Garry is going to the Deri

Garry is preparing to go to the Deri when his phone sounds

He appears to have an online date

and he sees that it is a ‘Silver Seniors’ message from Andrea (Mark’s ‘date’ some time ago).   He looks quite pleased about this and puts the phone in his pocket, then leaves the flat.

Brynmor is studying a pocket watch

Outside the garage, Brynmor is looking carefully at a pocket watch;

"Have you got a problem?"

when Wilko comes out of his house, he asks if there is a problem.   “On your way to the Deri, are you?” says Brynmor, and the DI replies that he is going for a jog.

"The little birds tell me you're interested in Dani"

“The little birds in Cwmderi tell me you’re interested in Dani,” Brynmor continues.

“I should have known there would be no secrets in a village like this,” the DI groans,

"It's nice to find a connection"

“It’s nice to find a connection with someone when you’re somewhere new.”

Brynmor remarks that it is even better when you find something more than a connection;

"LIfe's too short, Marc"

“Life is too short not to go after the things that make us happy, believe me, Marc.   Don’t take any notice of the rumours.”

"I've got some tools that could help"

Wilko regards that as good advice, adding that he has some tools which would work on that watch.   Brynmor is confident that he can get it to work.

Dani is on her way out of the Deri

Garry arrives at the Deri just as Dani is going out;  “Would you mind having Seren tonight?” he asks, adding, “Don’t you want to know why?”   She replies that it is none of her business,

"I've got a date!"

so he announces that he has a date, and Cassie is glad that he took her advice.

"You've been giving him dating advice?"

“You’ve been giving him dating advice?” laughs Dani, and Cassie points out that she merely recommended that he should go out and meet people.

"I told him to go on dating apps"

She also reveals that she told him to go on a dating apps, which causes a lot of mirth for Dani;

"Garry Monk on a dating app!"

“Garry Monk on a dating app!   Who would have thought?”

Garry tries to maintain that they actually met in a coffee shop,

"You're not in a situation to splash out!"

but Dani did not think that he was in a situation to splash out on expensive cappuccinos.   “I’ll bring Seren over about seven – I don’t want to be late for my date!” he emphasises.

They look at each other

As Dani walks out, he and Cassie look at each other.

Anita sees Siôn looking downcast

Anita happens to be passing the bookshop and sees Siôn sitting, looking depressed, inside.

"The sign says the shop is closed"

She goes in and asks if he is all right, as the sign indicates that the shop is closed;  he has forgotten to turn it round,

"You've got something on your mind"

and she realises that something is on his mind.

As he walks towards the sign on the door, his phone rings

He does not want to speak to Tesni

and he sees that it is a call from Tesni, which he does not want to answer;  Anita wonders why.

"It's awkward, Anita . . ."

He attempts to explain that things are awkward,

He suffers a panic attack

but collapses on the stairs with a panic attack.   Anita encourages him to breathe deeply.

"No, I'm not giving you money, Gwern!"

Out in the street, Dani is reprimanding Gwern, “I’m not giving you money to buy pop when we live above the Deri.”   Conveniently, Wilko is passing and tells Gwern to get himself something, and he will pay.

"Chips, doughnuts – now pop"

Dani thinks that is rather strange, recalling that it was chips, then doughnuts – and now pop – he is spoiling the boy.

"Gwern's a good boy"

Again Wilko insists that Gwern is a good boy and deserves it;  “I’m sure that Jaclyn is spoiling Gabriel – I’ve just seen them together.”

"You don't miss anything, do you?"

Dani realises that he does not miss anything, and points out that Jaclyn is the baby’s auntie.

"That family has caused you so many problems"

“It must be hard to trust her – that family has caused you so many problems,” he says, but she answers that trust has to start somewhere;

"Can I trust him to just choose one thing?"

she wonders if she can trust a child to choose just one thing in a shop, so she goes in to investigate.

