Jason has made sure everything is up to date |
Outside APD, Jason is updating Mathew, “I’ve taken the cement to Llanarthur, invoiced the Evanses for the wall and put the stock out. If we actually want the afternoon off,
"Are you ready to meet Tegwen's boy?" |
“we don’t want any panicked phone calls from Anita, do we? So are you ready to meet Tegwen’s boy?”
Mathew is not sure about that |
Mathew is not sure that he is, and it is suspected that he is nervous;
"I hope you're more talkative with her" |
“Well, I hope you’re more talkative with her than you are with me,” Jason continues, and Mathew is looking very uneasy.
Jason demands to be told what has happened;
"We might be offered a big contract" |
“It’s possible that APD will be offered a contract to renovate Seilo Chapel,” Mathew begins, and Jason points out that is a good thing. “But, according to Rhys, the company that works on that chapel has to do the work on Bethania.”
"Bethania's not on the market" |
“Our Bethania?” asks Jason, “It’s not on the market.” Mathew is aware of that, but it is an awful lot of money, not to mention publicity for APD.
"It's very important to people in the village" |
Jason’s verdict is quite clear; “No – Bethania is very important to people in the village! What do you think they will say when we are working in there?”
"At least we're local" |
“Well, if we don’t do the work, someone else will – at least we’re local,” Mathew snarls, but Jason considers that there are more important things in life than money – he should know that – like keeping local people happy.
Tyler arrives |
Tyler comes in, and Jason wants him to do something;
Mathew is in a quandary |
“Come with me,” he says, and Mathew is left in rather a quandary.
Eileen has been cooking |
Eileen has prepared a tea party for Jaclyn; when she arrives, Eileen says that she did not really expect her to come.
She wants to sort things out with Javlyn |
“But I didn’t want you to leave the Cwm without sorting things out.” Jaclyn is not in the mood to argue,
"I just wanted to apologise" |
but Eileen is anxious to apologise.
“All this is for me?” Jaclyn asks, and she is told that she has been a huge help over the last few months.
"I was thinking only of myself" |
When Eileen heard that she was leaving, she was thinking only of herself and is sorry about that.
"Your onion chutney is really nice" |
Jaclyn can understand why and is sorry for saying that her onion chutney is overrated; “It’s really nice.”
Eileen is doubtful about that, as she still has not recovered her sense of taste.
Sioned joins the celebrations |
As they sit down, Sioned comes in, carrying a bottle of Prosecco; “I’ve come to say goodbye to Jaclyn – that’s allowed, isn’t it? Right, Prosecco, anyone?” Eileen does not look pleased to see her daughter
Tyler and Jason wait for Anita |
As they sit on the bench outside APD, Jason and Tyler see Anita coming;
"You left home early this morning" |
she remarks that Jason left home early this morning, and he replies that he had to start first thing to get everything done. Tyler will go now,
"I'll text when everything is ready" |
and says he will text when everything is ready.
Of course Anita wants to know where he is going and is told that he is fetching some things;
"I'm going to take Kelly out for a posh meal" |
“Right, I have the afternoon off,” Jason informs her, “I’ve booked a table in the Glyndwr – I’m going to take Kelly out for a posh meal.” Now Anita wants to know why,
"Do I need an excuse to treat my girlfriend?" |
and he demands, “Do I need an excuse to treat my girlfriend? Enjoy your afternoon.”
Anita is convinced that she is right |
Anita is even more convinced now that her assumption is correct.
"No, I'll be driving later" |
Jaclyn declines a glass of Prosecco, giving the excuse that she has a lot to do and will be driving later, so she had better not. Sioned advises her mother not to drink either,
"We don't want you jumping on another married man!" |
“We don’t want you jumping on another married man after some Prosecco!”
Eileen does not appreciate that |
This remarks is not appreciated by Eileen.
Sioned is still showing signs of a cough, and her mother wonders, “Is there damp at Deri Fawr?”
"To Jaclyn, to me and DJ" |
Sioned denies this and proposes a toast Jaclyn and her new adventure, to herself and DJ at Deri Fawr.
As an afterthought, she adds, dismissively, “And Mam – well, you can be happy for us.”
