Jason is not much better with accounts |
At Bryntirion, Jason is trying to sort out the APD accounts, apparently with little success; the paperwork is strewn all over the kitchen table. He gathers up some pieces of scrap of paper, muttering to himself, “Come on, Jase – let’s start again, shall we?”
He makes a strange discovery in the bin . . . |
As he puts the papers in the bin, he notices something else in there –
. . . some photos of Kelly . . . |
a set of passport style photos with one missing. They are of Kelly, wearing a black wig,
. . . which he finds puzzling |
and he is perplexed.
Those legs have to be Kelly's |
Meanwhile, Kelly herself is walking towards a house and speaks to the woman outside; “Ellie Phillips?
"DI Marcia Wilkinson" |
“DI Marcia Wilkinson,” says Kelly,
She shows her home-made warrant card |
showing the home-made version of a warrant card. “You speak Welsh, don’t you?” Ellie admits that she is rather rusty but she can understand it,
"I could do with the practice" |
and could do with the practice.
"Your ex-husband, Mickey Phillips" |
“I’d like to ask you about your ex-husband, Mickey Phillips,” says Kelly, who confirms that he is OK. “I can’t say exactly why I’m here, due to the nature of the investigation,” Kelly goes on, “But I’d appreciate it if you could answer a couple of questions.”
They go through the garden gate |
They go into the garden.
"You cheeky little invoice!" |
Jason is not making much progress, and then Anita comes in, just as he finds the paper that he was looking for; he admonishes it, “That’s where you were hiding, you cheeky little invoice!”
"This place was tidy when I left" |
Anita points out that the place was tidy when she left – Kelly had cleaned;
"It's doing my head in, to be honest" |
“Sorry, Anita, but I have to do the books, and anyway, Kelly’s gone shopping.” Anita is pleased to hear that she is doing something different, but wonders why Jason cannot work at APD instead of making a mess there. He points out that it is quieter at the house;
“Actually, it’s doing my head in, to be honest! I haven’t even had breakfast or a shower yet this morning.”
Anita issues him with instructions . . . |
Anita takes charge, as she so often does, instructs him to go upstairs for a wash and have something to eat. He does as he is told, commenting, “I’m sure last months outgoings will make much more sense after a shower.”
. . . then takes a look at his paperwork |
Anita takes a look at the miscellaneous papers spread over the table.
Does Eileen ever stop looking at that screen?" |
At the farmhouse, Sioned calls to her mother to help with some boxes, but Eileen is too busy looking at the camera images on the laptop.
"Drag yourself away from that screen for a second" |
“Drag yourself away from that screen for a second, will you?” but Eileen has noticed that someone is in the shed with Mot.
"No, Mam – it's only Jaclyn" |
She is about to rush outside to investigate when Sioned points out that it is Jaclyn, who is just giving Mot a little treat.
"You're going to make us all paranoid" |
“You’re going to make us all paranoid, I’m telling you,” she growls.
"Am I supposed to be psychic?" |
Jason has found that all the paperwork has gone missing, and he tracks it down to APD, where Anita shouts at him, “Wasn’t it obvious that I’d taken them?” He demands if he is supposed to be psychic, demanding why she did not tell him she had taken them.
I thought it would be a nice surprise" |
“I thought it would be a nice surprise that I’m sorting everything out and taking the reins until Mathew comes back,” she replies.
"You can't just waltz in here and 'take the reins'!" |
“You just waltz in here and ‘take the reins’!” he protests,
"I don't expect you to pay me" |
but she generously explains that she does not expect him to pay because he is family.
"They are APD's books, Anita!" |
He angrily emphasises that they are APD’s books, but she maintains that she can do them in her sleep – unlike him.
"Not having problems with the accounts, are you?" |
Tyler comes in and interrupts, “Good heavens, you’re not having problems with the accounts, are you, Jase?” He is told to get on with some work.
"What a lovely morning, Eileen" |
When Jaclyn comes into the farmhouse, remarking on what a lovely morning it is,
"What do you think you're doing?" |
Eileen furiously demands, “What do you think you’re doing – giving Mot treats? I saw you on CCTV – what did you give him to eat?” Jaclyn answers that it was a sausage, but is told, “Mot’s a working dog – not some fancy dog you can spoil!” Jaclyn thought it would be a nice little treat to help him settle, and is instructed not to feed him again.
"Take no notice of Mam!" |
Sioned warns not to take any notice of her mother, as she is in a bad mood today; “I’m still waiting for some help with this delivery!” she adds,
"Well, get Jaclyn to help you, then" |
and Eileen tells Jaclyn to help her.
'DI Marcia' begins her interview |
Outside the rather large, expensive house, Ellie explains that Mickey is kind and sweet;
"He can be really funny" |
“He can be really funny – his jokes are terrible.” Kelly remarks that he sounds like a nice man,
"Any times when he has not been 'nice'?" |
and enquires whether there have been any times when he has not been ‘nice’.
"Something must have happened" |
Ellie is becoming uneasy; “Look, something must have happened, or you wouldn’t be asking.
