Not the best game to play with a hangover |
We are treated to a rear view of Eifion, who is bending over to try and pick up a packet of ‘Oatsters’ with his teeth. Rhys is urging him on and videoing his efforts. “This isn’t easy when you’ve got a hangover,” Eifion growls.
Eifion collapses on the floot |
Finally he collapses on the floor,
"Eifion Rowlands – epic fail!" |
with Rhys shouting, “Eifion Rowlands – epic fail!”
Geraint laughs at Eif's discomfiture |
and Geraint, who is working behind the bar, appears very amused by this. Kath has just come in and wonders what on earth is going on; “He’s just failed the cereal box challenge,” Rhys announces, and Eifion explains that you have to pick up the box of ‘Oatsters’ with your teeth – without your hands, arms and legs touching the floor.
"Haven't you got anything better to do?" |
“Haven’t you got anything better to do?” she snarls,
"This is going on my YouTube channel" |
and Rhys describes it as a serious business – the video is going on his YouTube channel.
"Trying to get the 'Oatsters' company to sponsor him" |
“He’s trying to get the ‘Oatsters’ Company to sponsor him,” says Eifion, and Kath cannot believe that people pay for this nonsense. Rhys maintains that it will be good publicity for them, so he is posting videos of people doing the challenge to see what happens.
"Two coffees to go, please, Geraint" |
Kath asks Geraint for two coffees to go, as Rhys tries to get her to have a go, boasting that he holds the record; “You have to pick it up in less than 15 seconds.” She protests that she has other things to do.
"Perhaps she's too old" |
“What’s the matter – scared, are you? Or perhaps she’s too old,” Rhys teases, and this has the desired result,
This is as much as we are allowed to see |
as she prepares to attempt the challenge, filmed by Rhys (but we are not permitted to actually see her in action).
Iolo has lost his pivot nuts |
Instead the scene shifts to number 7, where Iolo is frantically looking for a pack of pivot nuts;
"They were here this morning" |
“They were here this morning,” he moans,
"Have you see Rhys' latest video?" |
but Tyler is much more interested in Rhys’ latest campaign.
"Are you sure you haven't moved them?" |
“Are you sure you haven’t moved them?” Iolo demands, but is shown the video challenge. Tyler expects that he is chasing sponsorship from ‘Oatsters’.
"Do you want to see Eifion in action?" |
As Iolo continues searching the house, he is asked, “Do you want to see Eifion in action?”
"Tyler, I'm busy!" |
and he angrily points out that he is busy. “Are you sure? He’s got a pretty little backside,” Tyler goes on, “Have you found out yet who he pulled? Jason is certain that it is someone we know, because he gets cagey every time we pull his leg.”
"I have to go now" |
Iolo does not have time for any lunch, because he has to go now.
"You're very flexible, Kath" |
Hywel is now in the Deri, and is looking on his phone at Kath’s performance, remarking that she is very flexible; “For my age, you mean,” she snarls,
"Cheeky devil!" |
“Cheeky devil!” Rhys thanks her for taking part in the challenge.
"Do you think anyone's going to watch that?" |
“Do you think anyone’s going to watch that video?” his father enquires, and Rhys says that if he manages to get ‘Oatsters’ on board, he will have had a good week. “And what do you call a good week?” is the next question.
"Well, 'Seren Snoothies' sponsored me" |
Rhys replies that ‘Seren Smoothies’ sponsored him for £500 – and if ‘Oatsters’ do the same . . .
Hywel is incredulous that he could make £1,000 in a week; “£52,000 a year?” Rhys is not expecting to make that every week, but is confidently expecting that if things go OK, it could be looking at £40,000 a year, with a bit of luck.
"That's more than I earn" |
“That’s more than I earn,” says Hywel, enviously.
"Still think I'm wasting my time?" |
“Do you still think I’m wasting my time?’ Rhys wonders, “Do you want a pint – I’ll pay?” He asks Geraint for two lagers, but then Hywel’s phone sounds (emitting a strange whistling sound)
Jaclyn wants his professional help . . . |
with a text from Jaclyn; ‘Can you come over as soon as possible? Problem with the laptop. Jacs.’
. . . and Hywel is only too willing |
Hywel decides not to bother with that pint, because there is something he has to do; this immediately raises Rhys’ suspicions.
