"I'm ready to go!" |
Mathew passes the shop he is informed by Rhys, “You’ll be glad to hear I’ve bought the snow boots – I’m ready to go!” Mathew looks blankly at him, so he continues, “The lads’ trip to Lapland!”
"You don't really want to see Santa?" |
“You’re not serious – just the two of us?” Mathew demands, and is told that just because Tegwen does not want to go, he should not miss out. “You really want to go to Lapland to see Santa? It’s a bit weird.”
"I'm going to have a laugh!" |
“You can go and see Santa – I’m going to have a laugh!” Rhys insists, “There’s loads to do out there – the Aurora Borealis, mini ski-doos, snowshoe safari. Imagine it – you and me sitting on the ice, sipping mulled wine –
"And a couple of ladies – how does that sound?" |
“a couple of ladies – how does that sound?”
"No, I'm not going!" |
Mathew is still adamant that he is not going to Lapland with Rhys, and is told that he does not have to decide now, but should have a good think about it. “I promise we’ll have a laugh,”
Rhys snatches his biscuit |
then Rhys grabs the biscuit which Mathew was eating, and walks away along the street.
"How are you, Tegwen?" |
Tegwen is approaching, and Mathew asks how she is; “Totally stressed!” is the answer,

“The rugby match tonight – people keep pulling out. If anyone else does, I’ll be up the creek without a blinking paddle.”
"I'm sure everything will be all right" |
Mathew is sure that everything will be all right, and she grumbles, “It had better be – I’ve spent too long on this team to see it fall apart at the last minute.”
"When exactly will I meet the midwife?" |
At Deri Fawr, Sioned is on the phone, asking, “So when exactly will I meet the midwife?” After the call she puts the phone down as DJ comes into the room, and tells him that she has been doing some sums.
"A summer baby – what about that?" |
“If I’m right, the baby will be here mid-July – a summer baby – what about that?
DJ seems to be much more enthusiastic than he was, and she announces that she has to go to the village to get some vitamins;
"We have loads downstairs" |
he protests that they have loads of them downstairs.
"They're especially for the baby" |
“They’re specially for the baby,” is her retort, but he is concerned about the cost. “And I need to fill the vending machines as well – I said we’d make our money back quickly. I think I’ll be done by midday –
"I'm eating for two these days" |
“do you want to try the Deri again for lunch? I’m eating for two these days.”

Tegwen complains to Cassie |
Tegwen takes up the matter with Cassie;
"I thought you said you had enough staff" |

"She was here when I needed help" |
“Yes, I know, but Tesni was here when I needed help,”says Cassie,
"When something comes up, you'll be the first to know" |

Gaynor walks glumly past Tomos ac Ellis just as Rhys comes out;
"Oh – not him!" |

"You've given us a lot to think about" |
She says that Rhys has given them a lot to think about,
"So you're going to act is if there's nothing wrong?" |
and he assumes, “So you’re going to act as if there’s nothing wrong?”
"It's a complex situation" |
She argues that it is very complex situation, and he points out that is why it has to be tackled now.
When she insists that it is not that simple,

"Anita's responsible for marketing" |
Tyler points out that Anita is responsible for marketing, and he does not want to step on her toes.
"Leave Anita to me" |
“Leave Anita to me, all right – it’s not much work, just uploading videos, liking comments – and when it comes to discussing bonuses – I’ll remember all the work you’ve done.”
"Yeah, go on, then" |
Tyler is persuaded, and Mathew will send him all the login details. Then his phone rings again with another enquiry;
"Of course we can do that" |
“Of course we can do that,” he says.
"Have you been over to see Mark?" |
In the bookshop, Iolo asks his father if he has been over to see Mark;
"I'm going over today" |
“I’m going over there today,” is the reply, and Iolo wonders why he has not been over before. “I’ve sent him a text,” says Siôn.
Iolo is not impressed; “What – sorry for knocking you over, Mark?” and Siôn confesses that he could not face Mark.
"Don't you think he deserves an apology?" |
“Don’t you think he deserves an apology after what you did? Make sure you go over there!”
"That's enough – there's a customer in the shop!" |
Siôn urges him to stop, as there is a customer in the shop, in the form of Gaynor.
"Looking for anything in particular?" |
He goes over and asks if she is looking for anything in particular and whether he can help.
She does not seem to know |
She admits that she is not sure what she is looking for;
"Family psychology?" |

DJ comes in, looking for Sioned, but she is not there and he wonders where she has gone.
. . . and he is told the reason for this |
His phone sounds and he receives a text message from her, ‘Something doesn’t feel right – I’ve gone home.’ He quickly shuts the door behind him and leaves for Deri Fawr.
"I'm happy to chat about something else" |
“Listen, if you don’t want to talk about it, I’m happy to have a cup of tea and chat about something else,” Siôn tells Gaynor.

