Mark studies something on his phone

Mark sits on the sofa, looking at his phone;

Gerwyn has picked up some bargains

Gerwyn comes into the house, announcing, “Bonanza – Kelly’s selling things off cheap today because she’s closing.”   Mark does not make any comment, and Gerwyn can see that he is looking at the Facebook account of what his mother and Brynmor are getting up to in London.

"They're having a lot of fun on their dirty weekend!"

“It sounds as if they are having a lot of fun on their dirty weekend” he comments, and Mark protests that it is not a dirty weekend.

"It's nice she's found someone who can treat her"

“It’s nice she’s found someone who can treat her – he’s taken her to a lot of places,” Gerwyn continues and Mark wonders how he knows.   “She texted me last night, he replies.

"Text her back and tell her to delete those flipping photos!"

“Well, text her back and tell her to delete those flipping photos off the Internet – she’s making a fool of herself!” Mark growls.   Gerwyn finds it really sad to see him like this – so bitter because his mother has found happiness – that is why he is sitting there in his pyjamas, looking at their photos.

"I just don't like the man"

Mark points out that he just does not like the man.

"Do you think you would be less angry if you weren't single?"|

“Do you think you would be less angry if you weren’t single?” Gerwyn enquires,

"With friends like you, who needs enemies?"

and Mark says that with friends like him, who needs enemies?   “It’s true, isn’t it?   If you’d make more of an effort to find someone, perhaps you wouldn’t care so much about your mother’s love life.”

"I'm going to look for some better company"

Gerwyn picks up his box of cheap cakes, saying that he is going to look for some better company.

"It should be with you in half an hour"

In the café, Kelly appears to be overwhelmed with orders when Anita arrives;

"Thanks for not selling to Garry"

“Thanks for not selling to Garry,” she says.

"I think it was the right thing to do"

Kelly knew in her heart that selling to Siôn was the right thing to do.   “I don’t think Siôn would talk to you again if you’d accepted Garry’s offer,” Anita tells her, and Kelly hopes she is not going to regret it.

She would welcome the help of another pair of hands today;  “I couldn’t have coped if Jason hadn’t taken the day off to do the deliveries.”

"Where's this one going, Kelly?"

He comes in from the kitchen with a large box, and Kelly instructs him, “8, Maes-y-Deri, and don’t dawdle, because I’ll have more when you come back!”

"At least he's offered you a job here"

Anita comments that at least Siôn has offered her job here, but Kelly is unsure whether she will take it, the way she feels at the moment.

"I should be buying you breakfast"

Predictably, Gerwyn has gone to Cysgod y Glyn with his cakes, and Ffion maintains, “I should be buying you breakfast to say thanks for selling my car – you’ll need every penny before long – divorce is an expensive business.”

"How much did your divorce cost, then?"

He wonders how much hers cost;  “You don’t want to know – Hywel took me to the cleaners,” she moans,

"I've still got thousands tied up in Rhys' gym"

“But there we go – I’ve never been good with money.   That’s why I’ve still got thousands tied up in Rhys’ gym.”   He advises that she should ask for it back,

"I haven't got ther heart to do that"

but she does not have the heart to do so, especially after he has had such a tough year.

"It could go to the wall"

“Even more reason for you to get your money back – it could go to the wall,” Gerwyn warns her.

"A bit stale, but what do you expect for 10p?"

Cassie visits number 10, bringing some scones from the café;  “They are a bit stale, but what you expect for 10p?”

Tesni is having colitis problems again

Tesni is once again suffering from a flareup of her colitis, but Cassie has something she hopes will cheer up Tesni.

"Look at your phone"

“Look at your phone – I have sent you something – look at the advert.”

"Make money selling makeup from home"

“Make money selling make-up from home,” Tesni reads, and is told that all she needs is a pretty face and to be able to deal with people.

"And it's more legit than your last job"

Cassie points out that it is more legit than her last job,

"I'll look into that"

and she agrees to look into it, while Cassie makes a cup of tea.

Gerwyn is back at Maes-y-Deri

Mark has now smartened himself up, and as Gerwyn arrives back, asks, “Is this shirt too much?”

"Not suitable for a funeral"

He has told that it is not suitable for a funeral,

"Stop taking the Mick!   Is it all right?"

but Mark groans, “Stop taking the Mick!   Is it all right?”   Then Gerwyn notices the bottle nearby, and comes to the conclusion that he has a date, demanding who is the lucky woman.