Brynmor is clearing out his lock-ups |
Outside the garage, a van is being unloaded by Brynmor and Wilko; there are many boxes of motorcycle parts,
"How many boxes are there?" |
and the DI asks how many boxes there are. “I’ve only just started – thanks for helping me with the move,” says Brynmor, and is told that he would kill himself, doing it on his own.
"There's plenty of petrol left in this tank" |
Brynmor’s retort is, “There’s plenty of petrol left in this tank!”
The engine of a BSA 1925 round tnk |
In one particular box is the engine of a 1925 BSA round tank, which Brynmor intends to build from scratch.
"It might be easier to buy a bike" |
Kath appears upon the scene, with the two coffees, and thinks that it might be easier to buy a bike, but Brynmor describes that as boring
"I need a challenge, Kath" |
and says that he needs a challenge. “You see, because this bike will only have one back brake, after I finish it, it will be worth a lot of money – at least £10,000! And it will cost peanuts to build –
Kath likes the sound of all that money |
“so think of the money I’ll make if I sell it.”
"But that will take you years" |
Wilko insists that it will take him years to do it properly, but Brynmor maintains that he is not going anywhere, and hopes that this will be the first of many bikes.
"Don't take on too much, mind" |
He is warned not to take on too much,
Brynmor helps himself to a coffee |
and takes one of the coffees from Kath.
"Got to keep the workers happy, and all that" |
Iolo is at work under the sink in Bryntirion, where Kelly makes him a cup of tea, with his favourite biscuits; “Got to keep the workers happy, and all that –
"It's a bit of a bribe as well, actually" |
“it’s a bit of a bribe as well, actually. I’ve been invited to cover the “Women in Welsh Art’ exhibition and I need a ‘plus one’. I would ask Jason, but he’d rather stick pins in his eyes than go to something like that with me,
"Are you up for it, Iol?" |
“so, are you up for it?”
Illo is quite oblivious |
Iolo, whose mind is on other things, agrees, without having taken any notice of what she said.
"Are you all right?" |
“Are you all right ?” Kelly demands,
"Yes – why shouldn't I be?" |
and he rather angrily says that he is fine; she can easily see that is not the case.
Hywel, who has evidently solved the problem with the laptop, is leaving number 10 by the back gate; “No-one has ever called me a knight in shining armour before,” he comments,
"Mark offered to help, but . . ." |
and Jaclyn says that Mark offered to help, but . . .”
"Well, he's never going to be 'Brain of Britain', is he?" |
“Well, he’s never going to be ‘Brain of Britain’, is he?” Hywel sneers, and she cannot envisage him rescuing a damsel in distress, either. “You’ve got to leave that to the big boys,” he adds, and she warns him not to let his head get too big. “If you need anything else, just get in touch,” he invites her.
Rhys happens to be passing |
At that opportune moment, Rhys happens to be walking past and witnesses this; Hywel quickly walks away,
"Why was he sneaking out the back?" |
but Rhys calls to Jaclyn, “Why was he sneaking out the back?”
"We was mending my laptop" |
She denies that he was and points out that he was mending her laptop.
“That’s his second visit – are you just ‘friends’?” Rhys continues,
"He's the biggest womaniser in Cwmderi!" |
“You do know that Dad is the biggest womaniser in Cwmderi?” She objects to him talking about his father like that, but he adds, “Gaynor’s been through a lot, and she doesn’t need any more stress!”
"There's nothing going on, Rhys!" |
Once again, Jaclyn makes it very clear that there is nothing going on between them; “You said that about Garry – and look how that ended!” Rhys reminds her, “Be careful, Jaclyn,
"You'll get a reputation as a home wrecker!" |
“or you’ll get a reputation as a home wrecker!”
As he walks away, Jaclyn’s phone rings; it is Sioned, advising that Eileen is not well today,
"It's my day off, Sioned" |
but Jaclyn protests, “It’s my day off.”
Rhys keeps an eye on her |
Rhys has been listening from the end of the back street.
Iolo washes his hands . . . |
Having finished the plumbing job, Iolo washes his hands,
. . . then sanitises them |
then applies some sanitiser.
"There's something definitely wrong" |
Kelly has been watching this, and concludes, “Right, there’s something definitely wrong, because you’re cleaning hands that are clean.”
"Nothing's wrong, Kelly!" |
He tries to convince her that nothing is wrong,
"You're distracted, tetchy, like when you had cancer!" |
but she continues, “Something’s definitely wrong if you won’t tell me! Are you ill again? You’re distracted, tetchy, exactly like when you had cancer – if it’s back, I’ll be there 100%.”