Kelly is doing some research

Kelly has gone to Penrhewl to talk to Eileen, in her capacity as a school governor, and who is still not feeling not 100%;  “Can you keep this short, please, Kelly?   I haven’t got much energy today,” she says.

"What are the reasons to cut transport?"

“Yes, just a couple of quotes, that’s all,” Kelly replies, “What are the reasons for the decision to cut transport for children with special needs?”

"The school is implementing a policy"

Eileen answers that the school is implementing a policy,

"It must have come from somewhere"

but Kelly insists that it must have come from somewhere.

"How much money the school receives"

“Policies change, depending on how much money the school receives from the local authority,” Eileen explains, “And that is decided by higher authorities.”

"You mean the government"

Kelly takes this to mean the Government.   “The school and the governors can’t create more money – all we can do is spend what little money we receive in the most sensible way.”

"Transport for children with special needs isn't sensible?"

“So you’re saying that transport for children with special needs isn’t sensible?” Kelly demands, and Eileen repeats that the school is just implementing a policy;

Eileen does not want any more of this

she would like a break now.

“Cards on the table now –I know I’m here as a journalist, but I’m also here as a parent,” Kelly stresses, “What if something similar had happened to Huwi?   If you knew he needed something from the school, but ‘Unfortunately the policy has changed.’   Interesting, isn’t it?”

"Yes, and I'm tired, too"

Eileen brings this interview to an end, as she is feeling really tired;  Kelly sighs that she is, too, and leaves the farm.

Anita has got Siôn home to Y Felin

Anita has managed somehow to get Siôn back home to Y Felin and provided him with a strong cup of tea.   “There we are – things look better after having a cuppa!” she says.   As he sits, clutching a cushion, he does not look much better,

"Are you going to tell me what's bothering you?"

and she goes on, “Now, then, are you going to tell me what’s worrying you?   Siôn – come on – we’ve known each other long enough now to be able to share anything.   Have you and Tesni fallen out?”

He is reluctant to say anything, but merely points out that their relationship has moved on to the next step;

"Tesni wants to have a baby!"

“Tesni wants to have a baby!”

"A baby!   With you?"

Anita’s reaction is rather explosive;  “A baby!   With you?   That girl’s a gold-digger!

"This is another way of getting money out of you!"

“This is another way of getting money out of you!”

"That's not true, Anita"

He is quick to point out that is not correct;  “Anyway, that’s not the problem – I’m the problem.

"I've had a vasectomy!"

“I haven’t been honest with her – I’ve had a vasectomy!”

Anita ia speechless – for once

This seems to have temporarily silenced Anita.

Later, in the Deri, Dani informs Garry that Seren is now settled, so he can go on his date.

Garry's date is at the Deri

“I’m here,” he replies, and she realises that he is meeting his date there –

"Where your ex-wife and children live?"

in the building where his ex-wife and children live.

"Remember who owns this place, Dani!"

“Do I need to remind you who owns this place?” he asks.

“Oh, I see – you want to show off your assets – or are you trying to make me feel jealous?

"Either way, it's pathetic!"

“Either way, it’s pathetic!” Dani snarls.

Andrea arrives

Then the door opens and in walks Andrea, who introduces herself to Garry.

"I'm Dani, his ex-wife"

Dani immediately interrupts, “I’m Dani, his ex-wife,” which turns the situation rather awkward.

"I didn't think it was relevant"

“I didn’t think it was relevant to our relationship – that’s why I never told you,” Siôn explains, but that is not what is worrying Anita.

"She deserves to know the truth"

“You know what I think of that girl – but she deserves to know the truth,” she points out, and Siôn admits that is true, but he does not know how to solve this problem.

"You need to tell the truth!"

“Siôn, you’re a good man – you need to tell the truth,” she insists, but he is scared.

"What if she doesn't want to be with me?"

“What if she doesn’t want to be with me?” he wails, and Anita concedes that she might not –

"At least, she would have all the facts"

but on the other hand, she might, and at least she would have all the facts to make a decision.

