"It wasn't my fault – I wanted to play" |
Next morning, as Tegwen is again cleaning, Tesni protests, “Why are you in a mood? It wasn’t my fault – I wanted to play.” Tegwen complains once again that they had to forfeit the game, and Tesni stresses she was ill.
"You let me and the team down!" |
“You let me and the team down!” rages Tegwen, as Cassie approaches and is angry that they are still arguing.
"You're here to work, not to argue" |
She does not care who started it but points out that they are here to work, not to argue.
“If I hear another word, it’s coming out of your wages –
"Is Eifion here?" |
“is Eifion here?” she continues, and Tesni has not seen him this morning. “What’s wrong with people?” Cassie demands, and picks up her phone.
"Garry . . ." |
“Garry,” she says, and Tegwen immediately takes notice, “Eifion’s late again, so . . .”
Tegwen is listening |
She notices that both of them have stopped to listen, so instructs them to get back to work.
"Slow down, Ffion" |
At Cysgod y Glyn, Ffion is in a hurry to get to school and is told to slow down by Jinx;
"You don't have inspectors coming" |
“You don’t have inspectors coming at the end of the month,” she reminds him.
"If everyone has done their job properly . . ." |
He says that if everyone has done their job properly, there is no need to worry.
“The school is under inspection, not just the teachers –
"Can you be here later for Arwen?" |
“if you want to help, can you be here later for Arwen?” she asks, but he says he cannot tonight,
"I was hoping to cook a meal for Petra" |
as he has a date and was hoping to cook a meal for Petra in the flat.
"I'm sure Arwen will stay out of your way" — Yeah, right! |
Although she is very disappointed, Ffion suggests, “You can invite Petra over and keep an eye on Arwen. I’m sure she’ll stay out of the way and I won’t be back until late.”
Jinx is not happy |
Then Ffion leaves the flat, hoping that he enjoys himself tonight.
"Where's my notepad?" |
At Bryntirion, Kelly is looking for something; “Notepad – I’m going to Penrhewl today,” she tells Jason, who thought that she had already been there.
"I just want to make some further investi . . ." |
“I just want to make some further investi . . . interviews,” she tells him.
"Penrhewl's Christmas preparations?" |
“So let me get this straight – you’re writing an article on Penrhewl’s Christmas preparations. If you’re like this now, what will you be like when you find the big scoop you’ve been looking for?” Jason demands.
"I just want to do a good job, Jase" |
She maintains that she just wants to do a good job.
“Whatever you’re doing, can you do me a favour, please?” he continues,
Jason begs her to be careful |
“Will you promise to be careful? Love you!”
"Is Cassie around?" |
Eifion comes creeping into the Deri, and asks Tesni, “Is Cassie around?”
"No, but I'm here!" |
Then he hears a voice behind him which says, “No, but I’m here! Is there something wrong with your watch?”
"There was a problem" |
Eifion gives the excuse that there was a problem; “You’ve always got a problem, haven’t you?” Garry growls,
"I'm paying you too be here on time" |
“I’m paying you to be here on time.”
"I'll come in early tomorrow" |
Eifion promises that he will come in early tomorrow,
"No you won't – I'm sacking you!" |
but is informed, “No you won’t – you don’t work here any more – I’m sacking you!”
"What will Britt say?" |
“What will Britt say when she finds out?” Eifion asks, and it is pointed out to him that Garry is in charge. “I save your sister and this is the thanks I get?” Eifion moans.
"You've been pushing your luck for too long" |
“I’m very grateful, but according to Cassie, you’ve been pushing your luck for too long,” Garry remarks,
"Well, stuff your job, then!" |
and is emphatically told that he can stuff his job.
"Close the door on your way out" |
“Close the door on your way out,” Garry tells him.
The girls are listening |
The two girls look at each other.
Tyler is on his phone again |
At APD the van is being loaded for a job when Tyler receives a text on his phone; “You’re on the phone again?
"We done't have time to play on our phones" |
“We’ve got work to do!” Jason tells him, “Put it away, please – we don’t have time to play on our phones today.”
