Britt is all ready for her wedding

Britt is deep in thought as she looks at her image in the mirror and ignores Aaron when he talks to her.   

"Mam, are you all right?"

Suddenly she realises he is trying to attract her attention, and he believes that she has something in her mind;  

"Dad's been in the bathroom a long time"

“You look lovely,” tells her, “What’s Dad doing in the bathroom?   He’s been in there for ages.”

Britt replies that he is a middle-aged man, so is going to take ages;  “It’s nerves, probably.”   

"We're going to have fun today!"

Aaron maintains that there is nothing to be nervous about, and is confident that they are going to have fun.

"You look fantastic, Britt!"

Then Colin emerges from the bathroom and admits that he has an attack of nerves;  he takes one look at Britt and says, “Wow!   You look fantastic!”

The morning after an alcohol-fuelled night before

Rhys is asleep on the sofa at Hywel’s house, with empty cans and a pizza box strewn around;  Dylan comes downstairs and has difficulty rousing him.   

Rhys struggles to get off the sofa . . .

Rhys sits up with difficulty and asks what time it is.   “8:30 – you slept on the sofa again – go and have a shower!” Dylan instructs him, 

. . . then goes for a shower

and he does as he is told, 

Dylan contacts Hywel 

while Dylan makes a phone call to Hywel.

Aaron has been organising everything

Aaron has arranged for the Deri to be decorated for the big occasion;  “I’ve asked Jaclyn to prepare your favourite food after the ceremony – so Mam, lasagne and chips, and Dad, tuna sandwiches and plain crisps.”   

"I've got a wonderful and gorgeous son . . ."

Britt says that she has a wonderful and gorgeous son.

". . . and I'm getting married to the best husband"

Then she turns to Colin and tells him, “I’m about to officially be married to the best husband.”   He is anxious to have a word with her,  

"There's no time – we need to take photos"

but is told by Aaron that there is not time, as they need to take some photos, 

"I'm not going to look like this very often"

and Britt comments that she is not going to look like this very often.   She wants a photo from every angle.   Colin sadly walks out of the pub.

"I'd say you've had a bit of a party"

Hywel arrives at his house, remarking to Dylan, “I’d say you’ve had a bit of a party,” when he sees the state of the place, but is told that it was just Rhys.   “What – bringing people back and keeping you awake?” Hywel continues.

"Rhys sits here drinking by himself"

“No, he never goes anywhere – he sits here drinking by himself,” Dylan answers, which Hywel does not think sounds like Rhys.   “I didn’t expect to babysit your son when I signed the contract, OK?” grumbles Dylan, who says that Rhys is up in the shower at the moment.   Hywel will wait for him to come down, and thanks Dylan for informing him.

Aaron has been taking photos

Outside the Deri, Aaron looks at his phone and is pleased with the pictures he has taken, but he complains that Colin has his eyes closed in a lot of them.   Then Eileen comes walking along the road and greets them.

Eileen, the witness, arrives

Eileen admires Britt’s dress, and she responds, “I thought I’d make an effort as it’s the last time I’ll be doing this, hopefully!   

"We wouldn't want anyone else, would we, Col?"

“We wouldn’t want anyone else, would we, Col?   You’ve been a good friend.   

“I’d like a few photos with Eileen first,” she tells Aaron, and asks Colin to get some champagne from the Deri;  

Colin does not look exactly relaxed

he is looking very worried.   “Isn’t it exciting?” says Britt .

Rhys gets a shock after his shower

When Rhys comes downstairs, he is surprised to see his father waiting for him;  “I’m pretty sure landlords can’t just turn up without warning,” he says, and is told that Dylan let him in.

“I haven’t seen you for a while,” Hywel goes on, and Rhys gives the excuse that he has been busy.   

"Busy enjoying yourself, by the looks of things"

“Busy enjoying yourself by the looks of things,” says Hywel, brandishing one of the cans.   

"We had a late one last night"

Rhys points out that the house is usually tidier, but he and Dylan had a late one last night.

"Are you going to offer me a cup of something, then?"