"I don't want to get him into trouble" |
“I don’t want to get him into any trouble.” Kelly assures her that there will be no trouble as long she tells the truth.
"So why the divorce?" |
“You say that Mickey was a nice man, so why the divorce?” is the next question, and the reply is that he liked the ladies – a lot.
"He couldn't keep it in his pants!" |
“Can’t keep it in his pants!” is Ellie’s description, and she is asked how many ladies there were. She is not sure, but she had enough in the end; “I found a few dodgy bar bills from the hotels he was staying at – he worked away a lot, you know – Bristol, Cardiff.
"It didn't take a genius to work out he had company" |
“It didn’t take a genius to work out he had company – he wasn’t the type to drink martinis and cosmopolitans in the Plaza and the Royal. What’s this got to do anything? I should phone him.”
"Thank you – you've been a big help" |
Kelly announces that they have finished, and thanks Ellie for her answers; “You’ve been a big help.”
She looks at a photo of the children |
She looks at a photo of three children, Lydia, Tim and Lea.
"He's a better father than a husband" |
Ellie tell her that Mickey is a better father than a husband.
“There’s nothing to worry about, but I’d appreciate it if you didn’t say anything to Mickey – it’s for the best,” Kelly says as she leaves.
Jason does not seem to understand laptops either . . . |
Back home at Bryntirion, Jason looks at the laptop; “Right, now then, how does this work?” he grunts,
. . . and then gets another shock |
and finds that Kelly rather negligently has left the mockup of her warrant card on the screen for anyone to see.
"I wasn't expecting you to be at home" |
As he stares in amazement at it, the door opens and Kelly returns; she was not expecting him to be at home.
"Do you want to explain what's going on?" |
He turns round the laptop and says, “DI Marcia Wilkinson – now then, do you want to explain what’s going on?”
“I was just messing around last night, that’s all,” she maintains,
"You were bored and decided to make a fake police ID?" |
and he is incredulous that she was bored, so she decided to make a fake police ID. He demands why she wore a suit to go shopping; Kelly replies that it was to get better service.
"And what exactly does the wig do?" |
Then he raises the matter of the wig; “What exactly does the wig do?”
"Then there are these" |
and he fetches the three photos; “Then there are these – something’s going on, Kelly – do you want to tell me what it is? No?
"I thought we agreed to be completely honest" |
“Sorry, I thought we’d agreed to be completely honest with each other from now on – but if you can’t be bothered . . .”
"I went to see Mickey's ex-wife" |
She shouts at him not to go; “OK, don’t be angry with me, right – stop! I went to see Mickey’s ex-wife and pretended to be a copper. I found Wilko’s ID in the Deri, so I made a false identity – so what?”
"Do you have any idea of how long you could get in jail?" |
Jason asks, “Do you have any idea how long you’d get in jail for impersonating a copper?”
"I just want the truth!" |
“Don’t look at me like that – I just want the truth about what happened!” she snarls.
"And what did you think his ex could tell you?" |
Jason demands what she thought his ex could tell her about what happened that night.
"If he's capable of rape" |
“I don’t know – perhaps I thought she could give me an insight into what kind of man he is, and whether he is capable of rape,” she answers.
"She said he was 'nice'" |
Jason wants to know what she did tell Kelly, and she says, “That he was nice.”
"You risked years in jail to find out he's 'nice'?" |
He points out that she has risked years in jail, posing as a police officer, just so that Mickey’s ex could tell her that he is ‘nice’.
"I deserve the truth, OK, Jason?" |
“I’m not going to apologise because I deserve the truth, OK, Jason?” she snaps, but he points out that she is not going to get the truth, and has to let this go.
"You're obsessed!" |
“You’re obsessed – and what is the point of trying to find out the truth when you know it’s completely impossible?” he demands.
"Because it happened to me" |
“Because it’s happened to me!” Kelly screams, and Jason is stopped in his tracks. “Because it’s happened to me!” she repeats,
"I was raped, years ago, by a bloke called Rhodri!" |
“I was raped! Years ago, a bloke called Rhodri – he drugged me and raped me –
"You can see why I can't let this go!" |
“and it was my word against his, back then as well. So you can see why I can’t let this go.”
This has quite an effect on Jason |
Jason is deeply affected by this disclosure.
"We've got the contract!" |
At Penrhewl, Sioned rushes in with the news, “We’ve had a e-mail from Gomer holiday park – we’ve got the contract 80 meals on the first Saturday of every month, starting this weekend!”
Eileen is still transfixed by the CCTV images and merely describes the news as good,
"It's fantastic, Mam!" |
whereas Sioned prefers to call it, “Fantastic, great!”
Eileen then asks whether Jaclyn used to give Fflam sausages as well,
"Yes, I did sometimes" |
which she did sometimes; “No wonder he didn’t bark when the thieves came –
"He probably left with them like a little lamb" |
“he probably left with them like a little lamb!” Jaclyn hopes that she is not suggesting that it is her fault the dog has gone, and is told, “It was stupid to feed him!”
