Kelly is hard at work |
Kelly is working on her laptop when Jason comes in and announces that he did not have time to make lunch this morning, so he is starving.
"We can have a sandwich" |
She suggests that they have a sandwich,
The fridge is looking rather empty |
but when she looks in the fridge, decides that they need to do a big shop. “Cheese and tomato?” she asks.
"They can't offer Ifan free transport" |
Meanwhile Jason is opening a letter which has arrived, and is infuriated by the contents; “A letter from the school – they can’t offer Ifan free transport to and from school any more – funding cuts!”
"Ifan loves going in the taxi" |
Anita, who has been reading, thinks that is a pity; “Ifan loves going in the taxi every morning,”
"They're not going to get away with it!" |
and Kelly is determined that the school are not going to get away with it. Jason does not think there is much they can do about it.
"Schools don't change their minds"
“You’re not just going to accept it, are you?” she demands, but Anita warns that schools do not change their minds once a decision has been made.
"What about Ifan's rights, then?" |
“What about Ifan’s right, then?” squeals Kelly, “I’m going to do some research on the school’s inclusion policy!”
"Right – I'll make the sandwiches" |
Jason realises that he is going to have to make the sandwiches himself.
"Do you know who's in the chip shop now?" |
In the Deri, Tyler tells Eifion that tomorrow they will get chips from the shop; “Because – you know who works there now? Garry!” Eifion cannot believe it; “Garry Monk is serving haddock to the people of Cwmderi!” Tyler goes on,
'"Never thought I'd see him in a hairnet!" |
and Eifion never thought he would see Garry in a hairnet.
“I can’t wait to order chips, gravy, battered sausage –
"He'll be fuming, having to serve me!" |
“he’ll be fuming, having to serve me!” says Tyler, excitedly,
"Nothing better than a lunchtime pint, is there?" |
as Mathew comes back to the table.
“There’s nothing better than a lunchtime pint, is there?” he remarks, and Eifion says that he could stay there all day.
"How about a taxi to Swansea?" |
Tyler suggests that then it would be a taxi to Swansea, and Mathew thinks that sounds perfect,
"We've got a big delivery this afternoon" |
“But Jason wouldn’t be happy. Some other time, perhaps – we’ve got a big delivery this afternoon.”
Eifion maintains that he will need a full stomach for that, and Tyler warns him not to too eat too much, so as to leave room for tonight,
'"I hope you like sweet potato" |
hoping that he likes sweet potato. “I make better double-cooked chips than Heston Blumenthal!” he boasts.
"Garry Monk had better watch his new job, then!" |
“Garry Monk had better watch his new job, then!” Eifion jokes,
Mathew is not at all happy |
but Mathew is not at all happy about this arrangement.
Garry has a customer |
Garry is hard at work in the chippy when the DI comes in and eyes him suspiciously; “What do you want?” Garry growls, and is asked what food he recommends.
"Chips!" |
“Chips!” is Garry’s curt reply.
“Chips it is, then – and I’ll have some mushy peas as well.”
"It's important to move on" |
As Garry reluctantly shovels up some chips, Wilko continues, “You’ve done well to get a job so soon after leaving prison. It’s important to keep busy and move on.”
Garry asks if he would like salt and vinegar, and the DI just asks for salt;
"I don't like anything too bitter" |
“I don’t like anything too bitter.”
"£2.60!" |
He is charged £2.60, and tell Garry to keep the change.
"I didn't really need that garlic bread" |
After their lunch in the Deri, Eifion maintains that he did not really need that garlic bread; Tyler says that he looks as if he could do with a nap now,
"We've got time for a quick coffee" |
but Mathew will not countenance that. Tyler does suggest a taxi to Swansea, but is told that they have only time for a quick coffee before they get back to work.
"How does Iolo feel about this?" |
Tyler goes to get them and Mathew glowers at Eifion; “You’re going over there for dinner – why did you accept? How does Iolo feel about this?”