He pleads with her, “Stop being nice to me, Kel – I don’t deserve it.”
"Of course you deserve it!" |
She squeals that of course he does, but he admits, “I’ve done something terrible.”
She is adamant that he should tell her, reminding him, “You know that you can tell me anything, Iol.”
"I slept with Eifion" |
He confesses that he slept with Eifion,
Kelly is, unusually, speechless |
which she finds quite unbelievable (and out of character).
Tesni tries this ridiculous challenge . . . |
Now Rhys has Tesni trying to beat his record with the cereal packet;
. . . which she accomplishes with ease |
being young and supple, she manages to complete the challenge, although rather inelegantly,
"Three seconds outside my record" |
but is three seconds outside the record.
"Dragged her into it as well, have you?" |
Eifion comes in and comments that he has dragged her into it as well.
"What do we get out of this?" |
Tesni has been thinking; “What do we get out of this? You get sponsored by ‘Oatsters’ and we don’t get a penny?” Rhys stresses that he may not get sponsored, but she points out, “If you do, you’ll be quids in – that’s not fair.”
Eifion wants some cash |
Eifion agrees with this, maintaining that they should get some cash.
"You'll have the honour of being on my channel . . ." |
Rhys explains that they will have the honour of being on his YouTube channel; “Money isn’t everything – and you have the kudos of being linked to me.
". . . perhaps you should be paying me" |
“Thinking about it, perhaps you should be paying me.”
"You know what you can do with that idea!" |
Tesni abruptly tells him he knows what he can do with that idea, and he leaves the Deri,
"Not everybody gets the offer" |
warning them, “Not everybody gets the offer – just remember that.” Eifion wonders what planet he thinks he is living on.
"We bumped into each other in Priscilla's" |
At number 7, Iolo is trying to explain to Kelly, “Of course I was hammered – not that it’s an excuse, but . . . we bumped into each other in Priscilla’s and shared a taxi home – and I don’t know what came over me. Say something then – are you angry – or disappointed?”
"I thought you and Ty were happy" |
Kelly replies that it is not her place to judge; “I thought you and Ty were happy.”
"We are, Kel" |
Iolo alleges that they are, and that is why he cannot understand why he did it.
"Eifion, though? I mean, seriously?" |
“Eifion, though? I mean, seriously? she gasps, “If you had to sleep with someone, why didn’t you choose someone else? Tyler knows Eifion.”
"I knew Aled!" |
Iolo’s answers, “I knew Aled!” She demands whether that makes it all right. “No – but I didn’t do anything worse than Tyler did,” he argues, and she is surprised that he is using that as a defence.
“Perhaps I had a right to do it!” he goes on,
"You're very messed up, Iolo!" |
but Kelly informs him that he is very messed up, and if he is going to start playing tit-for-tat, it is the kiss of death for his marriage.
“You’re supposed to be putting Aled behind you,” she stresses, and he admits that what he did was wrong – that there is no excuse.
"You think I should tell him the truth" |
“Tyler trusts me – you think I should tell him the truth, don’t you? Because, at the end of the day, it’s the right thing to do, isn’t it?”
"Not necessarily" |
Kelly replies that is not necessarily the case.
"I'm taking a big risk to come here!" |
Jaclyn visits Llwyncelyn, and needless to say, Hywel is pleased to see her; “I’m taking a big risk to come here,” she begins, “Rhys thinks we’re having an affair –
"I don't want anyone to think there's something going on" |
“I don’t want anyone, especially your son, to think there’s something going on – so we should stop spending time together.”
"We haven't done anything wrong" |
Hywel protests that they have not done anything wrong;
"Not yet!" |
“Not yet!” she snaps, “And I’d like to keep it that way – I don’t want anything more.”
"I feel the same way, Jaclyn" |
He reluctantly tries to convince her that he feels the same way, and she marches out of the house.
"You say honesty is the best policy" |
Iolo has fetched a glass of water and demands, “How many times have I heard you say honesty is the best policy? I don’t want to hurt him, Kel – I really don’t – but when he slept with Aled, I wanted to know.”
"And the fallout was horrendous!" |
She reminds him, “Yeah – and the fallout was horrendous, wasn’t it? I’m not telling you not to confess, but you should seriously think before doing anything rash – because sometimes you’re better off not knowing.