"You ought to see a doctor, Sioned" |
She still cannot get rid of this cough, and Eileen recommends that she should see a doctor,
"It's just a cold" |
but Sioned says that it is just a cold, enquiring about Jaclyn’s plans.
"I'm going to London, and perhaps Europe" |
“I’m going to London to see Aled and Tes, and then perhaps Europe,” Jaclyn tells them,
"You're lucky your children are independent" |
and Eileen remarks that she is lucky the children are independent, and has the freedom to do what she wants.
"I'd better be going, Eileen" |
Jaclyn now thinks that it is time she left, although she does not seem to have eaten anything. She says she has a lot to sort out before Anita’s Whist Night, but thanks Eileen for going to so much trouble.
"You don't mind me staying to finish this, do you?" |
“You don’t mind me staying to finish this, do you?” asks Sioned, as she pours herself another glass. Eileen does not look exactly pleased.
So this is Ken |
Mathew meets Tegwen by the bench, and at the other end of the alley, Ken is kicking a rugby ball.
"I just want to meet Ken" |
She can tell that Mathew is worried, but he does not want to talk about that, just to meet Ken. “If you want him to like you, don’t disturb him while he’s kicking a ball,” Tegwen advises,
"Come on – what's wrong?" |
“Come on – what’s wrong?”
"Well, APD has been offered a job" |
“Well, APD has been offered a job – a long-term project worth a lot of money, but we’d probably upset people in the village. Jason is against it.”
"I know you wouldn't hurt anyone deliberately" |
Tegwen points out that she has not known him very long, but she does know that he would not hurt anyone deliberately, and invites him to think about the pros and cons.
"Is this Mathew?" |
Ken joins them, asking, “Is this Mathew?”
"Your mother tells me you're s huge fan of . . . cricket" |
“Your mother tells me you’re a huge fan of cricket!” says Mathew, and the boy takes something from his bag –
A picture for Mathew |
a picture he has drawn for Mathew.
"Why don't you tell me who they are?" |
“Thank you, Ken – it’s brilliant – why don’t you tell an old fool like me who they are?”
Tegwen goes to the shop |
Tegwen leaves them together while she goes to the shop for some picnic food.
"I'll have to come to Deri Fawr" |
“I’ll have to come to Deri Fawr to see all these changes,” Eileen comments as Sioned continues drinking, and replies that she will inform her mother when they are ready for visitors.
"Huwi's 'Gator' has arrived |
Then Eileen notices through the kitchen window that Huwi’s ‘Gator’ has arrived, and asks her daughter to go and sign for it.
Sioned has breathing problems |
However, Sioned is trying to hide the fact that she is suffering from shortness of breath, and as soon as Eileen has left the room,
She uses her inhaler . . . |
she takes the inhaler from her bag;
. . . and is caught by Eileen |
her mother returns to find her with it in her hand, but is told to mind her own business.
"Why didn't you tell me, Sioned?" |
“I’m not stupid – it’s an asthma pump – why didn’t you tell me?” Sioned says nothing,
"Go back to Deri Fawr!" |
and is instructed, “Go back to Deri Fawr!”
"You're sending me away for coughing?" |
“You’re sending me away for coughing?” demands Sioned, and her mother continues that she must go and get her stuff,
"You and DJ are moving back to Penrhewl" |
then she and DJ are moving back to Penrhewl until that place is clear of damp. Sioned realises that DJ has been talking.
“I don’t want rent – I want you to be healthy,” Eileen points out, and Sioned looks rather deflated.
"They've got mussels on the specials board" |
As they approach the Glyndwr, Jason says that he is starving; “What do you fancy? They’ve got mussels on the specials board.”
"I'd be happy with a sandwich at home, to be honest" |
Kelly replies that she would be happy with a sandwich in the house, to be honest.
"Tyler is a bit lost" |
Then Jason’s phone sounds, and he reports that Tyler is a bit lost, trying to pick up supplies.
“We can go, if he needs help,” Kelly volunteers, but is told that he will be fine.
"I think I left the oven on, Jase" |
Then she comes up with the story, “Do you know what? I think I left the oven on in the house.”
He demands what is wrong, and why she is acting so oddly;
"Is everything all right?" |
“Is everything all right?” She says that she could ask him the same question, but he maintains, “All I want to do is take you out for nice meal –what’s wrong with that? Come on!”