Siôn cannot argue with that

He nods, knowing that what she said is true.

Jason is doing the cooking at Bryntirion, but when he notifies Kelly that dinner is almost ready,

"These articles don't write themselves!"

she is putting on her coat.   “You’re not going out?” he demands, and she points out that these articles do not write themselves.

"I thought we were having a night in"

“Kelly, I thought we were having a night in – I’ve even dressed up!” he protests, “Look, I know you’re only trying to help with this article, and you’ve started a petition, and spoken to people – but don’t you think Ifan would rather have you here

"Out saving the world!"

“than out saving the world?”

"Who woke him, made him breakfast?"

“Who woke him up this morning, Jase?” she enquires, “Who made him breakfast and got his PE kit ready?   And who just read him a story upstairs?

"Er – you, Kelly"

“Exactly – so I’m not out saving the world, am I?

"I'm fighting for us and our little family"

“No, I’m here, fighting for us and for our little family.”

"What about me?   I need you"

Jason is humbled and confesses that he was wrong;  “Forget about Ifan for a second – what about me?   I need you.”

"And I need more support"

She replies that she needs more support – and will see him later.

"I've been thinking about our relationship"

Siôn is at number 10, where he does not know how to begin;  “I’ve been thinking a lot about our situation and our relationship,” he says, and Tesni looks worried.   “The last thing I want is for you to get hurt – so I think you deserve a swift and honest answer.”

"You don't want a child with me"

She has come to the conclusion that he does not want a child with her,

"It's more complicated than that"

but he replies that it is more complicated than that, and begs her not to get upset.

"I half expected you to say that"

She rather unconvincingly says that she is fine;  “I had half expected you to say that,” she admits, “But I was just hoping.”

"What I want is for you to be happy"

“No, you’re misunderstanding me . . . well . . .  what I wanted to say was . . . what I want more than anything is for you to be happy,” he goes on, and she looks confused.

"I'd love to have a child with you . . ."

When he adds, “I’d love to have a child with you,”

"That's amazing, Siôn!"

she bursts into laughter, not being able to believe it, and describing it as amazing.

Now it is Siôn’s turn to be confused, as she exclaims, “I didn’t want to say this before you made your decision –

"I don't think I could have stayed with you"

“but I don’t think I could have stayed with you if you said no.”

He does not elaborate on his last statement

He thinks it best not to say any more.

"I'd like to talk about . . ."

In the Deri, Andrea would like to discuss something, and points across towards Dani;

"We could go somewhere else"

Garry suggests that they could go somewhere else.

"It's strange to come here on a first date"

“You must admit that it’s strange to come here for a first date,” she suggests.

He replies that the Deri is just one of the places he owns in the village;

"It's a bit more comfortable than the garage"

“It’s a bit more comfortable than the garage.”

"Have you got an ex-partner there as well?"

She wonders if he has a ex-partner there as well, but he tells her not to worry about Dani;  “She likes to tease – but we understand each other.”

Andrea informs him that it is not an issue for her;

"Everyone has history"

“When you play the dating game at our age, everyone has history.”

Then she sees Mark at the bar . . .

Then she glances across and notices that Mark has just arrived at the bar;

. . . and he has seen her

he is looking at her,

Andrea thinks she will have another drink

so she thinks she will have another drink after all.   Mark appears concerned that Garry is with her.

"Was she disappointed?"

Anita returns to Y Felin, where she is told that she did not need to check up on Siôn;  she has rather come to see how Tesni handled the news.   “Was she disappointed?”

"We understand each other"

and Siôn simply replies that they understand each other.

"You haven't told her, have you?"

Anita realises, “You haven’t told her, have you?”   He confesses that they had a chat, and after seeing how much it means to her, he could not bring himself to do so.

"Siôn White – what's wrong with you?"

“Siôn White – what’s wrong with you?” she shouts.