“Aren’t you going to offer me a cup of something, then?” his father asks, but Reese says that he does not have any biscuits.   “I wouldn’t expect that, as you’re a personal trainer – are you still offering sessions?” Hywel enquires.

"You want a couple of free lessons"

“So that’s why you’re here – you want a couple of free lessons,” laughs Rhys, but his father considers himself fit enough;  

"We could go running together"

he suggests they could go running together sometime.   “Not today, with this hangover,” is the reply, but Hywel remarks that Dylan seemed all right.   

"Dylan can handle it better than me"

“He must be able to handle it better than me – do you want tea or coffee?” says Rhys.

Aaron takes more photos

After the photos of the two of them, 

"Now one of Eileen on her own"

Britt would like Aaron to take one of Eileen on her own as she looks so lovely;  “Doesn’t she, Col?”   

"Er . . . yes"

He looks very sheepish.

Britt is anxious that Eileen should remember today, 

"Congratulations!"

and then sees Siôn heading towards his bookshop and shouts to him, 

"Who would you choose?"

“Hey, Siôn – what do you think?   Who would you choose – me or Eileen?”   

Siôn wishes to remain neutral

Siôn does not want to get drawn into this, and Colin wonders what she is doing.  

"Perhaps you should answer that question, Col"

Britt adopts a confrontational tone;  “Perhaps you should answer that question, Col.   Who are you going to choose to marry today?”   

Aaron wonders what she is doing, 

"You know, don't you?"

and Colin suddenly realises, “You know!”   

"Don't you move!"

Eileen tries to slink away, but Britt orders her not to move.   

"What's going on, Dad?"

Aaron asks Colin what is going on, and he insists, “We need to talk about this properly.”

Britt shouts, “There’s nothing to talk about!   Her or me?”   

There is a stunned silence from Colin . . .

Both Colin 

. . . and Eileen wishes she were somewhere else

and Eileen look extremely troubled. 

"I choose you – if you'll have me!"

Colin insists repeatedly that it is Britt whom he chooses, “If you’ll have me!”   Aaron cannot believe that something has been going on between Colin and Eileen, 

"You weren't having an affair with her?"

demanding if they had been having an affair.   

"It was just one stupid mistake"

Eileen explains that it was just one stupid mistake.

Britt turns on her and demands, “Oh, one stupid mistake – what’s wrong with Colin, then?   

"You came here to laugh at me!"

“I think you came here today to laugh at me – watching me marrying him, knowing that you’ve slept with him.”

"No, no, no – we haven't slept together!"

Colin exclaims, “No, no, no – we haven’t slept together – it was just one kiss!”   

"It was just one drunken second"

Eileen describes it as one drunken second, and assures Britt that she is not laughing at her, but rather is happy for her.

The registrar interrupts the argument

At that moment the registrar arrives, but this does not shut Britt up, 

"See, he's chosen me – not you!"

as she snarls at Eileen, “See, he’s chosen me – not you!   

"Nobody would choose you!"

“Nobody would choose you!”   

Eileen flees in floods of tears

Eileen runs off in tears, 

"What have I got myself into here?"

and Britt decides that they need a new witness.

"You're not going to marry him, are you?"

“You’re not going to marry him, are you?” demands Aaron, 

"Garry, get here now!"

but she is on the phone to her brother, instructing him to come right away.   Colin continues to explain that they had argued.

"Dylan said you don't go out much"

“Dylan said you don’t go out much,” remarks Hywel, and Rhys replies that he is never there himself.   

"What about the drinking, Rhys?"

“What about the drinking, Rhys?   He wasn’t drinking with you last night, was he?   He said you drink on your own a lot – what’s going on, Rhys?”

"Do you think we're similar?"

“Do you think we’re similar?” Rhys asks, “I’ve always thought we are – 

"Jack the lad, bit of a player"

“Jack the lad, bit of a player – does that make you happy?”   

"This is not about me"

Hywel maintains that this is not about him, but his son insists that it is;  “I’ve had enough of pretending I’m not like you.   But I don’t know how not to be like you – 

"I hate my life, Dad  I don't want to be like this!"

