That Gwyneth is certainly evil

Jaclyn is still tied to the chair, motionless, with Gwyneth staring malevolently at her.

"Do you remember me from Christmas?"

In the Deri flat, Dylan has his son, Gabriel, on his knee;  “Do you remember me from Christmas?” he asks, “Perhaps there’s just a bond between a father and son – yes?”

Gabriel is not impressed with Dylan

Gabriel appears to be disinterested while Dani walks across the room.

"Don't be nervous, Dani"

Dylan replaces him in his playpen and tells Dani, “Don’t be nervous,” and she replies that she is not, but says that it is not safe for him to be there.

"Garry knows you're out"

“Garry – he’s not here, but he knows you’re out – he said he had someone keeping an eye on you in the jail,” Dani goes on.

"Garry Monk's not going to stop me being a father"

Dylan makes it very clear that neither Garry Monk or anyone else is going to stop him from being a father, and instructs her to sit down.

"I'll do the night shift"

“You look tired,” and Dani snaps that of course she is tired, as she has not slept since Gabriel arrived.   “Listen, I’m supposed to go and see Jaclyn, but I’ll come back and I’ll do the night shift,” he says.

"I said you only had half an hour"

She reminds him that she told him he had just half an hour.

"Just think how good you'll feel"

“Just think how good you’ll feel, after a nights sleep,” he tempts her, so she tells him to go and see Jaclyn, and if he really wants to do the night shift . . . fine, because she is really tired.

Dylan has changed his mind now;

"Jaclyn can wait"

“I don’t want to go and see her – she can wait, if that’s OK with you.”   Dani is persuaded and agrees that he can stay.

Rhys arrives at Y Felin with the plans for Monk Mews, just to give Cai an idea,

"Why don't you stay for a can?"

and is invited to stay for a can, which offer is initially declined.

"I want some company"

“Oh, come on – I want company while I drown my sorrows – the kids have gone home.   I miss them so much, I feel worse after seeing them.”

Rhys wonders if he is having cold feet about Cwmderi, but Cai says he is determined to make it work.

"You've made more effort that Dad ever did with me"

“It looks as if you’ve made more of an effort with them today than Dad ever did when I lived in Aberystwyth,” Rhys comments.

"You know him and me have a lot of history?"

“You know your father and I have a lot of history, don’t you?” Cai continues, and Rhys answers that he has heard a few stories.

"You can hear the correct version"

He is told, “Sit down, I will get some cans, and you can hear the correct version.”

"Dad's been talking a lot about you"

After the wedding, Ricky is telling Andrea that his father has been talking a lot about her;

"You helped Mam-gu to walk"

“You helped Mam-gu to walk.”   Andrea points out that Kath did the hard work, and she only made the dress, which she enjoyed doing.

"It's been hard for Dad

Ricky explains that things have been hard for his father over the past few years;  “I left and Mam, and then Gerwyn – and when I ask if he’s OK and he says that of course he is, I know he’s not.

"I think that's down to you"

“But I haven’t heard him talk like that for ages – and I think that’s down to you.”

Cassie has some shots

Cassie brings in some more drinks, which Kath does not recognise;  “The Young Farmers were drinking these shots the other night.”

"We're not farmers and we're not young"

Kath emphasises that they are not farmers, they are not young and they are not teenagers.

She eyes the drink with suspicion

“I know that, but we can drink more than them –

"Down the hatch!"

“so down the hatch!” Cassie tells her.

"Iechyd da!"

Wishing each other, “Iechyd da!” they drink the concotion.

"I wish I'd seen his face"

I know I shouldn’t say this, but I wish I’d seen his face when he walked in on you and Stacey!” laughs Rhys, and Cai realises that Rhys and his father are not close.

"Things are complicated"

“Things are complicated especially as he didn’t raise me.”

"Me down here and the kids with the Gogs"

That is what Cai is afraid of;  “With me down here and the kids up there with the Gogs!”

"Dad never talked about me like that"

Rhys has seen what he is like when he talks about the children, and complains that his father never talked about him like that.

