Tegwen is heading towards the shop flat

Tegwen walks across the road and into the alley, where Rhys is speaking on the phone;  

Rhys is on the phone

“I’m living with one of the owners, as it happens,” he says, and Tegwen goes upstairs to the flat.   “Well, that’s very generous – 

"I'll have a word in his ear tonight"

“I’ll have a word in his ear tonight and I’ll be in touch.   Leave it with me,” Rhys continues, and looks very pleased with himself.

Rhys is still in his pyjamas

In the shop flat, Tegwen calls for Mathew and he appears in his dressing down;  “Rhys let me in – sorry I should have texted,” she tells him.   

"What are you doing here?"

He explains that he was about to have a shower and wonders why she is there.

"Would you mind If I chilled here"

“This might be a bit weird, but would you mind if I chilled and had a nap here while you’re working?” she asks, “I’ve just finished a night shift at Brynawelon, and I’ll get no peace at home.   I brought these.”   

When he sees she has breakfast, he agrees that of course she can stay there.

"I might be coming down with something"

“You know what?   I might be coming down with something,” he maintains, “I might have to text Jason to say I’m too ill to work today.”   

"You'll have to stay home, then"

Tegwen laughs at this excuse, and he comes to the conclusion that he will have to stay home

Kelly now has something else

At Bryntirion, Jason and Anita are getting ready to go to work when Kelly comes in through the back door, carrying another item of artwork.   

"Introducing Zara!"

“Introducing Zara – isn’t she amazing, stunning?”

Anita replies that she thinks she is glad to be moving out of there;  “It’s getting more like Bristol Zoo every day!”   

"And there's a new rug as well"

Jason is also looking somewhat askance at the creature, and also notices that the rug is new as well.

“Late night purchase – I forgot to tell you,” says Kelly, and in response to his quizzical expression, 

"I can't help that I have a personality"

goes on, “Right, I can’t help that I have a personality, and I just want to express it, OK?”   

"Ifan will love that giraffe"

Jason is sure that Ifan will love that giraffe, whereupon she enlightens him that it is a zebra.   He also describes the rug as absolutely beautiful.

Kelly is worried that it is rather boring, 

"It's important to have a balance"

but he points out that it is important to have a balance.   

"You're as bad as each other!"

Anita has had enough of this, and calls them as bad as each other;  she is going to work.

“Well, I love our safari theme – our very own jungle-inspired lounge,” enthuses Kelly.   

Tomato ketchup on the new rug

As Jason picks up his breakfast roll to take a first bite, some ketchup spills out of it and lands, of course, on the new rug.   

"Right, I have to go, Jase"

Fortunately this is not noticed by Kelly before she also leaves, and he is anxious that it should be cleaned up as soon as possible.

Clumsy Jason sends his coffee flying . . .

However, in his haste, he knocks over his cup of coffee on the rug as well, 

. . . and is in a state of panic

which causes him some consternation.

"I want to cancel it"

Colin is speaking on the phone;  “Yes, I want to cancel it, please – no, I understand that.   

"You see, we can't afford it"

“You see, we can’t afford it – that’s the one – the one with the engraving of her brother’s face.”

He pretends it is a marketing call

Suddenly Britt comes downstairs, and he pretends that it is an unsolicited call;  “How many times do I have to tell you?   We don’t want double glazing or insulation!”   Britt has put on her coat, and he asks if she is looking forward to starting her new job.

"I'd rather stick pins in my eyes, Col!"

“I’d rather stick pins in my eyes!” she snarls, as she marches out of the house.

After their morning 'workout'

“Well, that was a good morning!” Mathew exclaims, as he and Tegwen return from the bedroom.   By this time she is starving, 

"If you want some me time – or some us time . . ."

and Mathew assures her, “Any time you want some me time – or some us time – come over!”

"It's so nice to escape from the madhouse"

She replies, “It’s so nice to escape from the madhouse – my younger sister babysits Ken when I work night shifts, but she brings her own kids and it’s like a circus.”   

"Could Ken's father help out?"

Mathew wonders if Ken’s father could help out, and by her expression, presumes that he has died.   

