the murderer left a message on it.   

"Why would he take it if he'd killed her?"

“Why would he take it if he’d killed her?”

"I don't know why Dylan does anything"

Gwyneth replies that she does not know why Dylan does anything;  “But if he can do that to his own sister, he could do it to you as well.”

"You have to let the police do their work"

Cassie backs her up;  “Gwyneth’s right – you have to let the police do their work.”   

Gwyneth begs her to promise that she will let it go, and Tesni, rather half-heartedly, agrees she will let it go, 

"I want you to find him for me"

but wants Gwyneth to find him for her.

"And it doesn't matter if he comes after me?"

“And it doesn’t matter if he comes after me, does it?” asks Gwyneth, but Tesni did not mean her personally, but she must know someone who can help.

"What if he doesn't want to get caught?"

Cassie wonders what if he does not want to get caught, but Gwyneth agrees that she will do everything she can to find him.   

"But don't tell anyone"

“Don’t tell anyone, because we don’t want Dylan to know we’re coming after him,” she warns.

Is this bringing on another bout of Colitis?

Tesni goes into the kitchen, as Gwyneth tells Cassie that is is an extremely dangerous situation, 

"Unlike Tesni, I know what I'm doing"

but, unlike Tesni, she knows what she is doing.