"Just going to see a friend"

Mark answers that he is just going to see a friend,

"Old flame, is it?"

which Gerwyn takes to mean an old flame;

"Her circumstances have changed"

“Her circumstances have changed, so I hoped we could,  you know . . .”

"Good luck, then, Mark!"

Gerwyn wishes him good luck, and he hesitantly sets off.

The orders are still coming in

Behind the counter at the café, Anita has taken another order, and Kelly reports that the last of the bacon has gone;

"If I was this busy every day . . ."

“If it was this busy every day, I wouldn’t be selling – I’d be retiring!”   Anita wonders if she is going to keep anything as a memento,

"I'm sure Siôn will want to put his own stamo on it"

and Kelly is sure that Siôn will want to put his own stamp on it.

An historic picture of Cwmderi residents

“Look at Meic in that picture,” says Anita, “He’s so young.”

"I feel that I'm letting him down"

Kelly feels that she is letting him down, but is assured that she has done her best;

"It's difficult to succeed in business"

“It is difficult to succeed in business, this year of all years.”

"Do you think Siôn will do a better job?"

“Do you think Siôn will do a better job?” Kelly asks, and Anita does not know, although he is very determined once he gets an idea into his head – in that respect he is like Meic.

"There was only one Meic!"

Kelly is quite clear that there was only one Meic, and Anita encourages her that she will be all right,

Anita takes down the picture

as she is a good person.   “Good and skint!” says Kelly, and decides to take that picture.

"Sorry, we're out of bacon"

The phone rings, and Kelly answers it, “Caffi Meic – sorry, we’re out of bacon,

Anita recalls old times

as Anita takes down the picture, I don’t care if you leave a bad review, because today’s my last day – so there!   Oh, charming – well, you too!” and she slams down the phone.

"Look at the state of this place!"

Ffion goes to Hywel’s house, where is the place is in a mess;  she suspects that Rhys had a party last night,

"What's the time, then?"

and he wonders what time it is.   “Aren’t you working today?” she demands, and he says he has no clients until the afternoon.

“Look, about that,” she begins, and he suspects that she has reconsidered their arrangement,

He must have a cup of tea before their next little 'romp'

but he needs a cup of tea first, after last night.

"No – that money – I want it back!"

“No,” Ffion continues, “You know the money I gave you to the gym – I want it back!   You’ll have to find a new investor.”

"No-one is investing in gyms these days"

He cannot believe that she is serious, explaining that no-one is investing in gyms these days, but she is quite adamant,

"You can't have my money when we're not together"

“You’ll have to do something, Rhys – you can’t expect to have my money when we’re not together any more.”

"You just want to kick me when I'm down!"

He accuses her of being cruel;  “You don’t need the money – you just want to kick me when I’m down!”   She agrees that she does not need the money,

"I want it back by the end of the month!"

but emphasises she wants it back – within the month.

Now Rhys feels even worse

She turns and leaves the house.

"They're asking for cash upfront"

Tesni has found one snag with the makeup business;  “They are asking for cash upfront,”

"You can't expect them to give it away for free"

and Cassie did not expect them to give it away for free, but stresses that Tesni can keep all the profit.   “But where do I get the money?”   As her mother has just come in through the back door,

"How about asking your Mam?"

it is suggested that she could be asked.

"I'm thinking of starting up a business . . ."

“Mam,” Tesni wheedles, “I’m thinking of starting up a business – Cassie’s found this great makeup company –

". . . but I need a bit of help with the startup"

“the thing is, I need a bit of help with the start up.”

Jaclyn's answer is immediate

Jaclyn’s response is not encouraging;  “No – until I know how much the divorce is going to cost, the Bank of Mam is closed!”

Mark arrives at Penrhewl

At Penrhewl, Eileen is surprised to see Mark;

"I just called over to say hello|

“I just called over to say hello,” he tells her, and she is pleased to see him, having not seen anyone but Huwi all morning.

"How about some tea and Bara Brith?"

She invites him to sit down for a cup of tea and some Bara Brith.

