Eileen is recovering |
At Penrhewl, Sioned is surprised to see that her mother is up, and Eileen says that she still feels tired, but is better than she was. Sioned tells her to sit down, and DJ will get her a cup of tea.
"Where's Huwi?" |
“I don’t want a fuss, says her mother, “Where’s Huwi?”
DJ replies that he is watching Cyw for ten minutes,
"He's been out on the farm every day" |
and Sioned emphasises that DJ has been taking Huwi out on the farm every day; “His wellies were full of mud yesterday!” DJ insists that he and Huwi understand each other, and he will be in the Young Farmers before they know it.
Sioned will have a shower |
Sioned will go and have a shower, and Eileen refuses some toast;
Eileen tries to put on a brave face |
she does not look herself.
"I just want a word, Jason" |
Jason visits Ffion’s office at school after having been summoned; he is worried that something is wrong with Ifan. “No, I just want a word,” Ffion tells him,
"This door needs a bit of adjustment" |
as he seems to be having trouble closing the door.
"I came straight from work" |
He regards it as bad news if the head teacher phones to have a chat with a parent; he came straight from work as quickly as he could.
"You didn't tell Kelly, did you?" |
Again she assures him that everything is fine, and asks, “You didn’t tell Kelly you were coming here, did you? She must have told you that she called in.”
"I agree with everything she says" |
He replies that, for the record, he agrees with everything she says – it is not right that they are stopping Ifan’s school transport.
"It's the council making the cuts" |
“And I completely agree as well – but it’s the council making cuts!” Ffion emphasises, “And it doesn’t help when Kelly criticises the school.”
“Kelly is just saying what’s right – she’s reporting the truth, Ffion, that’s her job,” he replies, but Ffion wonders if he can have a word with her, as fighting for Ifan’s rights is one thing – but is the last thing she needs.
"You know how stubborn Kelly can be" |
“You know Kelly as well as I do – you know how stubborn she can be – I honestly don’t see her backing down,” he points out, but Ffion reminds him that she is not the type to give up easily either.
"The easiest thing is to give in now, Ffion"
He acknowledges that he knows both of them pretty well, but stresses that he lives with Kelly; “And I can tell you straight, I think the easiest thing for you to do is give in now – sorry, Ffion – that’s the honest truth for you!”
"Can I go now, please?" |
With that, he asks for permission to leave the office, and thanks her for the chat; Ffion is looking very irked.
"I thought you could be in the article, Iolo" |
Meanwhile, Kelly is telling Iolo, “I thought you could be in the article, as one of the disgusted parents – and say what the school is doing is awful. Honestly, Iol, Ffion talked to me as if I was one of the school kids! And not just that – it was her attitude!”
Iolo has that vacant look again |
Iolo of course is staring into space with his mind on other things, as Kelly drones on, “She said I have no rights because I’m not Ifan’s mother – and do you know what?
"I think the world of that kid, Iolo!" |
“That really hurt, because I think the world of that kid.
"You're not listening to a word I'm saying!" |
“You’re not listening to a word I’m saying, are you?”
He is in another world |
Then she realises that his blank expression probably has some connection with last night’s dinner with Eifion;
"Eifion, last night – sorry, I forgot!" |
“Sorry, I forgot!” He replies, without much conviction, that it was all right. “Could have fooled me!” she sighs,
"I don't know what's going on, Kel" |
and he says that he does not know what is going on.
"Does Tyler know you've 'copped off'?" |
She wonders if Tyler knows that he has ‘copped off’, and Iolo is sure that he has no idea, but it is as if Eifion is becoming part of their lives now.
"To go clubbing in Swansea" |
“Somehow we’ve all arranged to go out clubbing in Swansea.”
"The club where you 'copped off'!" |
Kelly realises that this will be at the same club where he and Eifion ‘copped off’, and describes it as weird.
"I don't want to be friends with him!" |
“I don’t want to be friends with him!” Iolo growls, “But it’s as if Tyler is taking him under his wing.”