Then Jason’s own phone sounds,
"This will be important" |
and he predicts that it will be important; “Ifan’s ill – I have to go and pick him up,” he says,
"Will you be all right on your own?" |
“Will you be all right here on your own for a while? I’ll try not to be too long.”
Tyler sets up his phone . . . |
Now that he is alone in the shop, Tyler has an idea; he puts his phone on a suitable shelf
. . . and starts stripping |
and begins to perform a striptease in front of it, but at that moment Britt passes,
"Working you too hard, is he?" |
and assumes that Tyler is being worked too hard so that he is overheated.
"I don't want to be late" |
She hurries away, not wanting to be late, and Tyler looks very annoyed.
"I do know how to use a washing machine" |
At Penrhewl, Howard brings a bag of washing and insists that he knows how to use a washing machine. Eileen replies, “You’ve been very good here – it’s the least I can do – and don’t forget your sandwiches.”
Kelly wants to talk to Howard |
Then Kelly comes in, wanting a word with Howard, but Eileen replies that he is busy all day, and he quickly disappears out of the door.
"You can ask Britt" |
She adds, “But Britt’s here, and you can ask her any question you like about the place, all right? I’ll go and get her.”
"Oh, great!" |
Kelly is understandably disgruntled.
"It would have been nice if you told me" |
Cassie does not appear to be very happy with Garry’s actions; “It would have been nice if you’d told me.” He cannot see what is her problem,
"You said you wanted to get rid of him" |
as she said she wanted to get rid of him. “But why now? Christmas is around the corner,
"You know how busy it gets here" |
“and you know how busy it gets here. I need someone behind the bar.”
"He was getting on my nerves" |
“He was getting on my nerves – and this place runs itself anyway, doesn’t it?” he answers.
Cassie reels off all her tasks |
She asks who checks the stock, orders the stock, cleans the toilets, serves the food and drink, changes the barrels – and is nice to customers? Fairies?”
Garry agrees to sort it out within a couple of days, but Cassie complains, “I need someone now, not in a couple of days.”
Tegwen is hovering nearby |
Tegwen, in the process of her cleaning, has come closer to them
"I'm available to word behind the bar" |
and suggests that she is available to work behind the bar if someone is needed.
"Cassie said if a job came up . . ." |
Garry wonders who she is and is told that she is Tegwen; “I’ve got bar experience and Cassie said if a job came up . . .” she offers,
"There we are – problem solved" |
which Garry regards as a solution to the problem; he would like some peace and quiet now. Cassie does not like being overruled.
Nicky has had a mishap . . . |
Nicky is attempting, not very successfully, to repair one of Brynmor’s vases which he has broken;
. . . which Brynmor is not happy about |
of course Brynmor is angry when he finds out,
"I'm really sorry" |
but Nicky says, “I’m really sorry.”
"I've told you, these things are delicate" |
“I’ve told you before, these things are delicate, Brynmor goes on,” and is informed that the child has tried to fix it. “You haven’t made a very good job of it!” is the next comment, “Too lazy, probably.”
Nicky's hand is glued to the table |
Then he discovers that Nicky has glued his right hand to the table, and his attitude changes;
"Don't worry, I'll sort it" |
“Oh, right – don’t worry, I’ll sort it out, I know what to do,” and once again Nicky says how sorry he is.
Brynmor gets to work with the solvent |
Brynmor applies a superglue solvent and says that he has to do it very slowly as he does not want to rip the boy’s skin; “That’s not going to happen, OK?
"I did something similar at school" |
“I remember doing something similar when I was at school – I was mucking around with a pot of glue – it tipped over and went everywhere – on my hands, and trousers. I had to ask my brother to take my trousers off because my hands were stuck together.
"The headmaster walked in . . ." |
“And who walked in while this is going on? Only the headmaster –
". . . and I gor a week's detention" |
“I got a week’s detention.”
The solvent has done its work and Nicky is able to slowly remove his hand.
"Thanks, Brynmor – sorry about the vase" |
“Thanks, Brynmor – sorry about the vase,” he says, and it is dismissed as an accident.