"She said she wouldn't want to be with me"

“She said she wouldn’t want to be with me if she couldn’t have a baby with me,” he answers, and Anita insists that he has to respect that,

"Go back there and tell her!"

instructing him to go back there and tell her.   Siôn, however, maintains that he does not want to hurt her.

“She’ll be more upset when you try for a baby and she can’t understand why she’s not getting pregnant!” rages Anita, “What if she asks about IVF?   Are you going to keep lying?”

"We didn't say when we would start trying"

His excuse is that they did not say when they were going to start trying, and he hopes she might change her mind in the meantime.

"You say the stupidest things sometimes!"

Anita is a very forthright;  “For a man who’s so intelligent, you say the stupidest things sometimes!”   With that she marches out of the house.

First rule of surveillance – lock the front door . . .

The DI is sitting in his kitchen, watching proceedings in the flat next door on his laptop, and he is wearing headphones to get the full audio experience.

. . . or someone will catch you at it

Unfortunately he did not close the front door, and has a visitor in the form of Brynmor, who has come to borrow the tools to mend his watch.

He is unaware of his visitor

Wilko is blissfully ignorant of his approach until he reaches the kitchen door and can see what he is doing.

"Was that Dani on the screen?"

Wilko jumps up at his presence, as Brynmor enquires, “Was that Dani on the screen just then?”

Portrait of a panic-stricken policeman

Wilko is panic-stricken.

"This has been great"

Garry says that their evening has been great, and Andrea agrees that it has,

"After a rather rocky start"

after a rather rocky start.   He wonders if she will do him a favour;

"Can you say that we met n a coffee shop?"

“If anyone asks, can you say that we met in a coffee shop?   People of our age meeting on a dating app . . .”

She insists there is no shame in using dating apps, no matter how old one may be, but he points out that people can be so judgmental.

"It's time for me to go, Garry"

“This is what I know, Garry – it’s time for me to go,” she says, which disappoints him, and he asks if they can do it again.

“What – a drink at your ex-wife’s home?” she answers, and he realises that this is a brush off, so he heads for the ‘gents’.

Andrea is about to leave

Andrea picks up her coat and bag, and as she is leaving, Mark calls her name.

"I didn't realise you know Garry"

“I didn’t want you to leave without saying something – I didn’t realise you know Garry.”

"I didn't, until this date"

She confesses that she did not, at least, not until this date.

"I wouldn't like to see you get hurt"

“Well, all I’ll say is that I wouldn’t like to see you get hurt,” he tells her.

"Again, you mean!"

“Again, you mean!” she growls, and Mark points out that Garry has just come out of prison,

"Yeah – I'm sorry about that"

adding that he is sorry for the way things ended between them – he insists that she deserves better than that.

"Good night, Mark"

She wishes him good night and thanks him for the apology.

"Be nice to Andrea, will you?"

When Garry returns from the ‘gents’, he is warned, “Be nice to Andrea, will you?   I don’t want her to get hurt –

"Don't treat her badly – OK?"

“don’t treat her badly – OK?”

Cassie has a knowing look

Cassie looks knowingly at Mark.

Wilko in a desperate damage-limitation exercise

Wilko attempts to extricate himself from this situation;  “I know what this looks like – no one was supposed to find out – this is the best way we have to keep her safe.   It’s such a sad situation –

"Remember how dangerous things were?"

“do you remember how dangerous things were between Dani and Dylan?”

"So the camera is there for her well-being?"

“So the police put the camera there for her well-being?” says Brynmor, betraying a hint of suspicion.

"Keep it to yourself – for their sake"

Wilko tells him that he must keep the matter to himself, for Dani’s and the children’s sake.

“If Dylan or anyone linked to his operations found out, they could put the operation at risk.   Dani and the children would be in danger if they found out you knew.”

"I'll get those tools"

Brynmor realises the gravity of the situation, and the DI thanks him for his co-operation;  now he will get the tools for that watch.

He is very worried

As he goes upstairs, he looks extremely worried.
