The constabulary are still present |
The police are still on duty outside number 10;
"I hope they're not going total too long" |
“I hope they’re not going to take too long – when will we be able to park out the front again?” complains Jason to Anita, as they stand outside APD.
“Be quiet, will you? You’ve only had to park down the road,” says Anita, irritably.
DI Fielding approaches |
DI Fielding is approaching and wishes them good morning;
"We've had a shock" |
“We’ve had a shock,” Anita tells her, “It’s so sad to see what has happened to Jaclyn, isn’t it, Jason?”
“I understand that a member of APD’s staff owns the house – Mrs Pierce?” says the DI, and Anita confirms that she was Jaclyn’s landlord. “Are you free for a chat now?” the DI enquires,
"I've got an alibi" |
and Anita is quick to point out that she has an alibi, because she was with Jason and Kelly all night.
Jason very much doubts that she is suspected of committing the murder,
"I'm talking to everyone in the village" |
and it is stressed that the DI is just talking to everyone in the village. “We just want to ask you about security in the house,” so she is invited into APD.
"Have you been feeding the five thousand?" |
At Llwyncelyn, Gaynor has made breakfast, and Hywel comments, “What have you been doing? Feeding the five thousand? I didn’t hear you coming to bed last night – you must have fallen asleep immediately.”
"I didn't come up last night" |
She replies that she did not come up,
And here is the reason why |
and when Hywel turns round he can see the reason why that is; Cai is drinking a cup of coffee. Gaynor explains, “Cai is leaving now – aren’t you?”
"Text me if you find that sock" |
and he reminds her that if she finds his sock, she should send him a text.
"Seriously, Gaynor?" |
Hywel looks furious; “Seriously?” he demands, and she replies that she thought this was what they both wanted. “Freedom within the relationship, yes, Gaynor,
"He's here all the time, like an unpleasant lodger!" |
“but he’s here all the time, like some unpleasant lodger! Look, I don’t want to ruin your fun – our fun – but just seeing him here with you . . .”
"It won't happen again" – Yeah, pull the other one |
Gaynor tells him he need not say anything else – she understands; “Perhaps I’ve been very insensitive, having Cai here when you’re here. It won’t happen again, I promise.”
Hywel is not holding his breath on that |
Hywel does not look reassured.
"You're lucky!" |
“Oh, you’re lucky,” says Rhys, when he finds Tegwen having breakfast with Mathew, “I’ve never seen him make breakfast for any other girl. What about me?
"He won't even boil an egg for me" |
“He won’t even boil an egg for me.” Tegwen suggests that she might deserve it more than him, and now has to go.
"Remember we're going to Cai's later" |
“Don’t forget that we going to Cai’s later to watch the game,” Rhys reminds her, and this comes as news to Mathew. “He offered – Siôn and Iolo are out.”
"You and Cai are best mates now, then" |
Mathew is surprised that they seem to be best mates now, and Rhys is full of praise for him; “He’s a good bloke, Cai – he told me to bring a few boys over –
"I wasn't going to say no, was I?" |
“he’ll have a loads of beer, so I wasn’t going to say no, was I?”
Headline news in the Western Post |
In the Deri flat we see the headline on the Western Post; ‘Convict Brother Questioned over Sister’s Murder’.
"What have you told the kids?" |
“What have you told the kids?” Dani wants to know, “Seren’s crying – she wants to buy flowers for Gabriel to take to the funeral!”
"Nothing!" |
Dylan makes it clear that he has not said anything, and shows her the front page of the Western Post, which she forgot was there. Dylan found it with the board games where she had hidden it.
"Did you hide it from the children – or from me?" |
“Did you hide it from the children – or from me?” he demands, “It’s important for me to know what people think of me – what people are saying. You haven’t heard anything, because you’ve been here with me all day.
“People obviously think that I killed Jacs. Even you think that, at some level.”
"Wy are you so jumpy around me?" |
Dani insists that is not true, so he asks, “Why are you so jumpy around me, then? Why do you follow me around? You won’t let me spend time with the children on my own. I would never have let anything like that . . . Jacs was everything to me, and I should never have let anything like that happen to her.”
"And now my sister's gone" |
He takes a deep breath before continuing, “And now my sister’s gone.”