Kelly smiles |
Kelly smiles, and they go into the hotel.
"You didn't tell me who they are" |
“Look, I love the colours you’ve used, but you didn’t tell me who they are,” continues Mathew, and he is told to guess; “I’d say that you are the little one, your mother is there, and I’m the big one in the middle.”
"Would you like to kick the ball?" |
Ken shakes his head, and asks if Mathew would like to kick the ball, but Matthew confesses that he is not very good at kicking a ball, so perhaps Ken could teach him how to kick it a long way.
"Right, you hold it like this" |
He is told the correct way to hold the ball and how he should kick it;
Tegwen approaches . . . |
Tegwen has just come out of the shop
. . . and is glad they are getting on so well |
and is pleased to see that they are getting on so well.
Kelly is still confused |
“Well, that was a very nice lunch – did you enjoy it?” enquires Jason, and Kelly replies that she is just a bit confused. “Yes, I know, £15 is a lot for a steak sandwich!” he agrees, “But that’s what you pay for fresh local produce,” as they walk out of the hotel.
Tyler reports no progress . . . |
Then his phone sounds again, with a message from Tyler; ‘Nothing yet – I’ll text when it arrives.’
. . . so Jason wants to walk off the calories |
He suddenly realises that he is still a bit full, and suggests that they should walk off the calories.
By this time, Kelly realises that something is going on; “Jason, thanks for the food – but I’ve got loads of work to do!” she exclaims,
"We have to take advantage of the good weather" |
but he maintains they need to take advantage of the good weather and the wonderful views.
“Are you all right or what?’ she demands,
Then he is informed that the zebra has landed |
and he receives another message indicating that ‘The zebra has landed!’ In a sudden change of mind, he agrees that Kelly is right and that he should take her home if she has work to do.
Kelly is even more confused |
She is even more confused.
"Four years old, and she's bought him a blinking' car!" |
When DJ and Sioned arrive back at Penrhewl, he accuses her of overreacting, but she moans on, “Huwi’s four years old and she’s bought him a blinkin’ car!” He corrects her that it is a ‘Gator’, and she continues, “You know how much those things cost!” She tells DJ to stop complaining;
"You put the kettle on!" |
she will take the bags upstairs and he is detailed to put the kettle on.
He hears her anguished cry |
He fills the kettle, and then hears Sioned’s angry voice, “Are you serious?
"My room's been pointed!" |
“My room’s been painted!”
"I'll call the police straightaway!" |
DJ sarcastically promises to immediately phone the police. “You know why, don’t you?” she snarls, and he suggests that Sioned’s mother is trying to make her feel bad.
"She's trying to erase every sign that I lived here!" |
“She’s trying to erase every sign that I ever lived here!” she growls, and DJ points out that Eileen is so worried about her daughter, she has asked her to live there.
"It's only temporary" |
“It’s only temporary,” Sioned insists, but DJ pleads that they have to get on while they are there. “And just play happy families?”
"Unless your Mam has ripped out the bath as well" |
DJ proposes that they can have a cup of tea and then Sioned can have a nice bath; “Unless your Mam has ripped that out as well!”
"This is really weird!" |
When they arrive home at Bryntirion, Kelly is ordered to close her eyes; “I’m not being funny, but this is really weird,” she complains. He tells her that she should really be saying that it is exciting.
"You were right, something was going on" |
When she finally is allowed to open her eyes, he admits that she was right and there was something going on; “Tyler was not collecting supplies – he was here accepting a delivery.
"It's safari themed and not boring" |
“I couldn’t find a cream rug like the one you had – and I tried everywhere. They were sold out, so I got this – it’s ‘safari’ themed and definitely not boring.”
"What happened to the cream rug?" |
Kelly seems more interested in finding out what happened to the cream rug; he has to admit that he spilled ketchup and black coffee on it, “And I made it worse when I tried to get the stain out. I used Ifan’s toys to hide the stain, so you didn’t notice.”
She begins to laugh |
Kelly is laughing by this time, and when asked if she likes it, which he is fairly sure is a zebra,
"I love it – and I love you!" |
she answers, “I love it – and I love you!”
"What a relief!" |
Jason collapses on the sofa with relief.
