Dylan stares at the Post-it note

Dylan is staring fixedly at the Post-it note he found during the night when Dani can be heard, telling Seren, “Come on – we’re going to be late!”   

"You can shift, too!"

When she comes into the room and sees him, she adds, “You can shift, too – I’ve got a college friend coming over.”

"You've only been in that college five minutes"

“A friend?   You’ve only been in that college five minutes,” he comments, but Dani replies that she is nice and they have ‘clicked’.   “Who is she, then?” Dylan demands, “And where is she from?”

"She lives somewhere near Carmarthen"

Dani informs him that she is Petra and lives somewhere near Carmarthen;  

"You shouldn't bring someone here you don't know"

he tells her that she should not be bringing someone she does not know there.   

"I don't want you here – OK?"

“Don’t be ridiculous, Dylan – she’s coming here at 11 o’clock and I don’t want you here – OK?” Dani snaps.

Colin berates . . .

Outside the shop, Colin is looking angry and shouts 

. . . customers of Sioned's 'Dairy' business

to some people across the road, “You should support a business that’s been here for decades – 

"Not a shop full of machines!"

“not a shop full of machines!”   

"Where's Tegwen, then?"

Mathew comes through the alley, and Colin asks, “Where’s Tegwen, then?    She and Ken are usually around the place like a rash.   You won’t be able to fall out of bed and roll into APD when you move in with them.”

"We're going to Lapland together!"

Mathew points out that they have decided to wait before doing that;  “But I’ve booked us all to go to Lapland together!”

Colin is not very impressed, and enquires whether they have got thick thermals.   

"Lapland!   Jingle Bells!"

Mathew continues on his way to APD, and Colin mutters, “Lapland!   Jingle bells!”

Dylan looks round suspiciously 

Dylan peeps cautiously out of the Deri to make sure that the coast is clear, and is immediately noticed by Megan;  

Megan is looking for some assistance

“Dylan, just the man!” she exclaims, “Would you be able to help me in the vestry at Bethania this morning?”   

"I'm busy, Megan"

He replies that he is busy, but she is not deterred.

“Oh, Dylan – we both know that you’re just kicking your heels these days – listen, I think a bit of physical work and helping me move things in the vestry would do you good.”   

He is watching for a murderer

He is simply staring vacantly along the street, and when she has finished he reiterates that he is busy.   She insists that it would only take an hour of his time, 

Then he notices – another Post-it note . . .

and then his gaze falls upon what she is holding in her hand;  a book – perhaps a diary – with Post-it notes protruding from it.

He is seemingly transfixed by what he sees, 

. . . and hurries away . . . 

and tells her, “I have to go – I have things to do!”   

. . . looking at the note he found

As he walks away, he looks at the similar note he found last night, ‘Welcome back’.   

Gwyneth gets some grim satisfaction from this

Watching from the doorway of Tomos ac Ellis is Gwyneth, who again has that malicious look.

Brynmor warns her against 'The Dairy'

Brynmor sees her and comes across from the garage;  Gwyneth says she was going to have a look at Sioned’s new venture, but is cautioned, “Let me tell you, the coffee tastes like cat’s pee and the hot chocolate tastes of plastic – so keep your money!”

"Kath's really enjoying this 'upcycling'!"

He adds, “By the way, Kath’s really enjoying this ‘upcycling’,” which surprises Gwyneth.   

"Thanks for the idea"

“I don’t know what the drawers will look like when she’s finished, but thanks for the idea.”

"I'm glad I could help"

Gwyneth is quite aware that Kath does not like her much at the moment, but is glad that she could help.   Brynmor offers to buy her a proper coffee in the Deri, but Gwyneth declines;  “Some other time, perhaps?” she says.

That barn at Penrhewl has seen better days

Howard is looking at his phone by a rather dilapidated barn when Britt approaches;  

"If Eileen sees you, we'll both be in the silage!"

“What are you doing?” she shouts, “If Eileen sees you, we’ll both be in the silage!   She’s in a terrible mood today – and be careful, because Huwi-John is running round the place, too.”   