“No, nothing like that,” she answers, 

"I'd rather not talk about him"

“I’d rather not talk about him, if that’s all right.”   They settle down to watch some TV, but Mathew does look rather puzzled.

"You're half an hour late"

Britt arrives at Penrhewl, where she is reprimanded for being late;  Well, I’m here now,” she casually comments.   

Britt issues instructions

Eileen has a lot to do today, and gives the instruction that Britt has to sterilise the jars, which is very important, and then fill them with different chutneys.   All the details are on a spreadsheet, which must be followed exactly.

Britt giggles, and is informed that there is apple chutney, plum chutney, pickled beetroot chutney.   

"That looks like cat vomit!"

“What’s that?   It looks like cat vomit!” demands Britt.

"That is piccalilli"

She is told that it is piccalilli;  “Cauliflower, mustard, fennel,” and Britt admits she was only joking, and does know what piccalilli is;  she also knows how to sterilise jars.

"Keep your knickers on, Eileen!"

“Keep your knickers on, Eileen – you should be glad I’m here,” Britt insists, but Eileen is not so sure.   

"You can go and muck out, or whatever"

“I’ll do this, and you can go and muck out, or whatever you’ve got to do that’s so important.”   

"There's a cake in the oven"

Eileen’s final instruction is that there is a cake in the oven which has to be taken out in an hour.   (It is obvious what will happen to that.)   

Britt gets her priorities in order

The first thing Britt does is to get the kettle to make herself a cup of tea.

They are exhausted after their activity

Both Tegwen and Mathew have fallen asleep in front of the television;  when they wake, 

"What happened to the gargoyles?"

Tegwen demands, “What happened to the gargoyles after they attacked the space centre?” but Mathew cannot help there.

"About the scars on my chest . . ."

“Listen,” he says, “About the scars on my chest.”   She replies that he does not have to talk about it, as she knows the story, which was in the papers, 

"I didn't want you to feel uncomfortable"

but she did not want him to feel uncomfortable.   

"I want us to talk about everything"

“I might be a bit old-fashioned, I don’t know, but I want us to be able to talk about everything together.   There’s no rush – when the time is right.”   

"How would you feel about meeting Ken?"

Tegwen describes him as really lush;  “How would you feel about meeting Ken?” she enquires, “He’s hard to please – he put salt in my last boyfriend’s tea, and Polyfilla on his toothbrush,” 

"I'm joking – again"

then reveals that she is joking – again.   “The truth is, I’ve never introduced him to anyone – I don’t want to mess with his head – not until I’m sure – and now . . .”

"I'll be there!"

Mathew invites her to say where and when and he will be there.

"It will do me good to move back to number 10"

At APD, Anita tells Jason, “The thing is, it will do me good to move back to number 10 – because it’s my home, and I’m sure that you and Kelly have had enough of me being under your feet.”

"You're not going to Timbuktu!"

Jason, who is engrossed in the laptop, points out that she is only going across the road, not to Timbuktu;  

"I won't miss you sticking your nose in"

she attempts to see what he is doing on the laptop, but he is obstructive.   “I won’t miss you sticking your nose in,” he says, turning the laptop round, but she just wants to know.

"You'd go straight to Kelly and tell her!"

“I know you too well – you’d go straight to Kelly and tell her – so no!” he snaps, 

"I won't say a word, Jason"

so she realises he is hiding something, and insists that he can tell her – promising she will not say a word.   

Jason's lips are sealed

Jason is determined to say nothing.

Eileen is greeted by a scene of devastation . . .

When Eileen returns from her duties around the farm, she finds the kitchen in a state of disarray, 

. . . with chutney spilt everywhere . . .

with half-filled jars and chutney spilled on the table and the spreadsheet.

. . . and Britt watching television

Britt is sitting on the sofa in front of the television and chuckling;  then Eileen realises that the cake is still in the oven, 

Yes — that cake is reduced to a blackened shell

and, as predicted, finds that it is simply a blackened lump.   Britt mutters, “Sorry – oops that.”

"The bank have agreed the loan"

DJ comes into the Deri and is informed by Sioned, “Please don’t be angry, but they’ve agreed – the bank – they’ve agreed the loan!”   

"We agreed we wouldn't do that"

He protests that they agreed they were not going to do that, but she is adamant that they will be careful with the money, and that he should not worry.