"Nesta has already told Lleucu a few things"

“Nesta has already told Lleucu a few things,” Cai grumbles,

"You should just be honest with them"

ut Rhys advises that he should just be honest with them.   He is sure that things would have been better if Hywel had admitted that he made a lot of mistakes over the years.

"This animosity is my fault"

Cai groans, “Perhaps I should take the same advice as your father – all this animosity between us, most of it is my fault – Stacey, Nesta, Lleucu – I don’t want to start this new period with any resentment.”

"Dad's not the best at forgiveness"

Rhys warns, “Dad’s not the best at forgiveness – he prefers to have the upper hand,” but Cai will give it a try and is wished, “Good luck!”

Hywel has again forgotten the barman's name

Hywel walks into the Deri where Ieuan Griffiths is at the bar, and once again asks the barman, Geraint, for a pint, but calls him Ed.   “Drowning your sorrows, are you?” asks Griffiths,

"I'm celebrating that the flats are being built"

“I’m celebrating that these flats are going to get built – and I didn’t have to bribe anybody!”

"I don't know how you sleep at night"

Hywel wonders how Griffiths sleeps at night, and he replies, “I have a lavender spray – perhaps you should get Gaynor a bottle –

"Unless she's already stolen one!"

“unless she’s already stolen one!”   He offers to pay for Hywel’s pint, but this offer is refused, and Griffiths continues, “Remember to thank Gaynor for me –

"Is she hiding in the house, full of shame?"

“how is she?   Hiding in the house, full of shame?”

Then Hywel’s phone rings;  “Uh-oh – not the police I hope,” Griffiths smirks.

That young blonde is in the Deri again

Hywel greets the caller, “How are you?   I’m in the Deri, if you want to meet up –

"Right, I'll see you in half an hour"

“right, I’ll see you in half an hour,” and he looks very pleased with himself.

Dani is enjoying a rest

Dylan has been dutifully caring for the baby, while Dani has been resting on the sofa;

"I'm sure he said 'Dad' earlier"

“I’m sure he said ‘Dad’ earlier,” he says, which Dani considers very unlikely, because he has only heard ‘Mam’.   “He’s perfect, isn’t he?   I am grateful for everything you’ve done – it can’t have been easy.”

"I did the school run in my slippers"

Dani concedes that there were some difficult days;  “I did the school run in my slippers – I didn’t know – Iolo had to tell me.   The parents must have thought I was mad.”

"Well, I think you're 'Super Woman'!"

Dylan regards her as ‘Super Woman’.

His phone sounds . . .

Then, at 22:05, he receives a text from Jaclyn’s phone,

. . . with a text, ostensibly from Jaclyn

instructing him to come over there now, and he apologises that he has to go across to see Jacs.

"I'm going to be a good father"

“You know you don’t have to do this alone any more – I’m going to be a good father,” he maintains.

Dani harbours some doubts on that score

She does not look entirely convinced by this.

Gwyneth is engaged in a clean-up operation . . .

In number 10, Gwyneth is equipped with various cleaning materials,

. . . removing all traces

with which she is removing any trace of her presence in the house.

She looks at Jaclyn's phone . . .

Then Jaclyn’s phone, which she has in her pocket, sounds;

. . . to see that Dylan is on his way . . .

Dylan is on his way, and Gwyneth begins to panic.

. . . and disposes of the phone

She puts the phone into the dishwasher and turns it on,

She removes tha gag

takes the gag from the motionless figure of Jaclyn

Is she actually horrified by what she has done?

and appears quite horrified at what she has done.

"I'm not doing any more shots"

Mark has decided, “I’m not doing any more shots – I’m telling you now,” but then Brynmor comes into the room, carrying a box.

“Before we do anything else, I want to make another speech,” he announces, and when Kath asks what he has there,

"It's a box"

replies, “A box.   You’ll see now – right, a bit of hush, if you please.

"I've never felt so much love"

“On behalf of my wife and myself, I’d like to thank you all for coming.   Although we wanted a very small wedding, I’ve never been in a room and felt so much love.

