"He might know where to get one" |
Brynmor is watching from the door of Apêl Maenan for Wilko to come out of the house; when he does, Brynmor tells him, “I’ve talked to my mate about that carb for the Norton Manx. He thinks he might know where to get one – there’s an auction in Carmarthen today that often sells rare parts like that – it's worth a go.”
"I can't go there today" |
Wilko is unable to go today, but Brynmor intends to be there, as he likes bargain.
"15TT twin float, wasn't it?" |
He doublechecks that it is the 15TT twin float, and Wilko will be pleased to pay him back if he can get one.
Kelly approaches the DI |
As the DI continues along the street he encounters Kelly, who is looking worried.
“Can you help me, please?” she says,
"Hypothetical situation, like" |
“Hypothetical situation, like,” but he replies that he cannot at the moment
He walks away |
and walks away, much to Kelly’s disappointment;
"Charming!" |
“Charming!” she sighs.
Eileen needs some help outside |
At Penrhewl, Sioned is industriously cleaning the stove, and her mother comments, “Nice to see you trying to make up for things – can you come outside and help me shift a few things?”
"Hasn't DJ turned up again?" |
Sioned assumes that DJ has not turned up again; she wonders what he has been telling Eileen, and whether he wants to leave Penrhewl.
Eileen tells her not to be silly;
He has gone to Llandeilo for a new dog" |
“He’s gone to Llandeilo to buy a new dog for Penrhewl – I’ve paid more than I wanted, but we don’t have time to train a new dog.
"I'm sure he'll be a great asset" |
Sioned is sure that he will be a great asset to the farm; “As long as nobody steals this one,” her mother adds.
Kat looks at her holiday photos |
At Maes-y-Deri, Kath is looking at photos on her iPad and informs Brynmor that she has an important job for him – choosing one of their photos to be made into a canvas.
"Sorry, Kath – I'm late for the auction" |
“Not now – sorry, Kath – I’d love to, but I’m late for the auction as it is – and this is a favour for someone. You’d do exactly the same thing.”
"A present might be heading your way" |
She is not so sure about that, and he suggests that a present might might be heading in her direction,
"Well, in that case . . ." |
which rather changes her mind.
Wilko is in the Deri |
Wilko is now sitting in the Deri and Kelly discovers him there;
"Is now a better moment?" |
she hesitantly enquires whether now is a better moment,
He listens to what she has to say |
and he turns to see what she wants. “Good – some progress,” she begins, “A couple of my mates and I have been arguing about a legal situation and nobody knows who’s right.
She has a question about sex crime |
“Specifically, sex crime – what happens if the victim isn’t willing to talk to the police?”
"What do you mean by 'what happens'?" |
He wonders what she means by ‘what happens’, and she goes on, “Say there is, like, an historical case of rape, and the victim doesn’t want to talk to the police,
"Is it still possible to prosecute a rapist?" |
“is it still possible to prosecute a rapist?”
Wilko explains that he is not an expert, but she points out that he is more qualified than she is.
"It's highly unlikely" |
He says that it is highly unlikely, but she asks, “Can the police still do research into the perpetrator, even if the victim won’t make a statement, like?”
“Kelly, if you’ve got a crime to report, contact the police,” he tells her and she answers that he is the police. “Do you have a crime to report?” he demands, and when she says no, he gets up to leave the pub.
Kelly notices . . . |
Then Kelly notices
. . . that Wilko has left his wallet lying around |
that he has left his wallet on the table, beside the coffee cup.
She looks furtively around |
She looks around to check that she is not being watched.
The bank has disappointing news for Britt |
In the chip shop flat, Britt receives disappointing news and informs Colin, “The loan the bank’s willing to give us won’t cover the deposit – and our wages aren’t high enough to get a decent mortgage.”
"I wish we had tried to save more over the years" |
He wishes they had tried to save more over the years, but she reminds him they were busy living their lives, and looking after the children;
"You can't do that on fresh air" |
“You can’t do that on fresh air.”
"Well, it was fun while it lasted" |
He admits that the idea was fun while it lasted, but she is adamant that she is not giving up that easily,
"The cash is only a minor problem, Col" |
maintaining that the lack of cash is only a minor problem. “I’d say it’s a major problem,” he remarks, but she has a feeling that they will get the chip shop,
"It's just supposed to happen" |
arguing that it is supposed to happen.
"Yes, think positive!" |
He agrees that they must think positive; “What are we going to do, then?”
"I'll think of something" |
Britt does not know at the moment but is sure she will think of something.
He wonders what that will be |
Colin looks puzzled.
"What's that box of rubbish?" |
Brynmor arrives back from the auction with a box of what Kath describes as rubbish. He excitedly declares that it is not rubbish;
"The exact part – bargain!" |
“It’s treasure – look! The exact part – bargain!” Kath is more interested in how much he paid, and is outraged when he replies the box cost him £50.
"These are like gold" |
“You have no idea how much these cost – they’re like gold!”