"I don't like being spoken to like that!" |
Jaclyn objects to being spoken to like that, but is told, in no uncertain terms, that Eileen is her boss and it is about time she learned some respect.
"Perhaps you're in the wrong job!" |
“If you don’t respect the person who pays you, perhaps you’re in the wrong job!” growls Eileen,
This is not looking good |
and Sioned is afraid of what is going to happen next.
"If that's what you want – fine!" |
“If that’s what you want, fine!” Jaclyn tells her, taking off her apron and walking out of the farmhouse.
"Why couldn't you have told me, Kelly?" |
“I just can’t understand why you couldn’t have told me about this, Kelly,” saya Jason, “We’ve talked and talked about what happened to Amanda, so . . .”
"I didn't want to hurt you" |
Kelly replies that she did not want to hurt him.
"After everything you've been through" |
“Hurt me? After everything you’ve been through?” he says, “And Rhodri – he got away with it, didn’t he? No evidence – you still should have told me.”
"It's not easy to tell the person you love" |
“Jason,” she continues tearfully, “It’s not easy to tell the person you love something like that.”
"Did you tell Ed or Dafydd?" |
He wonders if she told Ed or Dafydd, but she shakes her head.
"I told Jinx, as I was with him at the time" |
She did tell Jinx, as she was with him a time, and Anita knows; “Is it important who knows? That’s not the point, Jase – I didn’t tell you because –
"I was scared you weren't going to love me!" |
“I was scared that you weren’t going to love me.”
He assures her that he could never do that;
"What happened wasn't your fault" |
“What happened to you wasn’t your fault,” but she sobs that it felt like it.
"I felt so ashamed" |
“I felt so ashamed – I knew what had happened, but I didn’t know who it was – I went crazy – everything turned upside down. That’s why I want to believe Mam, because what happened to her has happened to me. But when I talk to Mickey, he’s so sincere – and I’ve always wanted a father!”
Jason wishes he could help |
Jason is very upset by this, as she continues, “I don’t know who to trust – and I’ve never been the best judge of character, especially when it comes to men – Ed, Moc –
"Yes, I am obsessed with finding out the truth" |
“so yes, I am obsessed with finding out the truth – and I’m not going to apologise for that.”
"I can't believe how strong you've been" |
Jason is in tears as he tells her, “There’s no need for you to be sorry – I’m sorry. I can’t believe how strong you’ve been!”
Kelly has needed a good cwtch for ages |
and he hugs her tightly (for the first time in ages).
It appears Rhys has won again |
In the shop flat, Mathew and Rhys are playing a computer football game; “Yeah, back of the net!” shouts Rhys,
"Why don't we listen to a few tunes?" |
and Mathew has had enough of this, proposing that they listen to a few tunes. Rhys is convinced that he is scared of being thrashed again, and does not like the sort of tunes Mathew fancies.
"Did you know Jinx used to write songs?" |
“Did you know that Jinx used to write songs?” asks Rhys, “He was really into it – released a couple online, I think.
"Let's have a look on YouTube" |
“Let’s have a look on YouTube.”
Jason weeps silently on the stairs |
Jason is sitting on the stairs, crying, while Kelly is upstairs in the shower.
They have found a video of Jinx . . . |
They have found a recording of Jinx with his guitar; he sings the rather uninspiring words, “I heard the rumour from all the owls about all the tears. Do you love me?”
. . . and find it hilarious |
Rhys and Mathew are very amused by this; “What a thing to tell someone – that they are like an owl. He’s looking at the lens, trying to be moody – or sexy!”
There are no comments – yet |
Strangely enough there are no comments under the video, and they decide to add one for a laugh.
Kelly leaves a message for Mickey |
Kelly is back from her shower and leaving a message for Mickey on the phone; “I was just wondering if you wanted to meet for a drink when it’s convenient. Just let me know.”
"Is it a good idea to contact him again?" |
Jason wonders what is going on, stressing that it is not a good idea to contact Mickey.
"I must get him to say something incriminating" |
She informs him, “I have to, if I’m going to get him to say something incriminating.”
Jason asks what happens if she cannot get anything and whether she will tell Anita that she is going to meet him.
Jason is ordered not to tell Anita |
“No!” she replies, “And you’re not going to tell her, either, OK! Because I don’t want her to get upset again.”
He can understand that, but insists that she is not going to see Mickey on her own;
"I shall be hiding out of the way" |
he is coming with her. “He won’t talk to me if you’re there,” she responds, but Jason intends to be hiding out of the way, and urges her to let him do this.
"I don't know what I'm going to say – and I'm terrified!" |
“I actually don’t know what he’s going to say – and I’m terrified!” she continues, as she makes another call. Jason tells her there is no point in phoning him again,
"Hello – Royal Hotel?" |
but this time she says, “Hello – Royal Hotel? Yeah, I’m just wondering if you could give me any information about my Dad, please?
"Mickey Phillips" |
“Mickey Phillips.”