"Shall we start again?" |
Brynmor is sorry for shouting at him earlier, as he is not used to being around children, and suggests that they start again.
"Deal!" |
“Deal!” Nicky tells him.
Britt is droning on and on . . . |
Britt is expounding her ideas to Kelly; “Like I told Eileen, if you really want to make money, you should do what they do in America – a ‘turducken’! You put a duck inside a chicken and the chicken inside a turkey, then roast the whole thing. You could make a fortune, honest.”
. . . and Kelly has a job to stay awake |
Kelly’s eyes are beginning to glaze over,
"You're not writing anything down" |
and Britt notices that she has not written anything down.
"Dictaphone – in here" |
“The Dictaphone, up here,” she replies, pointing to her head, then gets to her main objective, “I wanted to ask you about Howard – nice bloke or what?”
"I haven't had a lot to do with him" |
“He’s all right – I haven’t had a lot to do with him –
Then she is on about another of her ideas |
“have you ever heard of ice cream bombs? They’re so interesting.”
Eileen needs Britt's assistance |
Fortunately Eileen comes in and rescues Kelly from more of Britt’s anecdotes.
As she is about to go out of the door again, Kelly asks if she could talk to Howard now;
"Why are you so interested in talking to him?" |
Eileen wants to know why Kelly is so interested in talking to him.
"Another angle, know what I mean?" |
“I want to talk to everyone – Howard’s a new recruit, so I thought it would be nice to get another angle, know what I mean?”
Britt’s voice is heard, demanding how she is to get this machine working,
"Can you come back next week?" |
and Eileen wants to deal with Kelly next week, as she needs to sort Britt out. Kelly is highly indignant.
"How's the injury, then?" |
In the Deri, Tegwen is working behind the bar, and when DJ comes in for a drink, she asks how the ‘injury’ is.
"Sioned said she was injured" |
“Sioned said that she couldn’t play because she was injured.”
"Oh, she hurt her shoulder" |
He manufactures an excuse that she hurt her shoulder, but Tegwen replies, “She said she had hurt her ankle – she isn’t injured, is she?
"Is she pregnant?" |
“No way would Sioned miss a game, unless . . . is she pregnant?”
"Keep your voice down" |
DJ urges her to keep her voice down; she wonders how DJ feels about it. “If you had asked me yesterday, I would have said ‘no way!’
"But I'm excited now" |
“But I’m excited now,” he smiles.
"Exactly how I felt" |
“Exactly how I felt when I found out I was expecting Ken,” she says and he agrees that now it is happening, he is looking forward to it. Sioned has bought them matching overalls, which are so cute.
"Not a word to anyone" |
He would appreciate it if Tegwen did not say a word to anyone.
"You can trust me, DJ" |
“You can trust me,” she assures him. (How many times have we heard that?)
"People sticking their noses into other people's business" |
“Just a chat about people sticking their noses into other people’s business, that’s all,” snarls Tegwen.
"Thanks for holding the fort, Tyler" |
Jason has returned to APD and thanks for holding the fort; Tyler is simply glad that Ifan is all right.
He seems popular on WatchGO |
Another message arrives on Tyler’s phone, notifying him that he has 25 new subscribers to his WatchGO page.
"Don't worry, we're nearly finished" |
Jason comes in and catches him looking at his phone again; “Don’t worry, Tyler, we’re nearly finished – remind me that I owe you a few pints for today, to say thanks properly.”
"Are you going to answer that?" |
The repeated sounds of several more messages can be heard,
Tyler is optimistic |
and Tyler looks very pleased with himself.
"Come up, Petra" |
Jinx is busy cooking at Cysgod y Glyn when the buzzer sounds and he invites Petra to come up;
"Something smells nice" |
she has bought a bottle and comments that something smells nice.
"Are you responsible for the decor?" |
She wonders if he is responsible for the décor and he explains that Ffion did all of it.
"She lives here too – well, not just her" |
“Ffion’s the landlady – she lives here too – well, not just her,” he answers, and she imagines that must be rather awkward. He points out that it seems to be working.