Then he produces the bottle

He produces the bottle, but it is rather early in the day for Eileen;

"I'm sure Sioned will be only too happy to drink it"

“I’m sure Sioned will be more than happy to drink it,” she says, and remarks on his smart appearance, assuming that he is on his way somewhere.

"I found it in the wardrobe and thought, 'Why not?'"

He alleges that he found it in the wardrobe and thought he would give it a try;

"I haven't had the chance for ages"

Eileen says that it is nice to get dressed up sometimes – she has not had the chance for ages.

The moment of truth has come at the café;

For the last time Kelly turns round the sign . . .

Kelly ceremonially turns the notice on the door from ‘open’

. . . as she closes the cf

to ‘closed’ for the last time.

"That wasn't as momentous as I thought it would be"

“That wasn’t as momentous as I thought it would be,” she comments to Jason,

"You'll be back behind the counter in a few weeks"

but he points out that she is not going anywhere – she will be back behind the counter in a few weeks.

"As  a waitress though, not as an owner'

“As a waitress, though, Jase, not as an owner,” she groans, “I don’t know – I feel like I want to thank people and say goodbye.”   He takes out his phone and explains that she can do that, no problem at all.

Jason gets out his phone

“We’ll record a video and put it on the café’s Facebook page – that’s the right thing to do – you’ve slaved your guts out here – you’ve got every right to say goodbye.”

"Whoa, Jase – I have to get changed!"

She shouts at him to stop, insisting that she needs to go and get changed, and put on some lippy.

"Why don't you help Guto with his Spanish?"

Gerwyn comes into number 10, where Tesni is feeling slightly better, but is just bored;  he suggests that she should help her brother with his Spanish, but she wants to get a job.   He is sure that she will find something,

"I need some help with the startup cash"

and she advises that she has;  “Selling makeup online – but I’d need some help with the startup cash.

"Mam says she can't afford it"

“Mam says she can’t afford it, because of the divorce.”

“It’s not right you two are missing out because of your parents’ problem,” Gerwyn sighs,

"How much do you need?"

“How much do you need?”   She replies that it is £400, but promises to pay him back out of her profits.

"I did pay for your brother's Spanish lessons"

He acknowledges that he has paid for her brother’s Spanish lessons, so it is only right that she gets something;

"You won't regret it, Dad"

Tesni assures him that he will not regret it, but is warned not tell her mother.

Rhys looks as if he is tidying up . . ."

Rhys makes an token effort to tidy the house while speaking to his father on the phone;  “Do you fancy meeting for a drink?   Oh, Esther has swimming lessons – how about after the lesson?   Yeah, all right – nothing important.”

. . . but soon gives up

He throws down the items he was clearing up.

Ffion and Gerwyn are having another argument

Once again at Cysgod y Glyn, Gerwyn and Ffion are arguing over the answer to a quiz question and he accuses her of being pedantic.

"I shall take the game with me!"

He is so wound up about this that he says he is going home and taking the game with him.   She accuses him of being, “A big baby!”

He discovers something down the sofa . . .

and as he searches for one of the cards down the side of the sofa, he finds something else – what appears to be one of Guto’s small packets of herbal smoking material.

. . . and Ffion initially denies all knowledge of it

He realises what it is, and does not believe Ffion when she says she has never seen it before.   “Well, it was in your sofa,” he emphasises,

"It's Guto – I'll kill him!"

and comes to the conclusion, “Guto – I’ll kill him!”

"It's not Guto's – it's mine!"

She pleads with him not to lose his temper, alleging, “It’s not Guto’s – it’s mine!”

Eileen makes small talk

At Penrhewl, Eileen is looking at Facebook on her phone;  “It says here that Kelly wants people to put their memories of the café on the page,”

"Kelly's a nice girl"

and Mark describes Kelly as a nice girl.   “I’m glad she and Jason found each other,” she adds

"Do you think one day you could find someone else?"

Mark wonders if one day she could find someone else;

"What – a sugar daddy like your mother?"

“What – a sugar daddy like your mother?” Eileen says, but he was visualising someone younger.   She recalls that is what she did with Jim – he was a bit younger than her –

"It's hard to believe he's been gone over a year"

and it is hard to believe that he has been gone over a year, but maintains that it is as if he is still there, as she sees him in Huwi every day.

“What about you?   Do you think you’ll settle down again?” she wonders,

"I'm happy enough on my own"

and he answers that he is happy enough on his own.