"It was a mistake" |
Eifion replies that he is not too happy, but has no need to worry, as what happened was a mistake.
"This is not a good idea, Eifion!" |
Mathew makes it abundantly clear, “This is not a good idea! Why don’t you cancel?”
Eifion says that he enjoys talking to Tyler, so Mathew imagines that he has shifted his sights to Tyler. “You don’t know what it’s like to be bisexual in a village like Cwmderi,” Eifion whines,
"It's nice to have someone to talk to" |
“It’s nice to have someone to talk to,” but he is reminded that he slept with Iolo.
Tyler orders the coffees |
As Eifion is served by Cassie at the bar,
"They won't lose anything because of me" |
Mathew continues, “Those two have a lot to lose,” but is told that they will not lose anything because of him.
"Three Americanos on the way" |
Tyler comes back, advising that three Americanos are on the way.
The DI stares at Garry |
Wilko is standing outside the chip shop, staring at Garry inside, as Gwern comes across the road from the Deri.
"I left my Welsh book at home" |
“Shouldn’t you be at school?” the DI asks, and is told that the boy has left his Welsh book at home. Gwern refuses the offer of a chip,
Wilko does not find Garry's chips very appetising |
and Wilko admits that he is not really enjoying them.
"Do you want a lift?" |
“Do you want a lift – I’m passing the school in a minute. I’ve got the bike round the corner – and a spare helmet.” He will phone Dani to let her know,
"On the motorbike – are you serious?" |
and Gwern is eager to have a ride on the motorbike;
Garry's watchful eye is on them |
this is being watched by Garry.
"These policies are driving me nuts!" |
Iolo arrives at Llwyncelyn, where Kelly says she needed a break; “These policies are driving me nuts!”
Iolo's 'hangdog' expression |
Then she realises, by Iolo’s expression,
"You haven't told Tyler, have you?" |
that he has not told Tyler, and he explains that he is worried that Tyler and Eifion are becoming friends –
"Eifion's coming over for dinner tonight" |
“and Eifion is coming over for dinner tonight.
“I don’t think he’ll say anything, but why has he agreed to come over?”
"You have to forget about it, Iol!" |
Kelly advises that this has gone too far, and he has to forget about it,
"I can't forget about it!" |
but he protests that he cannot forget about it.
"You're going to have a nervous breakdown!" |
“Well, you’re going to have a nervous breakdown!” Kelly warns, and adds, “Cuppa?”
"No police protection today, then?" |
Dani is pushing the pram past the chip shop and Garry quips, “You haven’t got police protection today, then.”
"Are you just being sarcastic?" |
She wonders whether he wants anything, or if he is just being sarcastic. He maintains that he was only pulling her leg; “You probably feel guilty.”
Dani turns to confront him |
At this, she stops and turns round,
"Before Policeman Pugh jumped in" |
as he goes on, “You know, the bedsheets weren’t even cold before Policeman Pugh jumped in.” She laughs and advises him that it is not going to work, this attempt to wind her up.
"I don't give a damn what you say!" |
“I don’t give a damn what you say!” she exclaims, but he points out that other people are saying the same thing;
"A new man in your bed . . ." |
having a new man in her bed after just having a baby with someone else.
Tyler is just leaving number 7 |
Tyler has just come out of number 7, and confronts Garry;
"Who do you think you are?" |
“Who do you think you are, talking to her like that? What Dani does is not your business – she has a right to be happy.”
"Coming from someone like you" |
Garry thanks him for the relationship advice; “It means so much, coming from someone like you,” and he walks back to the chippy.
"Get lost – and take your chip fat smell with you!" |
Tyler snarls at him to get lost and take his chip fat smell with him.
"I'm not afraid of Garry Monk!" |
Dani tells him not to let Garry get to him, but he angrily points out that he is not afraid of Garry Monk.