"You have to just forget about it, Iol" |
Kelly reiterates her previous advice, to simply forget about it; “Because you’d be telling him for your sake, not for his.” Iolo insists that Tyler deserves to know the truth – at the end of the day, he did not sleep with a stranger –
"It was Eifion, and Tyler works with him" |
“it was Eifion, and Tyler works with him.
“Exactly,” she says, “So, if you tell him, you’re going to wreck your relationship – you’re going to wreck his life – don’t do that to him.” Iolo, with tears coming to his eyes, does not want to lose Tyler,
"Put it behind you, please!" |
so she begs him, “Put it behind you – please!”
Dejected Garry |
In the Deri, Cassie sees a dejected Garry coming in;
"Are things that bad?" |
“Good grief – are things that bad?” she exclaims, and he just wants a coffee – double shot. She tells him that breakfasts are available,
"Go on, then – bacon sandwich" |
and he would like a bacon sandwich.
"Do you want to talk about it?" |
“Do you want to talk about it?” Cassie asks, “Whatever’s causing that expression on your face.”
"Dani seems very happy with Columbo" |
“Dani seems very happy with Columbo,” he groans, “He and Gwern seem to be big mates.” Cassie knows that must hurt, and he goes on, “I never thought things would turn out like this, you know.”
"Things often do not turn out as expected" |
She comments that things often do not turn out as expected, and he complains, “I’m back here – I haven’t got anyone or anything –
"And I'm working in the blinkin' chippy!" |
“and I’m working in the blinkin’ chippy!”
"What you need is a woman" |
Cassie diagnoses that what he needs is a woman, but he laughs at the suggestion.
"I'm not much of a catch now, am I?" |
“I’m not much of a catch now, am I?” he reminds her, but she says that a bit of romance would make a world of difference. He thanks her for her concern, and adds, “There aren’t many women around here for me, are there?”
"There is a world beyond Cwmderi" |
She points out that he does not have to stick to Cwmderi, as there is a world beyond the village.
"That's not my scene, Cassie" |
He maintains that is not his scene,
"You need to change your tactics" |
so she suggests, “If your delight is married women, I think you need to change your tactics – I’ll get that breakfast.”
Garry considers that suggestion |
He ponders upon what she has said.
"I thought I'd sneak in for a quick cup of tea" |
Kelly is working at the kitchen table when Jason returns unexpectedly; “I just happened to be passing,” he says, “So I thought I’d sneak in for quick cup of tea.” She replies that a coffee would be great, as she has not had time to make one.
"I've got over 100 signatures already!" |
“The article is going great – and the petition!” she goes on, “There are over a hundred signatures already, I only started it yesterday.”
Then he breaks the news that he went to the school this morning; “Ffion call me in for a chat,”
"To try and change my mind" |
and Kelly knows exactly what that was about – to have a word with her to try and change her mind.
"Not her exact words, but yeah" |
“Those aren’t the exact words she used, but yeah,” he agrees.
"She's a piece of work!" |
“She’s a piece of work!” Kelly snarls, as he says that it was the council’s decision and not the school’s fault. “It doesn’t matter whose fault it was – I just want to school to be all inclusive, so that Ifan gets the education he deserves!
"It's not too much to ask, is it?" |
“It’s not much to ask, is it? And she obviously doesn’t know me very well, if she thinks you can calm me down!”
"Ffion and me?" |
Jason maintains that the two of them are very similar, which infuriates Kelly; “Ffion and me?”
"I warned that you were incredibly stubborn" |
He informs her of what he told Ffion; that Kelly was only doing what was right, and warned that she was incredibly stubborn, so Ffion should look out.
"Now where's my coffee?" |
“Of course I’m right – now where’s my coffee?” Kelly demands.
"Where's that food?" |
In the Deri, Ffion wonders where the food is, and Jinx reminds her she has only just ordered it;
Jinx tries to calm her down |
“There’s no point meeting for lunch in the week if you’re going to be on tenterhooks,” he remarks. She complains about the circus at that school, and the whole business with Kelly – which is snowballing.