“You went behind my back, after everything we said – you deceived me!” he stresses, 

"If you insist on throwing cold water on everything . . ."

but she grumbles that if he insists on throwing cold water on everything, he can carry on.

"It's up to you if you want to join me"

She is going to the bar to get a bottle of champagne to celebrate;  “It’s up to you whether you want to join me.”   

"Champagne – and one glass, please, Cassie"

She goes to the bar and asks Cassie for champagne – and one glass.   

DJ is not happy

DJ is not at all happy about this.

"I didn't know you were such a swot"

“Well, Rhys Llywelyn, I must admit, I didn’t know you were such a swot” says Mathew, 

"I'll be a registered estate agent before you can turn round"

and Rhys is confident that he will be a registered estate agent before you can turn round.   “You worked hard for that assessment,” Mathew continues, as the Prosecco is poured into his mug.

"Enjoy the Netflix and chill with Tegwen?"

“Things are looking up for you as well, from what I see,” Rhys replies, “I assume you enjoyed the Netflix and chill with Tegwen.”   Mathew says that she is great – and she loves sci-fi as well.

"Lucky I bought two bottles"

“It’s lucky I bought two bottles – we’ve got celebrating to do,” exclaims Rhys, “Me passing my assessment, and you’ve finally found a woman who likes sci-fi!”

Jason appears to have sight problems

At APD, Jason is reading off his credit card number;  “Eight, nine, two, six,” 

Nosy Anita is on the warpath

and Anita is very inquisitive as to what he is buying.   He goes outside for the final digits, “six, six, six, seven.   

"This will make her a very happy woman!"

“No, she’s got no idea – this will make her a very happy woman!”

Anita is listening to all this as she pretends to be looking for stock;  “Did that go through, then?” he asks, “Good – they’re not cheap, are they?   I can tell you it’s going to be worth every penny, so thank you.”   

Anita is jumping to conclusions

Anita thinks she has a very good idea of what is going on.

Colin is very 'down'

In the Deri, Colin is looking very depressed, 

"Smile, for goodness' sake"

and Cassie comments, “Smile, for goodness’ sake – it might never happen.   He wonders when was the last time she heard from Garry, 

"Garry's not answering my calls"

as he is not answering Colin’s calls.

“That’s what he’s like – I think he only switches on his phone when he wants to phone someone.”   

"Do you have any spare flour?"

Eileen comes in to ask Cassie if she has any spare flour;  she wants to make a Victoria sponge for Jaclyn’s afternoon tea.

"I've had a disaster!"

“I’ve had a disaster, and there is none left in the shop,” she says and then notices her daughter, drinking champagne – and now DJ has joined her.

"Life is good at the moment!"

“We’re celebrating — life is good at the moment,” Sioned tells her,  

Eileen is not impressed

but Eileen is not impressed.   

"How did it go, Eileen?"

Colin approaches her to ask how it went.   

Eileen's face says it all

Eileen’s expression betrays the answer.

"I can't go to work hungover"

Mathew refuses any more Prosecco, arguing that he cannot go to work hungover tomorrow, after calling in sick today.   

"You're the boss – you can do what you like"

Rhys maintains that he is the boss at APD, so can do what he likes, so the mug is topped up again.

"How are things going at APD?"

“How are things going at APD?” Rhys asks, “I’m just checking that my best friend’s business is all right.”   

"I thought DJ was your best friend"

Mathew was under the impression that DJ was his best friend.   “I’ve got an exciting offer for you,” Rhys continues, and Mathew wants to know what all this is leading up to.

"You know the developers who bought Seilo Chapel?"

You know the developers who have bought Seilo Chapel in Cwrtmynach?   They’re looking for local contractors to do the work.   They’re very ethical, fair play.”

"You're sounding like your father now"

Mathew laughs, “You’re sounding like your father now – very ethical,” but Rhys insists he is trying to help his friend.   

"It would be a good contract for APD"

“It would be a good contract for APD – luxury flats – it would give you a lot of attention as a company.   You’ve definitely got a chance!”   

"And what are you getting out of this?"

Mathew wonders what Rhys is getting out of this.   