Dani goes into the shop |
Dani goes into the shop, where she and the baby are welcomed by Kath; “I haven’t seen him for ages,” she says, “What is he now – four months?
"You're a handsome boy, aren't you?" |
“Ooh – you’re a handsome boy, aren’t you?”
"Do you have any avocados?" |
When Dani asks if they have any avocados,
"Avoocados? This isn't Waitrose, Dani" |
Kath replies, “Avocados? The sign says village shop, love, not Waitrose! What’s this, then?
"A meals for your new fancy man, is it?" |
“A meal for your new fancy man? The Columbo of Cwmderi? You’ve been here long enough now to know there are no secrets in Cwmderi.”
"It's no-one else's business!" |
Dani replies that it is no one else’s business, but Kath does not relent; “The other one’s in jail – and Garry Monk is selling chips –
"Don Corleone selling pasties?" |
“who would have thought Don Corleone selling pasties?”
Dani growls, “I don’t care what you or anyone else thinks –
"I'm trying to build a life for me and the children" |
“I’m just trying to build a life for me and the children, OK?” and she marches out of the shop.
"Can you tell her to make an appointment" |
In the head teacher’s office, Ffion is trying to avoid her confrontation with Kelly; “Can’t you tell her to make an appointment? OK, send her in, then.” When her visitor bursts in, she continues, “Like the secretary said, if you make an appointment . . .”
"I'm here now, aren't I?" |
but Kelly points out that she is there now.
Ffion warns that she has a meeting in five minutes;
"It's about this" |
“It’s about this,” says Kelly, brandishing the letter, and Ffion admits that it is unfortunate, but the council makes the decisions, not the school. This does nothing to placate Kelly, who reminds her, “You have a duty of care to every child,
"Section 5.1.6" |
“as it says in section 5.1.6 of your policy – ‘’the school is committed to guaranteeing access to education for every child with special educational needs’.”
Ffion closes the door |
Ffion gets up and closes the office door;
"I've just got this job, Kelly" |
“I’ve just got this job, Kelly – there’s nothing I can do – it’s out of my control!”
"You get the massive pay cheque" |
She is reminded that she is the head; “You get the massive pay cheque – you welcome the children.” Ffion insists that every child is welcome at the school. Kelly reiterates, “Ifan is used to getting taxis to and from the school, OK – any change would really disturb him.”
"I can discuss it with with the parent or guardian" |
Ffion now points out that she can only discuss specific cases with the pupil’s parent or guardian; “Every child deserves privacy.”
"You know very well, I'm raising Ifan!" |
Kelly growls that she is raising Ifan, something of which Ffion is well aware.
"I've got another meeting now" |
Ffion adds, “As I said, I’ve got another meeting now, so . . .”
"Have you any comment for my article?" |
“Right, before I go, have you got any comment to make for the article I’m going to write about this?” Kelly enquires, and Ffion doubts that she I would dare to do that.
"Watch me!" |
“Watch me!” Kelly snarls, ominously
Kelly leaves the office |
and walks out.
"Aren't you going to get changed" |
Tyler urges Iolo, “He’ll be here any minute – aren’t you going to get changed?” Iolo replies that he is only coming for dinner,
"I've got work tomorrow, mind" |
and does not want Tyler to stretch things out tonight, as he has work tomorrow morning; “I’m serious,” he goes on, “I don’t know why we’re doing this.”
"Eifion needs friends" |
Tyler maintains that Eifion needs friends; “I enjoy talking to him – and things are not easy for him.”
"He can look after himself!" |
Iolo grumbles that Eifion is a grown man, and can look after himself.
"What's wrong with you, Iol?" |
“What’s wrong with you? It’s not like you to be grumpy,” moans Tyler, and at that moment there is a knock at the door.
Eifion arrives |
Eifion is carrying some cans, and Iolo does his best to ignore him.