"Shouldn't he be at school?"

Howard thought he should be at school, but she goes on, “Exactly – but she says he’s ill – again!   There’s nothing wrong with him, if you ask me – but look out, because he’s around the place!”

Howard assures her that he is not stupid, 

"Can you pluck chickens?"

and the next question is, “Can you pluck chickens?   That’s the next thing on Eileen’s list – so go on!”   He reminds her that he requires cash upfront, 

She pays in advance

and she hands over some more money.   Her simply gets out his phone again.

"At least three coffees"

Dani’s friend, Petra, is at the Deri flat;  “I can’t cope unless I have at least three coffees in the morning,” says Dani.

"Three kids, two exes . . ."

Petra agrees, “I’d need caffeine if I had three kids, two exes, a high maintenance brother and a dog!”   

"Three exes, actually"

Dani points out that it is actually three exes – and the dog is easy.   

"Why the romantic disasters?"

“So why the romantic disasters, then?” Petra asks.

"Two were in prison and the other a dodgy copper!"

“The men, obviously!” Dani replies, “Just put it like this – two have been in prison and the other one was a dodgy copper!”   

"So that's why you chose criminology"

Petra can understand now why she chose a criminology course, and Dani confesses that she has met all sorts, but wonders if there is anything dodgy in her visitor’s past.

“Nothing, really,” is the reply, “I’ve done a lot of travelling and made a lot of mistakes – it’s all a bit boring, really.   

"I'm fascinated by the criminal mind"

“I’m fascinated by the criminal mind – and whether people really are good or bad.”   

"That's rather 'deep' for 11:00am"

Dani considers that rather ‘deep’ for 11:00am.

Kath is walking much better

At Maes-y-Deri, where Kath is now getting around much better without her walking aids, she has just made a cup of tea when Gwyneth comes in.   

"What do you want?"

“What do you want?” she groans.

"What colour are you going to use?"

Gwyneth remarks that the chest of drawers is good, and wonders what colour she is going to use, but Kath still wants to know why she is there.   “I saw Brynmor and I thought I’d come and see how you are getting on with the ‘upcycling’,” says Gwyneth.

"I've paid for what I did"

“I do understand how you feel about what happened to Ricky – I’ve paid for what I did – you, of all people, appreciate that, surely.   You also understand how hard it is when you get out of prison.   I accepted my punishment – unlike Debbie.”

"I don't want to talk about her!"

Kath definitely does not want to talk about her, and makes that crystal clear;  

"Have you got any sandpaper?"

“Have you got any sandpaper?” Gwyneth asks.

They are still chatting . . .

As they laugh together, Petra realises that she has been there for ages and they have not even looked at the notes;  Dani has enjoyed having a chat, 

. . . when Dylan returns

and at that moment Dylan walks in.   “Sorry, you’re still here – Petra, is it?” he says, 

"You must be Dylan"

and she assumes that this is Dylan, who Dani has mentioned.   

"Good things, I hope"

“Has she now?   Good things,” I hope, he remarks.

"You've become friends very quickly, don't you think?"

“You two have become friends very quickly, don’t you think?” he continues, and a disapproving glare from Dani does not stop him;  “Where are you from, then?” he continues.

Petra is originally from Stoke, but now lives near Carmarthen;  the inquisition continues, “Have you been to Cwmderi before?” 

"Right, I ought to leave"

and presumably having been warned by Dani, Petra thinks that she ought to leave.   She will phone Dani later about the essay.

"You were supposed to leave us alone"

“You were supposed to leave us alone,” growls Dani, and he is quite convinced that they were talking about him, wondering what they said.   “What are you doing here?” she demands;  

"Showing an interest and being friendly"

he maintains that he is showing an interest and being friendly.

"You were rude and embarrassing!"

“You were rude and embarrassing!” she goes on, “Just go, please – I’ve got work to do.”   When he does not move, she adds, “Now!” 

Off he goes

and he reluctantly leaves the room.

Tegwen walks along the High Street

Tegwen walks past the salon and encounters Howard;  

"What are you doing here?"

she snarls, “What are you doing here?” and when he tries to hug her, she warns him not to do that;  “Look at the state of you!”