He immediately phones Wilko,
"Yes, I've got it – £50" |
and announces, “I’ve got it! £50 – can you believe that? Shall I bring it over now?” Kath protests that she has been waiting all day for him to come back, but Brynmor agrees to see Wilko in the Deri.
"A pig is a pig!" |
Kath advises him not to trust the DI, and when Brynmor says that he is a nice guy, she points out, “A pig’s a pig! And take this rubbish to Apêl Maenan.”
"I'll have another look when I get back" |
Brynmor will have another look through it when he returns, in case there is anything else of value.
As far as Kath is concerned, it is rubbish |
She takes a cursory and critical look at the contents of the box.
"He answers to the name of 'Mot'" |
DJ returns to Penrhewl and reports that the new dog is a good listener, answering to the name of ‘Mot’.
"You got the dog, then" |
Then Sioned comes in and is told the good news. Eileen wants to go and meet the dog, as she has paid enough for him. DJ has also brought the CCTV stuff,
"It works on the laptop" |
and Eileen explains to her daughter that it works on the laptop.
“If the thieves come back, they’re not taking Mot!” she insists,
"We don't know if Fflam was stolen" |
but Sioned reminds her they do not know if Fflam was actually stolen.
"No-one will come near now" |
Eileen is confident that no-one will come near, now they have cameras.
They go out to give Mot an official welcome,
"I'm so sorry, DJ" |
but before DJ leaves, Sioned thanks him for the text and tells him that she is so sorry;
"Friends fall out sometimes" |
“Don’t worry,” he replies, “Friends fall out sometimes.”
The carburettor is unveiled |
Brynmor shows the carburettor to Wilko, who confirms that it is the right one; “You have no idea of the trouble I’ve had finding one,” he says
Brynmor also knows of a mechanic |
and Brynmor suggests that if he is looking for someone to work on the Norton Manx, he has a contact for that, too – and he is someone who knows his stuff.
Wilko searches for his wallet . . . |
Wilko reaches for his wallet to pay the £50, and realises he does not have it; after checking every pocket,
. . . and checks the table where he was sitting |
and looking at the table where he had been sitting, he asks Cassie, “You haven’t seen my wallet, have you?”
Cassie has not seen it |
but she is unable to help. He concludes that he must have left it at home,
All he can rustle up is a tenner |
and all he can find is a £10 note.
"How about £10 and a spin on the beast?" |
Brynmor suggests that he could pay £10; “And a spin on the beast! Have you got a spare helmet?”
Kelly is deep in thought |
Back home at Bryntirion, Kelly is staring out of the window, deep in thought; Anita asks if she wants to talk.
"I'm just worried that nothing will happen" |
“I’m just worried that nothing will happen unless Mam goes to the cops – and she won’t do that, will she?” Kelly groans.
Anita reminds her that what Amanda does is up to Amanda; “You just have to be happy with the fact that you’ve done the right thing – you can’t do more than that.”
"What if Mickey's innocent?" |
Kelly wonders if she has done the right thing; “What if Mickey’s innocent? Because there’s no evidence – again. It’s Mam’s word.”
Anita does not know what to suggest |
Anita does not know what else to suggest.
"It would be easier if he was innocent" |
Kelly continues, “Sometimes I think it would be a lot easier if Mickey was innocent – because without the cops doing the checks and all the things . . .” Anita knows that she does not want to hear this, but sometimes she has to accept the fact that she will not get all the answers.
"You must put this behind you, Kelly" |
It would be better if she just moved on with her life and put this behind her – leave things alone.
"That's not a realistic option" |
“That’s not a realistic option, Auntie Neet,” says Kelly and walks away.
Britt wants a word on behalf of Colin |
Eileen is walking towards APD when Britt comes running along the street, shouting her name; “I want a word on behalf of Colin – he’s still a bit vulnerable after losing Izzy.”
"Does he want more time off work?" |
Eileen assumes that he just wants some more time off work,
"No – he wants a pay rise!" |
but Britt spells it out, “No, he wants a pay rise! He’d never ask you himself – you know what he’s like”
"The timing is a bit awkward" |
Eileen explains that the timing is rather awkward, as she has just spent a fortune on a new dog, and she has big plans for the Cae Glas café, which will cost thousands.
"That's a reason to give him more responsibility" |
Britt regards that as more of a reason to give Colin more responsibility; “Come on, Eileen, you know he’s conscientious – he’d do anything for you.”
Eileen concludes that there is some reason behind Britt’s approach,
"We need the money to get a mortgage" |
and it is revealed that they need the money to get a mortgage.
"Buying your own place at last" |
Eileen is pleased to hear they are buying their own place at last. Britt pleads, “Look, I know you and I haven’t been the closest of mates – but for Colin’s sake, yeah?”
"Have you seen Brynmor?" |
Kath comes round the corner, looking for Brynmor, and hears the sound of a motorcycle engine.
"Heavens above!" |
“Heavens above!” she exclaims, and she marches resolutely along the road. Britt again reminds Eileen that she will not get anyone better for the shop,
"You don't want to risk losing Colin, do you?" |
and should not risk losing Colin.