"If you can ask him to phone back" |
Kelly is on the phone; “If you can ask him to phone me back on this number, I’d be really grateful,” she says.
"I've got a lead on a similar case" |
Auntie Anita tells her that the meal is almost ready, and Kelly announces that she has a lead on a similar case in North Wales.
“A school refusing to provide transport for children –
"It went to court and the parents won" |
“it went to court and the parents won – I’m waiting for the father to call.”
"You're not taking the school to court?" |
Anita cannot believe that Kelly is taking the school to court, but she explains, “I’m just collecting information at the moment.”
"Did you know she's writing an article?" |
Jason arrives home and remarks upon the delicious smell of cooking; “Did you know she’s writing an article about the business with the school taxis?” Anita demands. Kelly insists that Jason is really supportive of what she is doing.
"She's going overboard" |
Anita is concerned that she is going overboard.
"This is Kelly, isn't it, Auntie neet?" |
“This is Kelly, isn’t it, Auntie Neet?” he replies, “You should know better than anyone –
"Once she has an idea in her head . . ." |
“once she has an idea in her head, there’s no stopping her!”
Iolo busies himself with the washing-up |
After the meal, Iolo is preparing to do the washing-up, as the others are chatting, and looks thoroughly disgusted by the whole affair. They urge him to come and join them,
"It's nice to have someone to argue with" |
and Eifion says that it is nice to have someone to argue with. “You pulled recently – aren’t you going to see them again?” wonders Tyler.
"Eifion doesn't want to talk about it" |
Iolo reprimands him for prying, but Eifion comments that it was nobody special. Tyler proposes that what they need is a night out, the three of them, in Swansea, and he will organise it.
He looks even more guilty (if such a thing is possible) |
Iolo in the kitchen, looks even more guilty.
The DI turns up again |
Up in the Deri flat, Dani is folding washing when the DI appears yet again; he hopes she does not mind him calling so late, but he saw the light on.
"I passed the doughnut shop" |
“I passed the doughnut shop on my way home, and I thought someone might like them,” he adds; Gwern likes the sound of that.
Gwern grabs a handful |
He is told to have just one, and then go to bed. “He said how much he liked them when I gave him a lift earlier.”
"Yes, I heard about the lift" |
Dani had heard about the lift, and Wilko says that he is a good lad.
"Do you want to go for lunch with me tomorrow?" |
Then he asks, “Do you want to go for lunch with me tomorrow? Nothing special – just downstairs in the Deri.”
"I've got Gabriel" |
She points out that she has Gabriel, but he tells her to bring the baby with her.
“That sounds like a date – and it might be weird,” thinks Dani, but is told that they can go for a walk to tire him out; he just wants to make things easier for her.
"Yeah, OK – thanks, Marc" |
She accepts the invitation, and looks pleased with herself.
"Thank you for tonight" |
“Thank you for tonight, boys – the food was lovely,” says Eifion, and they hear a noise upstairs from Greta, so Tyler goes up to investigate.
"I hope it wasn't too awkward for you" |
Eifion goes into the kitchen; “Look, I hope tonight wasn’t too awkward for you,” but Iolo does not want to talk about it. “There’s no reason why we cannot remain friends – Tyler isn’t going to find out,” Eifion adds.
"I don't know what your game is" |
“I don’t know what your game is, but I’ve had enough – a night out in Swansea?” rages Iolo, “That’s where you and me happened!”
"I can't cancel now" |
Eifion does not consider that it matters; “I can’t cancel now – Tyler will be suspicious – is that what you want?”
"What I want is you out of our lives!" |
Iolo emphasises that what he wants is Eifion out of their lives.
"What are you really afraid of, Iolo?" |
As he is about to go out of the door, he wonders, “What are you really afraid of, Iolo? That Tyler will find out –
"Do you have feelings for me?" |
“or that you have feelings for me?”
Iolo's 'rabbit caught in the headlights' look |
Iolo wears his usual horrified look.