Rhys comes out of Tomos ac Ellis |
Rhys comes out of Tomos ac Ellis and meets Mathew walking along the road; “You look happy – have you decided to accept my offer?”
"You're like a dog with a bone, Rhys" |
Mathew accuses him of being like a dog with a bone, stressing that it is more complicated than that.
"Imagine what Anita will say" |
Jason was not happy about it, and he can only imagine what Anita will say.
"You should start putting your business first" |
Rhys advises him to start putting his business first, but Mathew has not made any decision yet. “Don’t take too long or another company will snatch the contract.”
Mathew shows him the picture drawn by Ken; “I met him for the first time this afternoon –
"We got on great" |
“I was worried, but we got on great.”
"What does Ken's father have to say?" |
Rhys wonders what his father has to say about Mathew muscling in, but they have not discussed it yet, which Rhys finds rather puzzling.
"I'm sure Tegwen would have told me" |
Mathew stresses still early days, but if there was anything he needed to know, he is sure that Tegwen would have told him. Rhys says that he was at school with her,
"I could ask a couple of the boys" |
and he could ask a couple of the boys if they know anything; “A bit of unofficial research – and then you’d know exactly what you’re dealing with.’
"OK, but don't mention me" |
Mathew reluctantly agrees, but insists that his name should be kept out of it.
"How was the big lunch?" |
In the evening, Anita returns home and asks, “How was is the big lunch?”
"It was beautiful" |
Jason replies that it was beautiful, and Kelly tells her that something else is beautiful.
Anita is unimpressed by the rug |
Anita is rather less than enthralled by the new rug, and Kelly explains, “Jason took me out for a gorgeous lunch, so that there was a big surprise waiting for me when we got home.
"He and Tyler planned the whole thing!" |
She adds, very pointedly, “Apparently he and Tyler planned the whole thing!”
"Only the best for Kelly" |
“Only the best for the most important woman in the world,” he says, and Kelly asks him to make a cup of tea while she finds out about the whist night.
"There were a lot of people there" |
Anita informs her that it was very successful and that there were a lot of people there; “We made about £500, to be honest. Jaclyn said she’d be there but she didn’t turn up – I don’t know why.”
"I've had a hell of a day!" |
“I’ve had a hell of a day!” Kelly moans, and Anita is so sorry. “I never want another day as on edge as that ever again.”
Anita points out that at least she did not have to let Jason down after he popped the question.
"You were going to say no, weren't you?" |
Seeing Kelly’s gloomy look, she goes on, “Because you were going to say no, weren't you?”
"I guess I was a bot disappointed" |
Kelly does not know the answer to that; “I was so anxious about him asking – and then when he didn’t ask, I guess I was a bit disappointed.”
Anita complains that she has more chance of keeping up with Geraint Thomas on his bike than of keeping up with Kelly.
Eileen is back from the whist |
Eileen returns from the whist to the farm and reports that it was a lot of fun; “On the advice of Dr DJ, Sioned has gone to relax in the bath,” she is told,
"That's a nasty cough she has" |
and Eileen considers that she has a nasty cough. “Well, I did tell her to go to the doctor sooner,” DJ adds.
"She should never have developed asthma" |
Eileen says that Deri Fawr is a dangerous place, and that Sioned should never have developed asthma.
"We're grateful to you, Eileen" |
DJ is very grateful that Eileen is not going to charge them rent. “I don’t want money, no,” she replies,
"I don't need money – I need help" |
“I don’t need money – I need help. You can contribute by finishing the hay baling at Penrhewl.”
He points out that there is still a lot of work to do at Deri Fawr, but she is sure that he will manage.
"I don't think Sioned would be happy" |
“I don’t think Sioned would be happy if I did that.”
"If she finds out we kissed" |
Eileen suggests, “She’ll be more angry if she finds out we kissed,” and he angrily points out that she kissed him. “Let me know what you decide,” she says,
DJ is being blackmailed |
“Good night.”
Jaclyn is not feeling too clever |
At number 10, Jaclyn gets a glass of water, and is apparently not feeling 100%;
She has been looking at websites . . . |
she picks up her phone and we see that she has been looking at various websites,
. . . including this one |
the latest one of which is ‘Abortion Clinic’.