"I wanted lunch and a pint"

He answers that he has been working and wanted lunch and a pint;  

"Well, go somewhere else"

“Well, go somewhere else,” she tells him, “Do you have any money?”   He says that he will get the bus to Llanarthur now, and she instructs him not to hang around the village again.

Colin is watching

This conversation has been witnessed by Colin who is taking out the rubbish from the shop;  he looks concerned at what he has seen.

At Maes-y-Deri, Gwyneth has been deploying the sandpaper and appears quite pleased with the end result, but Kath is not so sure about the colour.   She maintains, “The next trick is to get Brynmor to persuade someone who’s stupid enough to pay a fortune for it.”

"Brynmor's not worried about the money"

Gwyneth does not think that Brynmor is worried about the money;  “He’s worried about you,” she says 

"This 'upcycling' is some kind of rehab"

and Kath knows that he regards this ‘upcycling’ as some kind of rehab for her.

"I have changed, you know, Kath"

Gwyneth thinks this is the moment to repeat that she has changed;  

"'Upcycled' yourself, have you?"

“You’ll be telling me next that you’ve ‘upcycled’ yourself,” says Kath, 

"Shall I make us a cup of tea?"

and Gwyneth will make her cup of tea and help to clear up.   

"You may as well while you're here"

“You may as well while you’re here,” Kath agrees, 

Gwyneth considers her 'charm offensive' to have worked

and Gwyneth thinks that she has won Kath over.

"Eileen wanted me to pluck chickens!"

Colin is getting out the plates for their meal when Britt returns home, complaining, “It was mayhem at Penrhewl today!   One of the first things Eileen wanted me to do was to pluck chickens!”   

"I saw Tegwen today"

He is obviously not taking notice, and informs Britt that he saw Tegwen today;  

"Leave Tegwen and Mathew alone, Col"

she advises him to leave Tegwen and Mathew alone.

"I saw her with some bloke"

“I saw her with some bloke,” he continues, but Britt points out that everyone has a right to have friends.   

“It’s the second time now I’ve seen her with the same bloke – Ken was with her her last time, and he knew the bloke as well.”

"He put his arms around her"

Britt suspects that it may have been Ken’s father, but is told, “He put his arms around her – and he’s a rough looking bloke.   Tegwen didn’t want anyone to see him cwtching her.   They both looked very shifty – as if they had something to hide, you know.   Do you think I should say something to Mathew?   I don’t want the boy to get hurt – he’s just paid for a holiday for the three of them to Lapland.”

"Ooh – that's not cheap!"

Britt realises that is not cheap, and Colin is convinced that she is taking advantage of him.   

"He'll get hurt even more if you don't tell him"

“Well, if you’re right, Mathew will get hurt even more if you don’t tell him,” Britt advises.   

"But he thinks the world of her, Britt"

Colin appreciates that he thinks the world of her;  

"Even more reason to tell him now"

“Even more reason to tell him now, isn’t it?” Britt concludes.  

Kath is taking a nap

Kath is dozing after her exertions when Brynmor comes home;  

"Do you like it?"

“Well, what do you think?   Do you like it?” she asks, and he does not know what to say.   

Brynmor is also not sure about the colour

He is not sure about the colour, and she explains that Gwyneth came over;  

"She finished it and changed the colour . . ."

“She finished it and changed the colour – I think she came over to ‘help’, you know, 

". . . but I think she just wanted to 'make up'"

“but I think she just wanted to make up.”

"And have you 'made up'?"

Brynmor enquires if they have ‘made up’ and is told that Kath would not go that far, but realises that life is too short, and that you cannot hold a grudge for ever.   

"She's been punished, hasn't she?"

“Anyway, she’s been punished, hasn’t she?”

He is very pleased to hear this and will take the chest to the garage tomorrow to sell it;  

"Let's hope we make a small fortune"

“Let’s hope we make a small fortune,” she says.

"Don't tell me – you've upset Dani!"