Cai just cannot stay away |
Gaynor is carrying two glasses of wine, because Cai is back again; “I wasn’t expecting to be back here so soon,” he says,
"Don't worry – Hywel's not here" |
and she reassures him that Hywel is not there.
“I can’t come over when Mr Llywelyn is here any more?” he enquires, and she points out that it is easier when he is not there.
Esther is back from Llangrannog early |
The front door opens, and Esther walks in unexpectedly, looking very different from the last time we saw her.
"What are you doing home?" |
Gaynor wonders what she is doing home
"Ellis' mother gave me a lift" |
and is told, “Ellis’ mother gave me a lift!” Although Gaynor maintains that it is lovely to see her, it does rather interfere with her plans. She asks if Esther had fun in Llangrannog, which she clearly did,
"This is Mr Rossiter" |
and introduces her to Mr Rossiter, who is starting at Ysgol y Mynach in September.
“Do you want to go upstairs to your room to unpack and relax?” Gaynor suggests, “I’ll call you when food is ready.” When the child has gone upstairs,
"Should I leave?" |
Cai wonders if he should leave,
"No, it's fine" |
but is told that it is fine, and Gaynor starts drinking wine.
Jason brings coffees to the camper van |
As Jason brings out two coffees, Kelly is sitting in the back of the camper van on the phone; “But true crime isn’t my strength – I’m more lifestyle and people’s personal lives and stuff. Don’t make me go all serial . . .
She reluctantly agrees |
“OK, I’ll see what I can do.”
"They want me to write an article on Jaclyn's murder!" |
When she is handed the coffee, she grumbles, “I’m going to need this because, you know what? The Western Post has asked me to use my local contacts to write an article about Jaclyn’s murder. I know – taking advantage or what? I hate that side of journalism, Jase.”
"What you need is a break, Kelly" |
“You know what you need,” he replies, “A break – so the idea of going away with me in the van doesn’t sound so bad now, does it?” She concedes that it was actually really cosy with the doors closed –
"Small, but cosy all the same" |
“small, but cosy all the same.
He is pleased that she is coming round to the idea, but she adds, “Perhaps – you, me, driving away somewhere, so the Western Post can’t track me down.
"We have to do something about the décor" |
“But, Jason, we’re going to have to do something about the décor – because its ‘minging’!”
Hywel visits his house . . . |
At number 21 Hywel has come to visit his house, just as Britt and Colin sit down to enjoy Jaclyn’s Lamb Burgers,
. . . as Britt and Colin eat leftover Lamb Burgers |
which Colin explains are leftovers from the Deri.
“Look, I won’t keep you long – I just want to discuss the house. I take it that you enjoy living here,” Hywel tells them,
"It's very comfortable and convenient" |
and they agree that it is very comfortable and convenient. “Well, if you’re not thinking about moving out,
"Perhaps we can discuss the rent" |
“perhaps we can discuss the rent,” Hywel continues, “I’m not going to charge you for the time you’ve been here – I’m just glad I could help you out – but if you’re staying, we might as well make it official.”
"'Mate's Rates' is it?" |
Britt assumes that it will be ‘Mates Rates’,
"I won't charge you more than Wilko" |
and he will send her the agreement he had with Wilko, so they can see he is not increasing the price. They will contact him after they have seen the paperwork, and he leaves them to enjoy their food.
They will have half a Lamb Burger each |
They look at the two Lamb Burgers and realise that some economising has to be done, so will keep one of them for tea, and Britt sets about tearing the other one in half.
They are actually talking 'shop' |
“I had forgotten how much preparation work there was,” Cai complains; then the door opens and Hywel walks in.
"What's he doing here?" |
“What’s he doing here?’ he snarls, “I thought we’d agreed!” Gaynor points out that the agreement was not to have Cai there when Hywel was home.
"A free licence to 'go at it' again?" |
“So when I go out, that gives you free licence to ‘go at it’ again?” Hywel rages.
"It's nice to have company and a chat" |
Gaynor replies that sometimes it is nice to have company and a chat.
"I bet he's very interesting to talk to!" |
“Oh yeah – I bet he’s very interesting to talk to! Right, I want you out, now!” and Cai immediately complies with his instruction,
"The moment has passed anyway, Gaynor" |
remarking that the moment has passed anyway.