She thinks that it is important that she should talk about the problem.
“It’s about Esther – I’m just worried that I haven’t always done what’s best for her.”
"We try our best as parents" |
Siôn appreciates that they always try their best as parents, and she continues, “I don’t think I’ve ever considered the true implications of raising a mixed-race child – not really.
"Jinx accused me of being racist" |
“Jinx accused me of being racist – and Rhys agrees. I didn’t think I was racist.”
Siôn suggests that all they can do is try to educate themselves, and Gaynor is persuaded that she has not done enough of that.
"You're here now – facing it" |
“You’re here now, aren’t you? You’re facing it,” he stresses,
"I'm not sure that I want to" |
but she is not sure that she wants to do that.
“I don’t want to find out what a mess we’ve made of things,” she goes on
"Esther is happy, isn't she?" |
and Siôn points out that Esther is happy;
"I should have done more, Siôn" |

DJ has raced home to Deri Fawr and shouts for Sioned; she is in the bedroom

and he is very anxious whether she is all right. “I just felt odd, that’s all – and I thought it was the baby,” she says,
"It was just a bit of sickness" |
“It was just a bit of sickness and I needed a lie down.”
"Are you sure I shouldn't call the doctor?" |
She insists that it is not necessary to call the doctor, and is drinking another cup of peppermint tea.

"I can't run up and down stairs every two minutes" |
He makes it clear that he cannot run up and down the stairs every two minutes because he has work to do.
Sioned is sure that she will be back on her feet tomorrow; she knows that he is worried about money and the house, but she will help as much as she can. “We’ll sort things out together.”
"This baby business is a lot to take in" |
He can see that this baby business is a lot to take in;
“Just imagine how I feel,” she replies.
"Sioned and to pull out of the game" |
In the Deri, as Mathew is returning from the toilet, he bumps into Tegwen and she complains that Sioned has had to pull out of tonight’s game;
"I said this would happen" |
“There isn’t anyone else – we shall have to forfeit the game – I said this would happen.”
Mathew says that there must be someone who could help; “Not unless you want to wear a wig or a sports bra!” she snarls,
"I'll play!" |
and Tesni, behind the bar, offers to play.
"I didn't think you were the type" |
“I didn’t think you were the type to play rugby – it can be rough,” Tegwen reminds her.
"I know how to play rough" |
Tesni maintains that she knows how to play rough; “Come on – put me on the team,” and she calls upon Mathew to support her. He comments that he cannot see anyone else volunteering,
"Be at the club by six" |
so Tegwen is forced to agree, telling Tesni to be at the club by six.
"Remind me of the rules again" |
“Remind me of the rules again,” she asks Mathew, then reveals that she was only joking.
A box has been delivered for Sioned |
DJ brings a box upstairs to Sioned, and she was not expecting it to arrive so quickly; he suspects that it may be more vitamins, but she announces that it is something for the baby.
A little purple shirt for 'Babi' |
It is a rugby shirt with the word ‘Babi’ on the front, and she also has one for DJ, bearing the word, ‘Dadi’.
"Do you know how lucky this baby will be?" |
“Do you know how lucky this baby will be to have you as a father?” she tells him, “And if we have a boy, he’ll be the spitting image of you.”
DJ had been hoping that he would get his good looks from her side of the family.
"If she's anything like you, God help us!" |
“If we have a girl and she’s anything like you – God help us!” he adds, “Everything will be all right, won’t it?”

Greta listens attentively to the story |
Next door at number 7, Iolo is just finishing reading the last few words of a story to Greta, “Until a snowflake fell on her nose.” Tyler says that she is welcome to stay there tonight if he wants, so Iolo wishes her good night.
"Are you sure Greta would want something like that?" |
“Before you go, I’ve been thinking about that play house – are you sure Greta would want something like that?” asks Tyler.
"I hope so – I've already bought it!" |
Iolo sincerely hopes that she will, as he has already bought it and wants to make sure it arrives by Christmas.
"I thought we were going halves" |
“I just thought we were going halves,” explains Tyler, and he is told to transfer the money when he gets a chance.
"Ta-ta!" |
Greta says, “Ta-ta,” to Iolo as he leaves the house, upon which Tyler checks his bank balance on his phone;

Siôn expresses how sorry he is for what happened, and also for not coming over sooner, as he felt so ashamed.
“Your sorries aren’t worth anything –
"Mark could sue you for compensation!" |
“Mark could sue you for compensation – if the court knew the facts, you’d go straight to jail!” she rather extravagantly claims, and Mark tells her to stop.
"I thought I'd bring a few things" |
“I know it doesn’t make up for it, but I thought I’d bring a few things to say how sorry I am,” Siôn continues, presenting Mark with a box.
Kath is very inquisitive as to its contents,
"What's Mark supposed to do with books?" |
and when she finds out, sneers, “Books? What’s Mark supposed to do with books?” Siôn hopes that they will kill some time while he recovers; he did not know what sort of books Mark liked, so he brought a selection.
"After all, it was an accident" |
He is thanked by Mark, who once again points out that it was an accident,
Siôn leaves quite rapidly |

Kath has other ideas; “You need to go and see the doctor again, so he can check your head, because you’re going soft.”

He looks at the comments from earlier . . . |
