"She hasn't been out of her room for days"

As Anita eats her breakfast, Jason is worrying, “She hasn’t been out of her room for days – should I phone the doctor?”

'And what will you tell the doctor?"

Anita wonders what he will tell the doctor;  “That she has just found out her mother was raped by her father?

"She doesn't want anyone to know"

No, she doesn’t want everybody to know about that, does she?”

"Is it Kelly – or is it you?"

Jason asks whether it is Kelly who does not want people to find out, or Anita.

“Look, she is in shock, right – with a bit of care and rest, we can get over this,” she continues,

"Here she comes now"

and then they hear the sound of Kelly coming downstairs.   Anita urges Jason to go to work and she will look after Kelly;  he will be back at lunchtime.

Kelly looks out of the window . . .

Kelly looks out of the window,

. . . and slumps down on the sofa

then slumps down on the sofa;

Anita encourages her to have a shower

“Hiya, love – do you think it would be a good idea to have a shower and get dressed?” Anita enquires, “You might feel better then.”   Kelly simply stares at her, as she continues, “I know it’s hard, but we have to try and move past this.

Kelly remains silent

There is still no reply from Kelly.

Siôn hopes that he is 'writer mode' . . .

At Y Felin, Siôn opens the laptop and has a pot of coffee;  he takes a deep breath and prepares to embark on writing his novel.   He types, ‘Chapter 1’,

. . . but it appears not

then deletes it and replaces it with, ‘Chapter One’.

"We should go out for a picnic"

Tesni comes downstairs and suggests, “It’s such a nice day today, we should go out for a picnic.”

Siôn has set himself a target of 1,000 words

He replies that he would love to, but has to work on his novel today, and is determined to write 1,000 words before the end of the day.   “I was looking forward to doing something together,” she grumbles, “Do you think you’ll be done by lunchtime?”

"You go out for some fresh air"

He is not sure, explaining, “It depends on how it flows – but you go out for some fresh air – I shall be all right here.”

Tesni does not want to leave him . . .

Tesni is reluctant to leave him on his own and proposes staying there to help.   “It’s no problem – I’ll do some yoga while you’re being creative,” she says,

. . . which rather irks Siôn

and he supposes he will have to put up with that.   He again deletes what he has typed,

He tries another approach . . .

this time trying, “The First Chapter’, but after a few more words,

. . . but that does not work either

he appears to lose concentration.

Eileen is doing some baking

At Penrhewl, Eileen is making a cake, cracking eggs into a bowl, and remarks to Sioned, “It’s nice that DJ agreed to stay on as a farmhand.”

"It was nothing to do with me, Mam!"

Sioned is quick to point out that it is nothing to do with her;  he is staying to support Mathew,

"I'm not getting back with DJ!"

and urges her mother to stop her insinuations.   “I’m not getting back with DJ and that’s the end of it!”

"I'm just pleased he's staying on"

Eileen emphasises that she is just pleased that he is staying on.

"Taken Fflam for a walk, has he?"

Jaclyn comes in and comments, “I heard that he was staying on – he’s taken Fflam for a walk, has he?”   Eileen replies that Fflam is a working dog,

"Well, he wasn't in the yard"

and Jaclyn wonders where he is, as he was not in the yard.   Eileen is quite sure that the dog would not wander away;  both she and Sioned hurry out to look for him.

"I'm sure things feel better now"

Anita is doing the washing up when Kelly returns, dressed, but in no better humour, and is told, “I’m sure things feel better now you’ve had a shower.”

"Yeah – fabulous!"

“Yeah – fabulous!” Kelly groans, and when asked what she wants to do today,

"Kill Mickey!"

she snarls, “Kill Mickey!”

"I was thinking about going for a walk"

Anita was thinking more along the lines of going for a walk by the river, and will make something to eat while Kelly thinks about it.

"I know exactly how you feel"

She sympathises, “I know exactly how you feel – when I lost Dwayne, I was so angry.   I thought I was going to hurt somebody – but those feelings don’t stay with you for long.

"Some things you can't change"

“And then I had to – well – accept that there are some things you can’t change – and you have to move on with your life.”

"Kelly?"

Anita hears the front door slam,

But Kelly is not there

and finds that Kelly is no longer there.

Tesni is engrossed in her yoga

At Y Felin, Tesni is doing her yoga exercises, while Siôn looks as if all inspiration has forsaken him.

"How many words have you managed?"

She asks how many words he has managed, and he replies that it is about 500.

"It doesn't matter how much you write . . ."

“But it doesn’t matter how much you write, as long as it shines,” he goes on,

He has not made much progress

and now we can see that he has only added the words, ‘It was a lovely morning,” which he now proceeds to change to ‘a cold morning’.

"Am I making too much noise"

She apologises for making so much noise, but he says that he hardly notices that she is there.   She assumes that he is, “In the zone,” and then her phone rings;

"Hiya, Caz – what's the goss?"

it is her friend, Caz, and she goes upstairs to talk as Siôn is working.

He is too distracted to continue . . .

However, he finds it impossible to continue, with the sounds of her screams of laughter coming from upstairs.