“I hate my life, Dad!   I don’t want to be like this!”

Britt impatiently waits for Garry

Britt paces up and down outside the Deri, waiting for Garry to arrive, while Colin sits at the table, trying to explain to Aaron that it was only one kiss.   

"You don't have to marry him, Mam"

“You don’t have to marry him,” Aaron points out to his mother.

"Coli won't do anything so stupid again!"

She replies that she wants to;  “I’m sure Colin won’t do anything so stupid again!” 

"I don't know what came over me"

and he confesses that he does not know what came over him.   

"What's this all about, Britt?"

Garry comes round the corner in his running gear, and is informed by Aaron that Colin had an affair with Eileen.

Colin fears what is coming next

In typical Garry fashion, he is about to let his fists do the talking, 

"I know what happened, and I forgive him"

but Britt stops him;  “I know what happened, and I forgive him.”   Aaron protests that she still wants to marry him, and Garry cannot believe she is serious.   

"I don't think you're in a position to say anything"

“I don’t think you’re in a position to say anything,” she reminds him, “The amount of affairs you’ve had!”

"I haven't had an affair!"

Colin tries to get through to them that he has not had an affair;  “It was one kiss – I can understand why you don’t want to get married – perhaps we should talk about it at the flat.”

"We're getting married – now!   And you're our witness!"

Britt is quite adamant;  “No!   We’re getting married – now!   And you’re our witness, Garry!”

"What's the matter, Mam?"

Sioned finds her mother weeping at Penrhewl, and wonders what is the matter;  “Britt knew about me and Colin – she’s only just found out – why else would she want me as a witness?”   

"She may be looking for revenge"

Sioned suggests that she is looking for revenge, and her mother realises that she is right;  

"Everybody will be talking about me now"

“She wanted me to suffer – everybody will be talking about me now.”

Britt recites her vows

During the ceremony in the Deri, Britt says, “You’ve spent your entire life making other people happy.   There’s been so much more love and laughter in our home since you arrived.   So, Colin, I promise to do everything I can to make you smile every day – 

"I want to make you as happy as you've made me"

“I want to make you as happy as you’ve made me and the children these last few years.”   

"This is a joke!"

Aaron mutters that this is a joke, 

"Shut it, Aaron!"

and is told by his mother, “Shut it!”   The registrar tells Colin that it is his turn now, 

Colin begins to speak . . .

and taking some papers from his pocket, he hesitantly begins.

“I promise to look after you every day, to support you and be there for you . . .”   He sighs and puts the paper down on the bar, 

. . . and soon abandons his notes

continuing, “I’ve always been a bit of a fool – a bit of a joke.   If anyone’s going to slip on a banana skin, it’s me.   But hurting you is the worst thing I’ve ever done – 

He promises to make it up to her

“I promise to spend my entire life making it up to you.   There was a moment outside, earlier, when I felt what it would be like to be without you.   I’m going to do everything I can to make sure I’m never in that situation again, because I love you, Britt – 

"I love you so much, Britt"

“good heavens, I love you so much, 

This is what Britt wanted to hear

“and I promise to be faithful to you for as long as I live.”

"Perhaps I haven't been the best example to you"

Hywel concedes that perhaps he has not been the best example when it comes to women;  

"You talk as if you raised me"

Rhys laughs, “You sometimes talk as if you raised me,” 

"It was under difficult circumstances"

but his father maintains he tried under difficult circumstances.

“Everything is always about you,” Rhys snarls, 

"I've had to fit into your life"

“You’ve never tried to understand me – I’ve had to fit into your life.   Ffion’s the only one who understands me – since losing her, I’ve been on my own.”   

"You finished with Ffion months ago"

Hywel was under the impression they finished months ago, but is informed that is not the case;  “What – you’ve been sleeping together?” his father demands.   Fully aware of the cause of this, Hywel tells him that a breakup is always difficult, but will get better with time.  

"She doesn't want anything to do with me"

Rhys groans that for some reason she wants nothing more to do with him.

"You have no idea how to handle this, have you?"