"Praise from the developers"

“Praise from the developers, because they’ve asked me to help them find a building company that will sign up to develop Seilo . . . and Bethania.”

"Bethania's not for sale"

It is pointed out that Bethania is not for sale;  “No, not yet, but – this is hush-hush, OK?   

"They want to turn it into a wine bar"

“They want to turn it into a wine bar.”   Mathew is surprised by this, and Rhys goes on, “They want to do everything properly – get the people of Cwmderi on board first, contract local companies – what do you say?”

Mathew is torn between two opinions

Mathew does not know the answer to that, and it is emphasised that there would be much more socialising at Bethania if it were a wine bar, and with the two chapels, 

"The contract would be close to a million"

the contract for APD would probably be worth close to a million.

“You and Tegwen would be drinking champers on tap for life – it’s a no-brainer, if you ask me!”   

Mathew is very torn

Mathew is still noncommittal.

Cassie gives Eileen a bag of flour

Cassie has found a bag of self raising flour, as Colin apologises for Britt’s behaviour, assuring her that it will not happen again.   

"She's more trouble than she's worth!"

Eileen reluctantly tells him, “I can’t take her back – she’s more trouble than she’s worth.”

"You can't sack her, Eileen"

“Hold the boat – you can’t sack her!” he protests, but she points out that she can do what she likes.   He begs, “Look, between you and me, she hasn’t been very well lately – 

"The last few months have been awful!"

“she’s back on her tablets now, but the last few months have been awful – truly awful!   And then this business with Aaron – and I’m not sure if the insurance company will pay out for the flat and the shop.   We’re in so much trouble, I don’t think I can cope with everything that’s going on!”

"You must persuade her to take the job seriously"

Eileen tells him that he must persuade Britt to take the job seriously, and he agrees that he will have a word with her.   

"Look after yourself, Col"

She hopes that he will look after himself and leaves with her bag of flour.

Now there are two of the zebras

Anita returns home to Bryntirion as Kelly appears to have acquired another of the long, thin zebras.   

"Sit down, Kelly – I've got some news"

As Jason is not there, Anita tells Kelly to sit down because she has some news.

"If I was in your position, I'd want to know"

“I’ve been deliberating whether I should tell you – but if I was in your position I’d want to know, so I’m going to tell you,” she says, very breathlessly.

Kelly demands, “What’s up?   Auntie Neet!”

"He's going to ask you to marry him"

“But you have to pretend you don’t know anything,” Anita goes on, “He’s going to ask you to marry him – Jason’s going to propose!”

"Marriage is genuinely not on the cards!"

Kelly’s terse answer is, “No – you’ve got the wrong end of the stick.   We’ve already discussed it and marriage genuinely isn’t on the cards.”

"I heard it with my own ears, all right?"

Undeterred, Anita ploughs on, “I heard it with my own ears, all right –he’s spent a fortune on the ring.   I’m so happy for you!”

"I don't want to get married!"

“I don’t want to get married,” stresses Kelly, “I absolutely don’t!” which Anita finds unbelievable.   “I love Jason to the moon and back, but I'd rather drop the dead than wear a wedding dress again and say, ‘I do,’ all over again – no.”

It is Anita’s opinion that she cannot say no, but Kelly disagrees vehemently;  

"Jason will be heartbroken!"

“Jason will be heartbroken!” exclaims Anita, but she is accused of overreacting.   “If you say no, who knows what it will do to your relationship?” Anita drones on.

"I'm 100% not going to marry Jason!"

Kelly makes it crystal clear, “Well, I’m 100% not going to marry Jason – so stop with the emotional blackmail!”   

"Well, don't come running to me!"

Anita growls, “This is your problem – don’t come running to me and say I didn’t warn you, OK?” and she storms off upstairs, 

Kelly dusts her zebra

as Kelly dusts her zebra.

Rhys is clearing up

Rhys is clearing away the bottle and mugs;  then he is about to make a phone call 

"Hawaiian or Pepperoni?"

when Mathew asks whether he wants Hawaiian or Pepperoni pizza, and leaves to get them.

"Good evening . . ."

Taking out his phone once again, Rhys says, “Hello, good evening – 

". . . yes, he's pretty much on board"

“yes, he’s more or less on board.”