"Someone else lives here?" |
“Did you say that someone else lived here?” Petra asks, and, right on cue, Arwen appears in the doorway. She is told that she should be in her room,
"Who's she?" |
but is inquisitive to know who the visitor is.
"Are you Jinx's new girlfriend?" |
“So are you Jinx’s new girlfriend? That smells nice – is there enough for me?”
"No, there isn't!" |
Petra persuades Jinx to let her eat with them,
"I don't mind" |
explaining that she does not mind,
Arwen gets herself a plate |
and Arwen hurries to get a plate. Jinx does not look entirely happy about the situation.
"Didn't take you long to get your fete under the table" |
“It didn’t take you long to get your feet under the table,” Eifion sneers at Tegwen, and she points out that it was a case of being in the right place at the right time.
"That's not what I ordered" |
He picks up his pint and complains, “That’s not what I ordered – I ordered a bitter.” Tegwen tells him that he actually ordered a lager, but he disputes this.
"What are you doing here?" |
Cassie wants to know what he is doing there, and he replies, “I’m allowed in here – I was sacked, not barred.” She tells him to take his drink and be a pain somewhere else.
"Or do I have to talk to the boss?" |
“Not until I get my bitter – or do I have to talk to the boss?” he threatens.
"Is this why you get for £10 an hour these days?" |
As Cassie pulls him a pint, he grumbles, “At least I know my drinks – is this what you get for £10 an hour these days?”
"I only get £9" |
Tegwen is dismayed that she is only getting £9 an hour; she compares notes with Tesni,
"I thought everybody got £10" |
who thought that everybody got £10.
Now he has managed to get rid of Arwen . . . |
At Cysgod y Glyn, Arwen has returned to her room, and Jinx apologises for her disturbance of their date; “I like a man who’s good with kids,” Petra tells him, and he wonders if that is the only thing she likes about him. She asks what else he can do.
. . . Jinx is about to kiss Petra |
Just as he is leaning forward to kiss her, there is the sound of footsteps on the stairs, and in walks Ffion.
"Oh, sorry – I'm interrupting!" |
“Oh, sorry – I’m interrupting,” she says,
"I'd better go . . ." |
and Petra thinks that she had better go as it is getting late;
"We'll get to know each other better another time" |
she hopes they can get to know each other better another time.
“Nice to meet to you, Ffion,” Petra says as she leaves.
"How did it go, then?" |
When asked how it went, Jinx complains that she said she would be back late,
"It is late–ish" |
and Ffion replies that it is late-ish.
"What is wrong with the women in this house?" |
“What’s wrong with the women in this house?” he exclaims.
"Keep the change!" — Isn't Colin extremely short of money" |
In the Deri, Tegwen is serving Colin with his drink, and he tells her to keep the change as a bonus on her first night.
"We're supposed to share the tips" |
Tesni points out to her that they are supposed to share the tips.
"Why should I?" |
“Why should I? You haven’t done anything all night!” Tegwen answers, and Tesni wonders if she needs to call Cassie.
“I need the money, OK?” Tegwen insists, but so does Tesni,
"Arguing again?" |
and Cassie catches them arguing again, so asks for the change
The money goes into the charity box |
and donates it to the Apêl Maenan collecting box.
She reminds Tegwen that there are dirty glasses to collect; “Do you want this job?”
"You're a selfish, entitled brat!" |
When she has walked away, Tegwen comments, “I know your type – you think you’re chocolate, “but you’re a selfish, entitled brat!”
"All that fuss over a few pounds" |
Tesni counters with, “What are you, then? All that fuss over a few pounds.”
"It's not easy raising a child on your own" |
Tegwen explains that it is not easy raising a child alone, and that she needs the money.
"You shouldn't have had one!" |
“If you can’t afford kids, you shouldn’t have had one!” is Tesni’s angry reply.
Cassie again reminds her about the dirty glasses,
"Nobody talks to me like that, understand?" |
and Tegwen’s final comment to Tesni is, “Nobody talks to me like that, do you understand?”