Rhys says, “Next you’ll tell me there are plenty more fish in the sea – you’ve no idea how to handle this, have you?   Just go, Dad.”   

"I'll phone you later"

Hywel says that he will phone later.

Britt looks at her newly-acquired ring

Britt admires the ring on her finger and asks Garry, “Are you going to congratulate me or what?”   He assumes that his sister has a plan, 

"I'm going to forgive Colin and be happy for once"

and she replies that it is to forgive Colin and be happy for once.   

Colin is looking forlorn

He is sitting forlornly at a table and she joins him there.

"I'm so sorry, Britt"

“I’m so sorry, Britt,” he assures her once again, and she says she heard Eileen and Sioned talking – laughing and joking about it.   

"I'm going home – there's nothing to celebrate!"

Aaron says that he is going home, arguing that there is nothing to celebrate, but Britt reassures Colin that he will come round.   

"I hope so"

Colin hopes that is the case;  “You should have told me that you knew,” 

"I wanted to get revenge on Britt"

but Britt wanted to get her revenge on Eileen, and also to hear what Colin had to say.   “You didn’t seriously think I’d choose Eileen?” he demands.

Colin gives her all the details

She wants to know exactly what happened and he explains, “I went up there just before Christmas to help with the hampers.   We’d argued over Garry – I had a couple of glasses of bubbles and, well, we kissed.   But nothing else happened – you have to believe me – I stopped because I knew it was wrong.”

"I'm glad you were the one who stopped it"

She is pleased to hear that he was the one that stopped everything, and comments, “That says it all – I’m sorry, too – I remember us arguing that day, and I said some unforgivable things, but I didn’t mean a word of it.   

"I'm proud to be Mrs Evans!"

“Right, I want today to be a new start for us – forget about everything and move on, because I do love you, Col – and I’m proud to be Mrs Evans!”

They drink to that

They drink to that, and Garry is watching them, as he has been doing throughout the conversation.   Britt is going to look for Aaron, maintaining that he should be with them.   “You stay here, I won’t be long,” she says.

Garry moves aside the vase of flowers

Garry comes to the end of the bar and moves a vase of flowers;  

"Behave from now on!"

“Behave from now on,” he warns an apprehensive Colin, 

Colin is given a stern warning

“No more ‘helping with hampers’.   

"Welcome to the family, Col"

“Welcome to the family, Col.”   

"I'm going to stay with Garry"

Back at the chip shop flat, Britt finds Aaron packing a bag;  “I’m going to stay with Garry,” he tells her, 

"Coli has never let us down!"

“It’s Colin, Mam – he’s never let us down!”   His mother points out that no-one is perfect.   “He’s always said that we come before anybody else – so why risk losing us?”

"We were going through a difficult time"

Britt explains that they were going through a difficult time, with Garry missing, and her obsessed with finding him.   

"He should have been there for you, Mam!"

“He should have been there for you, Mam, instead of running to Eileen!” Aaron insists, “It’s not complicated.”

Colin has just arrived at the top of the stairs

Colin has just come up the stairs, as Aaron goes on, “I really thought Colin was different!   That he would stick with us for ever – 

"He's just like everybody else!"

“but he’s just like everybody else!”

"I'm not, Aaron"

Colin assures him that he is not, but Aaron says that he is worse, much worse;  

"You made me believe I had a father!"

“Because you made me believe I had a father!”   Colin wonders what he has done.

"What's so important, Hywel?"

At Cysgod y Glyn, Ffion angrily demands, “What is so important that I had to leave school?”   Hywel wants confirmation that Rhys is the baby’s father.   

"I'm not stupid, Ffion!"

She denies this, but he points out that he is not stupid.

“Look at me and tell me he’s not the father!” he rages, but she argues that it is none of his business.

"There won't be a baby"

“It doesn’t matter, because there won’t be a baby,” she answers, and he is relieved to hear that she is getting rid of it.

“And Rhys won’t be any the wiser?” he asks.   Ffion confirms that he will not hear it from her.   

Hywel gives his orders and then leaves her

Hywel instructs her to do it as soon as possible, then walks out of the flat.