Ffion looks at the plastic bag

Ffion looks down at the small plastic bag

"How long have you been smoking this stuff?"

and Gerwyn demands, “How long have you been smoking this stuff?”

"I don't have a problem or anything"

Ffion answers that she does not have a problem or anything,

"But you're an alcoholic – how is it a good idea?"

and he gasps, “You’re an alcoholic – how is it a good idea to be smoking drugs?”

She says that it helps her to relax, but he continues, “You’re a teacher – if anybody found out, you’d lose your job!”   She assures him that she does not smoke it in public, and he demands, “And what about Arwen?   What if she found it?”

"I wouldn't let anything happen to Arwen!"

Ffion is quite definite that she would not let anything happen to her daughter.   He shouts that she is keeping drugs in the house, and she promises that it will not happen again.

"Please don't tell anyone, Gerwyn!"

However, he picks up his jacket and storms out, with Ffion pleading with him not to tell anyone.

"Sort yourself out, Ffion!"

“Sort yourself out, Ffion!” he snarls.

"Is anything wrong?"

Dylan comes back to the house, where Rhys is slumped in a very downcast state;  “Is anything wrong?” he asks,

"My life is in bits"

and Rhys complains that his life is in bits.

"The 'no strings' arrangement has ended, then?"

Dylan assumes that his ‘no strings’ arrangement has ended, but is told that it is more than that.

"Everybody hates me!"

“Everybody hates me!” he groans, and Dylan says that they all feel like that when they are hungover, and things will be better tomorrow.   “I don’t think so!   I don’t like who I am!” Rhys whines.

Dylan maintains that casual sex will cure anyhting

Dylan’s superficial answer is, “Another notch on the bedpost, and you’ll be a different man – shall I order a pizza for tonight?”

Kelly begins her Facebook video

We see the video for Facebook being recorded;  “I just want to say that I’m super, super grateful for your support over the years – I love you!”

Siôn is on his way into the café . . .

Siôn can be seen in the background, coming in through the door;  he thought he would come to collect the keys.

. . . and Jason records the occasion for posterity

Jason keeps recording as Kelly introduces the café’s new owner, Siôn White.

Kelly is glad that Siôn is taking over

“You’re on Facebook Live,” which he finds somewhat unsettling.   “I was just saying that Caffi Meic is so close to my heart – and I’m so happy that you’re going to continue with it, Kelly goes on, “Do you want to tell the fans what your plans are?   Go on!”

"The café has always been at the heart of the community"

Siôn hesitantly begins, “As Kelly said, the café has always been at the heart of the community, and that will still be true after the changes.”

"But you'll still sell coffee and bacon baps?"

Kelly hopes that they will not be too many changes, and the place will still sell coffee and bacon baps.

"Not bacon baps"

“Coffee – but not bacon baps,” he answers, “I hope to offer different kinds of refreshments when the café reopens in a few weeks’ time . . .

"South Wales' biggest Welsh bookshop!"

“as South Wales’ biggest Welsh bookshop.   It won’t be just a Welsh book shop – there will be coffee available and tables for reading groups – it will be an invaluable community hub for the whole area.”

Kelly is nauseated by this news

The look on Kelly’s face shows the utter disgust which she feels at this development;

"Excuse me!   No bacon baps?"

“Excuse me!   No bacon baps?” she demands,

"There may be some biscotti"

and he says there may be some biscotti.

"You're opening a poxy bookshop?"

“Are you telling me that I sold the cafe to you for a bargain price for you to open a poxy bookshop?” she shouts, furiously.

"I never said I'd run it as a café"

“To be fair, Kelly, I never said I’d run it as a café – imagine the potential!” Siôn enthuses.

"Garry offered me twenty grand more!"

Kelly screams, “Garry offered me twenty grand more, but I went with you because I thought you have principles!”   Once again he argues that he is doing this for the community –

"It's better than a greasy spoon caff!"

it is better that the village gets a decent bookshop, rather than a greasy spoon caff.

"Oh – I'll give you greasy spoon!"

“Oh – I’ll give you greasy spoon!” Kelly yells,

She aims the vase of water at him . . .

yanks the flowers out of a vase and throws the water over him.

. . . and the moment is captured in detail by Jason

Jason has recorded the whole of this exchange.