"Is Mr Rossiter leaving?" |
As he goes out of the front door, Esther comes downstairs; “Is Mr Rossiter leaving?” she asks,
"How long have you been up there?" |
and Hywel wonders how long she has been upstairs.
Colin has asked Eileen to call |
Colin is in the chip shop flat, sealing up parcels to be returned when Eileen comes upstairs; “People will start talking, us meeting up here,” she says,
"I'm trying to sort things out" |
and Colin thanks her for coming, also apologising for the mess.
“I’m trying to sort things out – I wanted to ask you, to be honest, if I could have more shifts in the shop.
"I've got a bit of a cash flow problem" |
“I’ve got a bit of a cash flow problem at the moment.”
"I'll see if I can work something out" |
Eileen will have a look at the rota to see what she can work out, and praises him as good man, helping so many people out. “Britt does her part as well,” he goes on, “And I’m sure she’ll want a chat with you about more shifts in Penrhewl as well.”
"She won't get any shifts!" |
Eileen is quite emphatic, “She won’t get any shifts!”
"You didn't know, did you?" |
and then realises that Colin does not know; he looks very confused.
The game has an exciting finish |
At Y Felin, Tegwen and Rhys are watching the game on the television when Sioned walks in, and is told that she is too late – the game is now over.
"That's exactly why I'm here now" |
“That’s exactly why I’m getting here now,” she tells them, “No-one talks when the game is on – where is everyone?”
"Math's gone to get more cans" |
She is told that Math has gone to get more cans and Cai is FaceTiming the kids.
“He was so angry when his ex-wife phoned during the game!” says Tegwen, and Rhys believes she did it on purpose to wind him up. Sioned is introduced to Math’s girlfriend.
"That's how you introduce me , is it?" |
Tegwen demands, “That’s how you introduce me, is it – Math’s girlfriend?” He says that he wanted to be sure there was no misinterpretation.
"Me – with you? In your dreams, mate!" |
Tegwen tells Rhys, “What – that I’m with you? In your dreams, mate!”
Sioned has brought some wine |
Sioned by this time is feeling rather superfluous; she has brought over some red wine,
"I think I'll stick with lager" |
but Tegwen says she will stick with lager.
"I have to go to a darts game" |
Rhys has to go as there is a darts game with the work gang, but he will be back later.
Sioned feels awkward |
This leaves the rather awkward situation with only Tegwen and Sioned there,
"I'm sure Mathew won't be long" |
which neither of them look very happy about.
Dylan again looks at the note |
Once again Dylan is looking at the piece of paper, as Dani shouts to the children. “Hurry up, or the ice cream van will have left the park.”
"Yes, we're all going" |
He asks if they are all going, and Dani confirms that they are.
"Does Gabriel have to go?" |
“Does Gabriel have to go?” Dylan wonders, and is told that he enjoys the park. “I just thought it would be nice to spend some time with him,”
"Well, come with us, then" |
and Dani suggests that Dylan should come with them.
“I can’t,” he replies, and after a moment’s thought,
Dani agrees to leave Gabriel there . . . |
Dani acquiesces to his wishes and will leave Gabriel there with his father, maintaining that she trusts Dylan,
. . . which makes Dylan smile |
who then smiles.
"I'm going to give the camper a makeover" |
Eileen delivers a hamper to Bryntirion, where Kelly is making a mood board, explaining, “I’m going to give the camper a makeover.”
The hamper is for a competition |
Eileen considers that the existing colours are nice and neutral; obviously Kelly does not share this opinion.
The hamper is Cae Glas’ entry for the food section competition; “There’s a sample of everything we do here,” Eileen tells her, and Kelly will take it to the judges tomorrow.
"Could you put a good word in for Cae Glas?" |
“Listen, Kelly – do you think you could put a good word in for Cae Glas?”
"No, we must stay impartial" |
but Kelly regrets that she cannot do that, as the Western Post is very serious about them staying impartial.
“Actually, you worked with Jaclyn, didn’t you?” Kelly adds, and is informed that she made some of the chutneys in that hamper.
"You don't fancy going on the record, do you?" |
“You don’t fancy going on the record, do you? Because the Western Post has asked me to interview people who were close to her.”