"He's like a puppy when it comes to Kelly" |
“I had a word with Jason – but he won’t do anything – he’s like a puppy when it comes to Kelly,” she moans, and when Jinx comments that she is looking out for Ifan, Ffion growls, “He’s not even her son.”
"I would never have put those two together" |
Then they see Dani and Wilko coming in, complete with pram; “I would never have put those two together,” Jinx says,
"They're not 'together' in that way?" |
and Ffion cannot believe that they are ‘together’ in that way. She suspects that he is looking after her because of his job;
"That's not part of his job description" |
“I’m pretty sure that’s not part of his job description,” Jinx adds, sarcastically.
"He wouldn't choose Dani instead of me!" |
“A man like him wouldn’t choose Dani instead of me!” Ffion informs Jinx, “I’ve got a job, an education, and we have the same interests. What has Dani got? Apart from a load of children –
"Fathers from a police lineup!" |
“and fathers straight from a police lineup?”
"If he doesn't want you, he doesn't deserve you" |
Jinx angrily points out that Dani is a nice girl; “You shouldn’t be bitter – if Marc doesn’t want you, he doesn’t deserve you.”
"What do you know about these dating apps?" |
Garry comes into the chip shop flat as Aaron is busy on his phone, talking to his friends. “What do you know about these dating apps?” Garry asks him, “I don’t want to try them,
"It's a bit desperate, isn't it?" |
“but I heard someone talking about them in the bar. It’s a bit desperate, isn’t it?”
"You can find anyone, anywhere" |
Aaron disagrees with this, arguing, “You can find someone who is just like you – you can find anyone, anywhere. It’s not just about getting a girlfriend, either – I’m talking to these people now – one from Liverpool, one in Glasgow and the other two are in London. We liked the same band, so we just started talking – it’s easy on the Internet, isn’t it?”
"It still sounds odd to me" |
Garry still maintains that it sounds odd to him, and Aaron points out, “If I didn’t have any friends on the Internet, I don’t know where I’d be.
"I don't click with anyone in Cwmderi any more" |
“I don’t click with anyone in Cwmderi any more. I’m telling you, its great – you should try it – this online dating. I’ll set it up for you – it’s easy.”
"If Mark Jones can do it . . ." |
Garry is still reluctant, so Aaron says, “If Mark Jones can do it, you can find a girlfriend on this online dating –
". . . the famous Garry Monk won't have any trouble!" |
“I’m sure the famous Garry Monk won’t have any trouble at all!”
"I've been a moaning cow, haven't I?" |
Ffion thinks that it is time she got back to the lion’s den, and apologises to Jinx, “I’ve been a moaning cow, haven’t I?”
"Yes – but you did pay for lunch!" |
He agrees that she has, but she did pay for lunch, so he cannot complain. She is not looking forward to speaking to the happy couple at the bar as they leave.
"Did you have a nice lunch?" |
“Did you have a nice lunch” Ffion asks Wilko, and Jinx comments that there is nothing wrong with the Deri’s veggie lasagne.
"Pork chops are the way to go" |
Dani quickly interjects, “Pork chops are the way to go!”
"Well, this looks romantic" |
Ffion cannot help commenting, “Well, this looks romantic,”
"What – with a baby in the pram?" |
and Dani points out that there is a baby in the pram.
"Yes – who would have thought it?" |
“Yes – who would have thought it?” Ffion adds, as she leaves.
"I thought Ffion would have understood" |
Wilko thought that Ffion would understand that they were more than friends now, and Dani says that she also understands. He thinks he had better go, and she thanks him for the food;
"I'm not being pushy – honestly . . ." |
“Look, don’t think I’m being pushy – I’m not, honestly – but do you want to come over tonight to watch a film? The children will be there, anyway.”
"Yes, I'd love to" |
He is pleased to accept the invitation,
Dani is quite happy with the way things are going |
and will see her later.