Dylan comes out of the shop with some flowers;  “Honestly, there was no need!” jokes Gwyneth, who happens to be passing, “Don’t tell me – you’ve upset Dani!”   

"Mind your own business!"

He tells her to mind her own business and she smiles.

"I want to talk to you, Math . . ."

In the shop flat, Colin arrives, looking rather awkward;  he refuses the offer of a cup of tea, and wants to talk to Mathew.   

". . . its about Tegwen"

“I know it’s none of my business what you do with your life, but I’m here to talk about Tegwen.”

Mathew knows that Colin has a right to his opinion, but insists that Tegwen . . . 

"I can't let someone make a fool of you"

Colin finishes his sentence for him;  “She isn’t right for you – sorry, Math, you’re a nice bloke – you’re kind, honest, and I can’t let someone make a fool of you.”   

"What are you on about, Col?"

Mathew does not understand what he is talking about.

"Tegwen is cheating on you"

“Tegwen is cheating on you,” Colin continues, and Mathew laughs.   

"I saw her and some bloke in each other's arms"

“I saw her and some bloke today in each others arms – I know what I saw, Math!   And don’t start telling me he’s a friend, because they didn’t look like friends at all.   Did she say she was meeting a friend today?   Ask her – it was at lunchtime, and I bet she’ll say she didn’t meet anyone.”

"You must let me move on with my life"

Mathew insists that he has to be allowed to move on with his life, but Colin is adamant, “Ask her, Math!   I don’t want to upset you, OK, 

"I don't want you to get hurt, Math"

“but I don’t want you to get hurt either – 

"You can't trust that girl"

“you can’t trust that girl.”

"I'll have a chat with you tomorrow"

Dani is talking on the phone to Petra, and admits that she has not done an essay since school;  “I’ll have a chat with you tomorrow – I’m fine – 

"That's how Dylan is, you know"

“that’s how Dylan is, you know.   OK, so long.”

"Talking about me again?"

Dylan has been listening to last part of this conversation;  “I heard my name there,” he says, “Talking about me again?”   

"We were just having a chat"

When Dani replies that they were just having a chat, he wants to know what it was about.

She asks him, “How are the children?” 

He has been looking after the children

and he tells her that he has just put Gabriel down to sleep, Gwern is doing his homework and Seren is on the iPad.

"I can't work with you staring at me"

“I can’t work with you staring at me,” she complains, and he sees a pad of Post-it notes on the desk by her laptop;  

"What's this?   Where did you get it?"

he asks what they are and where she got them, so she wants to know what is wrong.

"You need professional help"

He has a wild look in his eyes as she tells him, “You need help – professional help – I don’t think you’re coping very well.”

"Think you're an expert on psychology?"

“You’ve been in some fancy college for two minutes, and you think you’re an expert on psychology?” he demands, “But you don’t know anything!”   

"The murderer could be out there!"

He repeatedly hits his head with his hand.   “The murderer could be out there – it could be someone from the village!”

"You're not getting better – you're out of control!"

This is the last straw for Dani;  she jumps up from her chair, exclaiming, “You know what?   I’ve tried, OK, but I can’t . . . look at you!   You’re not getting better – you’re out of control!”

"I am – until I find whoever killed my sister!"

With tears in his eyes, he agrees, “I am – until I find whoever killed my sister!”

"I want you to move out!"

Dani is not having that;  “No!” she shouts, “I want you to move out – I can’t do this – I have to think about the children.   

"Just pack your bags and go!"

“Just pack your bags and go!”

"I've lost everything and everybody"

As the tears stream down his face, he says, “Yeah, as long as the children are all right, I don’t matter.   I’ve lost everything and everybody.”

"I told you this would happen if you kept pushing me!"

“I told you this is what would happen if you kept pushing me,” she screams, “You’re pushing me and pushing me!”

Again he groans, “I don’t matter – I’ve lost everything – 

"You're the only thing I've got left, Dan"

“you’re the only thing I’ve got left, Dan.   Where am I supposed to go?”

"All that's important is the children – nobody else!"

She makes it quite clear that she does not care, and all that is important is the children – nobody else.   With that she storms from the room.