"You're all very important to us"

“You’re all very important to us, and I’d like to show my appreciation.”

"What's he up to now?"

He removes the lid from the box;  “Kath, my patient wife – when you’re ready, we’re both going on another cruise – and not just any cruise,” he says,

She is presented with a cruise brochure

presenting her with a brochure.

"It's not the Queen Mary II, is it?"

“Brynmor – it’s not the Queen Mary II, is it?” she gasps, and he continues that after seeing her walk earlier on, it will not be long before they pack their bags.

Brynmor gives Ricky a car

“Now then, Ricky – I’m grateful that you made the effort to turn up, and as you’re starting your career as a nurse before long, I thought you deserved a proper car, so you can drive to work.”

"I can't accept that, Brynmor"

He hands some car keys to a very surprised Ricky, who insists he cannot accept a car from Brynmor, and Kath wants to know what is going on.

Brynmor informs him that the car is outside if he wants to see it, and Ricky wastes no time in doing so.   “Brynmor, how have you had the time to organise all this?” Kath demands,

"How do you know Ricky?"

“And how do you know Ricky?   Oh, I’m going to have to keep my eye on this one!”

Dylan approaches number 10 . . .

Dylan hurries along the street to number 10,

. . . and bangs on the door

but his knocking on the door goes unanswered.   “Jacs, it’s me,” he shouts,

Gwyneth stands quietly

as Gwyneth stands, waiting.

"Open the door, please!"

“Sorry I’m late – open the door, please,” he goes on, but there is still no response.

He looks up at the house

He looks up at the upstairs windows.

“Do you get it now?” asks Brynmor, and Kath is amazed that he knew that Ricky was coming and has been phoning him.

"The car's amazing!"

Ricky comes back in and does not know what to say, as the car is amazing.

"Don't you go speeding in it, mind!"

Brynmor is glad that he likes it, but he is warned by Kath not to go speeding in it.

"Cass, my faithful best man"

Then Brynmor continues with his speech;  “Cass, my faithful best man,”

A picture of a donkey . . .

and he presents her with a picture of a seaside donkey, which she describes as very tasteful, just like Blackpool.

. . . the significance of which is lost on us

Then she explains that it is a joke between them,

"That's between the two of you"

but Kath does not want to know, as it is between the two of them.

He apologises profusely to Andrea

“Andrea, please forgive me, I didn’t know you were coming, says Brynmor, then he comes to Mark,

Mark is not too steady on his feet

who rises unsteadily from his chair and is handed a box,

A valuable Rolex watch

containing a Rolex watch, which was Berwyn’s.

"I can't accept this, Brynmor"

“I can’t accept this,” Mark replies, but Brynmor says that of course he can,

"I want to keep it in the family"

and he wants to keep the watch in the family.   “Well, I promise to look after it,” Mark tells him.

"I'll be changing my name today . . ."

Reaching the end of his speech, Brynmor announces, “So that you all know, I’ll be changing my name today.

". . . from now on I'll be Brynmor Jones"

“I can’t think of anything better than being an official member of the Joneses.   So, from now on I’ll be Brynmor Jones.”

Kath is delighted

Kath is ecstatic to hear this,

"To Kath and Brynmor Jones!"

as Mark proposes a toast, “To Kath and Brynmor Jones!”

"Hywel's not here at the moment"

Cai has now visited Llwyncelyn, but Hywel is not there at the moment, and Gaynor is not sure how long he will be.   Cai says that he should have phoned before turning up;

"I wondered if he fancied a pint"

“I just wondered if he fancied a pint, that’s all,”

Gaynor finds that strange

and she regards that with some scepticism.

“I’m trying to make an effort – a fresh start,” he tells her,

"You can have a glass of wine with me"

she replies that he is welcome to have a glass of wine with her, if he wants to stay.

"Yes, why not?"

“Yes, why not?” says Cai, “I haven’t had a chance to talk to you properly since I’ve been back – I wanted to sympathise.   I was sorry to hear about Izzy – you’ve had a hard time.”