. . . and then Iolo turns up

Then another interruption occurs – Iolo arrives, asking if he is busy,

"I was just about to make a cup of tea"

and Siôn lies that he was just about to make a cup of tea.

Looking at the condition of the room,

"Standards have slipped since Anita moved out"

Iolo remarks, “Standards have slipped since Anita moved out,” and his father says that Tesni is not bothered about mess, and neither is he – much.

"You make the tea – I'll get the Hoover"

“Go and make a cup of tea – I’ll get the Hoover,” says Iolo, as Tesni’s loud giggles can be heard.

"We've checked every field"

Eileen returns to the farmhouse, reporting that they have been to every field, but Fflam is not there;  “Someone has taken him – we can’t run a farm without a working dog.   He is chipped, but it’s not a lot of use until he’s found.”

"There's a lot of money in stealing dogs"

Sioned points out that there is a lot of money in stealing dogs, and Eileen will phone the police, instructing Sioned to tell DJ.

"Mam!"

When she protests, Eileen insists that she does not have time for her daughter’s nonsense, and Jaclyn agrees to phone him instead.

"My dog's missing!"

“Hello, police?   My dog’s missing – he’s a working dog so this is important!”

Mathew is lounging on the sofa

Mathew is reading a car magazine when DJ has the call from Penrhewl and will go there immediately;

"Fflam the dog is missing"

he tells Mathew that Fflam, Penrhewl’s dog, is missing.

"I thought Fflam was the name of that stupid horse!"

“I thought that Fflam was the name of that stupid horse!” is Mathew’s retort, “You’re going to drop everything because Sioned asks you to?

"Are you sure you didn't steal the dog?"

“Are you sure you didn’t steal the dog for an excuse to go up there?”

"I just hope she'll realise, in time"

DJ stresses that he is not going to push Sioned, but simply hope that she realises in time that she still has feelings for him.   He is warned not to give her too much time;

"You don't want her to meet someone better"

“You don’t want her to meet someone better in the meantime.”

"You can come and help, if you like"

DJ invites Mathew to come and help look for the dog,

"No, I'm going to phone Jason"

but he intends to phone Jason, to see how things are going at APD.

"Yes, Mathew, I sent that invoice"

Jason is just coming out of the back of APD as he assures Mathew that he sent the invoice and has to go now, as Anita has just appeared.   He asks if Kelly has eaten anything.

"I take it she hasn't been here"

“I take it she hasn't been here,” Anita says and she has no idea where Kelly might have gone,

"She said she wanted to kill Mickey!"

“Except – as a joke – she said she wanted to kill Mickey!   But I don’t think she’s done that.”

"I'll go and find him"

Jason decides to go and find Mickey, in case she has gone there;  “Phone Iolo, Tyler and anyone else you think she could have gone to see.   I hit Mickey last week –

"Kelly's got reason to do something much worse!"

“Kelly’s got more of a reason to do something much worse!”

Iolo has finished the housework

Iolo has finished cleaning up, and demands of his father, “How can you live with the place in that state?”

"Tidiness is not Tesni's biggest asset"

Siôn replies that tidiness is not Tesni’s biggest asset,

"All right – so what is her biggest . . ?"

so Iolo enquires, “All right – so what is her biggest . . ?” then thinks that he had better stop there.   “Do you fancy a pint in the Deri tonight – just you and me?”

"Hard day's writing – or failing to write"

Siôn thinks that it would do him good after a hard day’s writing;  “Or failing to write.”   He says that he has something like ‘writer’s block’,

"Everything all right between you two?"

and Iolo detects that something is wrong between the two of them, but his father insists that everything is great.

"Iolo's been tidying up"

Tesni comes downstairs after her long conversation, and it is pointed out to her that Iolo has been tidying up.

"Where's my yoga mat?"

She wonders where her yoga mat has gone, and Iolo informs her that it is in the utility room;

"Where that sort of mess should go"

“That’s the best place for exercise stuff, shoes, general mess.”

"I'll buy you a pint tonight"

His father says he will buy Iolo a pint to say thank you, and Tesni realises that they are going out;  “Would you mind if I came?   I’ve barely seen the great author today.   But don’t keep him too long, Iols – he’s got 1,000 words to write.”

Siôn is unenthusiastic

She hurries back upstairs to change, and Siôn looks rather unenthusiastic;  he shakes his head.

PC Lesley Thomas . . .

A police officer has come to Penrhewl, PC Lesley Thomas (who it appears first arrived in Cwmderi in 2013)

. . . is given a phoo of the missing dog

and she is shown a photograph of Fflam.   “He’s 11 years old – an excellent working dog – and he’s never wandered before.”

Eifion is snooping around again

Eifion comes in to notify Eileen that he has found a hole in one of the fences.

Eileen explains to the PC that he runs the farm next door, and he jokingly remarks that this is a ‘strippagram’.

PC Thomas take an instant dislike to him

PC Thomas sternly advises him, “Mrs Probert’s dog has gone missing.”   Eileen is convinced that he has been stolen as there is a lot of it going on,

"Fflam's an excellent sheepdog"

and Eifion agrees that Fflam is an excellent sheepdog.   He confirms that he did not hear anything last night,

"I was in bed by eight, like a good boy"

but was in bed by eight, like a good boy.