"What you don't know, don't hurt you!" |
“What you don’t know, don’t hurt you! And if it was a one-off with Eifion – and it won’t happen again – and you’re sure he won’t say anything . . .”
Iolo hopes Eifion will not say anything (but this is Cwmderi!) |
Iolo believes that he will not, so she continues, “Just think, OK, before doing anything, because,
"Once you've said something, you can't take it back" |
“once you have, you can’t take it back.
"Telling the truth is the right thing to do" |
He is still of the opinion that telling the truth is the right thing to do; if he does not say anything, it will be like an axe over their heads. “The sooner, the better,” he concludes.
"Big move going well, then?" |
Mark returns home after his round to find that the big move is going well, and his mother now has her table back.
"Do you think Brynmor has taken too much on?" |
“Do you think Brynmor has taken too much on?” Kath asks, “I was under the impression that the garage was a storage space – but no, he’s got big plans to build motorbikes now.”
"It's good for him to have something to do" |
Mark considers that it is good for him to have something to do, but his mother worries, “Mark, he’s no spring chicken, is he? You know, building bikes is a big job, isn’t it?
"What if he has a heart attack?" |
“What if he has a heart attack or something? I don’t know, do I? Do you think I should have a word with him?”
"This will be a new lease of life for him" |
Mark forbids this, arguing that the garage will be a new lease of life for him,
"Mark, could you help with a few boxes?" |
and that moment Brynmor returns, asking him to help with a few boxes from upstairs.
"Where's the pig – did you give him the sack?" |
“Where’s the pig, then? Did you give him the sack?” Mark jokes.
"Some respect would be nice" |
“DI Wilkinson is in the van – and some respect would be nice!” Brynmor reprimands him.
"We'll get a bad name" |
Mark does not want him hanging about outside the house for too long, or they will get a bad name.
Rhys arrives home |
Rhys returns to Llwyncelyn as it is getting dark and sits down on the sofa; his father does not say a word,
"What's the problem, then?" |
so Rhys asks what is the problem.
"You've upset Jaclyn" |
“You’ve upset Jaclyn – she came here. Do you think she’d do that if we were having an affair?” Hywel demands,
"Perhaps it's a double bluff" |
and Rhys answers that it may be a double bluff.
"We're just friends" |
When his father once again insists that they are just friends,
"With your track record?" |
Rhys asks, “Why should I believe you – with your track record?” Hywel emphasises that he would not risk messing around with another woman after the last few weeks. He insists that he has learned his lesson.
Rhys does not believe that for a moment; “I haven’t done anything wrong!” Hywel declares, but his son regards that as mere words.
"I've lost a good friend because of you!" |
“Well, you believe what you want – but I’ve lost a good friend because of you. She’s too scared to call here in case she’s wrongly accused – and that’s your fault – I’m disappointed in you!” Rhys seems as if he may be regretful.
Iolo looks a a photo |
Iolo is looking at a photo of Tyler and himself with Greta as a baby; as he walks back into the kitchen, Tyler comes through the front door,
"Greta won't be back until six" |
and advises, “Greta won’t be back until six – she’s gone to play with Seren.”
"That gives us time to talk" |
“Good – that gives us time to talk,” begins Iolo, and is shocked when Tyler says he knows what he wants to say.
"Madam's told you about the Sali Mali Village" |
“Madam’s told you about the Sali Mali Village, hasn’t she?” [The Sali Mali Village, or Pentre Bach, is where the S4C children's series is filmed, at Blaenpennal near Aberystwyth] “She asked if we can go and stay there – and I think we should. Imagine her little face if we told her we were going to stay with Nicw Nacw and Sioni – it would make her year! Come on, Iol – when was the last time we did something spontaneous?
"We haven't had a treat since – I can't remember when" |
“And we haven’t had a treat since – I can’t remember when.”
Iolo has something else to talk about . . . |
Iolo does not want to discuss this now, so is asked what he wanted to talk about;
"What's more important than making your little girl happy?" |
“What’s more important than making your little girl and your husband happy?”
Iolo once again chickens out |
As has happened before, Iolo chickens out, abandons the speech he was intending to make, and agrees with Tyler,
"I'll see if we can get a deal" |
who says, “Good, I’ll look into it to see if we can get a deal.” Iolo tries to force a smile.