Eileen is sorting the washing |
Eileen is folding washing when Sioned comes into the farmhouse, commenting that her mother looks better. “I thought we’d have something easy for dinner tonight – a tin of soup or something,” says Eileen,
"We're not students, Mam!" |
and Sioned protests that they are not students. “I can’t be bothered to cook tonight,” her mother adds.
"Brownies from the bakery" |
DJ comes in with a treat for them; “Brownies from the bakery – double chocolate.” Sioned says that he is one in a million, and he maintains that he does his best.
"I'm going to the Deri for dinner – are you coming |
Sioned wants to go to the Deri for dinner, and DJ wonders what is the occasion; he is told that there is no food in the house.
“I want a decent meal – are you coming?” she asks,
"Don't touch my brownie!" |
and warns him not to touch her Brownie. Eileen apologises for not making any dinner, but he says it does not matter,
DJ fancies cheese on toast |
and he has been thinking all day about having cheese on toast.
"Things seem to be going well between you and Sioned" |
“Things seem to be going well between you and Sioned,” Eileen remarks,
"We understand each other, Eileen" |
and he replies that they understand each other; she definitely looks troubled about something.
"Which is the best app to use?" |
Garry asks which is the best app for him to use;
"No – that's too complicated" |
Aaron dismisses one as being too complicated
"The one at the bottom is perfect!" |
and one as being too young for Garry. “That one at the bottom – that’s perfect!” is his verdict, “Just press download.”
"Not a word to anyone about this – all right?" |
Garry reminds him not to say a word to anyone about this.
Eileen looks at the brownies . . . |
Eileen is drinking a cup of tea and looks across at the brownies;
. . . then tries a piece . . . |
she takes one and eats a piece,
. . . which seems to cause problems |
then looks even more concerned.
The film has reduced Dani to tears |
At the end of the film in the Deri flat, Dani is in tears, as she usually is with rom-coms;
"I cried for hours watching Titanic!" |
“I cried for hours watching Titanic!” she tells Wilko.
"Thank you for putting up with me" |
She walks across the room and thanks him for putting up with her;
He appears to see his chance here . . . |
he walks closer to her.
"I really like you . . ." |
But then she appears to lose confidence; “I like you – I really like you,” she begins,
". . . I just don't want to spoil things" |
“And I just don’t want to spoil things by moving too fast.”
"Ah, Gabriel – right on cue!" |
Fortunately, Gabriel cries at that moment, and the moment is gone.
Wilko takes his leave of her |
Wilko decides that he will go; “You go and look after Gabriel, and I’ll let myself out,” he says.
Anita come downstairs late
Anita finds Kelly 'burning the midnight oil' |
and finds Kelly still working on her article;
"Leaving Jason alone, after he has been working hard" |
she complains that she has left Jason alone in bed, after he has been working hard all day.
"I'm doing this for Ifan" |
Kelly emphasises that she is doing this for Ifan, but her aunt is having doubts about that;
"You're making such a fuss, Kelly" |
“You’re making such a fuss about this taxi for Ifan – it’s not too much to ask for you to drive him.”
"That's not the point, Auntie Neet!" |
Kelly insists that is not the point,
and is told, “Oh – you get a story for the paper!” which Kelly regards as unfair.
"A lot of families struggle to get their children to school" |
“Not everyone is as lucky as you – a lot of families struggle to get their children to school – which is potentially going to affect them. Ifan is happy with things exactly as they are – any change will be a massive deal for him!”
Anita argues that Jason should be the one to sort things out, not Kelly;
"When you've got your own child out there somewhere!" |
“I think it’s very odd that you’re so worried about someone else’s child, when you’ve got your own child out there, somewhere!” Then she realises that came out wrong.
"That is not on, Auntie Neet!" |
Kelly snarls that Anita’s comment is, “Not on, Auntie Neet!”
Anita has put her foot in it again |
and she hurries upstairs.
What is the DI playing at this time?" |
The Deri bar is in darkness as the DI creeps around silently;
He has another spy camera |
he takes out a second spy camera and places it so it has a good view across the pub.
The view on the monitor next door |
Then, satisfied with his work, he leaves.