"Things haven't been great for you"

She agrees, but now wants to move on;  “I heard things haven’t been great for you since you came back.”

"Half the village saw my pants in the High Street!"

He recalls that half the village saw his pants in the High Street, and repeats that he wants to make a fresh start when the school term starts.

"So you have a wild summer ahead of you?"

She imagines that in that case, he has a wild summer in front of him,

Cai appears to have an ulterior motive

and he appears to be using this opportunity to get at Hywel.

Hywel apologises for missing the vote

In the Deri, Hywel has been joined by Nerys;  “I wanted to check how you were after the vote,” and he is sorry about that.

"If you had been there . . ."

“We were one vote short – if you had been there . . . sorry, I don’t want to make you feel worse about it.   I know you’ve got a lot on your plate – it takes a strong man to put his wife’s needs before his own.”

"It won't change the result of the vote, will it?"

“But that won’t change the result of the vote, will it?” he growls, “And Griffiths has been rubbing salt into the wound – I’m sure Cwrtmynach will be full of second homes before we turn around.”

"I heard about Gaynor and the stealing"

“It wasn’t just the vote that made me worry about you – I heard about Gaynor and the stealing,” Nerys continues, and Hywel replies that things have been difficult, but not financially.

"It's just a response to the grief"

After Izzy’s death, he is sure that the stealing is just a response to the grief.

“Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help,” she adds,

"For her – and of course – for you"

“For her – and, of course, for you.   We can go somewhere more private if you want – “I’ve got an empty house tonight – you know where I live, don’t you?”

"No-one could miss that house"

Hywel laughs that he does not imagine anyone could miss that house,

"There's a bottle of champagne waiting for us"

and she continues, “There’s a nice bottle of champagne waiting for us.”   Uncharacteristically, Hywel turns down this blatant invitation,

"That's not the impression you gave me last time"

and she angrily stresses, “That’s not the impression you gave me last time – you didn’t stop your flirting!   But now the vote has happened, you’re not interested?   =

"Forget that software contract!"

“Forget about that software contract – I think I’ll stick with the same company.   Perhaps they are impersonal, but they do the job – they don’t pull out halfway!”

Hywel has 'blown it' this time

She gets up and walks out of the Deri, leaving Hywel to get used to the lost contract.

Gaynor is getting on well with Cai

At Llwyncelyn, Gaynor seems to be very happy in Cai’s company,

She almost phones Hywel

but then has second thoughts and picks up her phone;

"Is there any more wine?"

Cai asks if there is any more wine, and she abandons making the phone call.

Dylan can still get no reply

Dylan is banging insistently on the front door of number 10 and shouting, “Jacs!”

Things are getting cosy at Llwyncelyn

Cai asks Gaynor, “Do you like this shirt?” and they giggle childishly;

Hywel returns home

Hywel comes in to find them in this compromising position and Cai begins, “Look, I’m sorry . . .” but Hywel stops him, remarking that it is fine, and walks into the kitchen.

"I did try to phone you, Hywel"

Gaynor goes after him and maintains that she did try to phone him, but he is anxious to change the subject;

"Anyone want  cup of tea?"

“Does anyone want a cup of tea?”   Both Gaynor and Cai look confused.

Dylan heads round the back . . .

Dylan runs round to the back of a number 10 and goes in through the gate;

. . . looks around warily . . .

he looks around to make sure he is not being watched,

. . . then finds the back door unlocked

but discovers that the back door is unlocked.

He finds Jaclyn, lifeless . . .

He finds Jaclyn’s lifeless body still sitting in chair, with a post-it note on her forehead,

. . . with a note 'Welcome Back'

reading ‘Welcome back’

He feels for a pulse

and feels for a pulse.

"Jacs, Jacs, No!"

He cries, “Jacs, Jacs, No!”

He kisses her

and kisses her.

Gwyneth melts away into the darkness

Creeping out through the back gate, Gwyneth hears his shout of anguish, and hurries away along the street.