"No, I don't think so . . ." |
“No, I don’t think so – it’s still fresh in my mind, and I only went through everything with the DI this morning.
". . . i=unless you think it will help me with this prize!" |
“Unless you think it will help me with the prize!” but this idea is ‘nipped in the bud’ by Kelly.
"I'm sure you'll find someone else" |
“I’m sure you’ll find someone else,” says Eileen, as she hurriedly leaves.
"Rhys wants to now if the party is still going" |
As they sit round the table at Y Felin, Mathew has just received a text from Rhys, asking if the party is still going,
"It's not much of a party" |
but Sioned comments, “It’s not much of a party when the host has been upstairs the whole time.”
"I'll tell him not to bother" |
Mathew will tell him not to bother, and Tegwen considers they had better go home early, as she does not want a hangover at work tomorrow.
Mathew complains that she is always working; “I have to book time with her in advance.”
"I shall be working tomorrow" |
Sioned says that she is also working tomorrow, on the farm. Mathew saw DJ yesterday and has arranged to meet him for a pint soon; he says that Sioned is welcome to come.
"I'm DJ's 'plus one' now, am I?" |
“Oh, so I’m DJ’s ‘plus one’ now, am I?” she demands, and Mathew proposes that they should arrange a double date; “Great – I’ll let you arrange it with DJ,” Sioned tells him, and leaves the house.
"She doesn't remember who I am, does she?" |
“She doesn’t remember who I am, does she?” realises Tegwen, but Mathew maintains that people never forget their school friends. She makes it very clear, “Sioned Rees didn’t have any friends at school.”
Mathew says that she has changed since then, and is great when you get to know her. Tegwen is not convinced of this, and they shout upstairs to Cai that they are going.
Out of date pot noodles for dinner |
Colin makes some pot noodles (with reduced price labels on them) and Britt comes in, describing how busy it was in the Deri today;
"I had to help Cassie behind the bar" |
“I had to help Cassie behind the bar at one point.”
"Before or after your shift at Penrhewl?" |
Colin enquires whether that was before or after her shift at Penrhewl; “The Deri today – Penrhewl tomorrow – keep up, Col, will you?” she replies, “Is that all we’re having for dinner?”
"That's all we can afford" |
He informs her that is all they can afford, so she will go next door to the Deri to get some chips.
"How long are you going to keep on lying?" |
“How long are you going to carry on lying?” Colin demands, “I know you walked out of Penrhewl – why didn’t you tell me?”
"You;ve got enough on your plate, Col" |
She says that she did not want him to worry, because he has enough on his plate as it is.
"There's nothing on my plate tonight" |
“There’s nothing on my plate tonight, is there?” and they both regard it as a joke.
They laugh about it |
“You know what? This is us at our best, isn’t it?” he says, “You and me together, honest and laughing –
"We need every penny" |
“but look, we need every penny possible if we’re going to drag ourselves out of this pit – this hole. And we can’t do that by lying, can we?”
Britt promises not going to hide anything from him any more,
She goes to the Deri for some chips |
and will go next door to get some chips.
"Is that for me or that tomcat?" |
Gaynor is laying the table for a meal; “Who are you cooking for, then? For me or that tomcat?” Hywel growls, and she apologises for this afternoon.
"What were you thinking, Gaynor?" |
“What were you thinking? I could never have done that with my little girl upstairs.”
Gaynor remarks that it would have been nice if her father had been here to welcome her home;
"There was no 'carrying on'!" |
“And anyway, there was no ‘carrying on’ going on. I was having a glass of wine with a friend.”
"Who knows what might have happened?" |
“If I hadn’t got home when I did, who knows what would have happened?” he moans,
"Yeah – the Welsh Scrabble would have come out" |
and she mutters that in another five minutes, the olives and the Welsh Scrabble would have come out.
"Do you want a relationship with him?" |
Hywel shakes his head; “Do you want a relationship with him? Is that what this is?”
"I'm just enjoying myself, Hywel" |
She replies that she is just enjoying herself, which is what they agreed to do.
“We agreed to do this to save our relationship, not to destroy it!” he insists,
Remember, Hywel – this is Gaynor's house, not yours |
“I don’t want you you to invite Cai Rossiter here ever again! Do you understand?”