Brynmor has just had an exhilarating ride |
Outside the Deri, Brynmor has just alighted from the motorbike after his joyride, with Cassie watching from the door of the pub.
"You went on a motorbike with a pig?" |
“What on earth you think you’re doing?” Kath demands, “You went on a motorbike with a pig?”
"Sorry about that, Marc" |
Brynmor apologises on her behalf, but the DI is used to it;
"You're putting yourself in danger!" |
Kath continues her accusations, “You’re putting yourself in danger!”
"I've been on specialist courses" |
but Wilko assures her that he has been on specialist courses. This cuts no ice with Kath, snarls, “Stuff your courses – they are deathtraps!”
Cassie, witnessing this, has to laugh, and Brynmor describes the bike as, “A beast, in the true sense of the word – no other naked bike compares to it! The ride is incredible.”
"Ooh – a naked bike!" |
Cassie thinks that she would fancy a ride on a ‘naked bike’; Kath, seeing her wearing the ‘evil eye’ necklace points out that it looks lovely on her, and to remember what she said.
Kath orders Brynmor home |
Then she turns to Brynmor and instructs him, “Home, before you get into more trouble!”
Kelly is coming along the road |
Kelly is coming along the road,
"Did you see my wallet in the Deri?" |
and Wilko asks if she saw his wallet in the Deri,
"No" |
but she replies that she did not.
"I've considered your request, Col" |
Eileen visits Colin in the chip shop flat; “Listen, I’ve considered your request,” she says,
"Request – what request?" |
and he does not know what she is talking about. “The request for a pay rise – Britt said you were too shy to ask yourself. I know you don’t like to talk about these things, but you haven’t offended me at all.”
She proposes that he does extra admin work |
She will not to give him a chance to say anything, but carries on, “I think it’s a good idea that you do the admin work when the plans for Cae Glas are set up.”
"Am I allowed to talk now?" |
“Sorry, am I allowed to talk now?” he says,
"I'm offering a 20% pay rise" |
but she continues that she is offering him the pay rise he wants – 20%.
"20%?" |
“He is quite taken aback by this, and understands that she cannot offer any more. He is very pleased with 20%,
"Good luck with the mortgage" |
and she wishes him good luck with the mortgage.
"Is there anything she hasn't told you?" |
As Eileen goes down the stairs, he mutters to himself, “Is there anything she hasn’t told you?”
Kath is still berating Brynmor |
Back at Maes-y-Deri, Kath is still going on at Brynmor; “You scared the life out of me! You shouldn’t have done that, Brynmor!”
"You're not talking to a little boy!" |
He has had enough of this; “Stop now – you’re not talking to a little boy!”
"I don't want to lose you, Brynmor" |
She protests that she does not want to lose him, as she has only just found him. He urges her to be quiet;
"I won't scare you again – all right?" |
“I promise I won’t do anything that will scare you again – all right?” She is pleased to hear it. “And I’m a man who sticks to his promises, all right?” he adds.
He tells her to close her eyes and says, “There are better ways of travelling than on a motorbike.”
She is given a model of the cruise ship . . . |
He places in her hands a present from the auction as he promised – a model of the cruise ship, which she says is beautiful
. . . which is put in pride of place |
and she knows exactly where to put it – on the sideboard.
Eileen studies the laptop . . . |
Eileen is peering at the laptop, where is displayed the security camera view of the farmyard at 21:03.
. . . then hears a car outside . . . |
She can hear the sound of a car outside,
. . . but it does not appear on the screen |
but can see no sign of movement;
She looks very concerned |
she looks very worried.
"You went behind my back – again!" |
As they come into the Deri, Colin insists that he does not want to celebrate; “The 20% is great, but I’m not happy you went behind my back – again.”
"The situation has changed now" |
She reminds him of the change in the situation now,
"And all the extra work I have to do" |
but he complains about the amount all extra work he will have to do.
"You didn't have to accept it" |
“You didn’t have to accept it!” snarls Britt, and he suggests that he could phone Eileen. “All I was trying to do was spare your blushes – you know that you’d never be able to praise yourself. Somebody had to –
"The point is, we can get that mortgage now" |
“the point is, we can get that mortgage now. That’s why we’re celebrating – and it’s all down to you.”
"We don't have a lot of wiggle room" |
He agrees that she is right, but the challenge now is to persuade Garry to sell for a good price; “We don’t have a lot of wiggle room.”
"That's a problem for tomorrow, Col" |
She replies that is a problem for tomorrow, but tonight they are celebrating, and she shouts for some service, but as no-one answers, she is going to get drinks herself.
Kelly looks at the purloined wallet . . . |
Kelly sits at Bryntirion, looking at the wallet,
. . . and Wilko's warrant card . . . |
and inside it, D I Wilkinson’s warrant card.
. . . as a devious plan suggests itself |
It is unclear what her intentions are (and completely out of character for Kelly).