"Keep a watch online"

The farm does not have CCTV, and Eileen is advised that they are quite cheap these days, and that she should consider it.  “Meanwhile, I suggest you keep a watch online to see if anyone’s selling a dog similar to Fly – er, Fflam –

No, she does not like Eifion at all

“and hope for the best,” says the PC.

This does not please Eileen at all, and Eifion is amazed that, ‘Hope for the best,’ is all she could offer.

"Huwi-John could do a better job than that one!"

“Huwi-John could do a better job looking than that one!” he growls.

Eileen suspects that he simply saw the police car and came over to be nosy;

"If you want to help, go out and look for him!"

“If you want to help, go out and look for Fflam with the others, instead of wasting my time!”

"Have you phoned Amanda?"

Jason returns, having not found Mickey, and no-one else has seen Kelly either.   “Have you phoned Amanda?” Jason asks, but

"I don't want her to find out"

Anita does not want her to find out that Kelly now knows the truth, and insists that Kelly would never have gone to her mother’s.

"Cup of tea?   I'm gasping!"

At that moment the door opens and Kelly comes in;  “Cup of tea?” she says, “I’m gasping!”

"Where have you been, Kelly?"

Jason asks where she has been, bearing in mind what has happened.

"Then finding out he's scum!"

“Oh, finding my long lost Dad, thinking he’s awesome – and then finding out he’s scum – and I’m only here because he raped my mother!” she snarls.

"Are you OK?"

He asks if she is OK,

"I don't think anyone would be OK"

and she replies, “No – I don’t think anyone could be OK after finding that out.

"At least I'm doing the right thing"

“At least I’m doing the right thing –

I reported it to the cops"

“I reported it to the cops.   Yeah, DNA test, court case – whatever it takes – because men like him get away with stuff like that, and women like Mam, like me, don’t report it.

"I want justice!"

“I want justice!”

Tesni comes downstairs

Siôn’s phone sounds just as Tesni comes downstairs;

"Iolo's had an emergency callout"

“Iolo’s texted to say that he can’t come tonight – he’s had an emergency callout to repair a boiler.”   Tesni had been looking forward to a night out with ‘White and Son’.

"We might as well stay in, then"

“But never mind, we might as well stay in,” she goes on,

"Why don't you phone Aled or someone?"

but he encourages her to phone Aled or someone, to see if they are free.   “I don’t want to leave you alone,” she says,

"It would be an opportunity to finish the first chapter"

and he replies that it would be an opportunity to finish the first chapter.

She insists that he has done enough for today;  “The muse has had its fun with you –

"Now it's my turn!"

“now it’s my turn!”   He agrees, alleging he has worked so hard,

"I'll go and open a bottle"

and goes to open a bottle.   Tesni smiles, and as the camera moves,

Siôn might as well give up , by the look of things

we can see that the extent of his novel, up until now, is, ‘It was a cold morning and Tesni refused to take the hint.’

"£300 is a lot of money"

Sioned has printed some ‘missing dog’ posters, but Eileen worries that £300 is a lot of money for a reward; “You said yourself that Fflam’s worth a lot more than that,” insists Sioned, but Eileen does not want to encourage people to think that stealing dogs pays well.

DJ has done an exhaustive check

DJ comes in, reporting that he has checked every farm between there and Llanarthur;  there is no sign of him.

"Aren't you going to thank DJ?"

Eileen asks Sioned whether she is going to thank DJ for helping;

Sioned is angry with her mother

she does not take kindly to that.

"I'll put these up round the village"

DJ will go and put the posters up in the village;

"Don't put ten on one lamppost!"

“Remember to distribute them – don’t put ten on one lamppost,” Sioned growls,

He goes, with out further comment

and when he has gone, her mother tells her to be nice to him.   She argues that she was nice and gave him some good advice, adding that dogs are popular and there is a lot of money to be made.

"It doesn't make sense"

Eileen can understand that with young dogs, but not an old one like Fflam;  “It doesn’t make sense.

"Eifion was here earlier – poking his nose in"

“Eifion was here earlier, poking his nose in – Fflam would know him.”

"Even he wouldn't be that stupid!"

Sioned cannot imagine that he would be so stupid as to do this,

"He's done much worse, hasn't he?"

but Eileen points out, “He’s done much worse and more underhanded things than steal a dog before, hasn’t he?”

"The police won't be able to do much, will they?"

At Llwyncelyn, Anita can understand why Kelly went to the police;  “But in a case like this, which goes back decades, the police won’t be able to do much, will they?   I don’t want Kelly to be disappointed, you know.

"Our biggest problem won't be Kelly's disappointment"

“But our biggest problem won’t be Kelly’s disappointment – the first person the police will want to talk to will be Amanda!”

"This is not your fault, Anita!"

Jason makes it very clear that this is not Anita’s fault;  “Kelly had to learn the truth somehow,”

"That's not the way Amanda will see it!"

but Anita predicts that Amanda is certain not to see it that way.
